2012 is going to present so many opportunities to pretend to live in George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire universe, we're not sure you'll still have time to larp. We knew that after releasing the RTS, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis"><em>A Game of Thrones: Genesis</em></a>, Cyanide Studios turned its focus to a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/report-cyanide-also-working-on-game-of-thrones-rpg/">Game of Thrones RPG</a> to be published by Atlus. Now, USA Today reports Bigpoint is also working on a free-to-play MMO. Though the article doesn't specify, we'd assume it'll be browser-based like Bigpoint's <em>Battlestar Galactica</em> game.<br />
<br />
USA Today also brings word of a social networking, <em>FarmVille</em>-esque take on Game of Thrones, which is the one we're <em>really</em> excited about. Really. "The gold's not hot enough to kill anyone yet! Try pouring on someone's head again in 14 minutes, or pay 7 ThroneBux to speed it up!"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/09/bigpoint-bringing-a-game-of-thrones-to-yet-another-genre-free-t/">Bigpoint bringing A Game of Thrones to yet another genre: Free-to-play MMOs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST. <em>A Game of Thrones: Genesis'</em> literary goals are pretty auspicious: The game recounts a thousand years of history, filled with bloody conquests and backstabbing, that lead up to the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. You won't necessarily need to know a lot about the books or the cable TV show, but the game loses a lot of its appeal if you can't recognize the names of prominent families like Stark, Targaryen and Lannister.<br />
<br />
Without knowing at least some background, the campaign will seem like a collection of loosely connected stories, rather than the sweeping, epic tale originally spun by George R.R. Martin. It may have some appeal to general fans of strategy, but <em>Genesis</em> is mainly geared towards letting fans experience an abridged look at the events that shaped Westeros.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-7-12-11/">A Game of Thrones: Genesis (7/12/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-7-12-11/#4289054"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/agameofthronesgenesis-10_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-7-12-11/#4289055"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/agameofthronesgenesis-11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-7-12-11/#4289056"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/agameofthronesgenesis-12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-7-12-11/#4289057"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/07/agameofthronesgenesis-13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/06/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A Game of Thrones: Genesis review: Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/06/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-review/">A Game of Thrones: Genesis review: Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Oct 2011 15:30:00 EST. If you're a lover of fantasy books, fantasy video games or -- God help you -- both, you're going to want to sit down for this one. According to a report from EGM (relayed by VG247) Bethesda was in talks to adapt George R.R. Martin's supremely popular Game of Thrones book series into a video game. That's right: The Elder Scrolls people almost brought the Song of Ice and Fire to your favorite video game console. We'll give you a minute to go grab your inhaler.<br />

If you've been left unsatisfied by all the honorable, upstanding strategy games that have come out over the past year, you should brace yourself for a healthy dose of deception later this month. Focus Home Interactive has announced that Cyanide Studios' first adaptation of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis"><em>A Game of Thrones - Genesis</em></a>, will arrive on store shelves of the tangible and digital varieties on September 29.<br />
<br />
If you haven't already consumed every single page of the aforementioned series of novels, you don't really have enough time to do so before the game comes out. Maybe you could watch the TV series! It's like a novel that bunch of famous people read <em>for</em> you.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-fights-dirty-on-september-29/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>A Game of Thrones - Genesis fights dirty on September 29</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/a-game-of-thrones-genesis-fights-dirty-on-september-29/">A Game of Thrones - Genesis fights dirty on September 29</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Sep 2011 14:30:00 EST. We were ready to give Cyanide's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis"><em>A Game of Thrones: Genesis</em></a> the "Most Disingenuously Named Game of the Year" award -- until this most recent batch of screenshots appeared in our inbox. These new screens from Cyanide's upcoming strategy release <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis">A Game of Thrones: Genesis</a></em> show "the coast of Dorne where Queen Nymeria and her people landed, as well as the troops of House Tyrell confronting House Lannister," which will be exciting to ... 100 percent of the people still reading.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/04/21/see-tyrell-v-lannister-in-new-game-of-thrones-genesis-screens/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>See Tyrell v. Good news for fans of Westeros and its inhabitants -- not only does <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/new-game-of-thrones-genesis-screens-and-art-are-awfully-icy/">Cyanide have an RTS</a> based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy series coming out, but apparently the Paris-based developer is also <a href="http://www.cyanide-studio.com/games/agot/">working on an RPG</a> set in the world of the <em>Song of Ice and Fire</em>. French site FactorNews <a href="http://factornews.com/news-31130-Le_Trone_de_Fer_-_le_RPG_se_devoile_en_e.html">got a look at the game</a> in development, and it sounds like just the thing to get your dire wolf howling.<br />
<br />
The title is supposed to play out around the book's events rather than follow them, but still follows the conventions of seeing various points of view. Players will start out as a brother of the Night Watch up at the Wall, then move on to play as Alester Sarwyck, a Red Priest returning to the kingdom after being exiled for 15 years across the Narrow Sea. Gameplay is described as a mix of <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/the-witcher"><em>The Witcher</em></a> and other pseudo-turn-based RPGs, with players choosing skills and directing traffic in the midst of real-time battle. Cyanide is aiming for a release on both PC and consoles.<br />
<br />
It all sounds awesome -- but <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-the-rpg"><em>A Game of Thrones: The RPG</em></a> (working title) isn't planned to see the light of day any time before Martin's <em>Dance with Dragons</em> hits bookstores. If Cyanide delivers everything it is promising in this preview, we'd be willing to pull a Jaime Lannister and <em>kill a king</em> just to get a copy of it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/report-cyanide-also-working-on-game-of-thrones-rpg/">Report: Cyanide also working on Game of Thrones RPG</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 21:40:00 EST. One by one, the constituent elements of Cyanide's RTS adaptation of George R.R. Martin's <em>A Song of Ice and Fire</em> are being revealed. With today's screens, we know <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis"><em>A Game of Thrones: Genesis</em></a> will have plenty of ice -- but where's all the fire? Now that we think about it, where's all the singing?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/new-game-of-thrones-genesis-screens-and-art-are-awfully-icy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Game of Thrones: Genesis screens and art are awfully icy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/25/new-game-of-thrones-genesis-screens-and-art-are-awfully-icy/">New Game of Thrones: Genesis screens and art are awfully icy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Mar 2011 15:15:00 EST. It's been half a year since Cyanide revealed early concept art for its adaptation of George R.R. Martin's <em>A Song of Ice and Fire</em> novels. Today, publisher Focus Home Interactive revealed the first pair of screenshots from the series first outing, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/a-game-of-thrones-genesis">A Game of Thrones: Genesis</a></em>, giving us a look at what the action therein will actually look like. Apparently, it's going to feature large, scary dragons. And villagers. And cottages which appear to enjoy being burned to the ground, signifying their approval with an olde-timey thumbs up placard. We think that's what's going on, there.<br />
<br />
The publisher also revealed a few scant details about the title -- namely, that it will be a real-time strategy affair, with multiplayer support for up to eight different combatants. Victory can be claimed through force, diplomacy or subterfuge -- though, we imagine we'll be leaning on a healthy diet of all three. <br />
<em><br />
Forplomafuge</em>.<br />

<em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blood-bowl">Blood Bowl</a></em> developer Cyanide Studio has revealed a few details about the first installment in its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/cyanide-acquires-game-rights-to-george-r-r-martins-song-of-i/">video game adaptation</a> of George R.R. Martin's <em>A Song of Ice and Fire</em> novels. The game, titled <em>A Game of Thrones: Genesis</em>, will be a strategy title which places players in the role of one of Westeros' illustrious Families. Your options for spreading your faction's influence are diverse, including "military, economic or diplomatic" methods. Considering the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cyanide">developer's lineage</a>, we hope friendly games of flag football can also be used to resolve land skirmishes.<br />
<br />
You can check out further details on <a href="http://www.cyanide-studio.com/">Cyanide's official site</a> for more details on the game, or check out two pieces of early concept art in the gallery below.<br />

We don't get to talk about books much here at The Stiq, what with our heavy focus on <em>teh gaming</em> and all, but today is a joyous day, as the best series of books ever made -- George R.R. Martin's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire"><em>Song of Ice and Fire</em></a> series -- will be turned into games courtesy of <a href="http://www.cyanide-studio.com/?rub=node&amp;nid=806">Cyanide Studio</a>. Don't bother arguing with us, because <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Greyjoy"><em>we do not sow</em></a> and these books are <em>so good</em>.<br />
<br />
The press release says that R. R. Martin and Cyanide have already begun development, with the combined efforts bearing fruit for "next generation consoles and the PC." Sadly, no other details are available as of now, but we're holding out hope that these games will be more fun than that <a href="http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6472"><em>A Game of Thrones</em> board game</a> ...<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/12/cyanide-acquires-game-rights-to-george-r-r-martins-song-of-i/">Cyanide acquires game rights to George R.
