Ratchet & Clank All 4 One features 3D
Mar 14th 2011 11:33AM (Joystiq)Let me try part 2 again...
This one I actually misquoted... it's by the end of 2012 not 2014 (so even SOONER).
http://www.today3d.com/2010/12/3d-sets-to-account-for-40-of-sony-lcd.html
Sony expects 3D TV shipments in fiscal 2010 (ended March 2011) to reach 10% of its total LCD TV shipments of 25 million units, and the shipment share is expected to increase to 40% in fiscal 2012, according to Kenji Sakai, chairman and managing director of Sony Taiwan.

According to market research firm DisplaySearch, a total of 3.2 million 3D TVs were shipped globally in 2010, and that number is expected to grow to as many as 91 million by the year 2014.

Mar 14th 2011 11:32AM (Joystiq)I'd say you haven't a clue, and nor do I. However, 15% of 91 million is close as sh1t is to swearing 14 million, which is actually a pretty good market to be launching a 3D capable game in don't you think?
Aside from which, Xbox 360 can do 3D (CoD BLOPS for example) so the incentive for devs to include 3D is definitely growing.
For some reason I can't post the second half of my reply, but a quick google will verify the numbers I posted.

Mar 14th 2011 2:27AM (Joystiq)Ok fine, here are the links to all my figures. I expect an apology.

Mar 13th 2011 11:31PM (Joystiq)Is this the new - PS3 has no gamez!!1!! - catch-cry of 2011?
Samsung expect to sell 10 million TVs in 2011,
LG expect to sell 5 million TVs in 2011,
Sony aim to have 40% of all TVs sold include 3D by the end of 2014,
Global sales estimated at 91 million by 2014.
3D is here, get used to it.

Mar 13th 2011 8:05PM (Joystiq)Don't forget GT5 :)
I think the big ones coming that I'm looking forward to are Uncharted 3 (as you've mentioned), Mortal Kombat, Socom 4, Top Spin 4, The ICO collection and Motorstorm Apocalypse.
I've tried the Motorstorm Apocalyse demo in 3D and it's mighty impressive - honestly feels as smooth as 2D and really adds to the game (mostly when in 3rd person view as opposed to bumper cam).
I wish Portal 2 had it... :(

Mar 13th 2011 7:42PM (Joystiq)I wouldn't worry, every 3D game I have tried has two separate modes, one for 2D and one for 3D. I'm sure the 2D mode will still run smoothly, whilst the 3D mode _may_ take a hit to resolution or framerate.

Feb 13th 2010 9:06PM (Joystiq)"Yes, some stripes or patterns in this particular example of this particular game would probably be an easy fix" ... "but that is one example of countless modifications that devs would have to make to game design to make them truly CB friendly."
You see, I'm not arguing the simplicity of changing this one example (the hacking mini-game), what I AM saying is that it represents quite a large challenge for devs if they wanted to ensure all future games are completely CB friendly. I honestly think it won't be embraced simply because of the overhead and restriction it places on certain elements of game design.
@Zach: I take your point, and I wish you all the luck with achieving that end-state. I can't see it happening personally, but stranger things have. Like they say, the squeaky wheel get's the colour change.
Now I'll post this and watch all the kids down vote it because they can't grasp the concept, and their ritalin has worn off.

Feb 12th 2010 11:59PM (Joystiq)Let me use another example. ADP or Auditory Processing Disorder is estimated to affect 10-20% of adults. Should devs modify their game design to accommodate this as well? Ok often subtitles are included for dialog, but many times it isn't. Also, ADP can extend to reading and writing, what then?
Yes, some stripes or patterns in this particular example of this particular game would probably be an easy fix, but that is one example of countless modifications that devs would have to make to game design to make them truly CB friendly. The sheer amount of red and green used in games makes the mind boggle at the enormity of the task. Then there is blue-yellow, monochromacy etc.
It is perhaps an issue that deserves more attention, but to pretend it's not an overhead to devs or might cramp design choices is simply naive.
