I was going to write a letter to the editor to give him a piece of my mind, but, as it turns out, it's just a tabloid newspaper in Britain, obviously along the lines of the Inquirer here in the US, so I'd be wasting my time.
However, that said, I think it should be our responsibility as gamers to defend our right to play the games that we love, and not have every politician and news media outlet use games as an excuse for whatever, whenever the hell they feel like it. They get away with it now, because largely, it's a win-win for them. Since many gamers are not of voting age, they cannot defend the industry we love with their vote, so politicians, whether they be Republican or Democrat or whatever, can all rip into games with very little consequence.
When we see headlines like this, we should be up in arms about it, writing letters to the editor expressing our disgust (Connor, 7, Killed by ELECTRICITY, not a goddamn gameboy!!). However, I dont plan on giving a sensationalist tabloid the time of day...
I would have an enclosed cabinet, with good ventilation. As slick as the systems look these days, I would rather not have the noise their fans and disc drives (I'm talking to you 360), and super bright LED's spoiling the experience of a great immersive game.
Damnit, how many freeking times does this need to be said: 1080p upscaling DVD players are WAY overhyped!! If you have a 1080p TV, then it will upscale EVERYTHING to 1080 freekin P! Yes, a player MAY do a better job at it, but either way you dice it DVD is NOT EVER GOING TO BE HD. DVD is fixed at SD resolution!
That said, Denon players are quite good; I used to sell them. Not as good as some higher end stuff, but for the masses, they're great.
I don't think that the common "footprints in the snow/sand/whatever" effect has anything to do with the game's physics engine. I believe it's just a particle effect.
I also agree that the animation in Oblivion blows, and the same could be said for a whole bunch of highly rated games. Seems to me Bethesda is obsessed with tech, and not as much the art in their latest. It pays off where it counts though!
I got to play Cell Factor at GDC, and I really think that it's physics will really make it a hell of a lot more fun. Hopefully the additional cores in the next-gen consoles can do what the Agea card can do on the PC. Slick stuff; very next-gen.
Another technology to watch for increased realism in the future of games is NaturalMotion's animation technology. Read this article to see what I mean!
Hate to break it to you man, but I know a place that sells those, in good, working, condiition for like $1000. Ouch. Hope he at least had fun restoring it.
It AINT April 1st yet! This does not seem so far fetched at all. If they are trying to release this game when the PS3 launches (which I doubt) then the game would have to be knee deep in development at this point. We should start seeing info pretty damn soon, this looks like it could be the tip of the iceberg.
I'm not sure where that image is from, but I could imagine Halo 3 looking that good... The story, I can't vouch for, sounds cool as hell, but I've never played any of the other Halo games in single player mode.
