Gha! Apologies for the double post!

WRUP: All the Reckoning

Feb 11th 2012 12:14AM (Joystiq)
Playing Amalur and LA Noire currently. I think I'll power through LA Noire over the weekend so I can cross it off my list and then do another run through DX:HR and its DLC - I wanna get all the achievements.

Dark Side 'Cause It Looks Cool: The Failings of Moral Choice in Games

Feb 11th 2012 12:04AM (Joystiq)
One of the things that bother in majority of games with moral choice in dialogue is that it doesn't seem to matter for how long you've been picking the "good" choice, or a "evil" choice, at any point you can just flip on a dime and choose something completely "out of character". Now granted, maybe some folks want to roleplay someone like that, but I think most would prefer it that if throughout the game they were choosing the "good" choices then at some point the choice to "slit his throat" for example wouldn't even appear because it's not something your character would even think of.

Double Fine breaks Kickstarter funding records

Feb 9th 2012 1:00PM (Joystiq)
At the pace it keeps going it'll hit a million bucks by the end of first day. Amazing stuff.

Maybe Tim and Notch should do a kickstarter project for Psychonauts 2 but with one of those "we'll match your contribution" promises, i.e. whatever they get from kickstarter donations they double it using their own money. Those 3-4 mil that Tim wanted for it will be cake to get that way :)

Metareview: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Feb 8th 2012 1:21PM (Joystiq)
@Copybass Ah jeez zombies Actually the review makes total sense to me. In fact, most reviews seem to mention that the story/world isn't all that great or unique, the only difference is Edge seems to give that more weight so it brings the whole score down. It's their opinion, if you don't mind the lack of narrative depth and character development then the game will be much more enjoyable. I only started it myself so can't speak about the story much but I will say this, it's quite ironic how with so much emphasis put on building a rich and deep world, the story and the characters seem lacking (again, based on reviews not personal opinion).

Hold on a second. I remember majority of folks (i.e. commenters, but also editors and contributors to some extent) on this and many other gaming sites said the OnLive sucks, that it will never work, that people will never use that. I guess maybe the problem was not with the service but with how was providing it - an unknown company. Now that the big boys are jumping on the bandwagon it's suddenly "promising".

I for one welcome the competition though I'm worried that big names will end up burying the guys who actually proved that this kinda thing can work. I hope that doesn't happen.

Incidentally, I think Gface is a bad name.

Skyrim Creation Kit out on PC this Tuesday, with a 'surprise'

Feb 3rd 2012 4:11PM (Joystiq)
You know what would be kinda awesome - if they released Oblivion and Morrowind assets with the creation kit.
We've seen that they have some "morrowind land" (or was it oblivion) kinda done, just in low detail, in Skyrim. Maybe they'll basically port all those assets into the CK, release it and essentially allow some mod team to recreate the previous games in the engine.

Part of me thinks that's way too much and no way that's gonna happen, on the other hand - they already have all those assets, they're using a very similar engine, it might not be such a hard thing to do after all.

Anyway, who knows, but I can always dream.

Let Kim Swift walk you through some Quantum Conundrum gameplay

That looks like a lot of fun, and the setup is very creative with all those dimensions. Definitely going to give it a try.
