Target will sell standalone Blu-ray player, but not HD-DVD

Jul 26th 2007 4:59PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@10, Smack. Now you are my bitch.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/01/10/blu-ray-and-xbox-360-its-possible-says-moore/

With the announcement of an external HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360, Microsoft looked to clearly choose sides in the format war. However, all is not black-and-white in the business, according to Peter Moore. In an interview with Japanese website ITmedia, Moore noted that, if the format war concluded with Blu-Ray as the clear winner, Microsoft could release an external Blu-Ray drive for its 360.

722MB version he he. Even better. And it is only for the PS3.

Check this out:

Pay special attention to the video where Tretton says there is no MGS4 development on any other platform.

Sony: Enough 60GBs for "several months" in U.S. [Update 4]

Jul 13th 2007 4:51PM (Joystiq)
If anybody is doing something wrong it is Microsoft. They invented the Two SKU Shuffle. They are still in 3rd place - They are being outsold by the Wii and the PS2. People love to forget that crap. Pounded by a last gen machine. Eat it.

Meanwhile no one knows what losses Sony was prepared to take. They themselves stated they knew it would be a tough battle early and they were aware their launch lineup needed more meat - Wait a second....same thing happened with the PS2 and look where the Dreamcast wound up.

Laugh now, cry later. MS is in trouble and everyone is too blind to see it. Rockstar is already passing warning that mere DVD capacity won't cut it anymore. By spring of next year developers will be voicing ever increasing comments about limits - no large capacity DVD and no HDD.

It is humourous people are poking Sony over a HDD when it isn't something 360 devs are even allowed to depend on. MS should wish they had this problem. Don't tell me "By the time the PS3 hits it's stride MS will have the next Xbox" either. With Blu-ray becoming the standard, MS is going to have serious egg on their face trying to license Blu-ray technology. Imagine paying Sony for every game and console they sell. And BTW Joystiq, where are all the stories about the issues MS is having. Amazing bias. Damn if I visit this site again.

Engadget & Joystiq interview: Kaz Hirai and Jack Tretton, Presidents, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc., and America

Hmmm... it probably feels the same way as sucking up to get an interview with someone you regularly stab in the back.

Making the grade: Sony's E3 presentation

Jul 13th 2007 6:16AM (Joystiq)
Sorry Chris but I have to go with Sushi on this one. Sometimes the bias is subtle and sometimes it is more pronounced...to the point I ask myself why I even bother to visit this site.

Other than a few items like the Bach story popping up, jabs at MS are very few. Considering the way they have ripped people off for god knows how much money with the RROD, disc scratching, and drive failures, treatment of them has been fairly light. It should be a sign that people are surprised when MS gets negative press here. That in and of itself is an indicator. They deserve every bit the journalistic head slapping that Sony has received over their price point. More if you consider that MS deceptively cost people money whereas Sony's crime was showing you up front the price was high.

Some figures show as many people had 360s die as people that bought PS3s in the first place. Having had first hand experience at getting shafted by MS in this regard AND paying for a PS3 I know damn well which one I remember most.

Joystiq impressions: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

Jul 13th 2007 5:51AM (Joystiq)
Bill Paxton a cold calculating killer? Chet from Weird Science? Thw chickenshit Marine Pvt Hudson in Aliens? The (also) chickenshit Simon in True Lies? Hmmm don't know about that. I am sure the guy has the range but it isn't like he has made a career out of the calculating killer role.

DiRT for the PS3 "looks fantastic compared to the 360"

Jul 12th 2007 7:39PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Codemasters aren't the only ones to take longer and get it right. Unlike Rainbow 6 Vegas, the PS3 version of GRAW 2 looks better on the PS3, has more maps, more weapons, more modes and a Sixaxis feature worth having - jerking the controller left or right makes you character dive or roll. Very intuitive.

Halo's Arms Race, or when live-action is more dead than CGI

Jul 12th 2007 2:55PM (Joystiq)
This isn't a prologue to an eventual movie or even THE eventual movie - HALO. Did no one get this? This is part of the unnamed HALO project form Peter Jackson of which Jackson siad last year "It isn't a movie and it isn't a game." I think it will be like a modern day version of Steel Sharks where player decisions adjust the course of the movie.

Bach sold millions in Microsoft stock in months before warranty announcement

Jul 12th 2007 10:30AM (Joystiq)
Guilt for insider trading is not dependent upon whether or not the sold stock lost value and money in the end. That is irrelevant. What is of interest and consequence is at what point did MS decide to issue the warranty. If he (Bach) sold stock after that decision was made then he is going to be in considerable trouble. Particularly if any inter office notes, minutes or emails indicated that MS thought their stock would take a loss. How much of a loss is immaterial. If they thought MS stock would drop a penny then he has serious questions to answer.
