ISO images dumped from PS3 Blu-ray discs via Linux

Downloading games + large removable hard drive FTMFW!

Yeah, expect to see Microsoft sell larger hard drives and move to digital distribution toward the end of the 360's life cycle. It reduces their operational overhead (fewer warehouses, no disc publishing, etc.) and they will turn a profit on hard drives as well. The video service is nothing more than a test bed for a full-on digital distribution system that will put their media control and server systems to the test. I bet you'll see a digitally distributed game before next Christmas from Microsoft that is a full-on game (not Arcade that is). There's a reason Microsoft made the hard drive removable this time and I'm betting that drive failure wasn't the primary reason.

Sony begrudgingly promises fix for PS3 720p output issues

Nov 21st 2006 6:05PM (Engadget)
The point I'm missing every time someone comes in and says, "My TV doesn't support 720p, but it scales to 1080i..." is this. If the PS3 downscales to 480p because it can't do 720p, how exactly does it matter if your TV takes the 480p signal and upscales it to 1080i? It's that like running a computer monitor at 640x480 and displaying it on a 20" LCD that has a native display of 1600 x 1200? So your TV can basically stretch a 480p signal to a 1080i display, that still equals a native resolution of 480p going into the scaler. Last I checked, a scaler simply "stretches" the input material to fit and cleans it up a little. You're still not getting hi-def textures and the detail that a native 1080i input would display. Am I not getting something here? Because this is a common argument on this matter so far

Psychonauts will be playable on Xbox 360 [update 1]

Seriously, can someone explain to me the seemingly cult following of this game? I'm just not seeing it. Reviews for the game were alright, but it never even came close to game of the year or anything anywhere I've looked. Guess I will have to rent it when it's BC on the 360.

From steak to DVD: Kojima talks next-gen

Jun 19th 2006 2:12PM (Joystiq)
I find it funny that this guy would compare the most expensive console to one of the most expensive meats available in Japan. Beef is very highly priced over there last I checked, and that's only when they're not refusing to import it because of a mad cow scare or four each year.

To go along with him though, I like to grill my own steak, not buy some overpriced crap with a flashy label or too much of something I don't want to pay for. It will be the Wii60 for me, thank you.

Sony's PlayStation Signature line of accessories

May 29th 2006 4:55PM (Engadget)
Yeah, but the day that Microsoft released "jewell encrusted media cases" with the Microsoft emblem emblazoned all over them in hopes that someone will press forward their poor pricing and marketing, then they will fall into the same trap that Sony has put themselves in here. More proof that Sony is sorely out of touch with at least the American consumer, if not Europe as well.
