The case for an Apple stock split redux

Feb 27th 2011 2:31PM (TUAW.com)
The stock drops last week aren't a mystery - most of the market was on a rollercoaster ride courtesy of Libya and Egype concerns.

Microsoft pays Apple app devs to port to Windows Phone 7

iPhone apps aren't in C++. While C and C++ can be used in-line (and with low level POSIX API's), Cocoa Touch (all the API's that make the iPhone what it is) is based on Objective-C. It's highly unlikely any support for Cocoa Touch is going to be built into WP7 as it's totally proprietary to Apple.

Nexus One hits for AT&T and Rogers 3G bands

@wraith404

PDA-NET isn't free or official. It's a market add-on, and it's a paid one at that. The free version, post trial period, blocks access to HTTPS sites. $25 isn't a bad, but it's a bad when you can tether for free on iPhone (unless you're an AT&T user, at which point you have bigger problems anyways).

Fring, in my experience is nowhere near as reliable as Skype. This is a typical argument though, and sounds a little like "Why do you care about Photoshop? You could use The Gimp!".

"Non-moron". This is called irony.

It's somewhat comical looking at all of the people who are "ditching their iPhones" for this device.

It'd be a winning bet to wager that more than half of those people will return the N1 within a few weeks.

The promise of Android and the present reality of Android, sadly, are not one in the same.

Fewer, generally lower quality apps (no Skype, SlingPlayer and these days Plants vs. Zombies are especially damning for me), no official tethering support, no Audible playback (complete deal breaker) and no decent media player for music and an overall inconsistent implementation of multi-touch and design patterns are just a few issues - but they really can't be overlooked for me.

Dont' get me wrong - Android has some high points (Google Listen is fantastic) and at some point it may very well be the superior platform...

But right now, Android is true to it's lineage... it's like Linux. "Nerds" love it, despite it's massive flaws, mostly because it's not Windows (or iPhone OS, in this case).

@fgu2k8 This isn't true. You don't need to call them and give them any information. SIM is SIM - as long as the device is unlocked your service will get moved.

My carrier (Rogers Wireless) still thinks I'm using an SE T68i. That was 9 phones ago.

@sireone Not exactly. None of the RIM phones support North American 3G bands (2100mhz for world mode use only).

@Bandit390 Why not just make it free?

@whySoSerious Google is selling this phone directly. AT&T has nothing to do with it, other than the fact that it's an unlocked device that works on AT&T's frequency bands.

You can also have them ship it to Canada for use on Rogers Wireless, Bell Canada, and Telus Mobility (all of which run on 850/1900 mhz UMTS).

AT&T is only involved in the sense that they exist and have a network that is compatible with this device.

AT&T's de la Vega: HSPA+ coming 'in certain locations'

Mar 12th 2010 4:24PM (Engadget)
Just think guys - AT&T will finally catch up, in a few limited places, to where almost 100% of Canadian wireless coverage was 6 months ago.

Somewhat sad how badly the US has fallen behind pretty much the entire planet in wireless technology.

Qore Episode 7 is free

Dec 3rd 2008 2:34PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Ugh. I'm one of the (probably few) who purchased a Qore subscription thinking I'd actually get some "cool stuff" for my $20.

$20 = nothing special + ads on everything.

Sony.... are you TRYING to let Microsoft dismantle you this generation? I want to believe, but everything you do shakes my confidence a little more.

Only Killzone 2 can save you now... :)
