I tanked a FL trash run for the first time yesterday. When I joined the raid, the warrior in it immediately said the Obsidium Cleaver is a DPS main spec weapon, and that tanks shoudn't roll on it. Having no links, and not knowing what he was talking about, I didn't say anyting. Good thing it didn't drop, cuz I wouldda been mad knowing i was denied rolling on this.
Just like in real life, sometimes people find loopholes in the rules to gain an advantage. They/we know the spirit of the rules was broken, if not the letter of the law.
If you feel this is an okay thing to do, I guess you think offshore tax havens are ok too.
It doesn't concern me, but if it's such a big deal for the cutting edge guilds, I like the idea that the Dungeon Journal 'unlocks' only after a realm first kill has been done. For the very first raiders that attempt a raid, they are given nothing. Once some raid group has managed to down a boss as a realm first, then the Dungeon Journal is unlocked for the rest.
I have a Naga and BlackWidow. I am still using the Naga and it's been great. The BlackWidow, however, broke down after only one month. Its space bar got wonky, registering more than 1 hit. I guess all that space bar tapping playing WoW broke it. I'm back to my 3 year old G15. Gotta be more wary of buying Razer.
Haven't trawled through all the comments, but has anyone been wondering whether the fact they're tying a subscription fee to this service has anything to do with the fact they're trying to supplement/replace the lost income from all those players who would have done a realm transfer otherwise?
Think about it. If they add this feature for free, there will be far less people who would have paid the realm transfer fees to play with their friends on some other realm. All those realm transfers must be quite a honey pot for Blizzard, and they might be doing this because they don't want to lose that source of income.
They put a lot of resources and time into redoing the classic areas, quests and dungeons. That has meant less fresh content, but i applaud them for biting the bullet and doing this. It has hurt them in the short term, but hopefully they will reap the long term rewards.
You know what I found the most absurd from the moment I first played WoW? The aggro radius. Why is it that I can clearly see the monster right in front of me, but they seem to have extreme short-sightedness, and I can nonchalantly skip past them collecting their eggs and treasure?
If we are to accept that mobs have extreme short-sightedness (the extent of which depends upon player level too, WTF?) it's plausible to explain away the CC change to say 'oh, the mobs are already blind to the players standing just over there anyway. In fact, how it was made even less sense lol'
I too believe it's the system that is broken. But I think there is quite an easy (conceptual) fix to the problem. Allow us to make 'friend' with a player from another realm.
Make it a new tab in the social window or something. Allow a generous max limit, and allow forming parties and joining the LFD queue with these cross realm friends. I believe this will eliminate nearly all the problems we're seeing with the LFD tool.
And I believe it is a critical problem for Blizzard. The LFD tool, coupled with intensifying the difficulty of heroic encounters, has meant a bunch of strangers with no rapport meeting up to do something incredibly hard, and the group devolving into chaos the moment they experience a set-back. This has contributed significantly to burn-out, and lack of social satisfaction from completing these challenges, since you're never going to see these people again anyway. What's the point of taking the effort to build a relationship?
Implementing cross-realm friend system, however, will change all this. The best tanks and best healers will befriend lots of DPS's, and there will be rewards for good behaviour and skill.
I can't think of any downsides to this, except for perhaps the technical challenge of implementing such a system. The way I see it, all the building blocks are there already, and if Blizzard had the will, I don't see why such a feature can't be introduced in 4.2.
