I'm not sure you understand how marketing works. They want to reach new audiences and flex their marketing muscles a bit for mainstream exposure. It's all about perception. Sure 99% of the people watching the game might not buy WoW because of the commercial but some will be aware of it... and hey, if it's cool enough to be advertised during a football game maybe it's something worth looking in to.
Blizzard would be wasting their time if they only advertised to people who were interested in WoW.
