Microsoft has announced that Xbox One owners will soon be able to stream their library of games to any Windows 10 device, later this year.

"With Windows 10 we will enable streaming of Xbox One games to any PC or tablet running Windows 10, later this year," Xbox boss Phil Spencer said during a Windows 10 showcase event today. As part of his gaming-focused announcements for the operating system, Spencer showcased streaming by playing Forza Horizon 2 on a Surface Pro 3.

"We will treat Xbox gaming on Windows 10 with as much passion" as on the console, he added. As part of a set of gaming announcements for Microsoft's upcoming operating system refresh, Spencer also announced Fable Legends would launch on PC and allow for cross-play (either co-operatively or competitively) between the Xbox One.

The house Sid Meier built, Firaxis, will send out an "interstellar strategy game" for PC, Mac and iPad in early 2015. According to 2K's initial announcement, players will research new technologies and spaceship designs, pierce through the unknown reaches of the galaxy and fight in turn-based combat, all hinged on "distinctive" maps and dynamically created combat missions.

"My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration," says Meier.

Publisher 2K is also teasing cross-connectivity between Starships and last year's turn-based Civilization spin-off, Beyond Earth.

Continue reading Sid Meier's 'Starships' blasts off this year

Sid Meier's 'Starships' blasts off this year originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 19 Jan 2015 08:38:00 EST. Update 2: According to the PSN Support page, PlayStation online services are back to normal. Sony offered no reason for the outage.

Update 1: Sony has upgraded its online support status from red (offline) to yellow ("Heavy Network Traffic"). Some users may experience delays in signing in, with the PSN console and web store and more.

Those attempting to log into the PlayStation Network may be met with connection issues. According to the PSN Support page, the network is listed as offline. The cause of the outage is currently unknown.

"We're aware that some of you are having issues connecting to the PSN. Engineers are investigating," the official Ask PlayStation account tweeted. Additional PSN-related services, including the Sony Entertainment Network store, are experiencing problems.

Sony's PSN ended 2014 on a down note - an issue that also plagued the Xbox Live service - due to an apparent DDoS attack on its servers. Service, however, was soon restored. Sony has scheduled maintenance for the PlayStation Network on January 15, during which the service will be unavailable from 12PM EST and through 4PM EST.
PlayStation Network offline, Sony investigating [Update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 13 Jan 2015 20:03:00 EST. Update: In a tweet early this morning, PlayStation support wrote: "PS4, PS3, and Vita network services are gradually coming back online - thanks for your patience." Save for some apps experiencing issues, Xbox Live appears to have been cleared of connectivity problems.

Original Post: The Grinch stole online connectivity this year, it would seem. Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network have been hit with online issues, with each service taken offline in an apparent DDoS attack (distributed denial of service). The targeted attack began late in the evening on December 24 and continues today.

PlayStation Network services, including the Sony Network Entertainment website, are currently offline. Xbox Live services appear to be functioning in part on Xbox One and Xbox 360; however, some users are still reporting issues connecting to Xbox Live, playing games online and accessing cloud content - including any pinned games and apps. Sony and Microsoft have acknowledged the outages via their respective Twitter accounts.

"We are aware that some users are experiencing difficulty logging into the PSN. We will update this article with any changes that occur in regards to this issue. Thank you for your patience," the PlayStation Network status page added. Sony's service has been taken offline for maintenance. The Xbox Support Page notes a select number of apps are currently experiencing issues.
Xbox Live, PSN suffer outages in apparent denial of service attack [Update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 26 Dec 2014 14:00:00 EST. Leading game broadcasting site Twitch has announced that it has a reached an agreement to acquire GoodGame, a company it describes as "the world's first full-service agency dedicated to the esports and live video game broadcasting communities."

Twitch claims the move is aimed at helping the streaming video site to better serve ads to viewers while also highlighting the platform's utility and profit potential to companies wanting to serve ads to the young-leaning Twitch demographic. "GoodGame has an amazing reputation in the industry for its expertise in both sponsorship sales and talent support," writes Twitch COO Kevin Lin. "Their passion for helping content creators and pro players achieve success has elevated the entire industry in the minds of brands worldwide."

Twitch fans worried that the site's explosive success of late - Twitch was recently acquired by Amazon for $970 million - will turn the site into a sterile, corporate entity with no concern for the Twitch community, need not worry, according to GoodGame CEO Alexander Garfield. "I believe in Twitch - I really do," Garfield writes in a lengthy explanation of why he chose to sell GoodGame. "They're great at what they do, they understand esports, and they genuinely care about making sure the community grows in the right way. To use an industry meme: they get it."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed to May 19, 2015, CD Projekt RED announced. The game was previously expected to launch in February 2015, but the studio said it sees "many details that need to be corrected" as the game nears the end of its development. "When we release the most important game in our studio's history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly," the developer added.

CD Projekt said it "set the release date too hastily," and that it owes its fans an apology for the delay. "It's a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that," the developer said. The Witcher 3 is in development for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Capcom apparently let the Street Fighter 5 cat out of the YouTube bag early, with a now removed teaser trailer announcing the fighter "exclusively on PS4 and PC." Unsurprisingly there aren't many details, but as soon as Capcom's ready to pipe up we'll let you know.
You might have thought that buying into the new generation of consoles would protect you from the gleeful, maniacal punishment of the Dark Souls series, but you were wrong. Namco has revealed that a new edition of Dark Souls 2, subtitled Scholar of the First Sin, is headed to Xbox 360, PS3, PC and now, for the first time, Xbox One and PS4.

On all platforms - according to Namco - the expanded edition of the game packs some new features, including improved balance, new NPCs, an expanded story, and new item descriptions. These improvements will also be available to existing Dark Souls 2 owners via a free update. Meanwhile, the Xbox One, PS4 and DirectX 11 PC versions of the game will offer "enhanced graphics," with Namco explaining to Joystiq that this includes higher resolution textures and improved lighting effects, among other things. Furthermore, these versions of the game will increase the maximum number of online players.

Of course, it wouldn't be a proper re-release without packing in some DLC, and all versions of Scholar of the First Sin will include all three of Dark Souls 2's DLC episodes. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is set to arrive on April 7, 2015 - just after Bloodborne, developer From Software's newest game, hits the shelves.
Continue reading Expanded Dark Souls 2 coming to smite Xbox One, PS4 owners

Expanded Dark Souls 2 coming to smite Xbox One, PS4 owners originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 25 Nov 2014 00:00:00 EST. Developer Techland has announced it has halted production on Dying Light for Xbox 360 and PS3. In a Facebook post announcing the plan, Techland explained "older consoles just couldn't run the game and stay true to the core vision" at the same time.

"To ensure you enjoy Dying Light as much as we would like you to, we chose to release it without any compromises on the three strongest systems available," the post reaffirmed. Dying Light - a zombie-infested, open-world game with parkour-inspired movement - will now launch only for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Dying Light, from publisher Warner Bros., has seen multiple release date changes since it was announced in May 2013. Originally slated to arrive this March, the game was subsequently moved to February 2015 before settling on a January 27, 2015 launch.

Techland's complete statement on the decision to cancel the game on Xbox 360 and PS3 can be found after the break.
Longtime Ubisoft producer and collaborator Jade Raymond has left the company, citing a need to "pursue my other ambitions and new opportunities."

Raymond joined Ubisoft as a producer of the Assassin's Creed series in 2004, and went on to found subsidiary Ubisoft Toronto. Raymond's recent credits include Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Fellow Ubisoft Toronto founding member Alexandre Parizeau will fill Raymond's vacated position as managing director.

"I've spent 10 extraordinary years at Ubisoft, and I am proud to have been part of many of the best teams in the industry making truly remarkable games," Raymond said. "This is one of the hardest decisions of my career, but the Toronto studio is strong and on a solid path. I'm confident that now is a good time for me to transition leadership of the studio to Alex and to pursue my other ambitions and new opportunities. Stay tuned for more on what's next for me, but for now, I'd like to thank Ubisoft for its partnership through the years, and I wish them the very best in all their next endeavors."
Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe revealed Crescent Bay during today's Oculus Connect event, the latest virtual reality prototype from the hardware manufacturer. Crescent Bay boasts a higher resolution, refresh rate, 360 degree tracking, LEDs on its back, and removable integrated audio.

Iribe stressed that while Crescent Bay is still not the consumer version of Oculus' vision, Crescent Bay's improvements over the Crystal Cove are comparable to the advancements made from DK1 to DK2.

Activision has pegged sales of Destiny at $325 million worldwide in its first five days, which follows last week's announcement that the MMO-shooter dungeon crawler shipped over $500 million into retail. We don't have time to explain how Activision has time to explain where it got those numbers.

"Destiny is a platform that will grow and evolve and we will continue to work closely with our partners at Bungie to bring a long line of new experiences and content to life in the game," said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg. The company spoke to Joystiq yesterday about changes coming to the game, saying it has already "more than doubled" the number of public events players will encounter.
Continue reading Destiny sales reach $325 million worldwide

Destiny sales reach $325 million worldwide originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:30:00 EST. Microsoft announced it's bought Minecraft studio Mojang for a deal worth $2.5 billion. The buyout will see Mojang founders Markus "Notch" Persson, Carl Manneh and Jakob Porser leave the Swedish studio. Both companies confirmed the acquisition this morning, with Head of Xbox Phil Spencer noting Microsoft's "long seen the potential of Minecraft."

"At Microsoft, we believe in the power of content to unite people," Spencer wrote on Xbox Wire. "Minecraft adds diversity to our game portfolio and helps us reach new gamers across multiple platforms. Gaming is the top activity across devices and we see great potential to continue to grow the Minecraft community and nurture the franchise.

Rockstar Games announced this morning that the next-gen console versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 will arrive in two months, with the PC version driving in early next year. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will arrive on November 18, while the PC edition follows on January 27, 2015.

Developer Rockstar highlights improvements to the versions of the sinful sandbox available on Xbox 360 and PS3 include new weapons, vehicles and activities, more wildlife, denser traffic (sitting in that is always fun!), new foliage system (wow, so lush, very green) and enhanced damage and weather effects.
Continue reading Grand Theft Auto 5 hits PS4, Xbox One Nov. 18; PC in 2015

Grand Theft Auto 5 hits PS4, Xbox One Nov. 18; PC in 2015 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 12 Sep 2014 08:08:00 EST. Nintendo announced 'new' models of the 3DS and 3DS XL during this morning's Direct stream for Japan. The new versions feature a small "C-stick" analog pad on the right hand side above SNES-like colored face buttons. During the presentation, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata compared the pad to the GameCube controller's own yellow C-stick.

Unlike the old models, the new 3DS and 3DS XL have NFC-tech built in, meaning they can communicate with Amiibo figurines (like the ones coming for Super Smash Bros.) without need of an extra device. Nintendo's also introduced a Micro SD slot underneath the base cover, while new "Super Stable 3D" functionality is designed to ensure the 3D features stay sharp and comfortable, even when the 3DS is rotated (see below).
Continue reading Nintendo unveils 'new' 3DS, 3DS XL [update]

Nintendo unveils 'new' 3DS, 3DS XL [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 29 Aug 2014 07:27:00 EST. Amazon.com will purchase video game streaming service Twitch for approximately $970 million in cash. There you go, streamers. Happy? It wasn't Google!

"Like Twitch, we obsess over customers and like to think differently, and we look forward to learning from them and helping them move even faster to build new services for the gaming community," said Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as part of today's announcement.

Twitch CEO Emmett Shear added, "Being part of Amazon will let us do even more for our community. We will be able to create tools and services faster than we could have independently. This change will mean great things for our community, and will let us bring Twitch to even more people around the world."
Continue reading Twitch confirms sale to Amazon for $970 million

Twitch confirms sale to Amazon for $970 million originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 25 Aug 2014 16:03:00 EST. At the time of this writing, the PlayStation Network is offline, reportedly due to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 24. Shacknews reports that other services and online games, such as Path of Exile, World of Warcraft and League of Legends were also attacked, but those seem to have recovered.

It's worth noting that this attack, if true, is not comparable to the 2011 PSN outage. Whereas the incident three years ago was due to compromised systems and an intrusion into Sony servers, a DDoS attack is much simpler, and basically floods the targeted network with data so that it can't make new connections to legitimate users.

Should the issue escalate or resolve, we'll keep you posted.

Update: Sony is aware of the issue and working to resolve connection problems, according to the official PlayStation Twitter account.

Update 2: Sony has posted an update to the PlayStation Blog, clarifying that "no personal information has been accessed."

Update 3: Sony announced Monday morning that PSN is back online, and the maintenance that was due to take place today is being rescheduled.

Update: In a video featuring Snake sneaking around in a box stamped with the Steam logo, Hideo Kojima has officially announced Metal Gear Sold 5: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes is coming to PC. The announcement was made during Konami's special Metal Gear Preview Party, broadcast on Twitch. No release date was revealed, only that Ground Zeroes would release first.

Original Post: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are coming to Steam. The news comes by way of Konami's official European site, which seems to have accidentally revealed the announcement prior to tonight's planned Metal Gear preview event.

Though the press release Konami Europe's site is pointing to is no longer found online [link], we've discovered a text snippet of the announcement:

Tonight's MGSV:TPP Preview Show revealed; with a twist of METAL GEAR SOLID humour, that MGSV: THE PHANTOM PAIN and GROUND ZEROES will be available on Steam, release date yet to be disclosed. The event featured a surprise message from Kiefer Sutherland; the voice of 'Snake', announcing an exclusive gamescom pre-order deal. Fans who attended received vouchers offering a 5 EURO discount on the PlayStation(R)4 and Xbox One versions of MGSV:TPP. This pre-order deal is also available at the KONAMI booth (Hall 7.1) - so if you're planning to visit gamescom, be sure to swing by! We'll be announcing more pre-order deals over the next few months, stay tuned.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain had previously only been confirmed to arrive for Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360. Ground Zeroes, the prologue to The Phantom Pain's story, was released earlier this year.
The mysterious interactive horror game Sony teased during its Gamescom press conference? It may just be a window into the future of Konami's Silent Hill franchise.

Completing the interactive teaser while streaming on Twitch, user "SoapyWarpig" unlocked a cutscene featuring a desolate town. After title cards reveal a collaboration between Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro, the camera pulls out to reveal the cutscene's only character, The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus.

Then a title card reaches into our cold dead hearts and massages them back to life with the words: Silent Hills.

John Romero is working on a shooter for the first time in 14 years. Romero made the announcement on Monday night's recording of the Super Joystiq Podcast Gamescom Special, alongside special guests Mike Bithell and Brenda Romero.
Casey Hudson, longtime BioWare employee and executive producer of the Mass Effect series, has departed the company, Studio General Manager Aaryn Flynn revealed on the BioWare Blog. It doesn't sound like Hudson is leaving to join another company or, as is becoming increasingly common these days, forming his own studio, as a letter to his colleagues merely mentions the need to "hit the reset button."

"While I feel that the time has come, this is without a doubt the most difficult decision of my career," Hudson wrote. "BioWare is as magical a place today as it was when I started. The projects we are working on are some of the most exciting and prestigious in the world. The talent in our teams is second to none. And the people here are some of my closest friends. I've spent more time with many of you than my own family, and I have enjoyed every day of it."

As Hudson moves on to fulfill his own goals, BioWare is moving forward with Dragon Age: Inquisition, a new Mass Effect game, and consistently teasing us with short videos about super-powered teens. We look forward to learning more about all of the above.

The launch of Evolve has been delayed to 2015, Take-Two indicated in the company's fiscal first quarter 2015 financial report. The game will now launch globally on February 10, 2015.

Evolve was previously expected to arrive on October 21.

Evolve is Turtle Rock Studios' four-versus-one monster-hunting game for PS4, Xbox One and PC. In it, players team up with three friends to take down a large beast or can opt to take on the hunting party as the single monster. Our video preview of Evolve discusses the shooter's four character classes as well as its jetpacks and other tools that make the game's combat interesting.

Update: Take-Two President Karl Slatoff said during the publisher's financial call that it "primarily decided the title deserves and should have more time to be polished so it can reach its absolute optimal state before we release it," and that "historically, we've benefited from giving the creative teams more time to polish the titles, we've never regretted it."

Slatoff also stressed that he views the delay as not being a "meaningful amount of time," given that Evolve will still launch during Take-Two's fiscal year, and that February is a "pretty terrific" release window. "It's not at all crowded, and we will benefit from the fact that there are a lot of holiday sales of consoles. The install base will be bigger," Slatoff said.

Clearly tired of Crytek's "transitional phase," publisher Deep Silver's parent company has acquired the Homefront intellectual property and related assets from Crytek. Homefront: The Revolution was under production at Crytek UK, with recent reports declaring production had halted and the game's director resigned.

"We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years," said Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz.

The game will now be completed by the newly founded Nottingham-based Deep Silver Dambuster Studio. We've followed up with Deep Silver about whether staff from Crytek UK is transitioning over and will update with any further details.
Continue reading Homefront acquired by Deep Silver, production of sequel to continue at fresh studio

Homefront acquired by Deep Silver, production of sequel to continue at fresh studio originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 30 Jul 2014 12:00:00 EST. Almost as if it was fated to, the Destiny beta came to an end late last night. So, just in case you woke up this morning excited to carry on your space adventures, we're here to dampen your mood to a level more appropriate for a Monday. Still, it's only a six-week wait until the game itself launches for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 9.

Now that the beta's over, let us know what you thought of your time with it. Has it sold you on the game proper, or do you see Destiny as a galaxy far, far away from your consoles?

Bungie has kicked open the doors of the ongoing Destiny beta, inviting all players to join the test regardless of whether or not they were able to score a code.

"Today, at 4:00 PM PDT, we're opening the Destiny beta to anyone who wants to create a character and walk in their boots," reads an update posted to the Bungie website moments ago. The developer then points out the caveats attached to this offer: Interested players must have an Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4, and a valid Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus subscription.

Bungie claims this show of generosity is an effort to fully stress test the game prior to its official September launch. If a chance to aid the studio behind Halo is not enough to convince you to join the beta test, keep in mind that those who play Destiny on Saturday, July 26 will be rewarded with a special in-game emblem for their assistance.

Despite earlier claims that EA's cops versus robbers shooter Battlefield Hardline would debut in October of this year, the publisher has now officially delayed the game to 2015.

According to a new entry on the Battlefield blog, Battlefield Hardline has been delayed to give developer Visceral Games more time to ensure that Hardline is "the best, most innovative Battlefield experience we can give to you, our fans." Full details on how Visceral plans to accomplish that feat are lacking, but the developer claims the delay should allow it to improve the game's single-player story depth, add more innovative multiplayer features and enhance the shooter's online stability.

Battlefield Hardline is not the only game delayed by EA today, as Dragon Age: Inquisition has also been pushed back to November 21.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will launch on November 18 in North America, a delay from the previous launch date of October 7, Executive Producer Mark Darrah announced today. In Europe, Inquisition will now launch on November 21.

"We appreciate the enormous support we've received from all of you to get to this point, and while this extra few weeks may not seem like a lot, I know the game you'll play will be all the better for it," Darrah says.

He continues, "I'm privileged to be a part of a team that has been working very hard to surpass every measure they've set for themselves. That has meant completing huge amounts of game content, fixing bugs both big and small, and improving the overall experience. This last bit of time is about polishing the experience we want you to see. Ensuring that our open spaces are as engaging as possible. Strengthening the emotional impact of the Hero's choices. And ensuring the experience you get is the best it can be in the platform you choose to play on."

Dragon Age: Inquisition was part of what we called "The Video Game Industry's $300 Day," a lineup of five major games slated to launch on October 7. This is the first game on that list to change release dates, and a few of our contributors totally called it.

EA also announced today the delay of Battlefield Hardline from October 21, 2014, to some time in 2015.

Following the 18,000 layoffs Microsoft announced this morning, the tech giant has also confirmed reports that it will be closing its Xbox Entertainment Studios division within the next few months.

Though the closure of Xbox Entertainment Studios will drastically reduce Microsoft's plans for original Xbox programming, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer claims that a few key projects will live on. "Xbox will continue to support and deliver interactive sports content like 'NFL on Xbox,' and we will continue to enhance our entertainment offering on console by innovating the TV experience through the monthly console updates," Spencer wrote in a statement to Recode.

According to Variety, it also appears likely that the Ridley Scott-produced Halo prequel Halo: Nightfall will survive the death of Xbox Entertainment Studios, both because it's quite a ways into development already and because Microsoft is currently in negotiations with Showtime to broadcast the series on premium cable alongside its Xbox debut.

Update: Microsoft has contacted us to confirm that Halo: Nightfall will continue production. You'll find the official statement below.
Continue reading Microsoft to shutter Xbox Entertainment Studios [update]

Microsoft to shutter Xbox Entertainment Studios [update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 17 Jul 2014 14:05:00 EST. Oculus VR has issued a legal statement denying ZeniMax Media's claims that Oculus Chief Technology Officer John Carmack developed key VR technology while employed at ZeniMax, therefore entitling ZeniMax and its subsidiary id Software to compensation.

"ZeniMax's Complaint falsely claims ownership in Oculus VR technology in a transparent attempt to take advantage of the Oculus VR sale to Facebook," the statement reads. "By deliberately misstating some facts and omitting others, ZeniMax makes the incredible assertion that it, a videogame software publishing company for personal computers and consoles like the Sony PlayStation, invented and developed a virtual reality hardware and software system."

The statement continues: "The truth is quite different. There is not a line of ZeniMax code or any of its technology in any Oculus VR product. [...] Until the Facebook deal, and the perceived chance for a quick payout, ZeniMax never raised any claim of infringement against Oculus VR, undoubtedly because ZeniMax never has contributed any intellectual property or technology to Oculus VR."

Carmack responded to the allegations last month. "No work I have ever done has been patented," he said. "ZeniMax owns the code that I wrote, but they don't own VR."

Today's statement asserts that the Oculus VR headset technology was developed solely by Palmer Luckey, and claims that "[ZeniMax's] lawsuit is nothing more than ZeniMax seeking to correct for a massive missed opportunity through the assertion of meritless litigation." Oculus now demands a jury trial to resolve the issue.
Super Smash Bros on Wii U and 3DS will allow players to customize their favorite fighter's special moves. Each character will still have four special moves, each with two variations, allowing for a total of 12 possible moves. For example, Mario's fireball might fly quickly in a straight line, or cause multiple hits, or it might bounce along the ground as it always has.

The news comes from a Smash Bros event at E3 2014, hosted by series creator Masahiro Sakurai. He pointed out (though an interpreter), that these customized moves will not be available when playing the "with anyone" mode, but you can use them when playing the "with friends" mode. Furthermore, custom characters can be transferred between the 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. When asked how that process would work, Sakurai told Joystiq that we'd have to wait for the Wii U release to find out.

Players will also be able to give their players "equipment" which alters certain statistics, like speed. Different characters will be able to hold different amounts of equipment, said Sakurai, noting that larger characters can hold more equipment, while lighter, more agile characters can't carry as much, to compensate for their other advantages.
Super Smash Bros lets you customize special moves, transfer characters between Wii U and 3DS originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jun 2014 22:29:00 EST. Pac-Man has been revealed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS. The news comes from a special event going on ... right now at E3 2014, hosted by series creator Masahiro Sakurai.

He appears as he did in Pac-Land (similar to the design seen above), while some of his attacks transform him into his more familiar "pizza with a missing slice" appearance. His attacks also involve eating dots and throwing fruit.

The Nintendo GameCube controller adapter for Super Smash Bros. Wii U, which will grant the use of classic GameCube or WaveBird controllers with the fighter, has been priced at $19.99. Nintendo will also launch a Nintendo GameCube controller with Super Smash Bros. markings for $29.99. There will also be a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U bundle with one controller and one adapter for $99.99. Last we heard of Tomonobu Itagaki's Devil's Third, the game was nearly finished and ready for launch later this year, though we have now learned that the game will appear exclusively on Nintendo's Wii U console.

Itagaki broke the news during an IGN E3 stream, though the developer most famous for the gravity-defying Dead or Alive franchise offered no further information on what we can expect from the Wii U game. Nintendo "really understood my vision," Itagaki stated, "so I felt I really had to work with them."

Lacking from Itagaki's revelation was any sort of release date.

Shigeru Miyamoto returns to starships and animal people for a new Wii U entry in Nintendo's classic shooter series. Three levels were on hand in a small pre-E3 event hosted by Miyamoto himself, two in small arena style stages similar to those in Star Fox Command and a third showing off the game's new helicopter vehicle.

While these levels demonstrated how classic Star Fox combat has been adapted for the unique two-screen set up offered by Wii U and its tablet controller, they're far from representative of the full version of the game Nintendo plans to release in 2015. Even as a prototype, though, Star Fox demonstrates great potential.

Continue reading Star Fox flies in formation on Wii U

Star Fox flies in formation on Wii U originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jun 2014 13:00:00 EST. Surprise! Mario Maker is indeed a real game that lets you build your own Super Mario Bros. stage, stop while building it, and play your creation. While rumors suggested the creation game would be coming to Nintendo 3DS, it's in fact a Wii U game.

The game arrives in 2015 in Europe and North America, and will allow players to create Mario stages using graphics from either the original 8-bit Super Mario Bros. or in the style of New Super Mario Bros.
Mario Maker lets you make your own Level 1-1 on Wii U originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jun 2014 12:39:00 EST. Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2 will launch in October this year in both North America and Europe. The news comes from Nintendo's E3 2014 Digital Event, where it was also revealed that Bayonetta 2 will also include the original Bayonetta. During Nintendo's E3 press conference, Eiji Aonuma revealed a new entry in the fan-favorite Legend of Zelda series.

Scant information was offered, but we were shown an attractive vignette, featuring Link riding his trusty steed Epona away from what appears to be a particularly angry, laser-equipped Octorok. Aonuma claims the game will be far less linear than past Zelda entries, a change he says "will create new opportunites for gameplay not seen in earlier Zelda games."

No solid release date was offered for this as-yet-unnamed Wii U Zelda sequel, but it should arrive at some point during 2015 in both North America and Europe.
Nintendo reveals Wii U Zelda sequel, coming 2015 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 10 Jun 2014 12:26:00 EST. During Nintendo's E3 2014 Digital Event, the company announced that the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros will be released on October 3 in both North America and Europe.

Nintendo also showed off Skylanders-like tech that will allow players to scan toy figurines called Amiibo into the Wii U version of the game.

When Destiny first appears on the PlayStation 4 on September 9 it will be available both as a standalone game, and in a special bundle with an exclusive "glacier white" console.

According to Andrew House, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., this special version of the PlayStation 4 will feature a 500GB hard drive, a "glacier white" DualShock 4 controller, a copy of Destiny and a 30-day PlayStation Plus voucher. Notably lacking from House's revelation was a price point for the bundle.

Update: Sony sent along further information on the bundle, which will cost $449 (439 euros). Alternatively, European buyers can pick up the glacier white PS4 alone for 399 euros. Glacier white and "urban camouflage" versions of the DualShock 4 controller will be available for $59 (59 euros).
Continue reading White PlayStation 4 bundle debuts alongside Destiny [Update: $449]

White PlayStation 4 bundle debuts alongside Destiny [Update: $449] originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 09 Jun 2014 23:45:00 EST.
Update: A new trailer reveals it's also on the way to Xbox One and - yup - PC too.
