In addition, the download versions of the games <em>007 Legends, Blood Stone</em> and <em>Quantum of Solace</em> don't show up on Amazon, though of course the disc versions are still available there.<br /><br />The likely explanation would seem to be expiring rights to the 007 license, but the timing doesn't make sense on that, considering that <em>007 Legends</em> was just released in October (and November on PC). We're investigating the matter, though not in the sexy, brutal James Bond method: we've just asked Activision about it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/04/bond-games-removed-from-steam-and-activision-online-stores/">Bond games removed from Steam and Activision online stores</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Jan 2013 10:00:00 EST. "The idea being that James Bond isn't just a gun that walks around the world and shoots people. He's a suave manipulator, he's a talented martial artist, he's a secret agent. We wanted to cross that 007 with Jason Bourne, where he's been modified in some way; you're not sure what, but he's definitely deadly.<br /><br />"We really wanted to push the acting side, the digital acting. We really wanted to be very high drama, very intense scenes. I always think of the scene in the second Bourne movie where Jason Bourne's choking the guy out with a book and he's right in his face and it's this very intense moment. That was one of the key things we wanted to carry off."<br /><br />No, <em>Agent </em>didn't have anything to do with the PS3-exclusive game that Rockstar announced in 2009, also dubbed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/agent"><em>Agent</em></a>. EA "didn't believe in the concept" for BioWare's game and <em>Agent </em>was sent off on a mission from which it'd never return:<em> counting all the grains of sand on a windy beach</em>. Or just the recycle bin.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/06/bioware-was-working-on-a-spy-game-agent-in-2009/">BioWare was working on a spy game, 'Agent,' in 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Dec 2012 18:30:00 EST. Activision had an interesting balancing act on its hands with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007-2010"><em>Goldeneye</em></a>. It knew that this was a nostalgia title for the Nintendo 64 crowd, yet it had to be wary of "copying" anything from the Rare-developed 1997 title of the same name for legal reasons. So the company goes back to the source material (the film, that is), replaces Pierce Brosnan with Daniel Craig, and builds an entirely new game -- yet all the while hoping it rides its name recognition right off the shelves. "Somebody's remaking <em>Goldeneye</em>! Remember <em>Goldeneye</em>? <em>Goldeneye</em>!"<br />
<br />
This isn't a remake. It's a new Bond game based on an older film. Remember when EA made a video game version of <em>From Russia With Love</em> in 2005? It's like that, but if they replaced Sean Connery with Daniel Craig. And gave him a smartphone.<br />

If your Friday was feeling light on <em>dashing</em> digitized photos of <em>dashing</em> Daniel Craig, Activision is here to help alleviate the issue. Not only has <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/goldeneye-007">GoldenEye 007</a></em>'s publisher released a handful of new screens that we've dropped into a gallery for you below, but there's also a new trailer that we've embedded after the break. <br />
<br />
What, that's not enough? How about some photos of that <em>other</em> Daniel Craig looking dashing in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/James-Bond-007-Blood-Stone/">another </a></em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/James-Bond-007-Blood-Stone/">Bond game</a>? Well, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/james-bond-007-blood-stone-trailer-is-for-your-eyes-only/">here you go</a>! It's Bond day, didn't you know?<br />

James Bond is a man of action. Mere screenshots can't do his <em>daring</em> justice. But a trailer? Now we're talking. See Bond run, gun and generally <em>blow things up</em> <em>good </em>in the first trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/games/James-Bond-007-Blood-Stone"><em>James Bond 007: Blood Stone</em></a>, which you'll find after the break. It's the kind of stuff that will leave fans of Her Majesty's top super-spy shaken <em>and </em>stirred.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/james-bond-007-blood-stone-trailer-is-for-your-eyes-only/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>James Bond 007: Blood Stone trailer is for your eyes only</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/16/james-bond-007-blood-stone-trailer-is-for-your-eyes-only/">James Bond 007: Blood Stone trailer is for your eyes only</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jul 2010 15:20:00 EST. Assassinating <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/22/james-bond-bloodstone-retailer-listing/">months of speculation</a>, Activision has finally announced its new James Bond game, helmed by <em>Project Gotham Racing</em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/blur">Blur</a></em> developer Bizarre Creations. Featuring an original story by Bruce Feirstein (who penned the screenplay for <em>GoldenEye</em> and the script for 2003's Bond game, <em>Everything or Nothing</em>), <em>James Bond 007: Blood Stone</em> features a mix of third-person cover-based shooting, hand-to-hand combat and "adrenaline-fuelled driving sequences" on land and sea -- and air, if there are enough exploding ramps. <br />
<br />
Daniel Craig will reprise his role as suave spy guy (it's not like they need him for <a href="http://www.imdb.com/news/ni3182555/">a movie right now</a>) alongside Judi Dench, who once again plays stern boss lady "M." Grammy award-winning singer Joss Stone will be playing <em>Blood Stone</em>'s obligatory gun-toting temptress, presumably because <em>Oliver</em> Stone couldn't quite pull off the evening gowns. Stone -- that's Joss -- will also provide the game's original theme song, "I'll Take it All," with the aid of Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics.<br />
<br />
Bizarre's <em>James Bond 007: Blood Stone</em> is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this holiday season. N-Space is developing a DS version for the same time frame. According to a <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6259256.html">Gamespot</a> report, a retailer website slip-up may have outed "James Bond: Bloodstone" as the title for the long-awaited "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/bizarre-making-bond-title-for-2009-new-racing-ip-is-mario-kart/">racing and driving focused</a>" 007 game from Bizarre Creations. HMV reportedly posted a listing for a game with that title (though it's nowhere to be found now) in the "driving and racing" category. It was also tagged for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.<br />
<br />
With the next Bond film currently <a href="http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/04/bond_23_on_hold_indefinite_hol.html">on hold</a>, it's up to Activision to keep the spy in active duty. Activision's plan to annualize the <em>Bond</em> franchise -- regardless of the status of a movie to tie into -- has already come unraveled, with the decision to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/11/activision-delays-james-bond-title-to-2010/">pull Mr. Bond</a> out of <em>Modern Warfare 2's</em> line of sight this holiday. So, Bizarre Creations' "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/bizarre-making-bond-title-for-2009-new-racing-ip-is-mario-kart/">racing and driving focused</a>" crack at <em>Bond</em> is now due in 2010, unattached to the Daniel Craig-powered, as-yet-untitled 2011 <em>Bond</em> movie. This poses an obvious question: With no theatrical attachment, will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/joystiq-eyes-only-on-james-bond-in-quantum-of-solace-the-gam/">confessed gamer</a> Daniel Craig reprise the interactive Bond role or will Bizarre's seemingly unique take on the license also have a unique actor in the role of 007?<br />
<br />
According to Adam Croasdell, the <em>EastEnders</em> star (it's a long-running BBC soap opera, for the non-British amongst us) has wrapped up voice work on the game. "Oddly enough I have just played James Bond in the new <em>James Bond </em>video game -- how weird is that?" Croasdell told BBC Asian Network, as reported by the <a href="http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5iiZMVEc4LxbaXcQnUWv2psxR1YOw">Press Association</a>. "I think video games and the making of that type of technology, being in a funny one-piece suit and being shot with 60 cameras, I think that's sort of the future."<br />
<br />
We're right there with you, Croasdell! Oh, and you better get used to that one-piece suit ... Activision has plans to milk that <em>Bond</em> license before it expires in 2014.<br />

Activision, as the bastion of original IP development, announced a number of megaton titles in development for 2010. Names dropped at its investor's call include new additions to its venerable lineup of franchises: <em>007</em>, <em>Tony Hawk</em>, <em>Spider-man</em>, <em>Transformers</em> and <em>Shrek</em>.<br /><br />Those hungry for innovation will be able to look forward to a new original action IP from the company. In addition, Activision plans on expanding the <em>Call of Duty</em> franchise to new genres. <em>Call of Duty Kart</em>? <em>Call of Duty Party</em>? <em>Call of Duty Hero: Metallica</em>? We're psyched.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/activision-announces-megaton-surprises-for-2010-007-tony-hawk/">Activision announces megaton surprises for 2010: 007, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Jun 2009 12:10:00 EST. But the most notable release, if only because it makes the joke in our headline work, is an iPhone/Touch <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Ghostbusters/">Ghostbusters</a> </em>game to be released in June.<br /><br />According to the press release, the game allows players to "catch ghosts and save citizens from being slimed as you make your way through the big city." The June release date, which coincides with the console <em>Ghostbusters </em>games, suggests that it will be similar in design to one of them -- probably either the DS or <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/joystiq-busts-some-ghosts-says-wii-port-plays-best/">Wii game</a>.<br /><br />Also potentially cool: <em>Top Agent</em>, a multiplayer James Bond game for iPhone to be released in August.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/03/30/ghostbusters-iphone-game-announced/">Electricpig</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/who-you-gonna-call-on-your-iphone/">Who you gonna call ... on your iPhone?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 01:00:00 EST. <div align="left">Industry rumors either turn out to be true or false and in the case of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bizarre-creations">Bizarre Creations</a>' future projects, every <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/new-bizarre-racer-set-for-2009/">racing</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/rumor-bizarre-working-on-a-new-007/"><em>Bond</em> rumor</a> you heard over the last year has turned out to be ... well, true.</div>
</div>
<br />
As part of Activision's Massive upfront (the same one that announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-announced/"><em>Modern Warfare 2</em></a>), we <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/12/03/activision-announces-guitar-hero-5-new-tony-hawk-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-more-at-in-game-ad-conference/">learn</a> that Bizarre is hard at word on an original <em>James Bond</em> game as well as an original racer IP that's being described as a "Mario Kart meets Forza." As is the norm, release details and game specifics were not given.<br />

All said, we're glad to see Bizarre hard at work on new projects, but would like to see some fresh <em>Geometry </em>in 2009. We're proud <em>Geometry </em>addicts.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/04/bizarre-working-on-new-bond-and-racer-projects/">Bizarre working on new Bond and racer projects</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Dec 2008 10:30:00 EST. At a summit held by Massive for in-game advertising, Activision confirmed that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bizarre">Bizarre Creations</a> is working on a new third-person Bond title for release in 2009. According to the <a href="http://twitter.com/ncroal">Twitter feed</a> of Newsweek's N'Gai Croal (trust us, he's legit), the game is being touted as "racing and driving focused." The executive also mentioned Bizarre's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/bizarre-creationss-new-racing-ip-due-fy09/">new racing IP</a>, describing it as "<em>Mario Kart </em>meets <em>Forza.</em>" It's not much (in fact, it's somewhat paradoxical), but it does hint at a departure from <em>Project Gotham Racing's </em>realism -- relative to Mario Kart!<br />
<br />
The executive also reportedly said the <span class="entry-content">next <em>Call of Duty Modern Warfare</em> is due out Fall 2009. We're uncertain if that's confirmation of the next <em>COD's </em>setting or just a glib way of saying "Infinity Ward's <em>COD</em> series." We're reaching out to Activision for clarification on all these statements.</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/bizarre-making-bond-title-for-2009-new-racing-ip-is-mario-kart/">Bizarre making Bond title for '09, new racing IP is 'Mario Kart meets Forza'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 16:44:00 EST. Are people getting less excited about midnight launches? Or does it just depend on the game, or even the event itself? We'll have a chance to test that theory this week with what looks to be yin and yang launches. Last night we went to the midnight launch of Activision's James Bond game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-of-solace/"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a>, and at the other end you've got <em>Gears of War 2</em> launching on Friday. We'll have to see how they compare, because last night's <em>Quantum of Solace</em> launch was a big <span style="font-style: italic;">Dr. No</span>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-launch/">Quantum of Solace Launch</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-launch/#1136674"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/quantum6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-launch/#1136673"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/quantum2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-launch/#1136672"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/quantum21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-launch/#1136671"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/quantum13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-launch/#1136670"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/quantum10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/los-angeles-quantum-of-solace-launch-event-fizzles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Los Angeles Quantum of Solace launch event fizzles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/04/los-angeles-quantum-of-solace-launch-event-fizzles/">Los Angeles Quantum of Solace launch event fizzles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Nov 2008 14:15:00 EST. Suave super spy James Bond will live and let buy on November 4th, with the release of his Q-riously named movie tie-in, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-of-solace"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a>. Coming from Treyarch -- with love -- to every platform ever, the 007 shooter puts you in the potentially exploding shoes of the new(ish) franchise frontman, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/craig-dench-on-board-for-quantum-of-solace-game/">Daniel Craig</a>, and tasks you with saving the world, swirling martinis and bedding duplicitous dames. Indeed, with the game featuring several flashbacks to <em>Casino Royale</em>, it seems someone definitely understood that our demands are for <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1200692/">Eva</a>. <br /><br />Activision has also announced that those who pre-order the game from GameStop will receive a download token, redeemable for a forthcoming multiplayer map pack. In addition to "a variety of classic modes," <em>Quantum of Solace</em> will grant you a view to a team kill in several modes, including "Bond Versus," "Bond Evasion," and "Golden Gun." Note that this bonus applies to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions -- this isn't the spy who loved Wii. <br /><br />Alright, no more idiotic puns and references. We've got to save some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/activision-blizzard-plans-yearly-bond-games/">for next year</a>, you know.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/">Quantum of Solace: The Game</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-pool1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997051"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---pool-shootout1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997050"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-spa1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997049"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-spa-shootout1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997048"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-hotel1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/22/quantum-of-solace-granted-on-nov-4-pre-order-nets-map-pack/">Quantum of Solace granted on Nov. 4, pre-order nets map pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Sep 2008 18:10:00 EST. <div align="left">Variety continues to dig through yesterday's "analyst day" presentation by Activision-Blizzard brass, but has already uncovered a number of "ah-hah"-worthy tidbits. This one includes the number 7. 007. As in James Bond, who, according to the company, will star in yearly <em>Bond</em> franchise titles from the company - currently working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-of-solace"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a>, built on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-4"><em>Call of Duty 4</em></a> engine - whether there's a new <em>Bond</em> movie release to tie them in with or not.<br /><br />Specific genres, systems, and developers weren't mentioned, but this very aggressive business model would likely target as many game types and platforms as possible to reap maximum rewards from the risks taken. As Variety's Ben Fritz points out, this strategy could turn south rather quickly should <em>Quantum of Solace</em> not live up to gamer - and, more, importantly sales - expectations.</div>

We're happy to report that when James Bond returns to video games this fall with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Quantum-of-Solace/">Quantum of Solace</a></em> he'll be voiced by our new favorite 007, Daniel Craig. But we're a little worried about how we're going to focus on the game when our undies continue to spontaneously drop to the ground, coaxed off by Bond's baritone brogue! The game will also feature Judi Dench as M and new additions Mathieu Amalric and Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko.<br /><br />... Listen, did we type that part about our undies dropping out loud? No? OK, thank goodness.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/craig-dench-on-board-for-quantum-of-solace-game/">Craig, Dench on board for Quantum of Solace game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 09:50:00 EST. Poor James Bond. The guy's been passed around so many times by so many companies that no one seems to know what to do with him any more. Activision was so open to ideas that they actually surveyed fans on what perspective they'd like to see in the next double-o adventure.<br /><br />According to MTV, the community was divided, with 60 percent wanting a first-person view and 40 voting third-person. We know how Activision responded (including both perspectives in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Quantum%20of%20Solace">Quantum of Solace</a></em>), but we're curious how you will: Is your perfect Bond game through the agent's eyes ... or the back of his head?<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/">Quantum of Solace: The Game</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-pool1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997051"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---pool-shootout1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997050"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-spa1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997049"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-spa-shootout1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997048"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-hotel1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/12/bond-fans-have-different-perspectives-on-different-perspectives/">Bond fans have different perspectives on different perspectives</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 12 Aug 2008 11:30:00 EST. Action games in general aren't the best for the touchscreen -- but we want to be proven wrong. Will Daniel Craig's portable outing be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/ds-fanboy-review-ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword/">an exception</a> to the laws of crappiness? Unnnnnlikely.<br /><br />Using your keen spy senses, examine the gallery and predict the fate of <em>Quantum of Solace</em>. The movie will be undoubtedly cool, but that might be all we can hope for.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-4/">Quantum of Solace</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-4/#925890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/quantum_of_solace__nds__-_brawl_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-4/#925889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/quantum_of_solace__nds__-__searching_in_science_center_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-4/#925888"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/quantum_of_solace__nds__-__jumping_roof_to_roof_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-4/#925887"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/quantum_of_solace__nds__-__bathroom_battle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-4/#925886"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/07/quantum_of_solace__nds__-__airport_battle_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via press release]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/quantum-of-solace-screens-look-pretty-bad/">Quantum of Solace screens look pretty bad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Jul 2008 15:00:00 EST. James Bond returns to movie theaters this fall in <span style="font-style: italic;">Quantum of Solace</span>, and this time he'll be back in video game format as well. Treyarch has been developing a <span style="font-style: italic;">Quantum of Solace</span> game in conjunction with the new flick, enjoying carte blanche from the producers to photograph and use everything from the movie in the game, including blonde Bond Daniel Craig. You can count on his stoic visage making an appearance, not to mention his recognizable voice. Find out what we learned from this first peek at the game, freshly declassified.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/">Quantum of Solace: The Game</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997052"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-pool1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997051"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---pool-shootout1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997050"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-spa1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997049"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-spa-shootout1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/quantum-of-solace-the-game/#997048"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/quantum-of-solace---casino-hotel1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/joystiq-eyes-only-on-james-bond-in-quantum-of-solace-the-gam/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq eyes (only) on: James Bond in Quantum of Solace: The Game</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/joystiq-eyes-only-on-james-bond-in-quantum-of-solace-the-gam/">Joystiq eyes (only) on: James Bond in Quantum of Solace: The Game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 02 Jul 2008 14:23:00 EST. What can we glean from this screenshot? Well, there's Daniel Craig, and he will probably use a pistol while standing by an indoor body of water at some point. We eagerly await the next screenshot to find out what, exactly, Daniel Craig would shoot at.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/see-the-first-image-from-quantum-of-solace/">See the first image from Quantum of Solace</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 19 Jun 2008 17:00:00 EST. The upcoming 007<em> </em>game just got an ammo clip of good news.* Quantum of Solace, currently in development <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/activision-doubles-up-007-projects/">at Treyarch</a>, is running on the <em>Call of Duty 4</em> game engine and due out this Fall alongside the movie. "We look forward to launching Bond: Quantum of Solace in Q3 concurrent with movie. This game uses the Call of Duty 4 engine and technology to bring Bond games to a new level," said Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith in a <a href="http://phx.corporate-ir.net/playerlink.zhtml?c=60455&amp;s=wm&amp;e=1829011">conference call</a> yesterday (36:20 mark).<br /><br />Why does this excite us? Simply put: <em>COD4</em> is one of the best multiplayer experiences currently available on consoles, and it gives us hope that this version will be able recapture the magic we felt when we first tried split-screen <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/goldeneye">Goldeneye</a></em> on the Nintendo 64. It also gives us an idea as to what platforms we can expect to see the game on -- likely Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and perhaps PC. Quantum of Solace, the film, is releasing October 31 in the UK, November 7 in North America.<br /><br />* Note: Fear not, the writer of this joke has indeed been eliminated.<br /><em></em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/new-bond-game-quantum-of-solace-runs-on-cod4-engine-launching-w/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Bond game Quantum of Solace runs on COD4 engine, launching with movie</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/new-bond-game-quantum-of-solace-runs-on-cod4-engine-launching-w/">New Bond game Quantum of Solace runs on COD4 engine, launching with movie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 May 2008 15:30:00 EST. Activision's recent conference call didn't consist entirely of gloating about those <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/08/activision-q4-sales-up-80-to-1-48-billion/">record holiday-quarter sales</a>, as the publisher also took the opportunity to outline some of its plans for 2008. It seems we're in for quite the party, albeit one where you'll actually remember <em>everybody</em>'s name. Guitar Hero? James Bond? Tony Hawk? Spider-Man? Yeah, we've met.<br /><br />According to a <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117980462.html?categoryid=20&amp;cs=1"><em>Variety</em> report</a>, the aforementioned party will see multiple performances by The Instrument Protagonists, due to promote two <em>Guitar Hero</em> "add-ons" in Spring and a full sequel in Fall. While party animals debate the game tie-ins to animated films <em>Kung Fu Panda</em> and <em>Madagascar 2</em>, suave gentleman will attempt to decrypt <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/James-Bond/">James Bond</a>'s film adaptation, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/possible-title-of-james-bonds-next-game-announced/"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a>. A roughly equal amount of solace will be found by the comic fans huddled around the punch bowl, as new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/SpiderMan/">Spider-Man</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Marvel%20Ultimate%20Alliance">Marvel Ultimate Alliance</a></em> games are expected to knock on the door at some point during the festivities.<br /><br />Finally, don't expect <em>Tony Hawk</em> to be turned away (he's on the guest list), especially since he's bringing his friend ... uh ... <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/callofduty4"><em>Call of Duty</em></a>? We honestly don't know where we're going with this analogy. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/02/activisions-200.html">The Cut Scene</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/08/activisions-2008-promises-more-guitar-hero-james-bond-spider/">Activision's 2008 promises more Guitar Hero, James Bond, Spider-Man</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Feb 2008 06:30:00 EST. So, we (like many of the film fans out there) heard yesterday that James Bond's 22nd adventure would not, as we had secretly hoped, be called <em>James Bond 22</em>. No, producers decided to go once more to Ian Fleming's back catalog and dredge up the name <em>Quantum of Solace</em>, lifted from a short story featuring the world's most prolific spy. We didn't think much more about it.<br /><br />But then today, we started wondering: Could <em>Quantum of Solace </em>also be the name of Bond's next video game adventure too? It makes a lot of sense, though we're not laying any money on it. What we are willing to say is that it would be the best title for a Bond game <em>ever</em>, except for <em>Goldeneye</em>, <em>Everything Or Nothing</em>, <em>The World Is Not Enough</em>, <em>Nightfire</em>, <em>Agent Under Fire</em>, <em>Tomorrow Never Dies</em> and <em>From Russia With Love.</em> Oh ... and what ever that racing game was called. Except for those, it's <em>the best</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/possible-title-of-james-bonds-next-game-announced/">Possible title of James Bond's next game announced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 10:20:00 EST. The good news? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/rumorang-goldeneye-coming-xbox-live-arcade/">Those rumors you've heard about a port of the game</a> for the Xbox Live Arcade are true! The bad news? The release of the title has been delayed indefinitely, due to a licensing disagreement between Microsoft and Nintendo. Sorry to get your hopes up -- we probably should have led with that last part.<br /><br />To further rub salt in your wounds, <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165391">1UP has some sweet details</a> about the game-that-wasn't, which was only two short months from completion. Apparently, the game was a faithful recreation of the N64 classic, including all the maps and weapons from the original, with the addition of multiplayer support over Xbox Live.<br /><br />Instead of giving up on what would have been one of the greatest XBLA titles to date, we highly encourage everyone to exercise their civil trolling rights in an attempt to convince Nintendo and Microsoft that there's more than enough of our money to go around. Already, thousands of rabid wannabe 00 Agents have <a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/rare007/petition.html">signed petitions to bring the game back to the development table</a> -- have you?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/13/xbla-goldeneye-confirmed-also-canceled/">XBLA Goldeneye confirmed, also canceled</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 13 Jan 2008 16:00:00 EST. Or what we think to be the truth.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165391">1UP</a> reports that the XBLA version of <em>GoldenEye</em> <em>was</em> in development by Rare for two solid months before the project got shelved. Shelved, because Microsoft and Nintendo couldn't agree on financials, profit sharing and all the grown-up business stuff that's involved. As a result of the shelving, the <em>GoldenEye</em> and XBLA communities have united over at <a href="http://goldeneyexbl.blogspot.com/">GoldenEye XBL</a> in an effort to bring attention to the drama at hand by sending out emails and doing some old fashioned <a href="http://www.petitiononline.com/rare007/petition.html">petition signing</a>. Again, we can't be 100% certain that the <em>GoldenEye</em> / Microsoft / Nintendo drama is based on fact, but if you choose to believe and <em>GoldenEye</em> on the XBLA is important to you, then by all means get active. Resting their cred on "very reliable sources" and evidence that they claim to have seen, Xbox Evolved is reporting that Nintendo 64 classic <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Goldeneye/">Goldeneye</a></em> will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade shortly before Activision (the current 007 IP holder) releases their new James Bond title. The news comes (according to the site) after an agreement between Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios and Activision. XE says the game will feature new graphics and online multiplayer, and that other Rare games may be in the pipeline like <em>Banjo Kazooie </em>and <em>Perfect Dark</em>.<br /><br />OK, sounds great, but is it true? We have no evidence one way or the other, but we think it would at least make sense for all the parties. Microsoft gets more solid XBLA titles, Rare (which is owned by Microsoft) reminds people of the company's glory days and MGM gets more publicity for James Bond. As for Activision, well, we already know they're not above <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/08/air-guitar-rocker-gets-guitar-hero-license/">pimping out a license for cash</a>. We'll keep you updated.<br /><br />[<strong>UPDATE</strong>: This looks like it <em>was</em> happening, but has been been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/13/xbla-goldeneye-confirmed-also-canceled/">put on hold</a>.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/09/rumorang-goldeneye-coming-xbox-live-arcade/">Rumorang: Goldeneye coming to Xbox Live Arcade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jan 2008 11:00:00 EST. Oh joy! Word on the street (<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164847">EGM's street</a>) is that recently acquired Bizarre Creations is hard at work on a new (get this) James Bond game. Yup, that same James Bond 007 guy that used to be so darn awesome, but has gone missing as of late. The rumored Bizarre Bond game is supposed to be heavy on the vehicle driving (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pgr4">makes sense</a>), which tickles us to pieces. Bizarre Creations making a Bond game ... this should be good.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/rumor-bizarre-working-on-james-bond-game/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/11/rumor-bizarre-working-on-a-new-007/">Rumor: Bizarre working on a new 007</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Dec 2007 17:00:00 EST. Heck, when you get to the point where an invisible car escapes from an ice palace being melted by a <em>space laser</em>, the point of no return is but a speck in the rear-view mirror. Will Activision find the gaming equivalent of <em>Casino Royale</em>?<br /><br />Speaking at a BMO Capital Markets conference (as covered by <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30391">GamesIndustry.biz</a>), Activision CEO Bobby Kotick pointed to the N64's <em>GoldenEye</em> as the title that made Ian Fleming's suave spy into "one of the great videogame franchises of all time." He revealed that Activision is currently working on two Bond projects, and that his plan for success involves the obvious: "I think the key to re-energising the Bond franchise is going to be ultimately the highest possible game quality." Make a good game to reinvigorate a franchise full of crap ones -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/residentevil4"><em>got it</em></a>.<br /><br />It was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/17/treyarch-developing-bond-game/">revealed</a> in July last year that Treyarch, developer of <em>Spider-Man 3</em> and <em>Call of Duty 3</em>, was to create a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/007/">007</a> game for Activision. If Treyarch can administer a <em>Casino Royale</em> reboot of the games, we imagine it'll make them a bit like Daniel Craig. We'll make fun of them at first, but the final product will silence us.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/08/activision-doubles-up-007-projects/">Activision doubles up 007 projects</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Nov 2007 16:37:00 EST. We're still not saying it's likely, but there may be a better chance than the proverbial snowball has in hell that we'll see a Rare game. <br /><br />By "Rare game," of course, we mean <em>GoldenEye</em> and you know it. We look fondly upon our time (lots and <em>lots</em> of time) with this beloved multiplayer gem. The simple joy of the grenade launcher. The force with which we cursed our best friends. The <em>violence</em> that ensued. Good times. Talking about it can bring a tear to the eye. But what about you? We talk about it, sure, but would you pay for <em>GoldenEye</em> on the Virtual Console? For that matter, do you think we'll even see it? James Bond. Likely based on the upcoming film franchise reboot, <em>Casino Royale</em>, the game is targeting next-generation platforms and the general consensus that Bond games aren't worth a (Money) penny.<br /><br />Having rescued the Bond license from the metallic hands that programmed <em>Goldeneye: Rogue Agent</em>, Activision will no doubt attempt to do right by Fleming fans if they wish to reap the rewards from their investment. Giving Treyarch the job seems like a good decision, certainly superior to that of placing a permanently disgruntled, blond man into the suave spy's shoes. Indeed, it seems preferable to place the gamer in those rocket-propelled shoes instead. Who wouldn't want to be a man of mystery (like, which STD does he have?) traipsing across the world, bedding foreign beauties and then killing said foreign beauties when they inevitably betray you? Yup,
<strike>M</strike> EA's out of the picture and number two publisher, Activision, will be handling the James Bond
franchise from now on. <em>"Who does number two work for?"<br /></em><br />EA has been chasing the success of
Rare's 1997 N64 classic, <em>Goldeneye</em>; having secured the rights to the Bond franchise until 2009, EA has made
five Bond titles, none of which achieved <em>Goldeneye</em>'s level of success. When Sony bought MGM in 2004, things
apparently went south (shades of the messy <em>Never Say Never Again</em> <a
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_say_never_again">situation</a>). EA has since decided to give up the franchise
to "refocus on all-new games" allowing Activision to obtain the exclusive license to the franchise until 2014.
<br /><br />Will Activision reinvigorate the Bond franchise while EA creates attractive, original titles? Never say
never.<br /><br />[Thanks to everyone that sent this one in]<br /><br />(Update: cleared up some confusing language.
It's much better now.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/04/bond-takes-order-from-activision-eas-out/">Bond takes order from Activision, EA's out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 May 2006 11:30:00 EST.
