Namco Bandai Labor Day sale on Android/iOS games
Sep 5th 2011 4:36AM (Joystiq)I don't understand mobile phone "gaming."
- A lot of people do. A LOT. I am one of them, and have virtually eliminated all other forms of gaming. And if the games are coded properly, which most of the top shelf games are, you do still get decent battery life out of them. And add-on batteries are so cheap that if you really want to commit to gaming, you will have no problem doing so while keeping your battery charged. Maybe you need to try it.
If you have a smart phone didn't you buy it for productivity and making calls? Playing any game for any length of time will rape your battery.
- See above regarding the battery. And no. If I wanted that, I'd get a basic, boring, non-iOS/Android phone. I have a phone to keep me busy while on the bus, waiting for... well, anything. Bathroom breaks. Break breaks. Music. Video. It's for everything, it works for everything and is downright fantastic. I never thought I'd game much on any sort of device like a phone/etc until I got my iPad, then an iPhone. My primary use is fun, gaming, mail, texting. I occasionally make a phone call, and when I need to it works just fine. If I need to schedule an appointment or manage my calendar, it also does that just fine. Actually far better than my old Windows Mobile phone that was about as useless for anything other than texting and making calls.
I never enjoyed a phone until I got my iPhone. It's been a dream.

Sep 3rd 2011 5:06PM (Joystiq)That said, lots of good stuff here. If you haven't played Borderlands, you owe it to yourself now, now now to pick it up. You won't be sorry.
Portabliss: Groove Coaster (iOS)
Aug 1st 2011 4:13AM (Joystiq)It is the first game that my children have excelled at, they're 6 and got through all the levels on easy. They are in love with the game and stunned by the music and interaction.
Cannot believe such an amazing quality game is available. I have played loads of music/rhythm games on almost every platform but nothing, at all, has been so easy to enjoy and just FUN.
Simple, but challenging (just try to get those S rankings!)
My only issue is the price of the iap for songs and avatar add ons. I bought the songs available, but I'd like to see song packs for better than $1 each.
Ticket To Ride iPad game is great, could be greater
May 30th 2011 3:28AM (TUAW.com)- Confirmation prior to laying your trains. Either that, or changing around the drag and drop to select and tapping on where you want them placed. It's easy to slip as you're releasing your track and put it possibly one track to the right or the left. IT sucks to lose a game from a silly mistake.
- Varying AI difficulty. I am far from "intelligent" and I hand the computer its but on a regular basis, even playing against 4 or 5 people.
Again, it may seem I'm complaining, or being an annoyance, but it's only because of how stellar this game is and how great a job has been done.

May 30th 2011 3:14AM (TUAW.com)Bluetooth/WiFi multiplayer
Asynch multiplayer.
I know your thoughts on asynch, and I know that I'm not someone who would use it much, but I do see many, many people who have asked for this, and I honestly do see its place. Personally, I can see running 10+ games on the go at any time, quickly whipping through them like speed chess.
Juicies: A colorful Kickstarter project with the Earth in mind
May 7th 2011 5:34PM (TUAW.com)That said, there are still 1500+ spots to get it for a dollar. I may be cheap, but I totally did that. Another better quality cable for cheap?
But I'm really frustrated that they think $20 is a fair price.
iPad 'If You Asked' TV ad aims for the heartstrings, fails to miss
May 4th 2011 1:51AM (TUAW.com)I like this one, but I didn't feel any zinging with this one. Effective, yes. heart wrenching, no.
And I'm a guy with 2 kids, so it doesn't take much for me ;)
Apps downloaded with a promo code can't be reviewed anymore
May 3rd 2011 2:03PM (TUAW.com)I do see the issues with devs issuing the promo codes to their dummy IDs, but I do not see that as often as developers providing the codes to people, for example ON the Toucharcade forums, to review in exchange for the codes.
It's so bloody hard to get new apps noticed, and this is a cheap, easy way to boost the visibility of the app.
And as someone who is a budding reviewer, being able to review the app on my site, which isn't hugely popular yet, as well as through iTunes - this slams a lot of doors closed for me.
What need to companies have to share their app for free? It was a great tool, and I've honestly not seen it abused as much as others, I guess. Terrible apps will still be terrible, even with a few BS reviews.
Select McGraw-Hill educational apps for iPhone and iPad free until 4/16
Apr 15th 2011 3:09PM (TUAW.com)They cover a huge range of educational levels, too.
A couple are perfect for my K-1 daughters. And many are designed for the iPad, so that was a nice bonus.
Can you imagine if we in our 30s had this when we were kids???
Dear Aunt TUAW: Is Flash video working on iPad yet?
Apr 5th 2011 4:46PM (TUAW.com)With some fancy deal, I ended up getting a year for $5.
Or if it goes on sale, buy a permanent license. I have seen it go for around 30 bucks or so.
But it does work okay. It's not perfect, but it works.
The quality through playon is SD. if you're expecting to see anything in high definition, it isn't going to happen.
