BioShock franchise has 'potential' for five sequels

Talking with MCV, 2K Games global prez Christoph Hartmann admits that the BioShock franchise could churn out five total sequels in its life, but promises that 2K won't just "cash in" on the title.

Talking about the potential for future sequels, Hartmann says that "if we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did." Something that Star Wars did do, but video games are a bit different and as much as Hartmann wants to compare BioShock to Star Wars, it's clear to us that BioShock is its own beast. Just be careful 2K. Just be careful.

Joystiq hands-on: BioShock PS3 'Worlds of Hurt' DLC

Just didn't find BioShock PS3's Survivor difficulty, well, masochistic enough? Then you'll want to give the game's DLCcoming to PSN on Nov. 20 – a spin, if only for the utterly insane "Worlds of Hurt" challenge room. We had a chance to brave it ourselves and found that we needed every ounce of courage and knowledge of Rapture's workings to make it through even a bit.

The scenario has you battling through several rooms of increasing difficulty with the ultimate goal of freeing a Little Sister. It starts off with a single Splicer but soon tests every strategy-forming inch of your grey matter.

Get your first glimpse of MLB Superstars

2K Sports just dished out a new trailer for their upcoming game, MLB Superstars, and it's pretty much like the other updates we've had on the game. Instead of looking at ridiculous screens, you get to look at ridiculous screens in motion. This trailer focuses on the 'Whack a Wall' minigame.

What do you all think? Still just a bunch of minigames thrown together, or do you see something you like here?

Upcoming BioShock patch will fix graphical issues

Some of you who've played the BioShock demo may have noticed a number of minor graphical differences between the PS3 and 360 versions. A 2K community manager by the name of 2K Elizabeth made a post on their forums about an upcoming patch that will fix some of those problems, specifically:
  • Fix for an issue where large blocky pixels would show up whenever viewing the Bouncer and Elite Bouncer variants of the Big Daddy.
  • Fix for an issue where white/discolored bars would show up at the right and bottom sides of the screen during the plane crash / water scene at the beginning of the game.
There are other problems fixed, but the full patch list will be unveiled at a later time. The patch itself will be released some time after the game's launch, but no specific date has been announced.

MLB Stickball hits XBLA this week

Well this one came right out of left field. After two weeks of big name games hitting Xbox Live Arcade, we are greeted this Wednesday with MLB Stickball from 2K Sports. We know next to nothing about the title, though a pair of screenshots reveal what looks like stickball featuring super-deformed versions of familiar players from Major League Baseball. Gamescore Blog also notes that players can unlock baseball cards and earn extra points for hitting certain objects. So, breaking a window will earn points then? Count us in.

MLB Stickball will be available this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points.

MLB Superstars pitches us some new screens

If you're asking yourself why we're continuing to cover this game, know that it's sort of turned into a sick obsession for us. Taking widely recognized baseball players and making their likenesses compete in minigames that are anything but their sport of choice is like taking a gardener and asking him to build a rocket and land on the moon. It's just plain silly.

But, then there are small, tiny rays of hope that manage to break through the thick protection of cash-in that is the outer crust of MLB Superstars. That ray of hope? The Philly Phanatic. It can't be all* bad now, can it?

*Yes, it can. And probably will be.

MLB Superstars introduces us to Baseball Golf

2K Sports has dished out a few more screens from their upcoming game, MLB Superstars. In these latest shots, we see some of the titular superstars tackle one of the game's hybrid minigames, Baseball Golf. We're not sure how it works, beyond what is shown in the screens. The real question is whether or not these new screens make the game look more appealing than the previous batch?

MLB Stickball headed to XBLA, stick not included

2K Sports just announced that they'll be testing the Xbox Live Arcade waters with their first ever Arcade release, MLB Stickball. Yes sir, it's baseball, with a stick, hitting balls.

According to the 2K folks, MLB Stickball will release to the XBLA on Wednesday, October 8th where players will be able to collect Topps cards, build teams, create custom rules and play ... well, stickball. Pretty easy enough explanation, just don't break a window when swinging, because that's considered an insta-out. Bummer too ... we're usually pretty good at breaking our neighbor's windows.

Video: BioShock 360 vs. BioShock PS3 look similar

Seeing that it has been quite a while since we've posted one of these little gems, here, for your viewing pleasure, is a video comparing the look of BioShock on the Xbox 360 versus BioShock on the Playstation 3. Press play, watch, analyze and we'll wait ...

Okay, by now your video watching should be complete, (achievement unlocked audio sample goes here) and hopefully you noticed that the games are nearly identical. How fun! You should have also realized that you wasted a good three minutes of your day squinting at your computer screen trying your damnedest to spot a pixel differences between the two. Don't feel bad though, because we did the same. It's just something that's in our fanboy genes that makes us do it.

2K Sports reveals MLB Superstars

With October right around the corner, everyone's got baseball fever. We must admit that we're even caught up in it a bit, cheering our favorite team onto victory. And 2K Sports is trying to capitalize on the madness by unveiling their newest baseball title for the Wii: MLB Superstars.

MLB Superstars is being developed by Deep Fried Entertainment and will be a party title (see: minigames), featuring games such as Baseball Golf, Baseball Pachinko and Baseball Bocci. It will also feature minigames that aren't even in the realm of baseball, such as Mascot Dance (you can probably imagine what this is) and Green Monster, where players must break down a wall with a baseball bat.

Carnival Games 2 delayed due to first game's success

We like to bash the shovelware as much as anyone, but Take Two's Carnival Games must have been a real gem, because it has sold well consistently and "exceeded expectations" since its release. That's why Take Two has been taking their good old time in churning out a sequel to the game, which is now in the works.

"We saw the original title was a big success, and we had the developers [Cat Daddy] thinking down the line for the brand," said 2K Play marketing director Christina Recchio. "So there will be a 'Carnival Games 2,' but when that is, I can't say that right now. We just have to assess the market and see when the right time is to release the title." What does this mean? Well, that they won't need to rush development on the sequel so long as the first title keeps on selling.

Any of you play the original Carnival Games? Think it got a bad rap from the critics? Or was it just a bad game?

2K Games, would you kindly release BioShock PS3 on October 21?

Well, that was easy. 2K Games has complied with our subliminal request that it release the PlayStation 3 version of sublime, submerged shooter BioShock in North America on October 21. There was some mental resistance to our suggestions of a worldwide release, however, so you international folks will just have to make do with October 24.

BioShock comes to the PlayStation 3 sporting the same aquatic utopia-turned-dystopia that made the game one of 2007's best, along with Trophies, a new "Survivor" difficulty level and challenge rooms, to be released as downloadable content "shortly after launch."

Reminder: We're giving away Top Spin 3

Hey, you there. Yeah, you reading this. Do you like free stuff? We're giving away two copies of Top Spin 3, so head on over to the original contest post and read up on how you can enter. Good luck!
