I think "Western style games" aren't simply games that come from the West, haha. I definitely think he is at least referring to a genre that is more realistic and intensely action packed. I think he was saying that it's not the type of game he wants to create, and I'm glad he doesn't. Frankly, I think many game creators could have come up with either Mario Bros or Halo.

And I also hope they never really considered making some side-scrolling game to mock Miyamoto. That would be childish and pathetic. Same goes for Miyamoto if he really had any kind of resentment behind his statement.
