Definitely not 8bit, but good luck to them.

League of Legends announces ranked team play, Summoner Spell changes

@AntiVillian "Multiple maps are essential to any game, whether football or starcraft. How is LoL an exception? "

..."Multiple maps are essential to any game, whether football...."
..."Multiple maps...whether football...."
..."maps...football..."

Hmm, I don't believe there are "new maps" in football or most any other physical sports games (exceptions: golf and to a lesser extent, tennis) . There's one map re-skinned in multiple ways. Novel, yes, but in essence a moot point. Now if you want to bring up turf vs grass and dome vs open...then yes, extremely minor differences that are still mostly cosmetic.

In fact there's another revered competitive genre that, I believe, essentially only plays out on one "map" -- fighting games. With only a couple exceptions (DoA and Smash) essentially all matches are played on the same re-skinned field. Does this make these games any less valid and exciting? No.

I think maps are necessary for some games, unnecessary for others. League of Legends is fine with just Summoner's Rift re-skinned in new, cool looking ways.

Today's "looks good on paper" video: Super Paper Mario commercial

If you think it's creepy with two guys from Nintendo just watching you play, just imagine how previewers feel when Nintendo makes them play first party games that are in a protected lock box the whole time they're playing.

Oh, and I really hope they have a commercial like this when the RE4 remake comes out, with a little girl and her grandma blasting off ganado heads, lol.

Nerdcore Rising throws down with trailer

MC Frontalot can rhyme, but yeah, his flow on the majority of his songs don't sit right with me. Ah well, Weird Al's got his back.

PS3 controller wins Emmy award [update 1]

Jan 8th 2007 6:12PM (Joystiq)
I'm pretty sure that the controller award was presented to Sony only because Nintendo wasn't at CES. But anyways, an Emmy? What the hell?

Joystiq on the Video Game Awards yellow carpet

Dec 13th 2006 4:04PM (Joystiq)
Why does the video game industry continue to want to be exactly like Hollywood. I would much rather it move in the opposite direction. The only reason awards shows are held any more is so that celebrities can try to outdress each other and participate in a huge circle jerk.

Halo 3 Starry Night commercial

All of you people claiming that this is different from Sony's CG marketing are just blind to what is actually happening. Sure, Bungie told people that it's all CG, but only people like us. What about Joe Schmoe that's watching Monday Night Football and just says "Wow, that's what games look like now?!" That's exactly why Microsoft bought that spot and put it there. If Bungie just wanted to service the people that read the books, it would've released the trailer online where said people would've been able to access it faster. It's all marketing and if you can't see through that, you're blind.

Wii console manual reveals its secrets

Also, could someone answer me this. If your Xbox 360 hard drive gets formatted or corrupted, what happens to the Live Arcade games you've purchased?

Wii console manual reveals its secrets

#10 - "it can still play flash games online though right?"

Holy conclusion jumping!
I've never heard this confirmed, only hoped. Though, since the PS3 had a hard time playing a Flash game, it seems like it may be near impossible for the Wii.

Do industry professionals buy new or used?

Oct 22nd 2006 2:32PM (Joystiq)
I try to buy new if it's a game that just came out or if it hasn't received good enough sales for what it deserves (Beyond Good & Evil, Eternal Darkness). However, I'll buy used if the game has been out for a while and has either 1) sold well enough or 2) is way too hard to find new at a reasonable price. I say renting is the best choice of doing things, but for some reason I'd rather own. With rising game prices and with Wii games being so experimental I might have to just get used to renting to make sure these new games are worth my money.
