<br />
<a href="http://www.reusgame.com/"><em>Reus</em></a>, the 2D god game from Abbey Games, is available today, <em>right now</em>, for $10 (&euro;10, &pound;7) on <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/222730/">Steam</a>, <a href="http://www.gog.com/gamecard/reus">GOG</a>, <a href="http://www.desura.com/games/reus">Desura</a> and <a href="http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-REUS/reus">Gamersgate</a>. It's PC only for now, with Mac and Linux ports planned.<br />
<br />
<em>Reus</em> offers a twist on the standard god game narrative, asking players to find balance in the world by controlling nature with four giants. The humans have a strong will of their own, and the player is tasked with ensuring they can thrive, but not too much, lest they become corrupted and destroy the planet.<br />
<br />
<em>Reus</em> is on sale on Steam, GOG and Desura, for 10 percent off ($9). If you want to show Abbey Games your full monetary appreciation today, Gamersgate is the way to go.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/reus-2d-god-game-featuring-four-giants-blows-through-pc-today/">Reus, 2D god game featuring four giants, blows through PC today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 20:00:00 EST. The Kickstarter has 30 days to raise $400,000. If it reaches its goal, Robotoki wants to launch the game in seven months, in November of this year.<br /><br />Led by former Infinity Ward man Robert Bowling, Robotoki's <em>The Adventures of Dash</em> is a side-scrolling puzzle platformer - for PC, Mac, Linux, Ouya, iOS, Android and consoles - starring Dash, a 9-year-old boy with narcolepsy.<br /><br />Dash falls asleep anywhere and for any reason, including at school, in his lunch, while on a walk and in all manner of slightly dangerous situations. When he dreams, the art style of the game changes along with the gameplay. <em>The Adventures of Dash</em> pulls art from a range of 2D artists and throws it all into one game under a semi-seamless plot device.<br /><br />Robotoki hopes to launch <em>Dash</em> on PC, Mac, Linux and Ouya in November, and will then work on building touchscreen controls for mobile. Profit from these initial sales will fund console development, though if the Kickstarter raises more than $400,000, the extra cash will be used to develop and ship console versions day-and-date with the first group.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-adventures-of-dash/">The Adventures of Dash</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-adventures-of-dash/#5682398"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/adscn002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-adventures-of-dash/#5682399"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/aodarcade_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-adventures-of-dash/#5682400"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/aodbedroom_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-adventures-of-dash/#5682401"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/aodbridge_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-adventures-of-dash/#5682402"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/aodbridgejump_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/robotokis-platformer-starring-a-narcoleptic-child-the-adventur/">Robotoki's platformer starring a narcoleptic child, The Adventures of Dash</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 04 Mar 2013 18:15:00 EST. Now, the couple is planning another game called <em>Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption</em>, and they've <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1878147873/hero-u-rogue-to-redemption">taken to Kickstarter</a> to try and raise $400,000 to make it.<br /><br />That's a tidy sum, but this is a substantial project: Not only are the Coles developing the title, but Australian game developer <a href="http://www.brawsome.com.au/blog/index.php/2012/09/19/quest-for-glory/">Brawsome is on board</a> as well, having recently released its own puzzle/RPG game, <a href="http://www.brawsome.com.au/macguffinscurse/"><em>MacGuffin's Curse</em></a>. <em>Hero-U</em> is set to play like a tactical, top-down RPG, but it is also supposed to include the charm, puzzles, and story that the Coles and their games are known for.<br /><br />If you're interested in contributing, the team is offering most of the usual Kickstarter bonuses, from a simple digital copy of the game and soundtrack, all the way up to the chance to get a personal <em>D&amp;D</em> adventure from the Coles, or to appear in or help out with <em>Hero-U</em>'s design yourself. The team's got about $290K left to earn and 26 days to get there, but given the pedigree of the folks behind this one we'd guess their chances are better than most.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/24/quest-for-glory-creators-join-with-brawsome-to-launch-kickstarte/">Quest for Glory creators join with Brawsome to launch Kickstarter for Hero-U</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Oct 2012 20:00:00 EST. Of the indie games on display, a 2D real-time strategy game called <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/cannon-brawl"><em>Cannon Brawl</em></a> was my favorite. <em>Cannon Brawl</em> (formerly called <em>Dstroyd</em>) is the product of four developers calling themselves Turtle Sandbox Games, and was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/27/dstroyd-and-rigonauts-broadside-win-activision-indie-compet/">a winner of the Activision Independent Games Competition last year</a>, picking up $175,000 and a chance to be published with Activision.<br /><br />The game looks very different from the last time we saw it - the graphics are much cleaner, the interface is simple and well-designed, and while the gameplay is fast and complicated <em>Cannon Brawl</em> does a great job of mixing quick moves with solid and interesting strategical choices. The game's not done yet, but it's coming together very well. Odds are that we'll be seeing this game a lot more in the future.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/06/cannon-brawl-brings-2d-rts-to-the-pax-10/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cannon Brawl brings 2D RTS to the PAX 10</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/06/cannon-brawl-brings-2d-rts-to-the-pax-10/">Cannon Brawl brings 2D RTS to the PAX 10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 23:59:00 EST. The game was previously seen on the 3DS eShop, and will arrive on the PC on August 30, with that introductory price lasting until September 5.<br /><br />On the 3DS, <em>Mutant Mudds</em> made copious use of the 3D screen to transfer its hero in between the various platform levels, but on the PC version, there's an elegant blur effect instead. The retro graphics and tunes are still there, however. You'll be able to grab the game directly from Renegade Kid, or on Good Old Games, Gamers Gate, or Desura at the end of the month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/mutant-mudds-coming-to-pc-on-august-30-starting-at-7-99/">Mutant Mudds coming to PC on August 30, starting at $7.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 Aug 2012 04:30:00 EST. Afraid that the jump-off-the-screen 3D effects promised by Nintendo's next handheld (code-named the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-3ds">3DS</a>) will become tiresome and overly gimmicky? Addressing concerns that there may be possible health consequences with 3D gaming, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata assured <a href="http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2010/05/07/technology-specialized-consumer-services-as-japan-nintendo_7585210.html">Forbes</a> that the 3D function can be turned off easily, allowing players to enjoy games in a more traditional 2D manner.<br />
<br />
While little else is known about the device, it seems like a smart move to ensure Nintendo's next system is attractive to as wide of an audience as possible. Of course, we may change our minds after its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/23/3ds-said-to-feature-3d-control-stick-sharp-lcd-screens-will-be/">E3 debut</a> -- perhaps the 3D effect will be so captivating that we'll be unable to think of gaming in any other way.<br />

We know some of you were unfathomably thrilled by the announcement of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-3"><em>Marvel vs. Capcom 3</em></a>, but the announcement was somewhat sullied for us by a secret, unfulfilled wish we'd kept tucked away in the deepest recesses of our heart. What if, instead of squaring off against a roster of superheroes from Marvel Comics, the Capcom combatants were forced to fight the original characters designed by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/05/left-4-dead-8-bit-now-available/"><em>Pixel Force</em> <em>Left 4 Dead</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/06/8-bit-left-4-dead-guys-latest-project-mega-man-9-hd-remix/"><em>Mega Man 9 HD Remix</em></a> creator <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/ericdavidruth/">Eric Ruth</a>?<br />
<br />
<em>Fine</em>, we didn't actually have that thought -- but after looking at the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s6G19-t-q8">first bit of gameplay footage</a> from <em>Capcom vs. Eric Ruth Games</em> (posted after the jump), we really wish we had. Sure, we might not know half of the game's cast of characters, but it looks like good old-fashioned 2D fighting fun. Also, it features an announcer who says, "Ladies and gentlemen, start your fist engines," and that's the greatest thing we've ever heard.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/the-fighting-game-you-really-care-about-capcom-vs-eric-ruth-ga/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The fighting game you really care about: Capcom vs. Eric Ruth Games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/21/the-fighting-game-you-really-care-about-capcom-vs-eric-ruth-ga/">The fighting game you really care about: Capcom vs. Eric Ruth Games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. A recent <a href="http://twitter.com/team17/status/9481400917">tweet from Team 17's</a> Martyn Brown has revealed that everyone's favorite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/worms">combative invertebrates</a> will soon star in a new 2D outing on Steam, titled <em>Worms Reloaded</em>. That's literally <em>all</em> we know about the game at the moment, though Brown's tweet promises more details soon. Until then, we're left to worry that it's going to be an all-annelid remake of <em>The Matrix: Reloaded</em>, which would be totally awesome, until, of course, the <em>big rave/orgy scene</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/23/new-2d-worms-game-squirming-its-way-to-steam/">New 2D Worms game squirming its way to Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Feb 2010 13:00:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/11/sega-counting-down-project-needlemouses-character-lineup/">predicted</a>, Sega's playful countdown of playable characters that are set to feature in the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/project-needlemouse">Project Needlemouse</a> has left only one anthropomorphic mascot standing: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sonic-the-hedgehog"><em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em></a>. It's sad to think that Sonic <em>starring</em> in a Sonic game can make the news, but that's the world we live in. <br />
<br />
It's a world you have to share with <a href="http://blogs.sega.com/usa/2010/01/15/project-needlemouse-character-countdown-finale-and-concept-art/">Sega blog</a> commenters like "ilcane87," who mildly castigated the publisher for turning a blind eye to <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/10/19/friday-video-people-love-ryan-drummond/">super fans</a>. "There's thousands and thousands of websites and message boards dedicated to single characters of the Sonic franchise out there," came the response, "and it's all those fans that you are going to alienate if you keep neglecting everyone besides Sonic himself, like you did in <em>Unleashed</em>." Not exactly Tikal'd pink, then.<br />
<br />
While ilcane87 may have lost "all interest for this game," we suspect some of you will be interested enough to view the piece of concept art posted after the break. Expect Sonic's solo return to 2D sometime in 2010.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/sonics-pals-rejected-from-project-needlemouse/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sonic's pals rejected from Project Needlemouse</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/15/sonics-pals-rejected-from-project-needlemouse/">Sonic's pals rejected from Project Needlemouse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 15 Jan 2010 17:15:00 EST. <em>Prinny 2: Dawn of the Great Pantsu War</em> will reportedly launch for the PSP on March 25, 2010 in Japan, according to <a href="http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/223/223679/index-5.html">Dengeki Online</a> (via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/12/24/help-find-etnas-pantsu-in-prinny-2/">Siliconera</a>). Sure, Nippon Ichi Software might not exactly want <em>us</em> to know that it's making a sequel to this year's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prinny">Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?</a></em>, but that doesn't stop the company from releasing a mess of screenshots and a release date to gamers across the Pacific, along with with the game's full title. <br />
<br />
As if the first game's premise of securing cakes for Etna wasn't ridiculous enough, the second game tasks you with recovering underpants for her (thus the title). To combat the various <em>adorable</em> enemies along the way (just look at that penguin!), the developer has added new moves as well as a "baby mode" for novices. We've added a handful of screenshots to our gallery below, but you can peep a metric ton more <a href="http://www.andriasang.com/e/galleries/2009/12/25/prinny/">right here</a>. <br />

We'll have to file this one under the "Games That We Wish Existed" category, as the screen you see above is little more than a pixelart mash-up of <em>Luigi's Mansion</em> and the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/castlevania">Castlevania</a></em> series. Masterfully created by Shane Gill for his <a href="http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/48366.htm#">PixelJoint page</a> (and spotted by the folks at <a href="http://tinycartridge.com/post/307394256/mansionvania-vacuum-of-sorrow-by-shane-gill-a">Tiny Cartridge</a>), the piece is the living embodiment of what we wish the DSiWare service played host to more often. <br />
<br />
Alas, we don't believe we'll be seeing "Mansionvania: Vacuum of Sorrow" landing on Nintendo's digital distribution service anytime soon -- but we can at least point to it next time someone asks what we'd like to see available for download. Arc System Works has built a legacy of fighting games with its <em>Guilty Gear </em>franchise. Recently, the company introduced a new fighting franchise in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blazblue"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, and even though it was very well-received -- it's almost at a 90 on <a href="http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=relevance&amp;termtype=all&amp;ts=blazblue&amp;ty=0&amp;button=search">Metacritic</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/review-blazblue-xbox-360-ps3/">we certainly enjoyed it</a> -- fight fans want to know when they'll get more <em>Guilty Gear</em>. Well, based on comments made by series producer/creator Daisuke Ishiwatari to <a href="http://www.nowgamer.com/news/2122/next-gen-guilty-gear-in-the-works">NowGamer</a>, an Xbox 360 and PS3 installment may already be under consideration.<br />
<br />
"I have the full intention to create <em>Guilty Gear</em> for PS3 and 360." Ishiwatari said. There was even some talk of a <em>BlazBlue</em>/<em>Guilty Gear</em> crossover, though Arc System Works business development director Tomo Ohno avoided any definitive commitments. "<em>BlazBlue</em> is a new thing, and there might be some crossover but at the moment we don't have any plans."<br />

Nintendo's new Q1 schedule gives a March 2010 date for the WiiWare run-and-gun -- just two months after Capcom starts releasing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/18/phoenix-wright-summoned-for-duty-on-wiiware-this-january/"><em>Phoenix Wright</em></a> ports. What a wonderful time to have an Internet-connected Wii and enjoy Capcom products. <br />
<br />
With the release so close, we expect more information to come out soon, starting with character art for all the bosses and the mysterious third character. Sure, Capcom's vertical-shootin', UFO-jackin', jetpack-flyin' third-person shooter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/dark-void">Dark Void</a></em> won't be landing on retail shelves until <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/dark-void-touching-down-january-12/">January 12</a>, but the developer wants you to spend some time with Will (and <em>The Void</em>) beforehand. If you head over to <a href="http://www.jetpackattack.com">JetpackAttack.com</a>, you can create and play levels in your browser of a significantly pared down <em>Dark Void</em> spinoff game, <em>Jetpack Attack</em>. <br />
<br />
After blasting our way through the first level, we didn't exactly find ourselves thirsting for more, though it did (no matter how small the scale) sate our urge for some jetpacking action. And hey, if worse comes to worse, you could always <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/01/dark-void-pre-order-bonus-a-gold-jetpack/">trade it in for gold</a>, right?<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> An SOE rep has confirmed to Joystiq that more details on the game will be released next Monday. Hold tight!<br /> <br /> If it weren't strange enough that Sony Online Entertainment is listed as the publisher for <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=28108">recently ESRB rated</a> PlayStation 3 side-scrolling brawler <em>Revenge of the Wounded Dragons</em>, we find it all the stranger that a <a href="http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&amp;state=4001:hh1s2e.2.1">trademark filing</a> from last September puts <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wet"><em>Wet</em></a> developer A2M in the developer's seat. The game's description, aside from pinning it as a PS3 exclusive, tells us that it's a "2D fighting game" where players will "frequently punch, kick, and throw enemies as they 'side-scroll' forward through the platform city environments." <br /> <br /> We put our top men on deciphering this rating-wary, encrypted message, and they have surmised that the title will likely be some form of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/double-dragon"><em>Double Dragon</em></a> clone. Reading further into the description, we see that the game follows "two brothers attempting to avenge their grandfather's death and rescue their sister from the local mafia boss." A 2D, sidescrolling brawler that follows the tale of two brothers out for revenge? You don't say! We contacted both A2M and Sony Online Entertainment for comment, but have yet to hear back.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=28108">Source 1</a> - ESRB<br /> <a href="http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&amp;state=4001:hh1s2e.2.1">Source 2</a> - USPTO<hr width="100%" size="2" /> <small><em><img width="40" vspace="0" hspace="8" height="40" border="0" align="left" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/playstation.joystiq.com/media/2008/11/bbc-trop000.png" style="padding-right: 5px;" alt="" /></em></small><em><small><em>Congratulations to <strong>osuiscoolteam2008</strong> on being the first to comment. <em>Canabalt</em> is a 2D side-scroller where you control a gentleman continuously running across rooftops and cranes, gradually building up speed while avoiding various objects which will either slow down or kill him. Rather than "score" or "points," developer Semi Secret Software measures your success by the distance you manage to cross, even allowing for instant bragging via Twitter in-game. It's a simple premise with a surprising amount of depth.<br /> <br /> And it's exactly the kind of game I want to pick up and play on my iPhone. <em>Canabalt</em> is perfect for the device: the gameplay comes in short, addictive bursts, it loads up quickly, and it employs the touchscreen in an intuitive way. Though a vast wealth of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/21/iphone-it-in-drop7/">quick</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/17/iphone-it-in-rope-n-fly/">addictive games</a> now reside on my phone, I find myself constantly returning to <span style="font-style: italic;">Canabalt</span>'s rooftops and blaring techno music whenever I have a spare moment.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/canabalt-iphone/">Canabalt (iPhone)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/canabalt-iphone/#2439970"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img_0537_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/canabalt-iphone/#2439976"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img_0538_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/canabalt-iphone/#2439977"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img_0539_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/canabalt-iphone/#2439974"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img_0540_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/canabalt-iphone/#2439972"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/11/img_0543_thumbnail.png" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/iphone-it-in-canabalt/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPhone It In: Canabalt</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/11/iphone-it-in-canabalt/">iPhone It In: Canabalt</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 08:00:00 EST. The classic shoot 'em up platformer <em>Toki</em> is getting the HD treatment, with an upcoming <em>enhanced</em> version from French developer <a href="http://golgothstudio.com/devblog/">Golgoth Studio</a>. The studio -- which currently consists of six members -- intends on bringing the adventure back to life in with a "full 2D remixed version" based on the 1989 arcade original. In <em>Toki HD</em>, players must rescue his princess Miho from the evil sorcerer Vokimeldo, and reclaim his human form.<br /><br /><em>Toki HD</em> producer Anthony De Sa Ferreira told Joystiq via email that -- while the game has no official platform as of yet -- the game has been submitted for approval for Games for Windows Live and Xbox Live Arcade. If its goal of resurrecting a classic arcade title isn't enough to get you on its side, Golgoth's motto of "2D refuses to die" might rope you in. Way to tug at our nostalgic heartstrings, guys. Check out the first gameplay footage of <em>Toki HD </em>after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2009/10/golgoth_reveals_beautiful_toki.php">GameSetWatch</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/french-dev-bringing-toki-back-with-hd-remake/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>French dev bringing Toki back with HD remake</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/22/french-dev-bringing-toki-back-with-hd-remake/">French dev bringing Toki back with HD remake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 03:00:00 EST. If <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a> were made 10 years ago and lacked all those bulging 3D muscles and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/chun-lis-massive-hands-cause-for-concern-in-street-fighter-iv/">gorilla hands</a>, it might look something like the images you see above. Shoryuken forum member <a href="http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=6904023">Steamboy33</a> took it upon himself to draw up <em>Street Fighter 3</em>-esque versions of 11 different characters from <em>SFIV</em>, reappropriating sprites from previous <em>SF</em> games as a template. <br />
<br />
The adorable stature of these sprites <em>almost</em> has us wishing for a <em>Smash Bros</em>. meets mini-Capcom game, but let's be realistic -- no one wants to fight Seth ever again. Ever.<br />

<em>Fall Over</em> is a gentleman's platformer, with a twist. Combining a familiar-looking 2D landscape and real-life physics, indie developer Arvi "<a href="http://hempuli.com/">Hempuli</a>" Teikari has put just enough spin on the genre to combat our rampant attention-deficit disorder.<br /> <br /> <em>Fall Over</em> is a simple concept; as a fancy-suited gentleman, reach the end of the level with as many coins in your pocket as possible. The challenge is working with the game's real-world physics, including the little things we take for granted -- like accidentally knocking your character on his back after hitting his head on a platform above -- and keeping your coins safely tucked away. It's the engine that would make Mario scream, and it's a <a href="http://hempuli.com/FO/">free game worth a few minutes</a> of your time. Make sure to grab your top hat and monocle before checking it out.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/08/03/a-gentleman-does-not-fall-over/">BigDownload</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/fall-over-a-platformer-for-gentlemen/">Fall Over: A platformer for gentlemen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 20:00:00 EST. Vanillaware founder and president <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/09/interview-vanillawares-jouji-kamitani-on-muramasa/">George Kamitani</a> told <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/4097/king_of_2d_vanillawares_george_.php">Gamasutra</a> that he thinks so. "Well, the original art we draw is all done in double-size -- in the case of <em>Muramasa</em>, the animation frames then get compressed down to the Wii's native resolution," he told Gamasutra. "As a result, producing a fully HD title would not be a great deal of extra work for us; it would just mean our original art is displayed in higher resolution." This is very similar to what WayForward's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/interview-wayforwards-voldi-way-talks-blobs-shantae-and-stre/">Voldi Way</a> told us about 2D development in HD.<br /><br />Despite the relative ease of transitioning to HD, Kamitani said there was no plan to re-release <em>Muramasa</em> as an XBLA game (or to re-release it anywhere else), but that the company is "in the experimental stage" of high-definition development.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/vanillaware-hd-muramasa-wouldnt-be-a-great-deal-of-extra-work/">Vanillaware: HD Muramasa wouldn't be 'a great deal of extra work'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 18:00:00 EST. <strong>Update: </strong>Capcom sent out a release the following day, redacting the mention of online play and five new characters. Did someone at Capcom jump the gun?<br /><br />The release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs Capcom</em></a> in North America will change a bit from its Japanese counterpart, Capcom has announced. The North American release eliminates one character from the Tatsunoko side of the roster and adds five new fighters not found in the original game. Not only that, but the North American version of the game will also have online play, a feature the original Japanese release cannot boast.<br /><br />[Thanks, WiiNinja!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/02/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-gets-online-play-5-new-characters-for-north/">Tatsunoko vs Capcom gets online play, 5 new characters for North America [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Jun 2009 21:30:00 EST. You remember <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bobs-game/"><em>Bob's Game</em></a>, don't you? The humble 2D RPG made by a single, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/10/bobs-game-100-day-sit-in-protest-ends-early-disturbingly/">possibly loony</a>, individual? Well nearly two months have gone by since the game's creator <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/nintendo-denies-official-ds-developer-status-to-bobs-game-cre/">Robert Pelloni was denied developer status</a> by Nintendo and -- other than a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/01/jilted-bobs-game-creator-fights-back-by-littering/">NYC littering spree</a> -- we've heard little about the game as of late. In an interview with Nintendo big boss Reggie Fils-Aime on <a href="http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/04/02/nintendo-finally-comments-on-bobs-game/">MTV Multiplayer</a> last week, however, the record was set considerably straighter.<br /><br />When asked for his side of the story on what had come to pass, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Reggie/">the Regginator</a> had this to say: "He did submit to be a licensed developer. We have an evaluation process. We evaluated the opportunity. We decided at this point in time that he did not meet the requirements to be a licensed developer." Well that about does it then, no? Apparently MTV wanted more from the conversation, pushing the CEO on what to do if a developer wants to work with Nintendo but doesn't necessarily have two or three major games under its belt, "My hope is that any developer who has a compelling idea will reach out to our licensing organization and share their idea and go through the process of becoming a licensed developer for the Nintendo platform," Fils-Aime said, "And we have a legacy of supporting that type of development." <br /><br />Unfortunately, as it seems, Mr. Pelloni's game wasn't quite "compelling" enough of an idea.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/04/reggie-on-bobs-game-refused-license-doesnt-reflect-on-nintend/">Reggie on Bob's Game: Refused license doesn't reflect on Nintendo's support for the little guy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Apr 2009 11:00:00 EST. With its global online support, we expected that Arc System Works' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/05/blazblue-throws-a-beatdown-on-ps3-xbox-360/">console port of arcade brawler <em>BlazBlue</em></a> would eventually be released outside of Japan. Now niche publisher Aksys has <a href="http://www.aksysgames.com/2009/03/04/blazblue-announced-for-north-america-bs/">quietly revealed plans</a> to bring the elegant 2D fighter to North America for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. <br />
<br />
Like their counterparts in Japan, fighting game fans in North America can look forward to mastering super moves and combos this summer, as players beat the heat by staying indoors away from bears and tiresome physical activity. With <em>King of Fighters XII</em> slated for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/king-of-fighters-xii-hits-ps3-360-worldwide-this-july/">a July release</a> as well, the only question we're left with is: How will our hands survive?<br />
<br />

Arc System Works, the folks behind popular 2D fighting franchise <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guilty-gear"><em>Guilty Gear</em></a>, are planning on bringing their high-def 2D fighter, <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/02/16/a-plethora-of-blazblue-stuff-just-for-you/"><em>BlazBlue</em></a>, to the Xbox 360 and PS3 <a href="http://ps3.ign.com/articles/959/959132p1.html">IGN reports</a>. Currently only available in Japanese arcades, the title is being ported to home consoles in the region, with release aimed at this summer. <br />
<br />
Notable additions to the console port include a story mode, with individual stories for each character available. This story mode will offer branching storylines based on the battles you win, as well as the choices you make while playing. Director Toshimichi Mori says the story mode easily offers 30 hours of gameplay.<br />
<br />
On top of that, gamers can look forward to online support for battling folks around the globe, as well as DLC, which Arc has planned, yet no specific items were mentioned. The console version of the game will also provide all characters with Astral Heat special moves, which were only given to a select few boss characters in the arcade version of the game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/05/blazblue-throws-a-beatdown-on-ps3-xbox-360/">BlazBlue throws a beatdown on PS3, Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Mar 2009 14:27:00 EST. For our PC brethren that have been watching <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/23/street-fighter-iv-ships-two-million-units-worldwide/">2 million console gamers</a> with envious eyes, know that your time will come, uh, <em>months from now</em>, as Capcom has dropped word that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/joystiq-review-street-fighter-iv/">Street Fighter IV</a> </em>could be arriving on the PC as soon as this summer. Capcom vice president of business development, Christian Svensson, even says that Capcom has been in talks with Mad Catz to bundle <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/mad-catz-well-under-50-complaints-about-fightsticks/">one of those <em>SFIV</em> fight sticks</a> with the game. "I'm in talks with Mad Catz to figure out how can we actually do some bundles of pads and Street Fighter IV PC," said Christian. <br /><br />However, a release date of "this summer" isn't even set in stone for the game. When asked about the PC version's release, Christian merely responded by saying, "Let's say summer." We have a feeling a lot of PC gamers have some choice words for Christian, but we remember what our teachers told us about <em>assuming</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/">Street Fighter IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337097"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/guile_006-252009-37_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337096"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/dan_004-252009-26_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337095"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/cviper_001-252009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337094"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/balrog_005-252009-49_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-1/#1337093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/seth_004-252009-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/27/sfiv-tiger-uppercuts-pc-this-summer-may-include-mad-catz-fighti/">SFIV Tiger Uppercuts PC this summer, may include Mad Catz fighting stick</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 27 Feb 2009 15:02:00 EST. In 10 days, the U.S. will receive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/street-fighter-iv"><em>Street Fighter IV</em></a>. It's a game that needs no prefacing of any kind. We just thought that you might want to take a break with us and watch the <em>completely awesome</em> Japanese opening cinematic. Seriously, if you watch one video today, this should be it. It's <em>way better</em> than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/21/new-street-fighter-iv-trailer-looks-awesome-sounds-not-awesome/">the last trailer we showed</a> you. Akuma <em>totally fights </em>Gouken. You can find the video past the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-character-roster/">Street Fighter IV: Character Roster</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-character-roster/#1235998"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/sfiv.abel_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Abel" title="Abel" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-character-roster/#1236000"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/sfiv.akuma_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Akuma" title="Akuma" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-character-roster/#1235999"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/sfiv.balrog_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Balrog" title="Balrog" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-character-roster/#1236001"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/sfiv.blanka_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Blanka" title="Blanka" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/street-fighter-iv-character-roster/#1236002"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/12/sfiv.cammy_thumbnail.jpg" alt="Cammy" title="Cammy" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/07/watch-the-street-fighter-iv-opening-cinema/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Watch the Street Fighter IV opening cinema</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/07/watch-the-street-fighter-iv-opening-cinema/">Watch the Street Fighter IV opening cinema</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 07 Feb 2009 21:00:00 EST. Word on the street is that the highly stylish and, well, one of our most-watched games, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/muramasa-the-demon-blade"><em>Muramasa: The Demon Blade</em></a>, will hit Japanese retail in April of this year. We've got no firm date yet, however an April release in Japan means that we could be seeing it localized in North America this holiday season. It is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/23/muramasa-slicing-up-europe-in-november-2009/">coming to Europe in November</a>, after all (not taking into account <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/xseed-drawing-muramasa-the-demon-blade-this-summer/">summer placeholders</a>).<br /><br />It's a long wait, but one we'll gladly suffer for what we're sure is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/09/tgs08-muramasa-gameplay-footage-will-change-you/">going to be a wonderful game</a>.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/muramasa-the-demon-blade-cuts-down-japan-this-april/">Muramasa: The Demon Blade cuts down Japan this April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Jan 2009 19:09:00 EST. As you can see in the image to the right, the cabinet is set to play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs. Capcom</em></a> (running off a Wii), which is one of the games we'd most like to import <strike>but it costs like a bajillion dollars so we can't</strike>. Apparently, these cabinets are just sitting in somebody's kitchen, in Brooklyn. Uh, what does a blog need to do to get an invite? We're already making you famous to our 32 readers with this post. Hook a blog up, already! We totally own <em>a car</em>.<br /><br />In all seriousness, though, we're really jealous of how awesome that kitchen is. <br /><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14262145&amp;postcount=3886">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/06/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-arcade-cabinet-of-heroes/">Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Arcade Cabinet of Heroes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 18:30:00 EST. If you're like us, you won't let a little thing like a language barrier stop you from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/09/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-available-to-importers-early/">importing what is sure to be the fighting game of the year</a>. So, instead of trying to navigate the abundance of Japanese text and all of the menus, or simply just trying different moves with each character in-game, you can simply print out these handy little cards with each character's moves listed on them, allowing you to safely try out each fighter and avoid the frustration of just winging it with each individual in the game. It's a pretty great resource with a lot of info condensed into one place. If you plan on importing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs Capcom</em></a>, then you should definitely check this out.<br /><br />
<br /><br /><a href="http://www.capcom.co.jp/tatsucap/images/commandPOP.zip">Source</a> - Move list sheets (zip file)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/11/tatsunoko-vs-capcom-site-offers-resource-for-importers/">Tatsunoko vs Capcom site offers resource for importers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Dec 2008 13:00:00 EST. When it was announced that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/19/marvelous-oboro-muramasa-youtouden-announced-for-us/"><em>Oboro Muramasa Youtouden</em></a> was headed to North America (under the name<em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/muramasa-the-demon-blade/">Muramasa: Demon Blade</a>)</em>, we got all kinds of excited. Not only does the game have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/muramasa-the-awesome-screens/">a wonderful style all its own</a>, it also looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/wii-fanboy-review-wario-land-shake-it/">a great 2D experience</a> in a world crowded with 3D games. During a recent interview with 1UP, the game's director Jyouji Kamitani answered questions dealing with the origins of the game, the motion controls players can expect and the playable build that will be available during the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tgs08">Tokyo Game Show</a>.<br /><br />Hit up <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3170405">this link</a> to read the full interview.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/director-talks-up-muramasa-demon-blade/">Director talks up Muramasa: Demon Blade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 18:16:00 EST. <p>Dave Perry has been feeling a twinge of seller's remorse since washing his hands of former platforming icon, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/earthworm-jim"><em>Earthworm Jim</em></a>. More than that, actually, as the Shiny Entertainment founder admits in a recent interview that, in hindsight, selling off the rights to annelid-made-superhero was probably the "dumbest move ever." <br /><br />The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/dave-perry-gamers-ignore-wiis-sloppy-controls/">outspoken Wii detractor</a> lays the blame for the miscue largely on the industry's transition away from 2D and into the third dimension in the 90s, his animators at the time unwilling to lay down their pencils in favor of the almighty polygon. Of course, the team eventually went on to create the fabulously tongue-in-cheek action epic, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mdk"><em>MDK</em></a>. Now, like Perry, we're left to sit and wonder what might have been as we wait for Interplay to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/earthworm-jim-begins-long-crawl-back-to-relevance/">push Jim up from the soil</a> once more. <br /></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/dave-perry-selling-earthworm-jim-was-the-dumbest-move-ever/">Dave Perry: Selling Earthworm Jim was the 'dumbest move ever'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 14:25:00 EST. Arguably the two most eagerly awaited Wii games of September have something slightly unusual and wholly awesome in common: they're both 2D. <em>Mega Man 9</em> and <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> have each been widely lauded for daring to ignore the third dimension, but they're still quite different in terms of <em>how</em> they use 2D.<em><br /><br />Mega Man 9</em> rejects all modern graphical conventions, taking the player through a timewarp to 1988 with its intentionally blocky, charming sprites. Conversely, <em>Wario Land: Shake It!</em> is straight from the <em>Metal Slug</em> school of design, in that it uses painstakingly detailed, beautiful hand-drawn art. Which do the Wii Fanboy staff prefer? Read on to hear both sides of the argument!<br /><br />

Following Plug Man's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/mega-man-9s-newest-boss-plug-man/">unveiling</a> yesterday, GamesRadar has media and details on one of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mega-man-9"><em>Mega Man 9</em></a>'s more <em>historic</em> Robot Masters. Splash Woman is the first ever female boss in the series, and grants Mega Man the fantastic-looking Laser Trident when defeated, a weapon that can pass through walls and damage otherwise invincible objects and areas.<br /><br />The actual fight looks excellent, as well: after completing Splash Woman's mostly underwater level, Mega Man has to dodge her trident shots, as she warbles her siren song, calling on her ferocious fishy friends to attack you. It's sort of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-9-2/1043835/">cute</a>. Head to our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/mega-man-9-2/1043862/">gallery</a> for new screens and sprites of both her and Plug Man.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/18/splash-woman-is-doing-it-for-the-girls/">Splash Woman is doing it for the girls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Sep 2008 14:32:00 EST.
