The upcoming console/PC iteration of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/resident-evil-revelations"><em>Resident Evil: Revelations</em></a> will include a trio of confusing new costumes for Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Keith Lumley, Capcom has <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2013/05/14/pirate-jill-and-chris-ninja-keith-costumes-unlockable-in-revelations">announced</a>. As can be seen in the gallery, Jill and Chris both sport equally leggy nautical-themed outfits, while Keith channels his inner <a href="http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Roronoa_Zoro">One Piece character</a> as a shirtless sword-guy in hammer pants.<br />
<br />
Costumes are unlocked by playing through the game's Campaign and Raid modes, in addition to "other unlocking mechanisms" that Capcom is keeping a secret. We're just hoping Capcom eventually rides this train of thought all the way to its logical extreme: Pretty Soldier Sailor Claire Redfield.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/">Resident Evil: Revelations (New costumes)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/#5889664"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/976924587353061285585720603118o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/#5889662"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/96490858813059787449856113012o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/resident-evil-revelations-new-costumes/#5889663"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/9198585873530712855841241595201o_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/18/resident-evil-revelations-adds-pirate-jill-sailor-chris-ninja/">Resident Evil: Revelations adds Pirate Jill, Sailor Chris, Ninja Keith</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 18 May 2013 18:00:00 EST. Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Business Chief of Staff <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/aaron-greenberg/">Aaron Greenberg</a> recently stopped by <a href="http://majornelson.com/cast/2013/05/17/show-476-video-gaming-industry-numbers-and-star-trek-into-darkness/">the Major Nelson podcast</a> to discuss <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/xbox-reveal-may-21/">next week's Xbox reveal event</a> and how Microsoft will show its "vision for the future of games."<br />
<br />
"We're really going to tell one story across two events. So we're going to start on the 21st and really that's about revealing the next Xbox platform, really our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned." Greenberg then specifically called out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/call-of-duty-ghosts"><em>Call of Duty: Ghosts</em></a>, which will have its next-generation engine demoed during the Microsoft event.<br />
<br />
"People are going to get a great inside look at really the making of the new platform and the team that's brought it to life," Greenberg added. "I mean, to be honest it's really about the team, the people here. That's why we're inviting people to campus, we're going to bring them behind the scenes a little bit. We've never done this before and so it's really exciting to be able to do that. But I think it's a lot of laying the foundation - probably the best way to describe it - and then just a couple of weeks later we go to E3."<br />
<br />
Greenberg concluded that more will be shown at E3 and after, leading into this holiday season. "E3 is all about the games. At E3, I mean, if you're a gamer, it's going to be tons of exclusives, world premieres and obviously even beyond that we have a lot to share between then and this holiday."<br />
<br />
The Xbox event takes place on May 21 at Microsoft's Redmond campus, located in Washington state. Join Joystiq in the streets of Neo-Paris <em>and</em> the intricate pathways of the mind in this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/remember-me"><em>Remember Me</em></a> video preview. Dontnod's memory-focused action game features strategic battle jeans, "remembrane buoys" and even more dubiously named plot devices, if you can believe it.<br />
<br />
 <em>Remember Me</em> launches for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on June 4.

Kevin Flynn, who's worked for the last two years as a senior product manager for EA's UK arm, has left to join Activision's UK side as a senior brand manager on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty">Call of Duty</a>. Flynn's previous efforts for EA include <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/31/battlefield-3-secures-top-of-uk-charts/">launching <em>Battlefield 3</em></a> and its subsequent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Battlefield-Premium/">Premium DLC campaigns</a> in the region.<br />
<br />
Flynn enlisted with the Call of Duty<em> </em>squad this month, which we imagine must be <em>the busiest</em> time to sign on for an Activision paycheck. The results are in, and fans have voted to make Beowolf the fourth new character in Lab Zero Games' little fighter that could, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skullgirls"><em>Skullgirls</em></a>. An ex pro wrestler, Beowolf and his trusty folding chair (named The Hurting, naturally) have come out of retirement in order to test the true limits of his strength. Being a wrestler and everything, Beowolf's playstyle has been influence by Street Fighter's <a href="http://streetfighter.wikia.com/wiki/R._Mika">Rainbow Mika</a> and <a href="http://streetfighter.wikia.com/wiki/El_Fuerte">El Fuerte</a>, as well as Tekken's <a href="http://tekken.wikia.com/wiki/King">King</a>.<br />
<br />
Beowolf is the fourth new character to be funded by Lab Zero's wildly successful Indiegogo campaign, which raised over $800,000 for DLC production back in March. Three other characters, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/28/skullgirls-reveals-third-crowd-funded-dlc-character-eliza/">Eliza</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/26/skullgirls-150-000-indiegogo-goal-met-in-less-than-24-hours/">Squigly</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/14/skullgirls-secures-funding-for-second-dlc-character-big-band/">Big Band</a>, are also currently in development. Squigly is expected to be the first released, dropping alongside the PC version of the game sometime this summer.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/skullgirls-fourth-new-character-is-beowolf/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Skullgirls' fourth new character is Beowolf</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/skullgirls-fourth-new-character-is-beowolf/">Skullgirls' fourth new character is Beowolf</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 14:45:00 EST. Since <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/madden-nfl-25"><em>Madden NFL 25</em></a> <s>skipped 12 years</s> is named to commemorate the series' 25th anniversary, it shouldn't be surprising that EA Sports recently unveiled a special Anniversary Edition. What is a little surprising are the contents of the special edition, which includes a free one-year subscription for DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket service, allowing fans to watch every out-of-market NFL game throughout the season.<br />
<br />
EA Sports tells us that the subscription is limited to the NFL Sunday Ticket computer, tablet and mobile service. Additionally, those who are able to receive DirecTV service in their area can get $10 off per month for the service, which starts at $225, as well as a free subscription to the higher-tier NFL Sunday Ticket MAX.<br />
<br />
The Anniversary Edition of <em>Madden 25</em> is exclusive to Amazon, and limited to 50,000 copies on each of the game's platforms, Xbox 360 and PS3 (100,000 copies total). It will also include complimentary Madden Ultimate Team card packs every week of the NFL's 17-week regular season. <em>Madden 25</em>'s Anniversary Edition is available to pre-order now on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Madden-NFL-25-Xbox-360/dp/B00AY1CT4U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1368810093&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=madden+nfl+25">Amazon</a> for $99.99.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/limited-amazon-exclusive-madden-25-special-edition-includes-free/">Limited Amazon-exclusive Madden 25 special edition includes free Sunday Ticket subscription</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 13:21:00 EST. In what appears to be a modern take on late-80s arcade game <em>Narc</em>, Deep Silver's <em>Narco Terror</em> is a twin-stick blast-everything shooter of one man (or two in local or online co-op) versus the cartels. The game is listed for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/twin-stick-shooter-narco-terror-smokes-some-fools-this-summer/">Twin-stick shooter 'Narco Terror' smokes some fools this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 09:00:00 EST. Epic lays down <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/gears-of-war-judgment">Gears of War: Judgment</a> </em>with new multiplayer DLC in June. The 'Lost Relics' pack a new gametype and four further maps, including the return of 'Checkout' from Gears of War 3. Also bundled in are new armor and weapon skins.<br />
<br />
The gametype is called Breakthrough. It features one team trying to get a flag from A to B, and another trying to stop them. The attacking team has a limited pool of lives, while the defensive team has unlimited resources. Sounds like the attacking team's has their work cut out.<br />
<br />
You can peruse layouts of the four maps - that's Checkout, Lost City, Museum, and Ward (for OverRun) - in the gallery just below these words. More details are due in the coming weeks. Finally, in case you missed it, <em>Judgment</em> received a free OverRun map <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/10/gears-of-war-judgment-gets-free-overrun-map-may-15/">earlier this week</a>. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/">Gears of War: Judgment (Lost Relics maps)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887497"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/checkoutmap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887499"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/lostcitymap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887500"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/museummap_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/gears-of-war-judgment-lost-relics-maps/#5887501"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/wardmapwithobjectives_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/gears-of-war-judgment-gets-lost-relics-multiplayer-dlc-next-m/">Gears of War: Judgment gets 'Lost Relics' multiplayer DLC next month</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 07:30:00 EST. Gaming hardware manufacturer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/razer/">Razer</a> has wrapped up the beta testing phase for its long-in-development <a href="http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-controllers/razer-atrox">Razer Atrox Arcade Stick</a> for the Xbox 360, and will begin accepting pre-orders next week.<br />
<br />
We had a look at a prototype version of Razer's controller at TGS <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/video-hands-on-with-the-razer-arcade-stick/">way back in 2011</a>, where the concept made a strong showing. Razer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/15/razer-building-xbox-360-arcade-stick-with-help-from-people-who/">previously announced</a> that it would be working closely with the fighting game community throughout the Atrox's development, and the finished product will ship with tournament-grade Sanwa buttons and multiple interchangeable ball-top and bat-top sticks.<br />
<br />
Razer has developed the Atrox with modding in mind; the hatch-like surface can be opened with a button press, allowing for easy maintenance and design customization. Once opened, the Atrox boasts a spacious interior with compartments for replacement parts, tools, and the fat wads of cash you'll pick up from underground <i>Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3</i> money matches.<br />
<br />
Atrox pre-orders will open at Razer's website on May 21. The Atrox will retail for $200.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/17/razers-atrox-arcade-stick-still-exists-pre-orders-open-may-21/">Razer's Atrox arcade stick still exists, pre-orders open May 21</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 17 May 2013 01:00:00 EST. Another hot, fresh loaf of financial data has been pulled out of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/npd">The NPD Group</a>'s analytical oven, and its buttery goodness contains sales information for the four week period between April 4 and May 7, 2013. During that time, the physical retail sector of the games industry was down 25 percent when compared with its performance over the same four weeks in 2012, pulling in a grand total of $495.2 million. It's worth noting, however, that this figure does <em>not</em> include the sale of PC games.<br />
<br />
Hardware sales brought in $109.5 million, a 42 percent decrease from the $187.8 million seen last year, with the Xbox 360 once again enjoying the highest sales with 130,000 units moved. Meanwhile, the brief reprieve from year-over-year decline seen by the Accessories segment last month was short lived, as in April it by dropped 19 percent to a total of $131.4 million.<br />

<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/deep-silver">Deep Silver</a> will publish an upcoming gesture-based racing game for Kinect called <em>Freefall Racers</em>. The first breadcrumb in this trail comes from <a href="http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/View.aspx?sid=ktuK3Q%252f2QcfYHeXPBc6J7Q%253d%253d&amp;ncdctx=GsSXRyRdlMKxfsSXybcacyD%252f%2bfCoWxIAgqp83IFWjn1qawLmVA0tWHsHBG9lWpXU">an Australian rating</a> that has surfaced, outing Deep Silver as publisher.<br />
<br />
The developer is Smoking Gun Interactive, whose <a href="http://www.smokingguninc.com/products/recent-releases/">most recent</a> work includes two Kinect experiences, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/17/get-your-kinect-to-mars/"><em>Mars Rover Landing</em></a> and <em>Home Run Stars</em>, so a new Kinect project would make sense. The Vancouver-based studio at least partly funded <em>Freefall Racers</em> with help from the Canadian government, as evidenced by the $461,243 contributed <a href="http://www.cmf-fmc.ca/documents/files/funded/2011-12/results/2011-12-q4-funding-results.pdf">through the Canada Media Fund</a> (PDF) last year.<br />
<br />
Our first glimpse of the game is courtesy of environmental artist Anthony Leonati, who <s>published six screens from <em>Freefall Racers</em> on his personal website.</s> [<strong>Update:</strong> The images have been pulled from Leonati's website.] In addition to the screens, he also pegs <em>Freefall Racers</em> for Xbox Live Arcade, though his LinkedIn profile indicates he has since moved on from Smoking Gun to become a senior environment artist at EA.<br />
<br />
We've followed up with Deep Silver and Smoking Gun Interactive for comment and will update this post accordingly.<br />

Hey, remember that bundle of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Son">Red Son</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/injustice-gods-among-us"><em>Injustice: Gods Among Us</em></a> DLC that GameStop had as an exclusive pre-order bonus? In a fitting turn of events, said bundle will no longer be the privileged purview of the bourgeois and will instead be available to the sweaty, overworked proletariat masses as of next Tuesday.<br />
<br />
No word yet on how much the DLC will cost, or whether it includes the pre-order's 20 bonus challenge missions in addition to the costumes seen above. The game's official twitter account has also asked which other characters from Red Son we'd like to see; we think the answer <a href="http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Batman_(Earth-30)">should be obvious</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/injustice-gods-among-us-red-son-pre-order-dlc-available-to-all/">Injustice: Gods Among Us' Red Son pre-order DLC available to all next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 15:00:00 EST. <br />
British publisher/developer System 3 has announced an enhanced remake of its blue-blob-based action platformer <em>Putty Squad</em>, available sometime this summer on Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 3, Vita, 3DS and Windows 8.<br />
<br />
The original <em>Putty Squad</em> was initially released on Super NES back in 1994, as a sequel to 1992's <em>Putty</em> for the Amiga. A demo was also released for Amiga and DOS systems, but the full game never dropped for either of those platforms. This new version, beyond offering obvious graphical improvements, will also include free downloadable levels and "location-based services used for extra content."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/putty-squad-bounces-onto-pretty-much-everything-this-summer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Putty Squad bounces onto pretty much everything this summer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/putty-squad-bounces-onto-pretty-much-everything-this-summer/">Putty Squad bounces onto pretty much everything this summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 13:00:00 EST. "Shit gets really weird" in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fuse"><em>Fuse</em></a>. Not our words, but those of Overstrike 9's Dalton Brooks. Still, would be a great tagline for <em>Fuse</em>, or any game for that matter. Oh well, Insomniac's <em>Fuse</em> will have to make do without when it launches on May 28 for PS3 and Xbox 360. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-launch/">Fuse (Launch)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-launch/#5884728"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/fuse01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-launch/#5884730"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/fuse02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-launch/#5884731"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/fuse03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-launch/#5884732"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/fuse04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/fuse-launch/#5884733"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/fuse05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/fuse-ignites-launch-trailer-new-screens/">Fuse ignites launch trailer, new screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 12:30:00 EST. This <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/batman-arkham-origins">Batman: Arkham Origins</a></em> tease features no gameplay, no real concept of how the game will differ from the excellent <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/batman-arkham-asylum">Arkham Asylum</a></em> and <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/batman-arkham-city">Arkham City</a></em>. A new achievements listing suggests <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/crysis-3"><em>Crysis 3</em></a> is suiting up for multiplayer DLC. Posted on the typically reliable <a href="http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/crysis-3/achievements/">Xbox 360 Achievements</a>, the listing indicates a 250G pack featuring four maps called Creek, Crossing, Ascent, and Coastline, and two modes called Frenzy and Team Possession. The mention of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTduy7Qkvk8">a flag</a> points to Team Possession being a CTF variant.<br />

The DLC apparently also has a new weapon: the boat oar. We mainly wanted to mention it because the associated achievement is called '<a href="http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mbiqec1JUw1ri1mxoo1_400.gif">Totally Oarsome.' </a><br />
<br />
EA hasn't announced any upcoming DLC for Crysis 3, although developer Crytek previously indicated it had <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/391874/crytek-has-big-plans-for-crysis-3-dlc/">"big plans"</a> for post-launch content. We've reached out to EA for more info.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/16/crysis-3-multiplayer-dlc-emerges-via-achievements-listing/">Crysis 3 multiplayer DLC emerges via achievements listing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 May 2013 08:00:00 EST. GameStop expects Undead Labs' zombie-packed Xbox Live Arcade survival horror game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/state-of-decay"><i>State of Decay</i></a> to launch on June 5, according to a product listing obtained by <a href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/13/state-of-decay-tmnt-duck-tales-dates-revealed">IGN</a>.<br />
<br />
The retailer lists <i>State of Decay</i> at 1,600 Microsoft points ($20), putting it in the same premium price range as big-name XBLA releases like <i>The Walking Dead</i> and <i>Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition</i>. Developer Undead Labs has not officially announced a price for <i>State of Decay</i>, and only divulged a nebulous "June" release date when a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/13/state-of-decay-gets-new-trailer-coming-to-xbla-in-june/">trailer</a> launched last month.<br />
<br />
Undead Labs community director Sanya Weathers <a href="http://undeadlabs.com/forums/showthread.php?14795-State-of-Decay-Release-Data-Price-Revealed-%28from-IGN%29&amp;p=112052&amp;viewfull=1#post112052">notes</a> in a forum post that June 5 is the developer's launch goal, but a final release date has not been determined. "We have not completed certification," she explains. EA has announced it will discontinue its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/online-pass,ea">Online Pass</a> program. "Yes, we're discontinuing Online Pass," EA's senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg told <a href="http://venturebeat.com/2013/05/15/ea-kills-its-controversial-online-pass-program/">GamesBeat</a> in an e-mail. "None of our new EA titles will include that feature."<br />
<br />
Reseburg added that "many players didn't respond to the format," despite EA going on record months after instituting Online Passes, reporting it had not seen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/15/ea-hasnt-seen-significant-backlash-to-online-pass/">a "significant" backlash</a>. "We've listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward."<br />
<br />
The Online Pass, a one-time use code required for online play, was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/10/ea-introduces-one-time-use-online-pass-for-sports-games/">first introduced</a> in 2010 with the intent of being exclusive to EA Sports games, though it quickly escalated from there. Online Pass revenue <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/ea-has-made-10-15-million-off-online-pass/">generated between $10-$15 million for EA</a> in its first year alone.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ea-online-pass-ends/">EA puts an end to its Online Pass program</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 20:14:00 EST. While we learned <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/03/ncaa-14-to-include-physics-engine-improved-running-game/">in April</a> that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ncaa-football-14"><em>NCAA Football 14</em></a> will include its own Ultimate Team mode this year, EA Sports announced details on how it will operate today. The mode will include more than 1,400 former college football players at the game's launch, as well as both solo and special head-to-head challenges. Ultimate Team is the long-running mode that spans most of EA Sports' properties, which combines standard on-field gameplay with a card-collecting system for building and managing your team.<br />
<br />
<em>NCAA 14</em>'s version of Ultimate Team will also include a head-to-head season mode, in which players match up against one another with their specially crafted teams in a 10-game season, before entering an end-of-the-season tournament. Players can earn rewards along the way for toppling challenges that increase in difficulty, such as coins for procuring more card packs.<br />
<br />
The game will receive similar treatment in the mode that other EA Sports games got in the past, with challenges and card collections being added throughout the real-life football season. <em>NCAA 14</em> is slated to launch July 9 on PS3 and Xbox 360.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ncaa-14s-ultimate-team-mode-to-include-season-tournaments-form/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NCAA 14's Ultimate Team mode to include season tournaments, former greats</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ncaa-14s-ultimate-team-mode-to-include-season-tournaments-form/">NCAA 14's Ultimate Team mode to include season tournaments, former greats</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 17:00:00 EST. Former THQ president Jason Rubin has spoken about the struggles <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metro-last-light"><em>Metro: Last Light</em></a> developer 4A Games went through to get its game to launch. In a post on <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-05-15-jason-rubin-metro-last-light-is-the-triumph-of-an-underdog">GamesIndustry International</a>, Rubin extolled the efforts of the Ukrainian studio, citing a relatively meager budget, cramped working conditions, and extreme logistical troubles as major adversities.<br />
<br />
According to Rubin, the game's development budget was "less than some of its competitors spend on cut scenes, a mere 10 percent of the budget of its biggest competitors." That budget apparently didn't extend to swanky office equipment, with 4A's staff sat "elbow to elbow" at card tables and on folding chairs. Upon seeing 4A Games in person, Rubin wrote, he wanted to buy them proper office chairs, but the logistics were something else.<br />
<br />
"When 4A needed another dev kit, or high-end PC, or whatever," Rubin wrote, "Someone from 4A had to fly to the States and sneak it back to the Ukraine in a backpack lest it be 'seized' at the border by thieving customs officials. After visiting the team I wanted to buy them Aeron office chairs, considered a fundamental human right in the west. There were no outlets in the Ukraine, and our only option was to pack a truck in Poland and try to find an 'expediter' to help bribe its way down to Kiev."<br />
<br />
In the end, the offices were too cramped for the wider Aeron chairs anyway.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ex-thq-president-rubin-discusses-terrible-metro-working-conditio/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ex-THQ president Rubin discusses cramped Metro working conditions</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ex-thq-president-rubin-discusses-terrible-metro-working-conditio/">Ex-THQ president Rubin discusses cramped Metro working conditions</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 13:30:00 EST. Ubisoft has released its financial information for the 12 month period ending March 31, 2013, which by all accounts seems to have been a pretty legit fiscal year for the publisher/developer conglomerate. The company crossed the finish line with &euro;1.256 billion ($1.615 billion) in revenue and &euro;64.8 million ($83.3 million) in profit, an 18.3 and 73.7-percent year-over-year increase, respectively, when compared to the &euro;1.061 billion ($1.364 billion) in revenue and &euro;37.3 million ($47.9 million) in profit recorded at the end of 2012.<br />

Ubisoft contributes its stellar year to the continued success of its main three franchises, Assassin's Creed, Just Dance and Far Cry, the latest entries in which have all sold between <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/far-cry-3-up-to-6-million-shipped-and-digital-sales/">six and 12 million copies</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/ubisoft-ends-fiscal-2013-with-64-8-million-in-profit/">Ubisoft ends fiscal 2013 with €64.8 million in profit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 12:15:00 EST. Ubisoft has shipped and digitally sold 6 million units of <em>Far Cry 3 </em>since its release late last year. That's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/07/assassins-creed-3-at-more-than-12m-shipped-far-cry-3-over-4-5m/">1.5 million more</a> than the figure reported in Ubi's Q3 report back in February.<br />
<br />
 <em>Assassin's Creed 3</em> sits at 12.5 million shipped and digitally sold (it was at over 12 million back in February), while <em>Just Dance 4</em> is up to 8.5 million shipped.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/far-cry-3-up-to-6-million-shipped-and-digital-sales/">Far Cry 3 up to 6 million shipped, digitally sold</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 12:01:00 EST. I am a monologue trailer. I'm going to say things in a deeper than natural voice. I'm also going to wait ... (wait, no wait some more) before I finish a full sentence. I'm going to tell you how cool I am between quick flashy edits of me stabbing dudes. Yes, I am a protagonist and I'll finish off by saying something supposedly profound.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-monologue-trailer-bends-knee-to-n/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag monologue trailer bends knee to no man</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/15/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-monologue-trailer-bends-knee-to-n/">Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag monologue trailer bends knee to no man</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 May 2013 12:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/pacman-and-the-ghostly-adventures"><em>Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures</em></a> will launch this fall on PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360, with a special side-scrolling version coming to 3DS, Namco Bandai announced. The game takes inspiration from the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac-Man_and_the_Ghostly_Adventures">TV show</a> of the same name, which is slated to begin airing June 17 on Disney XD.<br />
<br />
 <em>Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures</em> features the iconic yellow character in a 3D adventure game in which he turns into a chameleon at some point, using his tongue to reel in ghosts. In the game's announcement trailer, Pac-Man also eats entire vending machines. Healthy choices, kids! <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-announcement/">Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures (Announcement)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-announcement/#5878818"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/chameleonattack_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-announcement/#5878819"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/chameleonattack2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-announcement/#5878820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/chameleonback_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-announcement/#5878821"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/chameleoncloseup_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-announcement/#5878822"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/chameleonside_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-chomps-north-america-this-fal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures chomps North America this fall</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/pac-man-and-the-ghostly-adventures-chomps-north-america-this-fal/">Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures chomps North America this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 23:45:00 EST. Lab Zero Games <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/05/14/skullgirls-color-dlc-today-new-characters-coming/">released</a> a PlayStation Network-exclusive batch of new DLC for its 2D fighter <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skullgirls">Skullgirls</a></em>, giving the game's cast a wider variety of colorful wardrobe options.<br />
<br />
 <i>Skullgirls</i>' eight color packs grant access to five additional color schemes per character, and are priced at $0.99 each. Players can also grab all 40 alternate outfits by purchasing a $5 bundle.<br />
<br />
Owners of the Xbox Live Arcade edition will have to wait until <a href="https://twitter.com/Skullgirls/status/334396174658322432">a later date</a> to explore this new world of color coordination. Starting today, however, XBLA players now have access to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/09/skullgirls-xbla-patch-in-limbo-due-to-file-size/">long-delayed</a> balance patch. The newly released "required compatibility update," which is available as a hefty 273 MB download, fixes regional online play and improves GGPO performance, among many other character-specific tweaks. Andy Schatz took some time off from thievery in his recent release, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/monaco"><em>Monaco</em></a>, and sat down with the fine people of <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1e2qq0/i_am_steamconquering_andy_schatz_and_he_is/">Reddit</a> to answer all of the questions they threw at him, such as, "Which features didn't make it into the game?"<br />
<br />
"Cops and Robbers, and Thief vs Thief," Schatz <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1e2qq0/i_am_steamconquering_andy_schatz_and_he_is/c9w7vjz">replied</a>. "We wanted to add two additional competitive game modes to the game. We got them to playable, but we discovered that for both modes the balance didn't really work within the existing levels."<br />
<br />
Thief vs Thief had players compete in a single stage, to see who could collect the most coins, grab the trophy and get out first - but the player who left the gate first had a huge advantage, sucking up all of the coins, and the mode didn't turn out to be as fun as Schatz had hoped, he said. Cops and Robbers added a police officer to every level, but the early stages were too easy and the later stages too difficult.<br />
<br />
With some tweaks, Schatz said he hoped to bring Cops and Robbers to <em>Monaco </em>"at some point," possibly as DLC.<br />
<br />
 <em>Monaco</em>'s characters evolved along with the gameplay, and Schatz described <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1e2qq0/i_am_steamconquering_andy_schatz_and_he_is/c9w99za">how each of them spawned</a>, early in development: "The Gentleman used to be a hypnotist, The Lookout used to be the Prowler (parkour expert), The Mole used to be The Muscle, The Pickpocket used to be The Rat (could rat out teammates to save himself). The Redhead had a taser or a pistol at one point. The Pickpocket started out as dwarf twins instead of a man with a monkey." <em>Stranger things.</em><br />
<br />
Once <em>Monaco</em>'s final touches were all settled, Schatz said he had an idea to develop a "<em>good</em> console RTS (or at least simple-controls RTS) that is as strategically as deep as the competitive RTSes." First, he has to work on the <em>Monaco</em> level editor, expansions and maybe more ports - he singled out <a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1e2qq0/i_am_steamconquering_andy_schatz_and_he_is/c9w7yk7">Vita and PS4</a>, while Mac and Linux ports are already on the books.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/andy-schatz-lets-slip-scrapped-competitive-modes-for-monaco/">Andy Schatz lets slip scrapped competitive modes for Monaco</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 21:15:00 EST. What <em>time</em> is it?! Well, <em>Adventure Time</em> obviously, but it's also <em>Regular Show </em>time and, most specifically, new games from WayForward time. The house responsible for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/adventure-time-hey-ice-king"><em>Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!!</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ducktales-remastered"><em>Ducktales: Remastered</em></a> has announced that it will be putting out two new games this fall based on what we believe to be Cartoon Network's most hilarious/magical franchises.<br />
<br />
<em>Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I don't know!</em> tasks players with exploring the Secret Royal Dungeon underneath the Candy Kingdom. The game features multiple selectable characters, including Finn, Jake, Marceline "and more," has co-op for up to four players <em>and</em> includes the voices from the show. <em>Adventure Time</em> creator <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendleton_Ward">Pendleton Ward</a> is once again involved in production, though his specific role is unknown. The game will be available on Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and 3DS.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Mordecai and Rigby make their non-iOS gaming debut in <em>Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-Bit Land</em> for the 3DS. As the name suggests, our heroes must survive being transported inside of their favorite games, which sounds about right for an episode of <em>Regular Show</em>. The game is being developed "in close collaboration with show creator <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JG_Quintel">JG Quintel</a>," according to the <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130514005667/en/D3Publisher-Cartoon-Network-Announce-Video-Games-Adventure">press release</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/new-adventure-time-regular-show-games-from-wayforward-this-fall/">New Adventure Time, Regular Show games from WayForward this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 19:45:00 EST. Nintendo's Wii U sold 55,000 units in April, down 19 percent from March, while the Wii sold 75,000 in April, down 16 percent from last year, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter estimates. To compare, he says Microsoft sold 205,000 Xbox 360 units and Sony snagged 165,000 sales of the PlayStation 3 this April. By these numbers, sales of the Xbox 360 are down 13 percent and PS3 sales are down 5 percent year-over-year.<br />
<br />
Nintendo hit 185,000 sales of its 3DS last month, a 46 percent jump in sales from the previous year, Pachter says. Sony's Vita is down 57 percent from 2012, selling just 30,000 units this April. These are of course the standard Pachter estimates, which can only mean one thing - the official numbers are on their way, via the NPD. Those figures are expected on Thursday.<br />
<br />
As of March 31, the Wii U has sold <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/wii-u-shipments-miss-targets-at-3-45m-fy14-forecasts-of-9m/">3.45 million units</a> since its launch, below Nintendo's initial forecast of 5.5 million, and even January's adjustment to 4 million. Nintendo expects to have sold 9 million Wii U consoles by next fiscal year, ending March 2014, with sales spurred by the release of "key Nintendo titles."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/pachter-wii-u-sales-hit-55-000-in-april-20-000-below-wii/">Pachter: Wii U sales hit 55,000 in April, 20,000 below Wii</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 19:00:00 EST. <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/killer-is-dead"><em>Killer is Dead</em></a> will slice up Japanese Xbox 360s and PS3s starting on August 1, according to Japanese site <a href="http://blog.hokanko-alt.com/archives/27974477.html">Hokanko-Alt</a>. The site reports that the info comes courtesy of the latest issue of Dengeki Playstation. The game is also slated to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/killer-is-dead-trailer-features-mondos-girls-eu-pinned-for-aug/">arrive in Europe this August</a>, though the North American launch is still a more nebulous "Summer 2013."<br />
<br />
The latest from Grasshoper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games stars an elite assassin with a robot arm who hunts down and kills criminals. He also <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/17/killer-is-dead-screens-showcase-combat-gigolo-missions/">moonlights as a gigolo</a>, apparently.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/report-killer-is-dead-lives-on-august-1-in-japan/">Report: Killer is Dead lives on August 1 in Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 18:15:00 EST. Konami's third annual pre-E3 show is penciled in for June 6 at 1 p.m. ET, streaming live online via <a href="http://events.konami.com/">Konami's events site</a>, on <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/shows/gamespot-live/?event=konami-pre-e3-show-2013">Gamespot</a> and via the Xbox Live Gamespot app. For the second year in a row, Konami will show off a new trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Castlevania-Lords-of-Shadow-2/"><em>Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2</em></a>, which was announced during <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/01/konami-officially-announces-castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2/">last year's</a> pre-E3 briefing.<br />
<br />
Konami also plans to show off some behind-the-scenes footage of the next Pro Evolution Soccer game, and will have "new announcements" from Kojima Productions. Kojima recently made a splash with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/29/kojima-explains-metal-gear-solid-5s-mogren-fakeout-hayters/">Joakim Mogren</a> marketing campaign for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/metal-gear-solid-5"><em>Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain</em></a>. Surely nothing will be able to compete with <em>that</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/konami-pre-e3-show-gives-the-scoop-on-mgs5-castlevania-on-june/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Konami pre-E3 show gives the scoop on MGS5, Castlevania on June 6</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/konami-pre-e3-show-gives-the-scoop-on-mgs5-castlevania-on-june/">Konami pre-E3 show gives the scoop on MGS5, Castlevania on June 6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 15:15:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/borderlands-2"><em>Borderlands 2</em></a>'s sixth vault hunter, Krieg the Psycho Bandit, is now available across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for $10. Twenty-one randomly selected indie developers walk into a digital room and ponder the question, "Which online distribution system has been the most effective for your games?"<br />
<br />
If this were the set-up to a joke, the punchline would probably be, "Facebook." But for many indie developers, the question of which platform to publish their games on is a very serious one, with potentially dire consequences. Pared down, platform success is all about accessibility, upload and support, and in terms of those factors, there's a clear, unsurprising favorite: Steam.<br />
<br />
But maybe not for long.<br />
<br />
I asked 21 indie developers this question, and while the majority mentioned Steam in the same casual manner that begets an unchallenged king, there were consistent whispers of other platforms doing things well, perhaps even <em>better</em> than Steam, from a backend perspective. One of these platforms was the Humble Store, which received the second-highest number of solid votes and a handful of positive shout-outs.<br />
<br />
"I owe pretty much my entire survival the last few years to iOS, the Humble Store, and to a lesser extent Android and Steam," Adam Saltsman, the creator of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/canabalt"><em>Canabalt</em></a>, said. But iOS ran into some bad censorship issues, Android had discoverability problems and Steam was "obviously" too closed, he said. If Saltsman could choose just one of those platforms to release his next game on, it would be, "Humble Store," hands-down.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/steam-is-king-in-service-wars-humble-store-a-sleeping-giant-in/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Steam is king in service wars, Humble Store a sleeping giant, indies say</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/steam-is-king-in-service-wars-humble-store-a-sleeping-giant-in/">Steam is king in service wars, Humble Store a sleeping giant, indies say</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 13:45:00 EST. By now, you should realize that the latest <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rayman-legends"><em>Rayman Legends</em></a> trailer needs no introduction. You should just watch it. Okay, if you really need further incentive, the spies of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/splinter-cell-blacklist">4th Echelon</a> make a cameo. Sort of.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has also announced the UK pre-order bonuses for the game, exclusive to GAME. The Wii U version will let Barbara the barbarian dress up as Aveline De Grandpr&eacute;, star of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-3-liberation"><em>Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation</em></a>. The PS3 version puts Rayman in the garb of Edward Kenway, piratical protagonist of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/assassins-creed-4-black-flag"><em>Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag</em></a>. Finally, speaking of 4th Echelon, the Xbox 360 version gives Rayman a Sam Fisher costume.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>It's the same deal for US pre-orders, but at GameStop. Check out the various costumes after the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-legends-ocean-world/">Rayman Legends (Ocean World)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-legends-ocean-world/#5878804"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/rl20000lumsunderthemissileattack_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-legends-ocean-world/#5878805"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/rl20000lumsunderthesea_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-legends-ocean-world/#5878806"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/rl20000lumsunderthesealaserattack_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/rayman-legends-ocean-world/#5878807"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/05/rl20000lumsundertheseashark_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/rayman-legends-visits-ocean-world-uk-pre-order-goodies-reveal/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rayman Legends visits 'Ocean World,' UK pre-order goodies revealed [update: NA too]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/rayman-legends-visits-ocean-world-uk-pre-order-goodies-reveal/">Rayman Legends visits 'Ocean World,' UK pre-order goodies revealed [update: NA too]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 12:15:00 EST. It's not enough just to play games anymore. Nowadays, you have to <em>watch</em> them too. That just got a little easier on the Xbox 360, thanks to a new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/twitch">Twitch.tv</a> app. The streaming app is <a href="http://majornelson.com/2013/05/14/twitch-app-comes-to-xbox/">now available</a> for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, offering "access to 300 of the most popular streams," including tournaments, all organized by game or popularity.<br />
<br />
Twitch will host a special live broadcast with Xbox Live guru Major Nelson following next week's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/xbox-reveal-may-21/">Xbox Revealed</a>" event on May 21. The broadcast will air on Twitch.tv and the Twitch app on Xbox 360, beginning at 3pm Eastern. The event itself, incidentally, starts at 1pm Eastern. Tune into Joystiq for lots of live coverage.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/14/twitch-app-now-broadcasting-on-xbox-360/">Twitch app now broadcasting on Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 May 2013 11:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/starbreeze-studios/">Starbreeze</a>-owned developer Overkill Software will launch <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/payday-2">Payday 2</a></em> this August on consoles and PC. Publisher 505 Games announced this morning the game will no longer be limited to digital distribution networks, with retail versions planned for Xbox 360 and PS3.<br />
<br />
"We're expecting great things from <em>Payday 2</em> and are really looking forward to working with our retail partners all over the world to make it the huge success it deserves to be," said 505 Games Head of Global Brand Tim Woodley.<br />
<br />

<br />
 <em>Metro: Last Light</em> doesn't sound appetizing with its "suffocating despair" and "gnarled monstrosities," but it's that kind of loveliness that made Ludwig enthuse about the <em>Metro 2033</em> follow-up in his <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/13/metro-last-light-review/">four and a half stars review</a>. He deemed <em>Last Light</em> "an unusual, meticulously detailed shooter inextricable from its environment."<br />
<br />
Of course, Ludwig wasn't the only brave soul to delve into the underground sequel. Here are some other thoughts we dug up.
<ul>
	<li><a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/metro-last-light-review/">GamesRadar</a> <strong>(90/100)</strong>: "Subtlety is what makes <em>Last Light</em> such an exceptionally immersive game. It nails the core tenets of a shooter, then forces you to react to enemies in ways outside of simply taking cover. It plops you in a post-apocalyptic world, then fills it with tons of minor but substantial details, like the shadows of once-living people now permanently nuked into stone walls. It strips you of hope, only to dangle a tiny sliver of it ahead of you like a carrot on a stick."</li>
	<li><a href="http://www.gameinformer.com/games/metro_last_light/b/pc/archive/2013/05/13/metro-last-light-review.aspx">Game Informer</a> <strong>(88/100)</strong>: "This sequel plays more like a shooter than its predecessor, but doesn't sacrifice its intricate narrative or creative vision in the process. Masochistic fans will appreciate the harder difficulties that recreate the grueling experience of the original, but no matter how you approach it, exploring <em>Last Light</em>'s absorbing world is wholly entertaining."</li>
	<li><a href="http://www.giantbomb.com/reviews/metro-last-light-review/1900-577/">Giant Bomb</a> <strong>(80/100)</strong>: "By its very nature of being a sequel, <em>Last Light</em> doesn't feel as fresh as Metro 2033 did, but there's still nothing else like it. Few games generate immersion through gameplay and transport you to their world the way Metro does."</li>
	<li><a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-05-13-metro-last-light-review">Eurogamer</a> <strong>(70/100)</strong>: "<em>Metro: Last Light</em> is not a bad game, but nor is it a good one in quite the same sense as its predecessor. <em>Metro 2033</em> was flawed but trying to do its own thing. If anything, <em>Last Light</em> feels like a regression. Similarities abound, but this is a more conservative FPS, one looking at the competition rather than itself, and one with some terrible missteps. So go in with low expectations, and you might be pleasantly surprised."</li>
