Hmm, I don't believe there are "new maps" in football or most any other physical sports games (exceptions: golf and to a lesser extent, tennis) . There's one map re-skinned in multiple ways. Novel, yes, but in essence a moot point. Now if you want to bring up turf vs grass and dome vs open...then yes, extremely minor differences that are still mostly cosmetic.
In fact there's another revered competitive genre that, I believe, essentially only plays out on one "map" -- fighting games. With only a couple exceptions (DoA and Smash) essentially all matches are played on the same re-skinned field. Does this make these games any less valid and exciting? No.
I think maps are necessary for some games, unnecessary for others. League of Legends is fine with just Summoner's Rift re-skinned in new, cool looking ways.

I've never heard this confirmed, only hoped. Though, since the PS3 had a hard time playing a Flash game, it seems like it may be near impossible for the Wii.
