Nintendo has <a href="http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&amp;entry=77932350">filed for a trademark</a> on the phrase <em>"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/eternal-darkness">Eternal Darkness</a>,"</em> the title of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_Darkness:_Sanity%27s_Requiem">the GameCube's Silicon Knights-developed psychological horror game</a>. It tricked us by doing things like pretending to reset the console or lowering a fake volume indicator on the TV screen, due to a low in-game "sanity" meter. Apparently the trademark lapsed recently, and while we'd love to tell you that this means someone is working on a brand new version of <em>Eternal Darkness</em> for the Wii, it likely just means that Nintendo is covering its trademarked bases.<br />
<br />
Besides, if you just want a Wii game that will drive you nuts, try some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/07/spogs-racing-slams-into-wiiware/"><em>SPOGS Racing</em></a>. That game is so bad it's <em>crazy</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/18/nintendo-re-applies-for-eternal-darkness-trademark/">Nintendo re-applies for Eternal Darkness trademark</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 18 Feb 2010 09:00:00 EST. According to a <a href="http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/0/2AE20F8BAD380FB5802576CB0060C184?OpenDocument">BBFC</a> listing, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Prince-of-Persia-The-Forgotten-Sands/"><em>Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands</em></a> may include a special bonus -- <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Prince-of-Persia-Classic/"><em>Prince of Persia Classic</em></a>. Unfortunately, the listing isn't enough to discern whether the <em>classic</em> version would be the same game now available on Xbox Live and PSN, or if it's part of some kind of special edition package.<br />
<br />
When asked for comment, a Ubisoft representative told Joystiq it would not comment on rumors. Although our questions remain unanswered, at least we can look forward to the <em>Sands of Tim</em>e prince coming to the HD era and answering <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/14/prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands-fills-in-gaps-before-warri/">a few <em>other</em> questions</a>.<br />

Reports began circulating this morning about major layoffs at a handful of Activision-owned development studios, affecting as much as half of Radical Entertainment's staff (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prototype">Prototype</a></em>), an undisclosed amount of Neversoft employees (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero">Guitar Hero</a></em>, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tony-hawk">Tony Hawk</a></em>), and the entirety of Luxoflux (<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/transformers">Tranformers</a></em>). An Activision rep confirmed two former studio layoffs to us this afternoon, though a representative didn't city any official numbers -- the rep also told us he could "confirm the closure of Luxoflux."<br />
<br />
The full, significantly more vague, company statement given out to everyone reads: "Activision Publishing continually evaluates its resources to ensure that they are properly matched against its product slate and strategic goals. In 2010, the company's SKU count will be smaller than in 2009 driven in part, by a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/activision-severely-cutting-music-game-releases-in-2010/">decrease in the number of music-based games</a> we will be releasing. As we discussed on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/10/activision-reports-113-million-in-profits-for-2009/">our earnings conference call</a> yesterday, we are directing our resources against the largest and most profitable business segments, and as part of this initiative, we are realigning our resources to better reflect our slate and the market opportunities. At the same time, we are increasing our digital/online capabilities as we expect that digital/online will continue to become a more meaningful part of our business model in the years ahead."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/luxoflux-shuttered-as-layoffs-hit-activision-dev-studios-publis/">Luxoflux shuttered as layoffs hit Activision dev studios, publisher confirms</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 18:55:00 EST. Let's get this straight: There are rumors about video games, and then there are <em>crazy internet rumors</em> about video games that are so intriguing you can't help but get excited about them, even though you don't believe they're anything more than products of an overactive fan imagination. This post is about the second kind.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://thewiire.com/blog/post/6183-rumor-new-zelda-wii-details-leaked">Information has bubbled up</a> from the Japanese <a href="http://www.2chan.net/">2chan</a> message board about the new Wii <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda,@wii"><em>Zelda</em></a> game and, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/2chan">2chan</a>'s record on rumors hasn't been bad (they've broken information on Japanese anime, <em>Resident Evil</em> and other games that later turned out to be true), these rumors are crazy. Like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/majoras-mask"><em>Majora's Mask</em></a> crazy. See what we mean after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/rumor-zelda-wii-to-be-majoras-mask-sequel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Zelda Wii to be Majora's Mask sequel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/20/rumor-zelda-wii-to-be-majoras-mask-sequel/">Rumor: Zelda Wii to be Majora's Mask sequel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Jan 2010 21:00:00 EST. According to <a href="http://www.gearlive.com/news/article/q409-black-friday-2009-best-buy-ad/">Gear Live</a>, Best Buy's <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/black-friday">Black Friday 2009</a> ad circular has been leaked, and all the deals have been revealed. Gamers have quite a bit to look forward to, specifically some decent hardware bundles and heavily discounted games. The console deals include a PS3 with <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/ratchet-and-clank-future-a-crack-in-time"><em>Ratchet &amp; Clank Future: A Crack in Time</em></a> and <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet"><em>LittleBigPlanet</em> <em>Game of the Year Edition</em></a> for $299, as well as a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite bundle with four (thus far unidentified) games for $299. Also up for grabs will be <em>Brain Age</em> or <em>Mario</em> DSi bundles for $169.99 with a free $20 gift card.<br />
<br />
Several recent Xbox 360 and PS3 releases will be on sale for $34.99, including <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/brutal-legend"><em>Br&uuml;tal Legend</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/left-4-dead-2"><em>Left 4 Dead 2</em></a>, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/dragon-age"><em>Dragon Age</em></a>. Many older titles will be $20 or less. Meanwhile, several Wii titles will be reduced to $14.99, while certain DS titles will drop to $9.99 or less. Hit the source link for the full (and still rumored) set of deals. We've contacted Best Buy to verify the ad.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> Best Buy has responded to Joystiq about the ad, saying, "As a matter of company policy, Best Buy does not comment on rumor and speculation and so we are unable to confirm if our Black Friday insert has leaked."<br />

<em><small>It'll probably look a bit better than this</small></em></div>
Shortly before being pulled from the internet's intimidating view, an animator's online resume may have let out a secret -- concerning an iconic secret agent. According to the eagle-eyed <a href="http://supererogatory.tumblr.com/post/223707250/experience-team-bondi-sydney-australia">Superannuation</a>, Craig Peck listed work on a game dubbed "GoldenEye 2010 (Wii)," created in association with British developer Eurocom.<br />
<br />
Eurocom previously worked on the PlayStation 2 version of Activision's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/quantum-of-solace"><em>Quantum of Solace</em></a> tie-in. Assuming "GoldenEye 2010" isn't merely a nostalgic codename, it seems the publisher could be looking to a well-regarded classic for inspiration on a new James Bond game. Alas, Hollywood can't keep up with Activision's annual aspirations. <br />

The publisher won't divulge any of its plans this early, leaving us to wait for further information or for our time-traveling correspondent to confirm the game's existence. He's really more of a <em>GoldenEye 2020</em> fan -- looking back, that really was the best of the remakes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/rumor-animator-resume-lists-work-on-goldeneye-2010/">Rumor: Animator resume lists work on 'GoldenEye 2010'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Oct 2009 14:50:00 EST. <div align="left">If you missed out on last week's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/13/psa-buy-2-games-get-1-free-at-toys-r-us-this-week/">Toys "R" Us</a> or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/14/psa-amazon-buy-3-for-2-sale-on-select-games-this-week/">Amazon</a> "buy two, get one" sales, a purported scan of this weekend's Best Buy circular promises a third chance. It appears that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/epic-mickey"><em>Epic Mickey</em></a> might wind up on more platforms than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/05/epic-mickey-confirmed-by-epic-game-informer-cover/">initially suggested</a>. <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176386">1UP</a> is reporting that GI's original post on the November issue of the mag has removed all mentions of Wii exclusivity, a potential sign that the deal is not yet cast in stone -- or, at the least, that other consoles are being considered. And why not?<br /><br />Frankly, we'd like to see it ported to every console in existence, not just because we're big <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Spector">Warren Spector</a> fans, but ... okay, it's because we're big Warren Spector fans. <em>Huge</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/rumor-epic-mickeys-wii-exclusivity-in-question/">Rumor: Epic Mickey's Wii exclusivity in question</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 13:30:00 EST. Aside from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/@nintendo,@wii,rumor">multiple retailer listings</a> and today's alleged <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/23/rumor-internal-best-buy-memo-confirms-wii-price-cut-this-sunday/">internal Best Buy memo</a>, MCV <a href="http://www.mcvuk.com/news/35882/New-UK-Wii-bundle-leaked">reports</a> that a "retail source" told it the UK won't be receiving the same price cut that North America and Japan are expected to receive. Instead, the current model will be given the bundle treatment.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/no-wii-price-cut-for-uk">GamesIndustry.biz</a> spotted the new bundle on <a href="http://www.shopto.net/WII/HARDWARE/WIICO22-Wii%20Console%20%2B%20Wii%20Sports%20%2B%20Wii%20Sports%20Resort%20%2B%20Wii%20Motion%20Plus.html">ShopTo.net</a> -- it has since been removed, though an image and a shell of the page still exist -- which includes both <em>Wii Sports</em> and <em>Wii Sports Resort</em> as well as a MotionPlus attachment, for the same &pound;199.99 ($326.76) the system is priced at now. If it is true, at least UK Wii buyers will be getting a bit more for their pounds. What you see above is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/rumor-toys-r-us-ad-leaks-50-wii-price-cut/">third</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/rumor-target-circular-advertises-199-wii/">circular</a> image we've spotted in just five days advertising a Nintendo Wii price cut to $199.99. At this point, though the image that a <a href="http://kotaku.com/5362694/this-is-getting-wii+diculous">Kotaku</a> tipster sent in could very well be made of fancy pixel work by someone with too few extracurriculars on their schedule, we're fairly confident in a forthcoming price cut reveal.<br /><br />Considering the impending holiday season and those <em>other</em> consoles getting recent price drops, it seems likely <em>something</em> will occur with the big N in the upcoming months. If <strike>Miss Cleo's</strike> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/08/pachter-predicts-wii-price-cut-by-november/">Michael Pachter's predictions</a> based on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/11/wii-sales-have-dwiindled-by-50-in-the-past-five-months/">slowing sales</a> are any indication though, we'll know soon enough.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/18/rumor-best-buy-ad-fuels-the-50-wii-price-drop-fire/">Rumor: Best Buy ad fuels the $50 Wii price drop fire</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Sep 2009 20:00:00 EST. This ad would further corroborate the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/14/rumor-toys-r-us-ad-leaks-50-wii-price-cut/">Toys R Us ad</a> we saw that <em>also</em> showed the same price cut -- if we knew either ad was real. Us? We're hoping for a drastic price cut on <em>cameras</em> so tipsters can get better pictures of these advance ads.<br /><br />The DVD at the right side of the Target ad is <em><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GCUO7A/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&amp;pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&amp;pf_rd_t=201&amp;pf_rd_i=B001GCUO70&amp;pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_r=1W9AGBQEE9SYGJJZYYRX">Monsters vs. Aliens</a>,</em> which comes out on September 29. That at least shows that if this ad is a fake, it's a somewhat clever one. As always, we're not going to take this as <em>confirmation</em> of a price drop, but we <em>will</em> take it as confirmation that it would be smart to wait a couple of weeks before going to buy a Wii.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/17/rumor-target-circular-advertises-199-wii/">Rumor: Target circular advertises $199 Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Sep 2009 13:40:00 EST. Now, we're not going to call this <em>true</em> or <em>confirmed</em> or anything that implies we have any confidence in this image. In fact, there are a few possibilities:<br />
<ol>
    <li>It's real (yay!)</li>
    <li>The art of faking retail ads has advanced significantly since the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/17/slim-pickings-the-story-of-the-fabled-ps3-slim-so-far/#continued">run-up to the PS3 Slim release</a>, and it's a convincing fake</li>
    <li>It's real, but the "price cut" term is actually referring to a Toys R Us sale (still <em>yay</em>, but not universally so).</li>
</ol>
In any case, just <em>don't</em> buy a Wii until late September. You know how Capcom said that the North American and European releases of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/tatsunoko-vs-capcom"><em>Tatsunoko vs Capcom</em></a> would have some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/24/tatsunoko-vs-capcoms-four-new-characters-to-be-revealed-at-tgs/">new faces</a> not seen in the original Japanese release? Well, you could be looking at one of them from the <em>Tatsunoko </em>side as reader Vincent tipped us on <a href="http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee213/rayne21x/1252469089386.jpg">the above scan</a>. Vinny says the dude is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tekkaman_Blade">Tekkaman Blade</a>, who originally appeared in what is known as <em>an anime</em>. We're not sure what this <em>anime</em> is or what it does exactly, but as soon as we <em>crack that code</em>, we'll be sure to let you all know. While we do that, be sure to keep those fingers crossed for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/18/so-why-isnt-phoenix-wright-in-tatsunoko-vs-capcom/">our pal Phoenix Wright</a>.<br /><br />[Thanks, Vincent!]<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/09/rumor-a-new-tatsunoko-vs-capcom-challenger-appears/">Rumor: A new Tatsunoko vs Capcom challenger appears</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 11:30:00 EST. The contents of the 45-song setlist for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band">The Beatles: Rock Band</a> </em>have been <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles_Rock_Band#Soundtrack">pieced together</a> from various sources (trailers, articles, interviews) over the past several months, but it now appears that the lineup is finalized (and the early, unofficial ones were spot-on). The latest issue of Game Informer contains a cover feature on the game, in which the mag lays out the full, official song listing, this according to a Joystiq tipster.<br /><br />We haven't seen the issue itself in the <strike>flesh</strike> paper stock, but the listing jibes with with the otherwise unconfirmed, piecemeal ones we've already seen online. We've placed the full list after the break for your perusal (and comments, since we're sure it's not going to please <em>every</em> Beatles fan). Be sure to check out the September 2009 issue of Game Informer (they've got two swell variant covers!) for more new info on the game.<br /><br />[Thanks, Juan]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/rumor-full-setlist-for-the-beatles-rock-band-confirmed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: Full setlist for The Beatles: Rock Band confirmed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/rumor-full-setlist-for-the-beatles-rock-band-confirmed/">Rumor: Full setlist for The Beatles: Rock Band confirmed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 13 Aug 2009 20:20:00 EST. Just as <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/modern-warfare-2">Modern Warfare 2</a> </em>is hitting PS3 and Xbox 360 this November 10, Wii will finally be getting something a little less <em>modern </em>in the form of a port of the original <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-4"><em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em></a>, according to <a href="http://kotaku.com/5330124/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-comes-to-wii-this-november">Kotaku</a>. The site doesn't divulge the source of its information, but claims the game is being brought to Nintendo's console by Treyarch, developer of <em>Call of Duty: World at War</em>. An official announcement is said to be coming tomorrow; we've contacted Activision for confirmation.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Activision has confirmed that the Treyarch-ported "<em>Call of Duty: Modern Warfare</em>" will launch on Wii on November 10th.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/04/rumor-call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare-wii-coming-nov-10/">Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Wii coming Nov. 10 [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 04 Aug 2009 20:50:00 EST. Is the drum kit above (to the right) what <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5"><em>Guitar Hero 5</em></a> will be shipping with when it hits <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/27/guitar-hero-5-starts-the-party-on-september-1/">this September</a>? We're not 100% sure, but a trusted source at our sister site <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/guitar-hero-5s-drums-getting-a-rock-band-makeover/">Engadget</a> sent in the blurry shot, leading us to believe it could very well be. <br /><br />The new set bears a strong resemblance to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>that other</em> full band music/rhythm game</a> -- hey, there's even a lower bar support where the kick pedal could possibly hook on! Additionally, as Engadget rightly points out, the system controls have been moved in front of the pads. The back of the set allegedly features two kick pedal jacks and a "mysterious black mini jack" as well. We've asked for comment from Activision for confirmation of the set and have yet to hear back.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-v/">Guitar Hero 5</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-v/#2064300"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/guitar-hero-5-full-band-with-lyrics--star-power_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-v/#2064301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/guitar-hero-5-non-hud-shot_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-v/#2064302"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/guitar-hero-5-three-drums-one-guitar_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-v/#2064303"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/guitar-hero-5-two-drum-two-guitar--star-power_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/guitar-hero-v/#2195733"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/8940_01_0026_20090629-4g4h1-8102009-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/rumor-guitar-hero-5-drum-set-to-look-an-awful-lot-like-rock-ban/">Rumor: Guitar Hero 5 drum set to look an awful lot like Rock Band's</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 17:30:00 EST. It reads like so many rhythm/music game releases in the past -- the ubiquitous <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/07/03/rumor-rock-band-2-setlist-leak-part-two/">track list</a> <a href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/rumor-guitar-hero-world-tour-setlist-leaked/">leak</a>. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Beatles: Rock Band</span></a> is still a few months off from its September 9 release date but <a href="http://www.ripten.com/2009/06/14/rumor-the-beatles-rock-band-set-list-leaked/">Ripten</a> has gotten its hands on a leaked list of the possible tracks from the game (found after the break).<br /><br />The list does include the three tracks we checked out in our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/hands-on-the-beatles-rock-band/">hands-on with the game at E3</a>, though it also looks an awful lot like a list of Beatles singles across their career. Ripten notes that the ten tracks found in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/the-beatles-rock-band-intro-is-our-real-love/">the <span style="font-style: italic;">glorious</span> opening to the game</a> are all included in its leaked list -- and it is approximately the same <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/31/variety-45-songs-from-catalog-for-beatles-game/">amount of tracks</a> we know the game will be shipping with -- though we've yet to receive any official confirmation or denial from MTV Games, Harmonix, or EA.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> A Harmonix spokesperson has confirmed to us that this leaked list of songs is <em>definitely not</em> the track list for <em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em>, saying, "The rumored 'leaked' list is not the disc track listing for <em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em>. The latest issue of Nintendo Power is reporting that Capcom's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/marvel-vs-capcom-2/">other</a></em> crossover fighter, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Tatsunoko-vs-Capcom/">Tatsunoko vs Capcom</a></em>, is coming Stateside. According to scans of the issue (via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=360835&amp;page=6">NeoGAF</a>), Nintendo Power claims the fighter -- which Capcom <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/capcom-still-working-on-us-release-of-tatsunoko-vs-capcom/">has said</a> (on <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/capcom-dont-count-out-a-us-tatsunoko-vs-capcom/">numerous occasions</a>) it was attempting to bring to North America -- is headed to American shores.<br /><br />For the uninformed, <em>Tatsunoko vs Capcom</em> is a fighting game for the Nintendo Wii -- currently available only in Japan -- that pits characters from Capcom's vast library versus characters from the Japanese animation studio, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsunoko_Production">Tatsunoko Production</a>. You'll understand though -- we <em>had</em> to -- as you'll see on the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/beatles">Beatles</a>-sized screen behind Mr. McCartney some awfully interesting <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band"><em>Rock Band</em></a>-esque characters backing him up. <br /><br /><strike>Though we can't confirm anything, and there certainly aren't any streaming note charts in sight, we're going all the way out on a limb here and guessing the footage may be our first glimpse at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles-rock-band"><em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em></a> (again, sans gameplay).</strike> We've asked publisher MTV Games for confirmation and will update this post when we hear back.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> Thanks to commenter <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/profile/214127/">Comtar</a> for pointing out official confirmation of <em>The Beatles: Rock Band</em> video during Mr. McCartney's set at Coachella, via <a href="http://www.paulmccartney.com/news.php#1599/2009-04">McCartney's website</a>: "It was a night of firsts and was the unexpected, unannounced world premiere of the images from the coming Beatle <em>Rock Band</em> game which played on vast screens throughout "Got To Get You Into My Life." A GoNintendo reader by the name of Maxemillian_X recently <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=77845">snapped a picture of an upcoming release list</a> from an Amsterdam-based gaming retailer which reveals two interesting pieces of Wii news. The first (and somewhat more reasonable) item is a supposed July 10 release date for the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Wii%20Sports%20Resort">Wii Sports Resort</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Wii%20MotionPlus">Wii MotionPlus</a></em> bundle, as well as the standalone <em>MotionPlus</em> peripheral.<br /><br />The second eye catching release date on the list is for <em>Wii Fit Plus</em>, which is apparently due out November 19, giving us plenty of time to find out <em>what the hell it is</em>. Given the pictured release list's dubious origins (we don't know what store it came from), we're taking it with a healthy dose of trepidation. Still, a summer release for <em>Wii Sports Resort</em> and a follow up to Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/21/npd-group-wii-fit-has-outsold-halo-3/">exergaming cash cow</a> don't seem beyond the realm of possibilities.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/04/rumor-release-list-dates-wii-sports-resort-with-motionplus-rev/">Rumor: Release list dates Wii Sports Resort with MotionPlus, reveals Wii Fit Plus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Apr 2009 15:30:00 EST. If it weren't the day <em>before</em> April Fool's day, then we'd be willing to bet that a rumor regarding 19 year-old laserdisc game <em><a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&amp;start=1&amp;q=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Dog_McCree&amp;ei=wn7SSanrJ6PqlQf88NGbBw&amp;usg=AFQjCNHICQ6C7-W7xULYPsLMtRxzVtQCGw">Mad Dog McCree</a> </em>coming to the Nintendo Wii is nothing short of malarkey. As it stands, however, the <a href="http://www.gamefly.com/products/detail.asp?pid=136795">listing at GameFly</a> is pretty compelling evidence.<br /><br />We'll concede that the game would most certainly have a place on the Wii, with the <a href="http://nintendo.joystiq.com/tag/wiimote">Wiimote</a>'s IR sensor performing just as well, if not better, than a DVD remote. But, it's a <em>19 year old game</em>. And not even a good game, at that. Why would they port it to Wii? Oh, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-nintendo-has-shipped-50-million-wii-consoles/">right</a> ...<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-nintendo-has-shipped-50-million-wii-consoles/"><br /></a><br />We've put word in to Majesco (the publisher listed at GameFly) concerning the game and will be sure to update as soon as we receive a response.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2009/03/31/vintage-light-gun-game-mad-dog-mccree-targeting-wii/">Siliconera</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/31/rumor-gamefly-shows-mad-dog-mccree-setting-sights-on-wii/">Rumor: GameFly shows Mad Dog McCree setting sights on Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 18:15:00 EST. According to the latest issue of Japanese mag <em>Famitsu</em>, the Wii's <em>Resident Evil</em> fans indeed have something to be "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/wiis-resident-evil-fans-will-be-very-happy-very-soon-says-ca/">very happy</a>" about. Well, at least if they're keen on another round of super-speed <em>Resident Evil</em> nostalgia, likely presented in the form of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/resident-evil-umbrella-chronicles">another first-person point-and-shooter</a>. Though Capcom USA has yet to officially announce the game nor any specific details, <em>Biohazard: The Darkside Chronicles</em> looks to feature <em>Resident Evil 2</em>'s protagonist pair, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Oh, and zombies. Lots of 'em.<br /><br />We'll update with more information as soon as we can.<br /><br />[Thanks, Kevin]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/11/rumor-resident-evil-darkside-chronicles-coming-to-wii/">Rumor: Resident Evil 'Darkside Chronicles' coming to Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 07:25:00 EST. We hope Konami may soon be ready to scare some truth out of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/rumor-climax-developing-silent-hill-remake-for-wii-psp/">earlier rumors</a> of a <em>Silent Hill</em> remake for the Wii and PSP. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) recently posted a '15' rating for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/silent-hill"><em>Silent Hill</em></a>, with a listing that contains an interesting breakdown of scenes from the game with titles like "ANKH ROOM" and "CYBIL'S DEATH." <br /><br />Last month's rumor laid dev duties at the feet of <em>Silent Hill: Origins</em> creator Climax, though Konami has yet to make anything official. We're trying to reach either Konami or Climax for comment ... but the lines are cut, and there's an unsettling noise coming from behind the door.<br /><br />Of course, this could just as well be a PSN re-release. And yes, we'll take one of those too.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kotaku.com/5167122/silent-hill-gets-re+rated-wii+make-announcement-coming-soon">Kotaku</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/10/rumorang-bbfc-rates-possible-silent-hill-remake/">Rumorang: BBFC rates 'Silent Hill'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 10 Mar 2009 09:10:00 EST. The rumor mill has been spinning off its axis since Capcom project manager Matt Dahlgren told us that Wii-owning <em>Resident Evil</em> fans will be "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/06/wiis-resident-evil-fans-will-be-very-happy-very-soon-says-ca/">very happy, very soon</a>," inciting feverish speculation on what project will instill said happiness. <a href="http://www.gamefocus.ca/?nav=article&amp;did=391">Game Focus' recent interview with Dahlgren</a> might put said speculation to rest -- according to him, fans of <em>Resident Evil Code: Veronica </em>should pay close attention on March 12 for "news you should be very pleased with."<br /><br />The date that the <em>pleasing announcement</em> will apparently be made coincides with Capcom's San Francisco launch event for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Resident%20Evil%205">Resident Evil 5</a></em>,<em> </em>a perfect opportunity for the unveiling of a new project -- but is an updated Wii version of <em>Veronica</em> the project everyone was hoping for? To tell the truth, we were holding out hope for a <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil:_Survivor">Resident Evil: Survivor</a> </em>remake. Our good friends at the rumor mill are at it again, this time churning out a most delicious prospect: <a href="http://www.vg247.com/2009/02/26/rumour-climax-working-on-silent-hill-remake-for-wii/">a <em>Silent Hill </em>remake for the Wii and PSP</a>. Supposedly under development at Climax, a report suggests that the return trip to <em>Silent Hill</em> is one of two Konami projects at the studio, the other being (according to <a href="http://www.climaxgroup.com/jobs/jobs.aspx?ArticleID=996&amp;Studio=Portsmouth">job listings</a>) a "ground breaking next-gen game for the PS3 and the Xbox 360."<br /><br />We've asked Konami and Climax for comment and we'll be sure to update you as soon as we receive a response.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/26/rumor-climax-developing-silent-hill-remake-for-wii-psp/">Rumor: Climax developing Silent Hill remake for Wii, PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 26 Feb 2009 10:24:00 EST. Sega may be soon walking onto the court with an extra spring in its step, as <a href="http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/confirmed-sega-s-virtua-tennis-uses-wii-motionplus-532089">TechRadar UK</a> reports that the recently announced <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/14/virtua-tennis-2009-also-coming-to-wii/">Wii version of <em>Virtua Tennis 2009</em></a> will ship with support for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Wii-MotionPlus/">WiiMotion Plus</a>. Citing an anonymous source, the site writes that the game will be among the first third-party titles to support the new controller tech, which promises to boost the Wii remote's sensitivity to motion. We remain interested in seeing what developers do with WiiMotion Plus once it's introduced, though <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/sega">Sega</a> has yet to announce any plans for supporting the souped-up controls when <em>Virtua Tennis</em> hits a backspin for retail in May.<br /><br />As an aside, the rumor comes just as '80s tennis crybaby John McEnroe celebrates surviving half a century, his ball striking the white line of the Wii's target demographic. If any extra-sensitive waggle does make its way into <em>Virtua Tennis 2009</em>, we advise keeping your distance should McEnroe stop by for a quick <strike>tantrum</strike> game of doubles.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/16/rumor-virtua-tennis-2009-for-wii-to-support-wiimotion-plus/">Rumor: Virtua Tennis 2009 for Wii to support WiiMotion Plus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 12:10:00 EST. <div align="left">A video posted on YouTube purportedly shows gameplay from an alpha version of <em>Star Wars Battlefront III</em>. Slipped in among the various topics covered in IGN's latest <a href="http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/944/944125p1.html">Nintendo Voice Chat podcast</a> was an interesting little rumor: a "major online title" coming to Wii in 2009 won't require Friend Codes. How? Evidently the developer simply realized it could pull it off -- and, like most gamers, doesn't care for the restrictive system.<br /><br />Speculation as to what game IGN was referencing (which, according to the site, has already been announced) quickly brought up <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-conduit"><em>The Conduit</em></a>, the upcoming FPS from High Voltage Software and Sega. Joystiq has confirmed via a source familiar with the title's development that it does, in fact, utilize the Friend Code system, and isn't the game in question. So, what is it then? Let the speculation commence. <br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n-europe.com/news.php?nid=12773">N-Europe</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/13/rumor-major-online-wii-game-ditching-friend-codes/">Rumor: 'Major' online Wii game ditching Friend Codes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Jan 2009 19:30:00 EST. If you feel like a bit of <em>light reading</em>, you might want to turn your attention to <a href="http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;co1=AND&amp;d=PG01&amp;s1=Nintendo.AS.&amp;OS=AN/Nintendo&amp;RS=AN/Nintendo">a patent recently filed by one Shigeru Miyamoto</a> for a "computer-readable storage medium." Sounds <em>thrilling</em>, right? However, the "medium" in question isn't what has had speculators buzzing for the past 24 hours -- the game which is referenced in the patent as an example for how the medium will be implemented is mysteriously titled <em>Legend of OO</em>. We wouldn't blame you for jumping to pointy-eared, Hylian conclusions.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348177">NeoGAF's</a> and <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=205631">CVG's analysis</a> of the uber-verbose patent ultimately points to a handful of gameplay features that would make the next <em>Zelda </em>title more casual audience-friendly. These include hint videos which would be embedded into the game, which would unlock when the player gets stuck on a particular puzzle for a set amount of time; a "digest" mode which would show the game's important cinematics and gameplay sequences, giving the player the opportunity to take control of the game at any point; and a "scene menu" which would let the player choose exactly where to jump into the story.<br /><br />This speculation is supported by Miyamoto's <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163455">expressed wishes to make future Wii <em>Zelda</em> titles more accessible</a> to a broader audience (this sentiment seems echoed in the patent itself) -- but keep in mind that Nintendo doesn't always cash in on every patent it owns. Also, the <em>Legend of OO</em> title described in the patent could just have been an example, not an actual game in development. Even if it is, we can't be certain that <em>OO</em> doesn't stand for, like, <em>Nintendogs</em> or something.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/10/rumor-patent-hints-at-casual-zelda-title/">Rumor: Patent hints at casual Zelda title</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 17:30:00 EST. What's Santa putting in developer stockings this year? <em>Unemployment</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/free-radical">apparently</a>. Following earlier rumors of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/16/rumor-factor-5-cuts-37-jobs/">50-percent cut in staff</a> at Factor 5, internet murmuring now suggests that the <em>Lair</em> and <em>Rogue Squadron</em> developer has closed its doors completely. According to an alleged <a href="http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_general_board/b8263/175069162/p1/">forum post</a> by IGN's Matt Casamassina, which in turn cites an "inside source," today marked the end of Factor 5's operations. It seems the infamous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/brash">Brash</a> bailout had more severe repercussions than we <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/08/factor-5-dev-blogs-about-canceled-title-later-deletes-post/">previously suspected</a>.<br /><br />Joystiq has contacted relevant parties in order to obtain more concrete information -- as well as more concrete. With all these depressing stories, we're going to need a dam to hold all these tears.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=14082608&amp;postcount=220">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/22/rumor-factor-5-shuts-down/">Rumor: Factor 5 shuts down</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Dec 2008 15:00:00 EST. Another day, another hint at <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/littlebigplanet">LittleBigPlanet</a> </em>coming to PSP. The latest rumor mongering comes from <em>EGM</em> (via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=341881">NeoGAF</a>), whose December issue suggests a PSP version will debut in 2009 -- supposedly, it'll be "fantastically ambitious and will further flesh out the PS3 LBP experience." What it won't have, it seems, is Media Molecule at the helm, as the developer is rumored to be working on an online RPG (in addition to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/27/littlebigplanet-sequel-underway-as-first-game-is-powered-on/"><em>LBP </em>sequel</a>?). <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/08/rumor-littlebigplanet-coming-to-the-psp/">Previous mutterings</a> pointed the finger at Sony's Studio Liverpool (<em>WipEout Pulse</em>) being the developer.<br /><br />Other juicy gossip from the 'zine: Square Enix has quietly canceled <em>Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers</em> (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/gdc08-square-enix-no-comments-ffcc-crystal-bearers/">gasp!</a>), Capcom is bringing 1980s side-scrolling shooter <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forgotten_Worlds"><em>Forgotten Worlds</em></a> to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/09/1942-joint-strike-set-to-deploy-7-23-to-xbla-7-24-to-psn/">more</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/bionic-commando-rearmed-scores-super-first-week-sales/">gasps!</a>) and Silicon Knight's unannounced Sega title is now looking for a new publisher. December's <em>EGM</em> should soon be on newsstands everywhere.<strong> Update: </strong>As noted in the comments section (thanks ... <em>Fer-nan-do</em>), Square Enix has <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=62949">released a statement</a> denying the cancellation of <em>Crystal Bearer</em>. The publisher "has every intention of releasing it" but no date is currently known.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/rumor-roundup-littlebigplanet-psp-in-2009-and-more-from-decembe/">Rumor Roundup: LittleBigPlanet PSP in 2009 and more from December's EGM </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 14:00:00 EST. Now that we've all recovered from Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/nintendo-will-publish-the-conduit/">first-party / first-person</a> gaffe, we've received word that <em>The Conduit</em> may have found a spiky blue publisher. First off, the facts: developer High Voltage has told <a href="http://wii.ign.com/articles/924/924728p1.html">IGN</a> that it has "decided on" a publisher for its space-themed first-person shooter for the Wii and that it will be revealed before the end of the week.<br /><br />As to whom it might be, IGN also notes that Sega has recently hosted a folder labeled "The Conduit" on its <a href="ftp://segapr.segaamerica.com/">public FTP site</a> (it has since been removed). While that seems like a pretty incriminating clue, we remain doubtful until we see an official press release. Fortunately, we don't have to wait much longer.

<div align="left">Could Red Five be standing by for an assault on the <strike>Death Star</strike> Wii? The latest issue of <em>EGM </em>contains a rumor that LucasArts has licensed out its <em>Rogue Squadron </em>games - the orignal N64 title plus <em>Rogue Leader </em>and <em>Rebel Strike </em>for GCN - to an unnamed publisher that is updating their visuals and control schemes for Wii as we speak.<br /><br />The rumor also goes that all three games will be released together as a compilation. With Nintendo's recent announcement of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-to-be-remade-on-wii-first-of-gamecube-masterpiece-seri/">"Play on Wii" series</a> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-remake-launches-dec-25-in-japan-nintendo-unveils-more-p/">waggle-infused GCN remakes</a>, added to the fact that the series was a console-exclusive for the company, we have to wonder if the mystery publisher might be the Big N itself.</div>

So, get this: Nintendo, having had pretty incredible success with the Wii, is going to make another one! We know, it sounds crazy ... but so did the idea that we'd still be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/25/wii-shortages-may-continue-into-2009-says-time-traveling-analys/">having trouble finding Wiis into 2009</a>. Despite our fears that Nintendo will continue trickling Wiis out the door until 2027 - at which point it'll finally offer a second, soon-to-be sold-out color offering - former 1UP editorial director John Davison says that "Nintendo is currently showing early presentations of its next home console hardware" (according to "multiple sources in the game development and publishing community" that is!). <br /><br />So what's Wii 2 (Super Wii? Wii Advance?) got? According to Davison, the few that have seen this mythical beast have dubbed it "Wii HD" - it's got HD visuals (duh), "a greater emphasis on digitally distributed and backwardly compatible content," as well as a familiar "emphasis" on what's in your hand instead of what's next to your futuristic HOLO-TV. With R&amp;D spending at the Big N tripling since the Wii launched in 2006, we're not certain that's just a plain-old-Wiimote anymore. Our best guess now: a HOLO-ARM.<br />

Every year (well, at least since being banned from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/e3/">E3</a>) the grand minions of GameStop Corp. descend upon the dessert oasis that is Las Vegas, Nevada -- with a Capital X -- to become better informed about their retail products, so as to make professional recommendations to their far less knowledgeable customer base. With a few cleverly placed posers, 1UP has infiltrated the sore-thumbed masses of regional managers who have traveled great distances to earn bragging rights over the adolescents who, in turn, loiter inside their finely vacuumed establishments. Finally, some payoff for another hard year of underachievement (remember kids, these are just rumors):<br />

    <li>60 GB Xbox 360 hard drive will be $99 with 3 months of Xbox Live and an ethernet cable; or 12 months of Xbox Live for $70 and a copy of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pgr4"><em>PGR4</em></a>. Decisions, decisions...</li>

(And after this, Nintendo will be done with peripherals. Promise. *Crosses fingers behind back.*)<br /></li>
    <li>GBA's <em>Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories</em> will get a surprise port to ... (wait for it) ... PS2! [Update: As several commenters point out, a <em>Chain of Memories </em><strike>port</strike> remake has been available in Japan since March 2007.] </li>

If a post on <a href="http://theangrypixel.com/blog/2008/09/09/wii-ds-officially-arriving-in-india-on-30th-sep-08/">The Angry Pixel</a> is to be believed, the not-infinitesimal number of people in India are about to be swept into the wonderful world of waggle, with the Wii rearing its slender head in the country on September 30th. Joining it will be Nintendo's touchy-feely portable system, the DS, which has astonishingly managed to avoid the birthplace of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdyC1BrQd6g">bun-eating sensation Benny Lava</a> all this time. <br /><br />Nintendo's pair will allegedly be distributed by Samurai-India, in partnership with HCL, with the DS fetching a price of INR 7,990 ($178) and the Wii going for a lofty INR 19,990 ($445). The Force which compels LucasArts to concoct more ways to utilize the Wiimote for lightsaber gameplay will be with it ... always. According to the latest EGM rumor section, "Quartermann" brings unconfirmed word that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/star-wars"><em>Star Wars</em></a> factory is looking to follow up its Wii version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-force-unleashed"><em>The Force Unleashed</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/lucasarts-confirms-star-wars-the-clone-wars-games-for-ds-wii/"><em>The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels</em></a> with yet another lightsaber-centric game, this one utilizing Nintendo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/nintendo-unveils-wii-motionplus-accessory-for-unmatched-precisi/">Wii MotionPlus accessory</a>.<br /><br />You may recall that LucasArts was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/lucasarts-kept-in-the-dark-side-on-wii-motionplus/">one of, well, pretty much every Wii third-party</a> left feeling a bit ... seventieth-party by Nintendo's choice to unveil MotionPlus to them <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/wii-third-parties-nonplussed-by-surprise-motionplus-reveal/">on the same day as the public</a>. According to the Q-man, now that the company has access to the tech for development purposes, it wants to make the bestest lightsaber game ever. Might we suggest it be called:<em> Star Wars: Lightsaber Duels - This Time It's Not All Spazzy, Really!</em><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/08/27/rumor-a-third-wii-lightsaber-game-with-motionplus-this-time/">NWF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/27/rumor-lucasarts-planning-wii-motionplus-lightsaber-game/">Rumor: LucasArts planning Wii MotionPlus lightsaber game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Aug 2008 21:30:00 EST.
