Anti-Spore website was, in fact, a hoax

Sep 12th 2008 1:09PM (Joystiq)
Perhaps it's a double bluff; a creationist who then claims she's not. Judging by the low-grade drivel most people have posted it's likely to discredit atheists rather than promote their (my) cause.
It's pointless debating with creationists and fundamentalists; they have nothing to add to a debate.

IGN introduces us to some Fable 2 NPCs

Jun 20th 2008 2:55PM (Joystiq)
I'm getting my comment in here before it's hijacked by the usual, predictable rants about the hype surrounding Fable 1, unkind comments about Peter Molyneux and complaints about the game looking buggy. Peter Molyneux has already stated that he wants to make up for the disappointment some gamers felt about Fable 1; I found it to be a charming and beautiful game and there's not many games you can say that about. Lionhead have already said that the game's as buggy as hell and it's their priority to ensure these bugs are disposed of. Don't start judging the graphics just yet. Gamers can be a negative bunch; let's not kill this game before it gets to the shops.

Like BioShock? Thank Ayn Rand

Ken Levine has already (and thankfully) denied this has anything to do with the promotion of objectivism (Rand's philosophy). He's said that although it uses Rand's work as an inspiration it's really more about the dangers of philosophical extremism. Something we should all welcome discussion of.

Another Spore video for another convention

A game this complicated and unique deserves a bit of patience. Would you rather not have this game at all?

Today's most message-filled video: Bibleman

Aug 18th 2007 10:01AM (Joystiq)
A)It's impossible to say that the world is better place with Christianity because, at least in the past 2000 years, we've never lived in a world without it.
B)All hospitals are secular, unless there's some branch of religious medicine I'm unfamiliar with.
C) Hitler was a Roman Catholic and made mention of god whenever it suited his aims.
D) We don't get our morals from scripture and never have. Even animals have a rudimentary set of morals as morals are evolutionarily advantageous.
E) You're right; this generally isn't the place for this kind of argument.
F)You're wrong about the one-liner but right about the sentiment.

Today's most emergent video: Ecology of Bioshock

"BUYING THE GAME" - yes, not exactly subliminal was it. I hope it worked on someone though.

Today's most emergent video: Ecology of Bioshock

I really hope gamers reward this developer's attempt to create something a bit different by BUYING THE GAME. We need developers like this to keep the industry going. I have a horrible feeling it'll be overlooked as the Halo hype goes into overdrive (I've got nothing against Halo though!).
Although I don't think it applies to readers of Joystiq, consumers generally get what consumers want and consumers generally want more of the same but with better graphics.

Governator says California game law will be back

Aug 7th 2007 12:47PM (Joystiq)
I think the only way we'll ensure the survival of mature games, and I very much hope they do survive, is by rating them and preventing underage users of a game.
There will, of course, always be parents giving in to their pushy 10 year olds and buying Manhunt for them for their birthday, but at least the responsibility would lie with the parents, rather than the games industry.

BioShock gets reviewed and it's perfect

Aug 6th 2007 3:52PM (Joystiq Xbox)
There's a level of immersion you derive from a single player game that is hard to replicate in a multiplayer environment, especially if the atmosphere you're going for isn't all-out warfare.
I'm glad there are developers around still brave enough to risk making a FPS that isn't sci-fi/ww2 inspired. Bioshock looks deeply immersive and will probably be the first game I'll play for the plot.

Joystiq reviews: Bomberman Live (XBLA)

Aug 5th 2007 1:41PM (Joystiq)
I don't consider this to be a review. It simply describes an evening spent playing the game with friends.
