Vlad, apparently you should just stick to putting up posts about Mario-themed jackets. God forbid there be any discussion about game mechanics and how the arcade experience of yesteryear doesn't exactly translate to the console landscape. Why bother considering the points and furthering any dialogue in a reasonable tone when it's far easier just to name-call?
Do I agree with the entirety of your idea? No, but I certainly believe that Gauntlet without any consequence is a near-pointless experience. However, I'm not sure how I would like a free download that I play with ultra-microtransactions. So, maybe this brings up a discussion of what kinds of games actually belong/work on the Live Arcade service?
The writer reveals that he hasn't played much of Zelda. Yes, in the first few fishing experiences (and battles, etc.) the game does hold your hand. This is an entirely new controller, so the game over-compensates for this by offering multiple opportunities the see exactly how to interact with the environment. I don't expect games by next holiday to have in-game tutorials like this as more people understand what the system is all about.
As for his criticism of the reomote "tossing out" all of the data it collects -- try Madden instead of Wii Sports. The non-free game is decidedly more complex and defiitely uses more of the motion control data to interpret movements into game mechanics.
He's right about the sync issues -- sometimes the machine won't acknowledge the controller, forcing me to unplug the USB cable and then plug it back in to recognize. This usually happens following Blu Ray movie playback.
The price drop sounds great to the consumer, but the long-term effects are pretty stark because Sony has invested so heavily in the PS3, BluRay, and Cell that it needs to start seeing some return. Slashing the PS3 cost does not help the bottom line at all, and not have a healthy financial situation will effect the future of the company -- and, thusly, the platform.
There are still a boatload of regular Xbox systems out in retail. If Black, Burnout, DOOM 3, and a bunch of desirable games were BC with the 360 there would be zero impetus for anybody to buy those reamining Xboxes -- at $150 a pop.
