Netflix is coming to the PS3 [update]

Oct 26th 2009 3:10AM (Joystiq)
You're not looking hard enough at all if you honestly believe that there isn't anything worth watching on the Netflix Instant play list.

That, or you're solely looking for recent blockbusters or something.

I consider myself sort of a picky bastard when it comes to movie quality and I still have over 300 movies, documentaries, and TV series in my queue.

Here are a few to start you off:

The Host
Zach Galifianakis: Live
Born into Brothels
"The Human Face" series
King of Kong
Primer
Doctor Who Series
Oldboy
Visioneers
Dexter (Series)
The Orphanage

That's just the top of my list.

Not to mention all of the awesome crap I wouldn't have even discovered if I hadn't had instant play.

I'm absolutely convinced people who can't find anything good on Netflix instant play are either not looking hard enough or looked at the library once a year ago and just haven't looked back since.

Have you not looked at the library for a year or something? When I first joined the instant play library wasn't the best, but I've just recently watched a few whole seasons of 30 Rock, Jericho, the IT Crowd, and a bunch of obscure documentaries and I still have over 300 items left in my queue (many of those full seasons of shows).

The library is absolutely great considering all of the restrictions the companies probably put on them when it comes to streaming. I mean it'd be awesome if they could get their whole library up in instant play, but I think that's being unrealistic.

I'm so happy that by comparison, floating on a giant cake in a sea of ice cream would be depressing!

Ghostbusters on PS3 lags behind 360 version; developer explains

Jun 17th 2009 5:34PM (Joystiq)
Pretending that the PS3 has hit its limit due to lacking graphics in a multiplatform game is just absurd.

Some of the best stuff graphically that we've seen this generation has come out of the PS3 (think Killzone, think MGS4).

These lacking graphics aren't about the power of the system, it's the inability of the developers (or just not wanting to put the work into it) that is causing these inferior ports to come over.

GDC09: Takahashi says Noby Noby Boy was developed on 360

Hey, remember when Sony came out with an innovative and comfortable controller and everyone threw a bitchfit and made fun of it because it looked like a boomerang?

Use DualShock 3 with rumble on PC thanks to new hack

Devin, have you understood my point that it's stupid as hell to even SUGGEST installing a new OS to solve the problem of missing bluetooth, especially when there are obvious references to it in the driver software. So it seems the guy either installs with Wubi, repartitions and installs Linux, or just waits for a bit for bluetooth to be included in the Windows driver.

I'm an Ubuntu user myself, I just get pissed at how many Linux users are completely and utterly stuck on themselves. Instead of writing something helpful, all the guy gets is a sarcastic and blunt "try linux". This is why people think that we're all douchebags.

Yeah, eric E, because installing a new OS and learning it is worth having a bluetooth-connected controller even though you have no games to play on the damn thing.

Don't get me wrong, I love Linux and dual-boot with it on my main box, but that's a stupid suggestion.

Yeah, but you have to install libusb and always have it running rather than just using a driver that immediately recognizes the PS3 controller.

I wouldn't have had a problem with that extra program running to get my PS3 controller working with Vista, but it literally shut down every other USB device connected to my computer for some reason. I had to plug in an old PS2 mouse and keyboard to uninstall it and get everything working again.

This is a single all-in-one driver that you install. It's nice and simple.

Yeah, I think it's stupid to hate on a game company just because it wants to get more money, but I AM a bit nervous as to how it would or has messed with the release date and/or quality of the game. Unless they were originally planning on releasing the game with a large amount of lag time between the time they completed it and the time that it's out, then either quality or the release date will suffer from their choice to go multiplatform.

I understand that there are two separate teams working on both versions, but if you think they're going to be totally independent from each other, you're crazy. They have to consult with each other at some point, and that takes more valuable time out of the creation and polishing of the game.

If they don't start 360 development until after the PS3 version is complete (like I've heard is happening elsewhere), then why the hell aren't we getting the game earlier?

I'm definitely not upset about FF coming to the 360. As long as Sony still has the ability to keep on pumping out games on the PS3, I don't matter if it's rabidly successful or not.

What I DO care about, are the inherent problems involved with making a multiplatform game. It scares me a bit that Final Fantasy XIII won't be exactly what it was meant to be or that we're not getting it on time due to the decision to go multiplatform.

Either way, I still love the franchise. Can't wait to play it.
