"The patch to fix the glitch should be released by mid June." Patch 1.04 was originally released with the intention of correcting infinite combos and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mhrDyFEAgA">other game-breaking glitches</a> that had been discovered.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/patch-to-fix-street-fighter-x-tekken-patch-incoming/">Patch to fix Street Fighter X Tekken patch incoming</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 16:50:00 EST. It plugs into your Wii Remote and lets you play Virtual Console games (or anything else that supports Classic Controller use and doesn't require analog sticks) with a controller designed to replicate the SNES pad. It even has the colorful face buttons of the Japanese controller.<br /><br />Right now seems like a questionable time to buy a Wii accessory, but you'd <em>already</em> be using it to play old games. The impending obsolescence of the Wii isn't necessarily a deal breaker. Besides, the Wii U uses Wii Remotes; a Classic Controller might come in handy with that as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/thinkgeek-selling-snes-style-wii-classic-controller/">ThinkGeek selling SNES-style Wii Classic Controller</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 16:20:00 EST. The new update will be live May 24.<br /><br />Gutsu and Truffles join the cast (in other words, Sensei), bringing with them a shop where you can purchase powerups that add time, deflect bombs, or explode, in exchange for Starfruit, a new currency that you earn in-game.<br /><br />Speaking of currency, Halfbrick is handing out the iPhone game at no cost right now on its anniversary website. The offer is limited, but we'd be surprised if this Starfruit update weren't leading into an optional microtransaction-based system like that in <em>Jetpack Joyride</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/fruit-ninja-celebrates-2-year-anniversary-with-new-powerups-fre/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fruit Ninja celebrates 2-year anniversary with new powerups, free iOS codes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/fruit-ninja-celebrates-2-year-anniversary-with-new-powerups-fre/">Fruit Ninja celebrates 2-year anniversary with new powerups, free iOS codes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 15:50:00 EST. Developed by John Romero's social studio Loot Drop, <em>Commander </em>is linked with Ubisoft's free-to-play <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ghost-Recon-Online/">Ghost Recon Online</a></em> and the upcoming <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ghost-Recon-Future-Soldier/">Ghost Recon: Future Soldier</a></em>.<br /><br /><em>Ghost Recon Commander</em> is an isometric, tactical-strategy game within the popular Tom Clancy license, featuring ten "replayable missions, three difficulty levels and dozens of weapons for players to choose from."<br /><br />By playing <em>Commander</em>, players can unlock "exclusive weapons, weapon skins and bonuses to use while playing <em>Ghost Recon: Future Soldier</em> and <em>Ghost Recon Online</em>." There are also additional "benefits" to linking the products, such as unlocking characters in Commander by playing Future Soldier. It is advisable to check it out; however, we wouldn't recommend poking anyone on the battlefield. One of you won't make it out alive.<br /><br />Joystiq has contacted Ubisoft on the release date for <em>Commander</em>'s mobile version, which was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/04/loot-drop-deploying-ghost-recon-commander-to-facebook-mobile-de/">announced in April</a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghost-recon-commander-5-21-12/">Ghost Recon Commander (5/21/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghost-recon-commander-5-21-12/#5037273"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/aim-grenadescreenshot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghost-recon-commander-5-21-12/#5037274"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/basescreenshot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghost-recon-commander-5-21-12/#5037275"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/double-kill-prisonscreenshot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghost-recon-commander-5-21-12/#5037276"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/equip-ghostscreenshot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/ghost-recon-commander-5-21-12/#5037277"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/marketscreenshot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/ghost-recon-commander-deploys-to-facebook/">Ghost Recon Commander deploys to Facebook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 15:20:00 EST. Two players control teams of eight adventurers, each with different abilities, and try to capture areas of a maze-like dungeon. It's based on a <a href="http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12995/dungeon-twister">board game</a> (but not the Twister we normally associate with board games, which could theoretically be played in a dungeon).<br /><br />Upon seizing control of a segment, players can then rotate the area, opening new avenues for themselves and confounding their opponents (or leading directly into traps). The goal is either to escape or defeat your opponent.<br /><br /><em>Dungeon Twister</em> will take turns on PSN this summer.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/dungeon-twister-combines-strategy-board-games-and-swiveling-on/">Dungeon Twister combines strategy, board games, and swiveling on PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 14:20:00 EST. Nintendo sure hopes your answer to that question revolves around its impending E3 2012 press conference, and it's got a whole bevy of options should that be the case. Beyond partnering with Viacom to broadcast the show live (and commercial-free) on Spike TV and MTV2 (<em>there's still an MTV2?!?!</em>), Nintendo will offer the conference via internet on <a href="http://e3.nintendo.com/">its usual E3 site</a>.<br /><br />Nintendo's E3 presentation this year will focus on its next home console, the Wii U, though we'll no doubt hear a few new nuggets about the 3DS. As always, we're hoping for a triumphant return from Ravi Drums. Don't keep breaking our hearts, Nintendo! Let Mr. Drums free!<br /><br />Sony and Microsoft are also streaming their respective press conferences; more info can be found on each <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/08/sony-e3-press-conference-will-not-be-televised-but-it-will-be-s/">here</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/04/microsofts-e3-presser-to-stream-through-xbox-live-spike-tv/">here</a>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/nintendos-got-more-than-a-few-ways-to-watch-its-e3-2012-press-c/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nintendo's got more than a few ways to watch its E3 2012 press conference</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/nintendos-got-more-than-a-few-ways-to-watch-its-e3-2012-press-c/">Nintendo's got more than a few ways to watch its E3 2012 press conference</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 13:50:00 EST. You click the mouse, and every time you do there's a chance you'll get the loot you want . Yes, the trappings of role-playing and combat mechanics are there, weaker in some cases and stronger in others, but in terms of brain chemistry you're playing for the jackpot.<br /><br />As anyone who's been to Vegas will tell you, there are different kinds of slot machines. There's the rickety old unit sitting in the gas station near the airport. And there's the junky Jokers Wild machines blinking and chirping in that one casino downtown, where the air smells too much like your grandmother's bathroom.<br /><br />And then there are the machines in that one room in the Bellagio, where velvet seats wait underneath crystal chandeliers. That's where the shahs from Dubai come to play with thousand dollar tokens, where pretty ladies serve you drinks as you play, and where a private concierge will happily help you order up a steak, buy a Brooks Brothers suit, or get you anything else you might want. Blizzard's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/diablo-3"><em>Diablo 3</em></a> is that Bellagio room, high stakes and luxurious and ready to cater to your every dungeon crawler need.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/">Diablo 3 (10/21/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-deadly-reach-against-fallen-shamansized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-deadly-reach-against-sand-dervishsized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-deadly-reach-modified-with-indigo-runestonesized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-lashing-tail-kick-against-writhing-deceiverssized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548189"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-sweeping-windsized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/diablo-3-review-hitting-the-jackpot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Diablo 3 review: Hitting the jackpot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/diablo-3-review-hitting-the-jackpot/">Diablo 3 review: Hitting the jackpot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 12:50:00 EST. It's not a Tears for Fears reference, nor is it access to Prince's 1980s clothing selections! Nope, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/infinity-blade-2"><em>Infinity Blade 2</em></a>'s "Vault of Tears" is actually a massive (free) content update headed to Epic's latest iOS entry this Thursday.<br /><br />Several new enemies are being added, as well as "more than 50 new items" and rewards. Most bizarrely, the ability to "earn extra turns and invite their friends, family, and other non-Infinity Blade players to do in-game damage with the power of liking and re-tweeting battle calls." You read that right, folks: "the power of liking and re-tweeting battle calls." In the biz, we call that a "paradigm shift." I have walked the coasts of this land more times than I can count, treading upon the lives of creatures most foul. I have felled the beasts of the forest with arrows and steel and pillaged their leavings for aught. I have died, thousands of times, as have those who have adventured with me. And, in the end, I think back on almost none of it with fondness, or the nostalgic recollection given to hard fought, hard won battles. I am no hero.<br /><br />Listen now, as I play for you the song of my heartache. Let me spin you a tale of confusion, anger, humility and bona fide bewilderment in the face of abject mediocrity. Let me tell of Seraphina the Arisen, her loyal pawn Josephine, and their stupid, stupid quest to save the kingdom of Gransys. Let me tell you of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dragons-dogma"><em>Dragon's Dogma</em></a>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-4-10-12/">Dragon's Dogma (4/10/12)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-4-10-12/#4954338"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/dragonsdogmacapture0528-00000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-4-10-12/#4954339"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/dragonsdogmacapture0676-00000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-4-10-12/#4954340"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/dragonsdogmacapture0693-00000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-4-10-12/#4954341"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/dragonsdogmacapture0774-00000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dragons-dogma-4-10-12/#4954342"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/04/dragonsdogmacapture4824-00000bmpjpgcopy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/dragons-dogma-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dragon's Dogma review: Heartache every moment</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/dragons-dogma-review/">Dragon's Dogma review: Heartache every moment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 11:20:00 EST. As such, the company registered URLs in a variety of countries for "JustCause4" via URL proxy registrant Corporation Service Company, as discovered by <a href="http://fusible.com/2012/05/square-enix-registers-just-cause-4-domains-just-cause-3-not-yet-released/">Fusible</a>.<br /><br />Neither Square Enix nor Avalance Studios have said much about the Just Cause series as of late, though Avalance studio head Christofer Sundberg told Develop in early 2010 that a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/30/you-shouldnt-be-surprised-if-just-cause-3-is-announced/">third entry in the series</a> is very likely. It's also rumored that Avalanche has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/23/report-mad-max-game-at-avalanche-studios/">working on a Mad Max-based game</a>; we haven't heard about that project since September 2010. Beyond Avalanche's Stockholm-based studio, the privately owned Swedish company <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/17/avalanche-studios-opens-nyc-studio-working-on-project-mamba-f/">opened a New York City office</a> in 2011 to work on an unannounced game only known as "Project Mamba."<br /><br />Regardless, with just a few weeks left until E3, it's likely we'll hear more about whatever Avalanche is working on sooner, rather than later.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/square-enix-registers-domains-for-just-cause-4-despite-lack-of/">Square Enix registers domains for 'Just Cause 4' despite lack of Just Cause 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 10:50:00 EST. "That's my intention," Gilray said. "The QA might say 'noooo' but that's my plan anyway."<br /><br />The Vita version includes tweaks to make the game more natural on a handheld, like the ability to switch between third- and first-person views by double-tapping on the touchscreen, and using a "pinch" gesture to zoom.<br /><br />Gilray also hopes to get the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/14/oddworld-munchs-oddysee-hd-coming-q2-see-munchs-new-model/">HD update</a> of <em>Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee</em> out in June. That's planned for PS3 and Xbox, though of course only the PS3 version was mentioned.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/oddworld-strangers-wrath-vita-munchs-oddysee-hd-both-due-in/">Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Vita, Munch's Oddysee HD both due in June</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 10:15:00 EST. What that something is remains to be seen, as <em>Overkill</em> game director Ulf Andersson only described the collaboration as a "co-operative initiative" between the two companies. We do know that it'll involve both Overkill's <em>Payday: The Heist</em> and Valve's <em>Left 4 Dead</em> - two team-focused four-player co-operative romps (enough hyphens for you?).<br /><br />"We are working on a very cool blend of <em>Payday</em> and <em>Left 4 Dead</em>," Andersson wrote on his company's official site. "I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done." Oh, hospital, you say? We see what you're doing there, you crazy Swedes you!<br /><br />Andersson apparently couldn't help himself, and added one more zombie-themed quip. "Keep an eye out for more on this infectious and developing story." We know at least <em>one guy</em> we won't be letting into the safe house.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/payday-dev-collaborating-with-valve-on-left-4-dead-co-operative/">Payday dev collaborating with Valve on Left 4 Dead 'co-operative initiative'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 09:45:00 EST. The Gearbox Software-developed game was previously given a "fall 2012" launch window, and was planned as a Wii U hardware launch title (the game is also planned for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC), though no hard date was ever given before. In fact, despite the February 12 date announcement, the game's Wii U version still doesn't have a date. "A release date for the announced Wii U version will be revealed at a later time," the press release reads.<br /><br />Upset? That's understandable, but Sega's hoping to deflect some of that rage with a new trailer, which we've dropped just above.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/aliens-colonial-marines-delayed-to-february-2013/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Aliens: Colonial Marines delayed to February 2013 on 360/PS3/PC, Wii U date to be revealed later</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/aliens-colonial-marines-delayed-to-february-2013/">Aliens: Colonial Marines delayed to February 2013 on 360/PS3/PC, Wii U date to be revealed later</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 09:07:00 EST. According to <a href="http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=1331&amp;s=1111">Chart-Track</a>, <em>Max Payne 3</em> outperformed the previous sequel (from 2003) nearly 10 to 1.<br /> <br /> Chart-Track also noted the third installment in the Payne series bested <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/diablo-3">Diablo 3</a></em> by only about 8,000 sales. With <em>Max Payne 3</em> only available through disc-based sales and <em>Diablo 3</em> available through digital distribution, it would be fair to guess Diablo actually sold more. Every week, we take a look at, uh, <em>something</em> - meanwhile, the previous week's Japanese hardware sales figures are posted after the jump, and a discussion of said figures takes place in our comments. Sprightly proclamations of "It'sa me, Mario!" and the like have endeared voice actor Charles Martinet's work to the hearts and minds of millions, but it might surprise you to know that Martinet's first stint as the man behind the 'stache wasn't <em>Super Mario 64</em>. In fact, it wasn't a Nintendo game at all. <br /><br />Martinet's first appearance as the prolific plumber was actually <em>Mario's Game Gallery</em>, a digital collection of card and board games for DOS, Windows and Mac OS, developed by Presage Software and published by Interplay. <em>Mario's Game Gallery</em> predates <em>Super Mario 64</em> by roughly a year, but as you can tell from the collection of sound files above, Martinet had already settled into a ridiculous, heartwarming and hilarious groove as Mario Mario.<br /><br />It's <em>physically impossible</em> to make it all the way through this video without laughing. The above video shows off<em> Circus Challenge</em>, an action game from Newcastle University and Limbs Alive Ltd designed to help stroke patients regain motor control of their weakened hands and arms.<br /><br /><em>Circus Challenge</em> uses "next-gen" motion controllers - not the Wii, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/02/cnn-explores-the-wii-as-rehab/">other rehab systems</a> have - to have patients fling pies at clowns, juggle, dive and perform other Big Top-inspired feats, with the difficulty progressing as motor skills improve. Newcastle received &pound;1.5 million from the Health Innovation Challenge Fund for its project, and hopes to use the funds to provide remotely monitored, at-home therapy for stroke patients.<br /><br />Aside from all the philanthropy and innovation in the <em>Circus Challenge</em> project, we think the game design is pretty <em>pretty</em> as well. First, we were surprised that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/04/new-hawken-gameplay-teaser-doesnt-look-like-an-indie-game/">really great-looking mech shooter</a> is being made by an indie studio, then it surprised us to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/27/hawken-developers-raise-10-million-in-capital-to-launch/">learn that it would be free-to-play</a>. And here's another surprise: Dave Perry's cloud gaming system Gaikai has signed a deal to let players see <em>Hawken</em> running through the service in advance of the planned December 12 release date.<br /><br />Gaikai allows nearly any game to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/10/gaikai-powers-streaming-dead-rising-2-demo/">be streamed directly from its servers</a> to any browser, which means that the first impression of the graphics-intensive <em>Hawken</em> will be playable anywhere Gaikai will run (including on some tablets, and computers of all shapes and sizes). This deal makes a lot of sense from both sides: <em>Hawken</em> needs a large audience to get its free-to-play engine running, and Gaikai could use a big title to connect users to its servers. The Gaikai demo will be on <a href="http://www.playhawken.com/">playhawken.com</a> and a few other sites, so eyes open until then.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/20/hawken-to-be-playable-via-gaikai-prior-to-official-release/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hawken to be playable via Gaikai prior to official release</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/20/hawken-to-be-playable-via-gaikai-prior-to-official-release/">Hawken to be playable via Gaikai prior to official release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 May 2012 19:30:00 EST. That's how much creators Chris Jones and Aaron Conners have <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/251414413/tex-murphy-project-fedora">put together already</a> to make the long-awaited "Project Fedora," the next in the cult classic series of full motion video sci-fi noir titles.<br /><br />You can get a copy of the (eventual) game just by backing at the price of $15, and there are lots of other rewards for higher payments, including a collector's edition, new commentary for the old Tex Murphy games, and even the chance to beta test and be in the game itself. The creators say that the game will have full-motion video, but it will also include a 3D game world, with branching paths of story to follow. As Tex says in the wild Kickstarter video, "it's hat-in-hand time," so <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora">go over</a> and give if you want to get in early.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/20/tex-murphy-gets-a-kickstarter-page-for-project-fedora/">Tex Murphy gets a Kickstarter page for Project Fedora</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 May 2012 15:00:00 EST. Come, let us cherish our remaining time together by reading these webcomics from last week, and voting for our favorites after the break. <br /><br />Your Money or Your Life (<a href="http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2012/05/17/410-your-money-or-your-life/">Brawl in the Family</a>)<br />The Deepest Pit of Hell (<a href="http://www.virtualshackles.com/315">Virtual Shackles</a>)<br />It takes a village (<a href="http://www.myextralife.com/comic/it-takes-a-village/">Extra Life</a>)<br />Too Late (<a href="http://www.nerfnow.com/comic/755">Nerf Now!!</a>)<br />Masking Jape (<a href="http://www.awkwardzombie.com/index.php?page=0&amp;comic=051412">Awkward Zombie</a>)<br />Silence is Golden (<a href="http://gameovernation.com/archives/3145">GameOver Nation</a>)<br />Deuce Duel (<a href="http://www.hejibits.com/comics/deuce-duel/">Hejibits</a>)<br />You must win, my love (<a href="http://magicalgametime.com/post/23237650569/i-started-this-joust-comic-but-didnt-feel-like">Magical Game Time</a>)<br />Potion Pur&eacute;e (<a href="http://thegamercat.com/2012/05/potion-puree/">The Gamer Cat</a>)<br />The Bitter End (<a href="http://brentalfloss.com/comic.cfm">Brentalfloss: The Comic</a>)<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/weekly-webcomic-wrapup-is-welcoming-a-new-member-to-joystiq/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is welcoming a new member to Joystiq</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/weekly-webcomic-wrapup-is-welcoming-a-new-member-to-joystiq/">Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is welcoming a new member to Joystiq</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 23:30:00 EST. The information has since been pulled, but not before our friends at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/18/gamestop-mobile-launches-as-att-virtual-carrier/">Engadget</a> reported on it.<br /><br />So, as long as GameStop Mobile continues to <em>not</em> be a reality, we will continue reporting the information we've yet to learn about the service. <em>Hypothetically-speaking</em>, GameStop Mobile would require AT&amp;T-compatible or unlocked devices. The service would probably include pay-as-you-go five dollar plans and $55 monthly plans, which would include unlimited voice and text and 500MB of data, or 1GB of data for data-only device users.<br /><br />The someday-news of GameStop Mobile would make more sense out of the company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/29/report-gamestop-to-add-samsung-android-devices-to-trade-in-list/">recent addition</a> of Android devices to their trade-in lists.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/gamestop-offers-then-removes-atandt-mobile-data-plans/">GameStop offers, then removes AT&amp;T mobile data plans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 22:30:00 EST. Answering fan-submitted twitter questions on the <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/05/18/borderlands-2-your-questions-answered/#utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PSBlog+%28PlayStation.Blog%29&amp;utm_content=Google+Reader">PlayStation Blog</a>, Charles addressed several technical problems suffered by <em>Borderlands</em> - by and large, the news is positive. <br /><br />Voice chat issues that plagued the first game, for instance, are currently being worked on and the system "will be working for everyone when the game launches." Charles also said that while it's "too early for me to give any final numbers," <em>Borderland 2</em>'s framerate will "see an improvement over the first game."<br /><br />He also mentioned the upgraded user interfaces we've <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/09/co-opinion-slaughtering-skags-in-borderlands-2/">talked about before</a>, and that players will now automatically pick up ammo and currency dropped by felled villains: "There's a lot more useful data for gear comparison and also more descriptive text on the item cards as well. Having said that, the best way to know what a gun does is to use it."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/borderlands-2-fixes-voice-chat-framerate-issues-from-first-game/">Borderlands 2 fixes voice chat, framerate issues from first game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 21:00:00 EST. Among the more noteworthy features listed are the additions of "True Performance Skating" and "EA Sports Hockey I.Q."<br /> <br /> True Performance Skating is the latest in EA Sports' apparent efforts to introduce physics-based engines to player movement. Much like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fifa-12"><em>FIFA 12</em></a>'s Player Impact Engine, True Performance Skating promises to deliver the "explosiveness, momentum and top end speed displayed by today's NHL players," while utilizing over a thousand new player animations. The result, according to the team, should allow for more realistic and creative player movement.<br /> <br /> <em>NHL 13</em> also features EA Sports Hockey I.Q., and unfortunately it isn't a sports-themed quiz show. EA Sports elaborated on the shortcomings of the computer A.I. in last year's game, saying that "players were only aware of skaters in their immediate proximity and goalies could only react to the player in control of the puck." EA Sports Hockey I.Q. is expected to encourage, you guessed it, more intelligent decisions by computer-controlled players, who will now "read the whole ice."<br /> <br /> The series' Be a GM mode, traditionally a single-player feature, will allow players to pit their teams against one another in a full 30-team online league in <em>NHL 13</em>. EA Sports Canada says there will be a "companion mobile app" for players to connect to their online leagues as well.<br /> <br /> EA Sports also listed details on collector's edition versions of the game, which mostly includes Hockey Ultimate Team card packs. Both the <a href="http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/buy/productID.235395100">standard</a> and <a href="http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/buy/productID.249426100">collector's editions</a> of the game are available to pre-order now from the Origin store.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/knuckle-puck-time-nhl-13-slated-for-sept-11-collectors-editi/">Knuckle-puck time: NHL 13 slated for Sept. 11, collector's edition announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 18:00:00 EST. The Wii U logo has been moved to the bottom left-hand side of the unit, while the plus and minus buttons have been moved to the right. Two mysterious button-ish indentations exist below the d-pad and between the power button and battery life indicator; their function, if any, remains unclear. <a href="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/05/wiiutabletredesign.jpeg">Click here</a> for an omega hyper resolution version.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Well that didn't take long! The tweet in question has been removed, but a screenshot of said tweet has been safely ensconced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/redesigned-wii-u-tablet-shown-off-by-tt-games-qa-guy/#continued">after the break</a>.<br /><br />Additionally, eagle-eyed commenter Anthony noticed a couple more disparities between this unit and those seen at E3, namely that the Home button appears to be surrounded by an Xbox 360-style ring light, and that the tablet's edges look more dramatically beveled than previously seen. We've also noticed that the gates surrounding the analog sticks are circular, rather than octagonal, as seen on the Wii Nunchuk and Classic Controller.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/redesigned-wii-u-tablet-shown-off-by-tt-games-qa-guy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Redesigned Wii U tablet shown off by TT Games QA guy [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/redesigned-wii-u-tablet-shown-off-by-tt-games-qa-guy/">Redesigned Wii U tablet shown off by TT Games QA guy [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 17:13:00 EST. Slingin' webs is the essence of that fantasy, second only to being an accomplished journalist. That's why everyone likes Spider Man, right? The journalism?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/beenox">Beenox</a>'s solution for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/amazing-spider-man"><em>The Amazing Spider Man</em></a>, the "Web Rush," pulls double duty as both locomotive and combative solution by slowing down time, thus allowing the player to select their next web-oriented target of interest. Slowing down time will also be helpful for making J. Jonah Jameson's incredibly strict deadlines, which we know you're also concerned about. It's also possible that Zynga share holders jumped ship in favor of that new Facebook hotness, no longer having to settle for social second best. <br /><br />Regardless, the severe downturn in value lead to two trading halts on Zynga shares over the course of the day; once after reaching $7.17 a share, and once again after a slight increase in market value. Despite this, share values eventually dropped to as little as $6.93 before finally settling at $7.16.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/zynga-shares-close-at-record-low-following-lackluster-facebook-i/">Zynga shares close at record low following lackluster Facebook IPO</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 13:30:00 EST. E-commerce for the title ended yesterday, meaning that while the game it still active for the time being, it's no longer possible to convert your real-life dollars into fake <strike>Dragon Dollars</strike> <em>crowns</em> for use in Ferelden's many shops.<br /><br />BioWare has also initiated a "massive fire sale" on all in-game items until the servers go down, so anyone with stockpiles of fake internet money can get their fake internet money's worth, at least for a few weeks. If the thought of living without a weird Facebook adaptation of the Dragon Age world is too much to handle, take heart: A single-player version of the game will be made available on the official site "shortly after the current version of the game shuts down."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/psa-ea-shutting-down-dragon-age-legends-servers-june-18/">PSA: EA shutting down Dragon Age Legends servers June 18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 10:30:00 EST. Seamless Studio Director Dan Magaha said, "As a small indie developer working in the town where <em>Wing Commander</em> was born, it's been an enormous honor to build our homage to the classic space games we loved when we were young, and we hope that passion comes through in the quality of our work."<br /><br /><em>SOL: Exodus</em> launched on Steam earlier this year and, for whatever hiccups it may have as an indie project (many smoothed since launch), it's still totally worth it for $10.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sol-exodus-pc/">Sol: Exodus (PC)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sol-exodus-pc/#4765740"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/sol2012-01-05-saturn01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sol-exodus-pc/#4765741"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/sol2012-01-09-pluto01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sol-exodus-pc/#4765742"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/sol2012-01-09-upgradescreen_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sol-exodus-pc/#4765743"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/sol2012-01-17-triton02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/sol-exodus-pc/#4775343"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/01/sol2012-01-09-neptune01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/sol-exodus-flying-to-all-digital-distribution-systems-european/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>SOL: Exodus flying to all digital distribution systems, European retail this summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/19/sol-exodus-flying-to-all-digital-distribution-systems-european/">SOL: Exodus flying to all digital distribution systems, European retail this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 May 2012 09:45:00 EST.
