PS3 firmware update 1.51

Feb 3rd 2007 8:18PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Just played Okami after updating to 1.51...now the game no longer fills the entire screen (widescreen) as it did before the update...there are slivers of black on the right and left side of the screen, with the left sliver being a bit thicker than the right. I restarted the PS3 to see if it was just a glitch, but nope, same thing. I'm annoyed. Anyone else encounter this since updating?

PSM readers, just give in and buy GoW

Been a Playstation Fanboy since the original... Purchased my PS3 at launch and have no regrets...I thinks it's an amazing system...even if it has only one good current-gen game (RFoM), which I thoroughly enjoyed by the way. Of course, there's two generations of great games to fall back on too, so the lack of current-gen games really isn't a big deal (finished up with Bully and playing through Okami now...both great games). Having said that, when Toys R Us offered a $100 gift card with the purchase of a 360 this past December, it was a deal too good for me to resist. And much like the PS3, I do not regret my purchase in the least. I'm very impressed with all the capabilities of the 360 (the media sharing blows my mind) including the graphics. I flew through Gears and was giddy at the graphics and gameplay...one of the best games I've ever played. Now I'm messin around with Viva Pinata and having a blast. My plan is this: For all multi-platform games I'm interested in, I will wait until it's out on both systems and, based on the average of all the reviews on gamerankings.com, I will purchase it for the system with the higher marks...simple. Of course, exclusives for both systems (of which there are and will be many outstanding choices) will take the guesswork out entirely. So, I suggest to anyone, if it's within your means, to go out and purchase both systems. It's undeniably the best of both worlds, as they are both fantastic systems with different strengths and weaknesses, and great games. Oh, and for the record, God of War is an amazing game. Anyone who says otherwise clearly has either not played it, or is such a Sony-hater that they refuse to admit to themselves, and everyone else, that it's amazing. 360 and PS3 both rule! Peace!

360 is fastest selling Aussie console ever

Oct 26th 2006 12:52PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I hope Microsoft enjoys it's Aussie 360 sales now, because once the PS3 is available there (and everywhere), those 360 sales will decline (again, there and everywhere) more rapidly than they already have. The beast that is Sony cannot be tamed!

The PS3 preorder experience

Oct 10th 2006 1:41PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I normally check my email at about 8:30am, but because of an early meeting today, didn't get to check until almost 10am. When I did, saw the email from EB about the PS3 preorders. Immediately called the closest EB and asked if they had any preorder allocations left and they said yes but only a few. Tried to get them to take my preorder over the phone, or at least hold a spot for me until I got there, but they would have none of that. Well, I work in an executive park right next door to the big mall here in Burlington, MA (which is where the closest EB is located, at which I do pretty much all of my videogaming business), so I told my boss I had to leave for 15-20 minutes and walked over their as fast as I could. There was one girl in line (hmm, guess what she was preordering?) and I feared the worst...but then the phone rang and the employee says to the caller, "Yes, but we only have a couple left."...I was golden! I asked and they told me they were allocated 13 PS3's. So, got my PS3 Premium Preorder in and was back in my office 17 minutes after I left. Oh, and just a couple of minutes after I got back, a co-worker of mine called the EB I was just at, along with a second EB and a GameStop (all of which are within 1 mile of where I work) and none of them had any more preorders available. Man, am I lucky. Christmas has officially come early this year for me! Thank you Santa!
