Intense first Pokemon Diamond/Pearl footage: walking around

Jul 9th 2006 7:51PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
In regards to not being 3D:
You've got to also think about the work it entails. Would you rather have a shorter, sloppier 3D title or a 2D title that's longer, more balanced, and can have more features (like online play) because all the work and budget wasn't blown on bringing it to 3D? Pokemon Col. and XD weren't that great, I'm glad this game will be 2D.

Though, arguably, they could've used the Animal Crossing engine...

Wii lookin' wee next to PS3

Jun 30th 2006 12:45AM (Joystiq)
"I mean, it's a similar size to the Xbox, and people got pretty used to that."

I don't know, maybe because I never owned one myself, but last time I played a friend's I still laughed at it's size in comparison to the slim PS2 and the Gamecube. Then again, I would prefer a big meaty console that doesn't break to one that's small and sleek but difficult to move around without busting. The X-Box that same night then proceeded to survive a hard 5-foot fall. Sneakernet console movement is necessary for "at a friend's house" party play which is what the Wii is going to be great for. But then, Nintendo is known for making great hardware as far as durability goes.

Valve gets all Big Brother with HL2:E1 stats

"Bzzzt! Looks like most of us (especially the aforementioned 19.05%) are breezing through it in the 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 hour range."

Errr, wrong. Look at the page again. Average completion time is five hours.

Kojima loves analogies

I don't like that Hideo just compares the graphics potentials of the consoles without taking into account Wii's controller. If the PS3 is like going to the theatre and the X-Box 360 is like having a DVD setup in your home, than the Wii is like... well, like playing a video game instead of watching a movie.

Hints at a $200 Wii price?

May 25th 2006 6:08AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My prediction is that they'll give it to us for $149.99 or even $139.99 at launch with the understanding that there will never, ever, be a price drop. It makes sense: they don't want to just get the hardcore enthusiasts at launch and then lower the price for everyone else to get on board. That may make sense for the PS3 and X-Box, but not for Wii, Wii needs to have everyone on board from Day 1 in order to reach their goals. So I think the console will be priced from day 1 at the price it would be after all the price cuts eventually took place, or at least one, from the launch, with the understanding that further price cuts wouldn't be happening.

An educated look at the name Wii

May 4th 2006 3:19AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
At least make wiifanboy.com forward here... anyway, honestly, Wii isn't that bad a name, it could be better but I don't care. I talk about the Wii to people, I call it the Wii, I use it casually in conversation, it doesn't really sound that weird.

Bomberman online a go

Portable. Online. Multiplayer. Bomberman.

I just jizzed in my pants.

New video up at Super Mario Bros. site

Innovation is great, but it's not everything. The bottom line is fun, and while this may not be extremely innovative it's going to be very, very fun.

Confirmed: Revolution now called Wii

Apr 28th 2006 12:33AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Personally, I can't say the pronoun 'we' anymore without thinking of the console... and that is bloody brilliant. Associate your console with something people say every day and people won't be able to stop thinking about it!

Confirmed: Revolution now called Wii

Apr 28th 2006 12:10AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
And one more thing... if the name had been 'cool' in the way us geeky young males think the Revolution sounds cool, Nintendo would've immediately failed at it's goal, to appeal to everyone, young and old, male and female, gamer and non-gamer, to reach a different audience than gaming ever has before.

Besides, as soon as you show your friends Red Steel, none of them will think the Wii is lame anymore.
