Feb 27th 2006 8:33PM (Joystiq)Criterion tried too hard to make a full on action game "realistic". An example is the way the screen blurs when you reload. Sure it sounds realistic, but in the end it just frustrated me. Also, the press releases and reviews make it seem that you just rush in guns ablazing but in reality you have to plod around large maps doing mundane objectives which involve hunting around for secret documents and such.
What Black does do right is excellent presentation, the graphics are downright awesome and the sound effects are pretty good too. It's a shame gameplay was obviously not as important during development.
If I were in the business of rating games I'd give it 6/10 (yet another average FPS). It's not bad, just boring.
