3 time-saving WoW keyboard shortcuts you may not know

Jan 12th 2012 8:28AM (WoW)
@Quidamtyra, that doesn't work in the scenario they're talking about. I have this problem constantly; the first thing I tried was escaping out of the prof search box, but the same thing still happens.

MMO Family: Con your games like a pro

Oct 20th 2009 10:59AM (Massively)
While I can appreciate the way InfamousBrad was brought up, when we were kids there was no such thing as internet predators and cyber-stalking.

I let my not-yet-teen daughter buy almost anything she wants with her own money (there are a *few* things to which I say, "wait another year or two") and I let her play most non-M games, but games that allow unrestricted communication are subject to my parental supervision.

For the most part we game together - especially in the case of WoW, where she hardly ever logs in without me (by choice - she doesn't like to solo).

Claytondora, this isn't micromanagement, it's called parenting. She gets loads of privacy from me; but when it comes to rubbing virtual elbows with the unwashed masses of the internet, I'm going to be there to watch over her, just like I am in crowded public spaces in the really-real world. If you don't agree, then raise your kids different (whenever you finally get old enough to have kids).

Thanks to Massively (and Lisa Poisso) for starting this series, please continue!

The Daily Grind: How do you pick character names?

Jun 8th 2009 1:18AM (Massively)
Hey, brendon,

Thanks for pointing that out! ;)

Having only taken Spanish 101 and not being afraid of public embarrassment, I show off my complete lack of skills all the time. But in this particular case, I do know that mano is a feminine noun, and chose the o ending because it's a male character, in fact a Gnome, and I didn't want him to feel like I was challenging his -- already diminished -- manliness.

Forgive me, all Spanish-speakers, for taking liberties with your language, but I call artistic license! And like I said, it's good enough for gov't work.

Ah... well, the method use to get these names is by typing my chosen descriptive word into google translator and picking the coolest sounding translated synonym it spits out... so I'd imagine the outcome is often rough, but it's good enough for gov't work! ;)

Oh, and Justos (pronounced oos-TOSE, Spanish for "Justice")

I too like to take my names from other languages: Pallies: Gerecht (German for "Righteous") and Silencio ("Silence" in Spanish (duh)), 'Lock: Manorojo ("Red Hand" in Spanish), Dwarven Death Knight: Temorito (Spanish, roughly translates to "Tiny Terror").

Activision offers solution to World Tour drum problems

@EnrageD: ok, you caught me. i do *technically* have one windows machine in my house, but i don't own it; it's a work machine, and i treat it like the milk man's kid.

but look, i think if companies are going to make console games with special hardware that might require calibration they should make the calibration tools run *on the target console* since they know you have one!

this is almost like saying, "we're putting out some software to allow you to calibrate your ps3 drums, but you have to have an xbox360 to run it on."

Sony touts PS3 internet browser as better than Internet Explorer

Oct 27th 2008 8:02PM (Joystiq Playstation)
"it's hard for me to believe that IE7 is worse than the PS3's browser considering how many people use it and how many websites were developed specifically for it"

@devin: that's called monopolistic tie-in, buddy... people use ie7 because the computer they bought had windows on in and they don't know any better. companies develop to it for the same reason.

i'm one of the web developers that works for 100% cross-browser, cross-platform support, and let me tell you something: while i have to admit that version 7 has been the best version so far, internet explorer is the biggest pain in the tookus to work with, hands down.

@everyone: please, educate your friends and families about the alternatives to ie.
