Oklahoma violent game law overturned
Sep 18th 2007 12:59AM (Joystiq)The movie industry is self-regulated, and so is the gaming industry. Politicians, for some reason, fail to notice that they're harder on video games than television or movies, and for no reason than that it's a new form of media.
EA announces My Sims for US release on Wii and DS
Feb 26th 2007 9:24PM (Joystiq)Where are the Wii-chargeable battery packs?
Jan 28th 2007 12:14AM (Joystiq)I'm not trying to make excuses for Nintendo, but I know the first guy whose wiimote battery stopped holding a charge would be on his blog bashing the dock and built-in battery setup. Once the group of casuals who chuck remotes through televisions found out, it'd be the wrist strap debacle all over again, and Nintendo would probably have to mail everyone new batteries just to stop their whining.
The Wii remote is already overpriced at $40, I don't want to think about how much Nintendo would have charged for one with the charging functionality.
Any docking or other battery solution would cost more than the $20 I paid for a charger and set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries. Anyone who says it's too hard to manage a simple battery swap must also have loads of trouble tying their shoes in the morning. I'd still suggest rechargeable batteries... and velcro kicks.
Gamecube Twilight Princess sold online only in Japan
Oct 11th 2006 10:46PM (Joystiq)Just go to wherever you reserved it and ask to move the preorder to Wii Zelda, problem solved. I used to work at a Gamestop, customers are supposed to always be allowed to do that.
GameStop to be only retailer with playable Wii units at launch
Oct 2nd 2006 11:38PM (Joystiq)I doubt Nintendo turned down walmart/target for demo kiosks; rather, these stores turned down Nintendo due to the added labor cost of having someone on hand as wiimote security at all hours.

Aug 14th 2006 11:52PM (Joystiq)LucasArts: inflating budgets and delays are "inexcusable"
Jun 15th 2006 2:34PM (Joystiq)...or maybe this is what that rumor was based on.
Either way, I'm sure we'll be getting a wii-saber Star Wars title soon after launch.
Nintendo E3 keynote to be shown at Nintendo World Store
May 2nd 2006 7:38PM (Joystiq Nintendo)The e3 live feed will be shown at 12:30 first come first serve. You can definitely expect a line, I'm not sure how early it will start forming. 350 people will be allowed in, so get there soon. The live feed will also be played on several screens facing 48th street, so anyone who doesn't get in will be able to at least see it there. Audio out on the street is being considered as a possibility at this point.
After the conference, the store will be open to all, where several nintendo events will be going on throughout the day leading up to the VIP event that night from 6-8.

Apr 27th 2006 9:37PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Also, the art with multiple Links definitely points towards some four swords action, hope it's WiFi, although I'd miss screaming at my friends.
GameStop announces record earnings for 2005
Mar 22nd 2006 2:26PM (Joystiq)I worked at one for a little over a year, started as a lowly game advisor and got promoted to third keyholder, a manager position. What was my raise for that promotion? $1. Bi-yearly raises are rarely over 25 cents, which obviously isn't a great incentive to stick around. Oh and after a few months of working there they cut our employee discount in half on a whim.
And try not to take it out on the clerk when he asks you if you want a players guide/ reservation/ subscription/ used game. Managers are reviewed on those as a percentage of total sales, so of course it's in their best interest to have all their employees harass every single customer. I saw guys get written up and at least one got fired for not pulling in high sales numbers. Of course, achieving those high sales numbers doesn't result in any reward or commission at all.
