Leisure Suit Larry HD seeks a Kickstart

Apr 4th 2012 4:08AM (Joystiq)
God, why. Why can't they do this with the Kings Quest and Quest for Glory games?!?

It pains my soul and heart and such that I can't get easy access to these.

Games today may be more complex, they may be longer, they may have more detailed graphics.... But NOTHING compares to these games.

And think whatever you want about the subject matter of this game, the fact of the matter is that there was a serious level of awesomeness and QUALITY. The puzzles were smart, naughty but smart, and the game world was incredibly expansive and fantastic.

I like reliving good things. Just like I enjoy rewatching Citizen Kane. Or Taboo II.

BioShock Infinite's sad men with giant hands, exposed!

Ugh. I know I may be in the minority, but for me (like with The Matrix) the series ended after the 1st.

Bioshock 2 was terribly disappointing and a big part of me really regrets playing it, not because the gameplay was bad, but because the story couldn't come close to matching the perfection of the first.

Would you kindly realize that there should never have been a sequel?

@Shift Breaker HOLY CRAP. A homage to Dr Strangelove for a game about time controlling animals??? I regret not getting this when it was free, but honesty now I'm glad I can give the devs money. SERIOUSLY amazing.

MyTunes for iPhone gives your music an impressive kick

Sigh. Dude, it's not that the developers were lazy, apple doesn't allow third party apps of anyone to access DRM tracks. If you want to get on anyone's case, go tell Ale, don't make this app suffer for something they had no control of.

SERIOUSLY. Has the app been updated to work with iOS 5??? You're still using an unreleased product. God I hope you aren't the kind of person who leaves a review saying it crashes... iOS 5 isn't out yet, give the debs some time. Understand that you're running beta, GM or not.

Namco Bandai Labor Day sale on Android/iOS games

Sep 5th 2011 4:47AM (Joystiq)
I get so tired of the physical controls are the only way to play argument.

That's the case for some games, but many games... MANY games work just as well, if not better, having a touch screen.

I mentioned quite a few other games, but I'll quote a few more... Plants Vs. Zombies, Tower Defense games, games like Missle Command, Physic based puzzle games, card games, endless runners... All of these things honestly work better on a touch screen. I got PvZ on Xbox when it went on sale and honestly, I missed being able to just tap where I wanted things to go. It was an arduous process to have to plod along using a directional pad. And that's just one example... there are many more.

Touch based gaming is a fantastic way to go for a lot of games, but physical controls trump others in certain types of games - That goes without saying and I think most iOS/Android/WP7 gamers would agree.

Namco Bandai Labor Day sale on Android/iOS games

Sep 5th 2011 4:43AM (Joystiq)
@Gooblechev For you, maybe, but for MILLIONS of others it works just fine, and is actually better for some games. Loads better.

Carcassonne. Any other board game. Match 3 games. Endless runners. Physics games (Angry Birds, Sieger, Coin Drop, Peggle), Racing games, Card games, Word games, Music games... All work MUCH better on a touch screen.

Games with a d-pad, well I don't like them and I generally don't buy them. Other people find they work just fine, or purchase (which I did) Fling controllers for their iPad/iPhone/whatever which in turn simulate having physical controls.

But if you're not interested in any of the games I've mentioned - then no, not having physical buttons will be far less intuitive and responsive on a touch screen.

However, think of this argument - do you remember how many people complained that using a dual analog controler (Xbox, PS2, et al) for FPS or TPS games was terrible, and that a mouse was the ONLY way to roll? How many people are playing these games on the PS3/Xbox? Millions and millions. It's completely dwarfed the mouse-based gaming. So who knows what the future brings in the coming hardware/advances in touch screen tech.

Anyway, my point, to summarize, is that touch screen gaming isn't the best for everything, but for some things it blows physical controls out of the water.
