Miyamoto: Retro could handle a Zelda game, smartphones aren't competition
Dec 15th 2011 12:10AM (Joystiq)The motion controls were fun to me. Oddly enough, they didn't hold the game back from near-Mega-Man levels of platforming precision, which was unexpected.
I trust Retro slightly more than I trust... EAD Tokyo, which is another way of saying "a whole hell of a lot." Metroid Prime is in my top 3 of all time.
New Xbox Live terms of service prevent class action lawsuits against Microsoft [update: opting out not allowed]
Dec 14th 2011 8:03PM (Joystiq)Sarcasm, right? All three console manufacturers have been sued in a class-action lawsuit. Why do you think MS and Sony are so eager to prevent another one?

Nov 23rd 2011 5:02PM (Joystiq)If anyone remembers Contact for the DS (the game they said was like Earthbound, but kinda wasn't), I did the same thing by jamming the character into a corner and clamping down the corner of the D-Pad. It levels up his running speed, like your MGO example.
It's really the best way to go through the game because the main character starts out slow as hell.

Nov 1st 2011 10:34PM (Joystiq)"I had planned on purchasing a 3DS just for this game, but that went straight out the window with this announcement."
Oh really? You were all set to spend $210 just to play this game but you absolutely draw the line at $220? BS.
Cool righteous indignation and fake plans, bro.

Oct 25th 2011 1:13PM (Joystiq)And yet, most will still think of a $5 bill *instantly* because the image evokes it. It's called artistic license. We get the point.
You must be one of those people that complains about the GetaLife Building in GTA because - hey - that's inaccurate, and the real one is actually called the MetLife Building! Oh no!

How nostalgic JRPGs trick us into loving them
Oct 21st 2011 5:17PM (Joystiq)"Old games can take us to states of euphoria by triggering our memories of the past, Madigan said, which can convince us that they're superior experiences, even when today's games are leaps and bounds better."
This is nonsense. If nostalgia is what triggers it, how come these games were so well received at the time? If nostalgia is what triggers it, how come a gamer like myself who has never played Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid before this year (I know, I'm so ashamed) now places those two games in my top 10? If nostalgia is what triggers it, how is it possible that young gamers who weren't even alive for Final Fantasy 6 and Super Mario RPG may find them better than modern RPGs?
Apologies to the good doctor, but this whole essay is bogus.
