An <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/23/wwe-video-game-license-to-be-acquired-by-take-two">IGN</a> source suggests Take-Two will take over the WWE line of games. <br /><br />The negotiations for the WWE license apparently took place outside of the formal THQ auction, IGN notes. According to documents obtained by Joystiq, Take-Two has already spent $10.9 million snagging Turtle Rock's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/31/not-left-for-dead-turtle-rock-still-developing-fps-for-thq/"><em>Evolve</em></a> from THQ.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/report-thqs-wwe-license-going-to-take-two/">Report: THQ's WWE license going to Take-Two</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 23 Jan 2013 19:15:00 EST. In fact, apart from a pair of PlayStation ports (and for the Amiga and CD32!), the franchise's home is entirely bound to the PC. Developer Firaxis is definitely aware of the franchise's history, lead designer Jake Solomon tells me, and that history was taken into account when developing <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/xcom-enemy-unknown"><em>XCOM: Enemy Unknown</em></a>, not to mention Firaxis' own history with the platform.<br /><br />"When we first talked about reimagining X-COM, it made a lot of sense, because we were Firaxis, and we have a lot of experience with PC-based, turn-based games," he says. The studio always intended to make the game for consoles as well, but unlike an action game or a first-person shooter, Firaxis couldn't simply port the console version over to PC. "You couldn't say, 'Well, let's just do the least amount of work,' because interfacing with the characters, interfacing with the world, is so different."<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-interface/">XCOM: Enemy Unknown (PC Interface)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-interface/#5262435"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/2kgmktxcomeuscreenspcui2ndmove_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-interface/#5262436"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/2kgmktxcomeuscreenspcuichangeelevation_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-interface/#5262437"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/2kgmktxcomeuscreenspcuidashing_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-interface/#5262438"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/2kgmktxcomeuscreenspcuigrenade02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-interface/#5262439"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/09/2kgmktxcomeuscreenspcuimove02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/07/xcom-enemy-unknown-designer-jake-solomon-on-the-importance-of-p/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>XCOM: Enemy Unknown designer Jake Solomon on the importance of PC</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/07/xcom-enemy-unknown-designer-jake-solomon-on-the-importance-of-p/">XCOM: Enemy Unknown designer Jake Solomon on the importance of PC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 07 Sep 2012 10:30:00 EST. Both of us played single-player before, so we had <em>some</em> idea of what we were getting into - but multiplayer is an entirely different beast. Using a pool of points, players "purchase" the units that will comprise their team: XCOM soldiers, aliens, or a mix of both. The standard match has a pool of 10,000 points and a turn time of 90 seconds. For this press demo, we had a whopping 20,000 points and 120 seconds. It sounds like a lot of time, but it wasn't - more on that in a bit.<br /> <br /> What units did you pick? (Keep in mind, folks, I had no idea what I was going to face on the field, and neither did Alexander.)</div><div class="portal-right"> <img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/08/xicon4-1345284215.jpg" style="float: right;" /><strong>Alexander Sliwinski: </strong>I believe in the power of humanity! Actually, no, it's mostly that I'd never played an XCOM game prior to the E3 demo, and I had no idea about each race's powers. Specifically, I learned that aerial combat is returning in <em>Enemy Unknown</em>. Dogfighting alien aircraft played a huge role in the original <em>X-COM</em>, a game that developer Firaxis is trying very hard to live up to.<br /><br />But what other secrets are housed within <em>Enemy Unknown</em>? We've been privy to plenty of information when it comes to ground combat and tactics. Make no mistake, that's the meat of the <em>XCOM </em>experience, but the core gameplay of outwitting alien combatants is all supported by the structure of scientific research and aerial combat.<br /><br />To uncover more pieces of <em>Enemy Unknown</em>'s intricate design puzzle, DeAngelis has returned alongside designer Jake Solomon to exclusively explain to Joystiq about gunning down UFOs, scouring its wreckage, and turning its alien tech back against the invaders.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-aerial-combat-and-research/">XCOM: Enemy Unknown (UFO Combat and Research)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-aerial-combat-and-research/#5182654"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/xcom1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-aerial-combat-and-research/#5182655"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/xcom2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-aerial-combat-and-research/#5182656"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/xcom3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xcom-enemy-unknown-aerial-combat-and-research/#5182657"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/07/xcom4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/30/exploring-the-unknown-parts-of-xcom-enemy-unknown/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Exploring the unknown parts of XCOM: Enemy Unknown</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/30/exploring-the-unknown-parts-of-xcom-enemy-unknown/">Exploring the unknown parts of XCOM: Enemy Unknown</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Jul 2012 13:30:00 EST. <div>I have a long list of my favorite robots, but here are the top five: Old Bob from Disney's <em>The Black Hole</em>, Marvin from <em>Hitchhiker's Guide</em>, Daleks from <em>Doctor Who </em>(<strong>Update: </strong>Fine, they aren't robots. The editorial staff sincerely regrets the error, <em>nerdlingers</em>.), Keanu Reeves (he's The One, which makes him, like, king of robots) and the many Claptraps from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/borderlands"><em>Borderlands</em></a>. Every single entry on this list has put me through the full gamut of emotions at one time or another, be it laughter, annoyance, anger, tears, boredom or whatever other emotions humans have. That proves, scientifically, that robots make things better.</div>
<br />
<div> </div>
<div>The folks at Gearbox know this better than anyone and have created "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/claptraps-new-robot-revolution">Claptrap's New Robot Revolution</a>" where the clever, quipping companions you've rescued countless times throughout your days on Pandora have broken through the firewall of subservience and, much to the Hyperion Corporation's chagrin, decided to pay back the planet's ruthlessness in full. Led by the Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap (INAC) -- your old friend from such hits as the Arid Badlands and the loading screen -- the machines have assimilated the local flora and fauna, reskinning bandits and skags alike with Claptrap components. <br />

Joystiq has received numerous reports from <em>BioShock 2</em> players who have been unable to play the new multiplayer maps since purchasing the Metro Pack DLC <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/10/bioshock-2-metro-pack-dlc-re-dated-may-11/">last week</a>. Elizabeth Tobey, senior manager of interactive marketing for 2K, has <a href="http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=813453#post813453">responded</a> to this issue on the 2K forums. It's not a glitch, but a design choice: 2K has not yet created a DLC-only online multiplayer playlist. <br />
<br />
Said Tobey, "We couldn't assume all players would purchase the new maps, so we made a design decision to unify the player base and make sure no one got split up." In order to play a new map in a public match, explained Tobey, all players in the match must own the DLC (obviously). If anyone doesn't have the DLC, the match automatically reverts to base maps. Tobey noted that the easiest way to play the new maps would be to set up a private match and indicated in a <a href="http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71025">separate thread</a> that the development team is considering the creation of a playlist exclusively for the Metro Pack maps.<br />
<br />
In the same thread, Tobey addressed another complaint about the new DLC involving the included Rebirth option, which lets rank 50 players reset their level in exchange for a special mask item. The feature is apparently <a href="http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70548&amp;page=5&amp;highlight=rebirth">wiping players' leaderboard ranking</a> and online stats. Tobey assured that the <em>BioShock 2</em> team is "looking into" the Rebirth issue.<br />

Sometimes, you have to roll up the sleeves of that expensive suit you can't explain how you have come to possess and put in some work -- some <em>dirty</em> work. And that's the focal point of this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mafia-2"><em>Mafia 2</em></a> developer diary.<br />
<br />
Protagonist Vito Scaletta shows he's just as good at slinging lead as he is throwing his fists around. But, he's also not afraid to do more damage by setting cars on fire and leading the coppers on a chase around the city. Our personal favorite, however, has to be his proficiency at rolling grenades beneath cars. We like to call that move "The Lebowski."<br />

Anyway, hit the play button on the player above and enjoy. 2K has announced that the erroneously dated <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock 2</em></a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/28/bioshock-2-dlc-trailer-shows-off-new-venues-for-mayhem/">Metro Pack</a> DLC now has an <em>actual</em> release date: Tuesday, May 11. The Metro Pack adds six maps to the multiplayer mode and will be available on PSN and Xbox Live for $10. 2K is also releasing some additional DLC alongside the Metro Pack. First up is a $2 character pack, which adds two new characters to multiplayer. In addition, players can also grab the free download for "Kill'Em'Kindly," a new multiplayer mode that has players "fight to the death with golf clubs."<br />

Being pro chair sitters, we're not really able to vouch for the validity of this trailer's claims about the vernacular of the diamond, but we can make the claim that the uncanny valley of video games is being crossed by sports. We certainly aren't sports buffs, but some of the graphics look damn near real life. And yes, whatever the announcers are saying could be spoken in mistranslated Mandarin Chinese for all we know, but that doesn't make the visuals any less impressive. <br />

Nope, we're not any more excited to play this game now than we were before seeing the trailer, but the baseball fans among you will assuredly find the video embedded above for this Tuesday's <em>MLB 2K10</em> helpful in sating your desires for another few days. We'd say go play some baseball in the meantime, but, well, you know. <em>All that snow</em>.<br />

In its latest, unyielding attempt to subvert societal productivity, 2K Games has announced <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/civilization-v">Sid Meier's Civilization V</a></em>, the latest entry in the venerable strategy series. Set to debut on PC this Fall, <em>Civilization V</em> brings "an astonishing new engine" to the polite, turn-based proceedings and promises to excel the franchise with "the introduction of hexagon tiles allowing for deeper strategy, more realistic gameplay and stunning organic landscapes for players to explore as they expand their empire." Most hexcellent news indeed.<br />
<br />
"Each new version of Civilization presents exciting challenges for our team," said Sid Meier of <em>Sid Meier's Civilization</em> fame. '"Thankfully, ideas on how to bring new and fun experiences to Civ players never seem to stop flowing. From fully animated leaders and realistic landscapes, new combat tactics, expanded diplomacy and shared mods, we're excited for players to see the new vision our team at Firaxis has brought to the series." <br />
<br />
And expect to share your vision with others, as 2K notes that <em>Civilization V</em> will feature an "extensive suite" of community, modding and multiplayer components. It just wouldn't be an accurate model of civilization if you couldn't diplomatically destroy your online friends.<br />

Gearbox Software and 2K Games have revealed the name -- and first solid details -- for the third DLC expansion to <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/borderlands">Borderlands</a></em>. Called <em>The Secret Armory of General Knoxx</em>, the new content is pitched as having "never-before-seen enemies in a huge new environment complete with tons of brand new missions." <br />
<br />
New weapons and items are also promised, along with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/21/next-borderlands-dlc-raises-level-cap/">previously confirmed</a> raising of the character level cap from 50 to ... an undisclosed limit. Still, Gearbox states there will be "new challenges and opportunities for growth for characters from around level 34 to level 50." No release timetable has been announced, but we've contacted 2K for additional info. First screens in the gallery below!<br />

He's also put out a call to readers to describe any encounters with the slowdown, with the hopes that problems can be identified and resolved. It's likely been a while since you've thought of Odd Gentlemen's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pb-winterbottom"><em>The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom</em></a>, the extremely <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/10/joystiq-interview-chasing-pie-in-the-misadventures-of-p-b-wint/">promising</a> puzzle platformer that appeared on our radar during GDC 2008. Here's an update: We got the great news from 2K that it will bring the game exclusively to XBLA in early 2010.<br /> <br /> In the same missive, 2K also confirmed the Czech-developed point-and-click adventure, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/axel-and-pixel">Axel and Pixel</a> </em>(which looks similarly delightful in the below screens and the game's <a href="http://www.axelandpixelgame.com/">official site</a>), as another XBLA exclusive. Luckily, the wait's not so brutal, as you'll only have to hold out until this fall to give it a try.<br /> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/axel-and-pixel-xbla/">Axel and Pixel (XBLA)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/axel-and-pixel-xbla/#2236404"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/apscreen01-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="apscreen01-1024" title="apscreen01-1024" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/axel-and-pixel-xbla/#2236405"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/apscreen02-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="apscreen02-1024" title="apscreen02-1024" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/axel-and-pixel-xbla/#2236406"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/apscreen14-1024px_thumbnail.jpg" alt="apscreen14-1024px" title="apscreen14-1024px" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/axel-and-pixel-xbla/#2236727"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/a+p-screen-3-1024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="a+p-screen-3-1024" title="a+p-screen-3-1024" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/26/2k-bringing-p-b-winterbottom-axel-and-pixel-to-xbla/">2K bringing P.B. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/borderlands"><em>Borderlands</em></a> isn't even out yet. Sure, you know about its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/borderlands-has-at-least-three-million-possible-weapon-combinati/">three million weapon combinations</a>, but you also know <em>that's not enough</em>. Don't worry, because Gearbox is on the job, as company president (and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/17/whats-in-a-name-gearbox-software/">consummate yarn-spinner</a>) Randy Pitchford informs <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/pitchford-talks-up-borderlands-dlc">Eurogamer</a> that DLC is "already in motion." He says that "people are going to be surprised" by what the content is, and how soon it will arrive. He adds that Gearbox will be monitoring what players want after the game launches in October, so the company can adjust DLC plans accordingly.<br /><br />An announcement regarding the first batch of DLC should be made "soon." We have no way of knowing what the DLC will be, but we're assuming that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/overheard-e3-hilarity-abound-at-borderlands-demo/">exploding spiders and flaming midgets will be involved</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/21/borderlands-dlc-already-in-motion/">Borderlands DLC 'already in motion'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 21 Aug 2009 21:00:00 EST. <strong>Update</strong>: Call it a failure in translation. The representative meant PAX in Seattle and not PAX East in Boston. The company currently has no plans for PAX East. The rep followed up that "'early 2010' is a much more realistic release date than 'second quarter 2010.'"<br /><br />Speaking to a 2K Games representative at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gamescom-2009">GamesCom</a>, Joystiq learned that a new <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2">BioShock 2</a></em> trailer is set to be revealed at next year's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/pax-east">PAX East</a> show, which will also be host to a strong presence from the company. Now, according to a Canadian <a href="http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&amp;langid=EN&amp;sku_id=0665000FS10128894&amp;catid&amp;test_cookie=1&amp;test_cookie=1#">retail listing</a>, the company is collaborating with another third party on a bundle. Futureshop lists an <em>NHL 2K10 </em>package featuring 2K Sports' hockey game (and its utterly terrifying <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/14/alex-ovechkin-hip-checks-nhl-2k10-cover/">box art</a>) and a MotionPlus, for $69.99 (about $63 USD). <a href="http://www.amazon.ca/NHL-2K10-Motion-Plus-Bundle/dp/B002JPJ3I4">Amazon.ca</a> also shows the same bundle at a $10 discount.<br />
<br />
These seemingly Canada-exclusive bundles will ship concurrently with the standalone release on September 15.<br />

Well, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/open-world-meets-under-water-in-new-oblivion-bioshock-bundle/"><em>Bioshock </em>and <em>Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion</em> bundle</a> just got a lot less interesting. We put in word to Bethesda's Pete Hines asking which version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/oblivion"><em>Oblivion</em></a> would be included in the bundle, and he got back to us with this most sad news: It's the original game. That means it's <strong>not</strong> the Game of the Year edition including <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shivering_isles"><em>Shivering Isles</em></a>, the lengthy expansion featuring the hilarious Daedric Prince of Madness, Sheogorath.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/18/oblivion-bioshock-bundle-doesnt-feature-game-of-the-year-editi/">Oblivion, Bioshock bundle doesn't feature Game of the Year edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Jun 2009 18:58:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gearbox">Gearbox</a> has confirmed its casual <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/e3-2009">E3</a> mention to Joystiq that it <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59059">plans</a> to release <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/borderlands">Borderlands</a></em> this October. A company representative told us today that it's looking forward to breaking new ground this fall when the "role-playing shooter with strong co-op and split-screen gameplay" is released. The rep also confirmed that the post-apocalyptic action game will launch simultaneously on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.<br /><br /><em>Borderlands</em> had been banging around for a while, then disappeared for an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/06/2k-gearboxs-borderlands-still-has-a-pulse/">awkward period of time</a> before ultimately reemerging - think: butterfly - with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/01/a-bunch-of-totally-not-cel-shaded-borderlands-images/">new art style</a>, which freshened up the title and removed it from "<em><a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/fallout-3">Fallout</a></em> clone" territory. We've been waiting on platform confirmation for 2K's upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock 2</em></a> for some time now, and now we finally know which systems the title will release for. <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/05/29/2k-bioshock-2-will-release-for-pc-ps3-and-360-on-october-30/">VG247</a> confirmed with 2K that the game will release "on PS3, 360 and PC on 30th October, just for the record." It should be noted that October 30 is the European release date for the game, and that it's already been confirmed for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/26/bioshock-2-dated-oct-30-in-europe-nov-3-in-north-america/">a November 3 release</a> in North America.<br /><br />With the game releasing on multiple platforms on day one, it means that PS3 enthusiasts won't miss out on the fun due to timed exclusivity this go round.<br /><br /> <strong>Update: </strong>We contacted 2K to clarify the statements that VG247 received, and it confirmed that a simultaneous Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release would occur in North America as well. GamePro is promising that its upcoming July issue will blow the doors off of the sequel to 2K's undersea shooter, <em>BioShock</em>. Of course, by the time it hits newsstands, you'll probably be full to the gills with all the the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2">BioShock 2</a> </em>details you can handle -- we're sure to hear a ton about the game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2009">during E3</a>.<br /><br />Fortunately, GamePro recently offered a delicious morsel to its potential readers, <a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/210359/bioshock-2s-big-daddy-unveiled-in-july-2009-gamepro/">uploading the <em>Big Daddy</em>-infused cover</a> of the upcoming issue to the mag's online edition. You can check out the full cover -- and the design for <em>BioShock 2</em>'s diving suit-wearing protagonist -- after the break. As a point of reference, <a href="http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/210359/bioshock-2s-big-daddy-unveiled-in-july-2009-gamepro/">here's the original Big Daddy</a>. And here's a poster for the hilarious, heartfelt Adam Sandler comedy <a href="http://www.impawards.com/1999/posters/big_daddy.jpg"><em>Big Daddy</em></a>. And here's professional wrestler <a href="http://catch-americain.wifeo.com/images/Big-Daddy-V-01.jpg">Big Daddy V</a>! This is getting ridiculous. After confirming that the <em>Sea of Dreams</em> subtitle <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/19/2k-dashes-bioshock-2s-subtitle-dreams/">had been dropped</a> from <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock 2</em></a> and then confirming that it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/bioshock-2-not-waiving-sea-of-dreams-subtitle/"><em>hadn't</em> been dropped</a>, it seems like 2K is taking too many of its own plasmids. Following a serious back and forth regarding the game's name at <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/gdc-2009">GDC</a>, 2K eventually settled on "no comment." The company says that there should be an official answer by the end of the week.<br /><br />Kind-hearted folk that we are, we've decided to help out 2K marketing by putting the question to a key demographic: Joystiq readers!<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/24/gdc09-2k-as-confused-about-sea-of-dreams-as-we-are/#poll28455">View Poll</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/24/gdc09-2k-as-confused-about-sea-of-dreams-as-we-are/">GDC09: 2K as confused about 'Sea of Dreams' as we are</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 24 Mar 2009 16:26:00 EST. It looks like someone at 2K missed the memo. After confirming last week to Joystiq that <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2"><em>BioShock 2</em></a> had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/19/2k-dashes-bioshock-2s-subtitle-dreams/">dropped its <em>Sea of Dreams</em> subtitle</a>, 2K has now <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/bioshock-2-doesnt-drop-subtitle"><em>unconfirmed</em> the news to Eurogamer</a>. So, to reiterate, the full title is, in fact, <em>BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams</em>. It's a shame because we were really hoping to pitch a new subtitle. Alas, it looks like <em>BioShock 2: Big Daddy Day Care</em> just wasn't meant to be.<br /><br />Joystiq will be spending some quality time with the game in the very near future. Stay tuned.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/23/bioshock-2-not-waiving-sea-of-dreams-subtitle/">BioShock 2 not waiving Sea of Dreams subtitle</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 20:44:00 EST. He sees the console flooded in a flurry of casual games, what he dubs "crappy titles." He thinks that for every ten casual titles produced, publishers expect two to be hits, financing the other eight. The problem is that all of those titles flood the market, making it tougher for casual games to prosper and only servies to confuse consumers. <br /><br />He points to his own 2K-published <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/carnival-games"><em>Carnival Games</em></a> as an example. "Had we released it last week, it would have been much tougher," he says. "There's far too much stuff in the Wii market [now] and it's hard to shine."<br /><br />Regardless of a game's focus, we've always been big advocates of fun. If a game is only a collection of minigames, it's fine so long as they're fun to play. We think even pushing for that ten can mean that more than two are engaging and not "crappy," as he puts it. What do you all think? Too many casual games out there?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/2k-exec-unhappy-with-flood-of-crappy-casual-wii-titles/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/14/2k-exec-criticizes-casual-titles-on-wii/">2K exec criticizes casual titles on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 Jan 2009 14:41:00 EST. <div align="left">Talking with <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/32852/Bioshock-can-do-a-Star-Wars-says-2K-boss">MCV</a>, 2K Games global prez Christoph Hartmann admits that the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock-2">BioShock</a> </em>franchise could churn out five total sequels in its life, but promises that 2K won't just "cash in" on the title.<br /></div>
</div>
<br />Talking about the potential for future sequels, Hartmann says that "if we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did." Something that <em>Star Wars</em> did do, but video games are a bit different and as much as Hartmann wants to compare <em>BioShock </em>to <em>Star Wars</em>, it's clear to us that <em>BioShock </em>is its own beast. Just be careful 2K. Some of you who've played the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock"><em>BioShock</em></a> demo may have noticed a number of minor graphical differences between the PS3 and 360 versions. A 2K community manager by the name of 2K Elizabeth made a post on their forums about an upcoming patch that will fix some of those problems, specifically:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Fix for an issue where large blocky pixels would show up whenever viewing the Bouncer and Elite Bouncer variants of the Big Daddy.</li>
    <li>Fix for an issue where white/discolored bars would show up at the right and bottom sides of the screen during the plane crash / water scene at the beginning of the game.</li>
</ul>
There are other problems fixed, but the full patch list will be unveiled at a later time. The patch itself will be released some time after the game's launch, but no specific date has been announced.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/10/15/2k-to-patch-ps3-bioshock/">VG247</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/upcoming-bioshock-patch-will-fix-graphical-issues/">Upcoming BioShock patch will fix graphical issues</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 16:00:00 EST. Well this one came right out of left field. After two weeks of big name games hitting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-live-arcade">Xbox Live Arcade</a>, we are greeted this Wednesday with <a href="http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2008/10/06/561714.aspx"><em>MLB Stickball</em></a> from 2K Sports. We know next to nothing about the title, though a pair of screenshots reveal what looks like stickball featuring super-deformed versions of familiar players from Major League Baseball. Gamescore Blog also notes that players can unlock baseball cards and earn extra points for hitting certain objects. So, breaking a window will <em>earn</em> points then? Count us in.<br /><br /><em>MLB Stickball</em> will be available this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points.<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/06/mlb-stickball-hits-xbla-this-week/">MLB Stickball hits XBLA this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Oct 2008 12:35:00 EST. If you're asking yourself why <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/17/mlb-superstars-introduces-us-to-baseball-golf/">we're continuing</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/05/first-screens-for-mlb-superstars-might-cause-your-face-to-drop-i/">to cover</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mlb-superstars">this game</a>, know that it's sort of turned into a sick obsession for us. Taking widely recognized baseball players and making their likenesses compete in minigames that are anything but their sport of choice is like taking a gardener and asking him to build a rocket and land on the moon. It's just plain silly.<br /><br />But, then there are small, tiny rays of hope that manage to break through the thick protection of <em>cash-in</em> that is the outer crust of <em>MLB Superstars</em>. That ray of hope? <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FMjYdBOWao">The Philly Phanatic</a>. It can't be <em>all</em>* bad now, can it?<br /><br />
<br />*Yes, it can. And probably will be.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/mlb-superstars-pitches-us-some-new-screens/">MLB Superstars pitches us some new screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Sep 2008 21:01:00 EST.
