Starting with about 250,000 registered players, the game has since grown up to around 2 million, with the devs fixing bugs and providing weekly patches since then.<br /><br />The weekly patches, which have been adding new skills and items to the game, will continue to roll out. But version 1.0 is going to be the game's full release, when the "open beta" tag comes off, and the game "will be reviewable," according to Wilson. The update will add a full story to the game's Act 3, including lots of new monsters and items, and "do the stuff we had to cut corners on" throughout the game's development, Wilson said.<br /><br />After that, "we intend to do expansions over the next five to ten years," Wilson told us. The team has no set plans for releases, and if they can put a major feature together in less time, then Wilson says they'll do it. The game already had a lot of success with "races," which are <a href="http://www.pathofexile.com/seasons">special events that challenge players</a> to speedrun the game under special conditions. But in general, he said, given the current player base, "adding a new act to the game is probably a once a year thing."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/30/path-of-exile-version-1-0-is-six-months-away-one-expansion-per/">Path of Exile version 1.0 is six months away, one expansion per year after</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Mar 2013 18:00:00 EST. When the game was announced last year, all we knew about it was that it featured co-op action and some groovy graphical flairs, but now we're seeing how <em>Citadel</em> relates to its big role-playing brother.<br /><br />Players will be able to play as three characters at a time, picked from four character classes (including a Khukuri Shaman, an Ancarian Ranger, a Safiri Warrior, or an unrevealed class), and each has their own set of skills to be leveled up and unlocked. Additionally, characters can equip weapons or armor that can be stashed in town, or pop potions to refill either a health or a power meter.<br /><br /><em>Sacred Citadel</em>, says Deep Silver, will serve as a prologue to the upcoming <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/sacred-3"><em>Sacred 3</em></a>, and should be out for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and the PC sometime this year.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/sacred-citadel-will-feature-four-classes-to-level-up-and-a-gear/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sacred Citadel will feature four classes to level up and a gear stash</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/28/sacred-citadel-will-feature-four-classes-to-level-up-and-a-gear/">Sacred Citadel will feature four classes to level up and a gear stash</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 05:00:00 EST. Indie dev Tales of Game's Studios is trying to up that frequency with a soon-to-be-announced Kickstarter for (deep breath) <em>The Magical Realms of T&iacute;r na n&Oacute;g: Escape from Necron 7 - Revenge of Cuchulainn: The Official Game of the Movie - Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa</em>.<br /><br />Tales of Game's is responsible for <em><a href="http://www.talesofgames.com/related_game/barkley-shut-up-jam-gaiden/">Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden</a>, </em>the 2008 fanmade RPG parody of the original SNES basketball game. The studio says it will be aiming to secure funding for the story of "X114JAM9, an amnesiac baller with no recollection of his past and no concept of his incredible b-ball destiny." Players will explore a non-linear world and find out if they "have the courage, vigor and sagacity to slam with the best." Probably?<br /><br />The Kickstarter is set to go live later this month, and Tales of Game's promises more information <a href="https://twitter.com/talesofgames">on its Twitter account</a> soon. We hope Charles Barkley is involved in this silliness, if only so we can see someone explaining the whole thing to him.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/12/barkley-shut-up-and-jam-sequel-heading-to-kickstarter/">Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden sequel heading to Kickstarter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 12 Nov 2012 20:10:00 EST. You click the mouse, and every time you do there's a chance you'll get the loot you want . Yes, the trappings of role-playing and combat mechanics are there, weaker in some cases and stronger in others, but in terms of brain chemistry you're playing for the jackpot.<br /><br />As anyone who's been to Vegas will tell you, there are different kinds of slot machines. There's the rickety old unit sitting in the gas station near the airport. And there's the junky Jokers Wild machines blinking and chirping in that one casino downtown, where the air smells too much like your grandmother's bathroom.<br /><br />And then there are the machines in that one room in the Bellagio, where velvet seats wait underneath crystal chandeliers. That's where the shahs from Dubai come to play with thousand dollar tokens, where pretty ladies serve you drinks as you play, and where a private concierge will happily help you order up a steak, buy a Brooks Brothers suit, or get you anything else you might want. Blizzard's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/diablo-3"><em>Diablo 3</em></a> is that Bellagio room, high stakes and luxurious and ready to cater to your every dungeon crawler need.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/">Diablo 3 (10/21/11)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548185"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-deadly-reach-against-fallen-shamansized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548186"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-deadly-reach-against-sand-dervishsized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548187"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-deadly-reach-modified-with-indigo-runestonesized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548188"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-lashing-tail-kick-against-writhing-deceiverssized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/diablo-3-10-21-11/#4548189"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/10/monk-using-sweeping-windsized_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/diablo-3-review-hitting-the-jackpot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Diablo 3 review: Hitting the jackpot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/21/diablo-3-review-hitting-the-jackpot/">Diablo 3 review: Hitting the jackpot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 12:50:00 EST. We think that sounds like a pretty cool thing we'd like to witness, but in the end it's up to the larger community on Kickstarter to decide if this retro, side-scrolling action RPG will be made. It's kind of like building the atomic bomb, but with more citizen input.<br /><br /><em>Legend of the Time Star</em> is in development by Attack Mountain, an "indie-core" collective based in New York City with the goal to "bring that warm, fuzzy feeling back to gaming by providing players with polished and engaging games that have just the right amount of old and new." The game itself features a protagonist named Hero, a villain who looks like Rasputin and a robust world built with a classic SNES RPG art style.<br /><br />Attack Mountain is asking for $57,500 to create <em>Legend of the Time Star</em>, and with 21 days to go it has raised $5,700. Combining action RPG elements with tower defense, <em>Dungeon Defenders</em> lets players use spells, abilities and structures to keep creatures from destroying their crystal. But you don't have to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/19/dungeon-defenders-review/">take our word for it</a> to find out if it's fun. The playable PC demo is now available for you to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dungeon-defenders/download/dungeon-defenders-demo">download and enjoy</a>. Up to four players can team up online to fend off the invading hordes while collecting loot, but the demo limits players to a single map and caps characters at level 8.<br />

Revolution doesn't come free, as any, uh, revolter (revolutioneer?) will tell you. On May 17, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/fable-iii"><em>Fable 3</em></a> will launch on the Windows and bring with it a tale of two royal siblings vying for the crown -- but will you be able to cast off the shackles of oppression and fight for freedom? Probably not. I mean, have you ever <em>tried </em>to throw a shackle? They're <em>heavy!</em><br />
<br />
Anyway, Lionhead's passed along the system requirements for <em>Fable 3</em>, which aren't too heavy, and you can check them out past the break. Remember, it'll also run in 3D, which is kind of revolutionary for the series. That's it: r<em>evolutionary!</em><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/31/fable-3-pc-system-requirements-revealed-your-highness/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Fable 3 PC system requirements revealed, your highness</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/31/fable-3-pc-system-requirements-revealed-your-highness/">Fable 3 PC system requirements revealed, your highness</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Mar 2011 22:30:00 EST. She also feels the need to dress like <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9iIKn1Bl6c">Gogo Yubari</a> from <em>Kill Bill</em>. The new trailer for Square Enix's co-op dungeon crawler, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/dungeon-siege-3">Dungeon Siege 3</a></em>, speaks of "loyalty" -- but all we see is a lot of butt-whooping. <em>Dungeon Defenders</em> originally began as <em>"</em><a href="http://www.udk.com/showcase-dungeon-defense"><em>Dungeon Defense</em></a><em>,"</em> an indie game created with Epic's Unreal Dev Kit that mashed up the tower defense and action-RPG genres. Developers Trendy Entertainment then decided to revamp the game, which became <em>Dungeon Defenders</em>, and it's now being <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/25/dungeon-defenders-headed-to-psn-xbla-pc-this-fall/">readied for release</a> on XBLA, PC and PSN (with support for Move and stereoscopic 3D) later this year.<br />
<br />
After a recent preview session with the game, I'll say this: It's complicated. <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/dungeon-defenders"><em>Dungeon Defenders</em></a></em> doesn't just mix pieces of a few genres, it totally combines them. There is a full tower defense game here, and a full action-RPG game, and even a little bit of real-time strategy resource management. There's a lot going on, but just like recent genre-mixer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/monday-night-combat/"><em>Monday Night Combat</em></a>, players who can juggle a few genres at a time will find a lot to like.<br />

The listing doesn't offer any detail on how the functionality will work, except to note that you can take pictures that will be used in the game. This adventure, a semi-official followup to <em>Tail Concerto</em>, will not <em>require</em> the use of a DSi.<br />
<br />
Siliconera also points out a new video from the <a href="http://www.solarobo.channel.or.jp/system/index.html">official site</a> (see it after the break) of a multiplayer mode available over Download Play, in which up to four players can race in an Air Robo Gran Prix.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/25/retailer-solatorobo-is-dsi-enhanced/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Retailer: Solatorobo is DSi-enhanced</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/25/retailer-solatorobo-is-dsi-enhanced/">Retailer: Solatorobo is DSi-enhanced</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 25 Aug 2010 07:00:00 EST. In <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/diablo-3">Diablo 3</a></em>, adventurers have the much simpler option to just <em>ask some guy</em> to make you stuff. As revealed today at Gamescom, your character can meet and befriend Artisans, including a blacksmith, mystic and jeweler, who will then follow you around the world of Sanctuary, making new items from raw materials you extract from unwanted loot. <br />
<br />
The blacksmith makes weapons and armor, of course, and can add sockets to items when possible. The mystic enchants items and creates magical implements like scrolls, potions, runes and charms. The jeweler creates gems, amulets and rings, and can also combine existing gems and remove socketed gems. Each artisan has a quest line and backstory and has skills that can be upgraded by the player.<br />
<br />
A Blizzard game with crafting? It'll <em><a href="http://wow.com">never work</a></em>.<br />

<br />
<em>Solarobo</em>, a spiritual successor to CyberConnect2's <em><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tail_Concerto">Tail Concerto</a></em>, casts the player as a dog bounty hunter (but not Dog the Bounty Hunter) who uses his mech to catch fugitives on his floating island home. The game allows characters to fight and interact with the environment both in and out of walking robot vehicles. Red (the dog hero in question) can also "trance up" and transform into ... a human, with his mech transforming along with him.<br />

To learn more about <em>Solarobo's</em> gameplay, you can check out several short videos on the <a href="http://www.solarobo.channel.or.jp/system/index.html">website</a>. Last week saw the release of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/DeathSpank"><em>DeathSpank</em></a>, a game I wasn't alone in likening to "<em>Monkey Island </em>meets <em>Diablo</em>." Presumably in an attempt to avoid missing the "meets <em>Diablo</em>" bus, Maxis is preparing to give the PC gaming world <em>Darkspore --</em> a.k.a. "<em>Spore </em>meets <em>Diablo</em>" -- in February 2011.<br />
<br />
It's a new <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Spore">Spore</a> </em>game, albeit one focused on combat. It's described by publisher Electronic Arts as a "sci-fi action-RPG," but you might describe it as "not really what you were hoping for from Maxis." Still, the studio Will Wright built (and later left) seems to be trying its best to work the idea - an idea it's had since wrapping the original <em>Spore</em>, we're told <em>- </em>into something that will satisfy a more hardcore, multiplayer-focused PC gamer.<br />

"<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/DeathSpank"><em>DeathSpank</em></a>? What a ridiculous name!" I can hear you saying it now. Yes, it is a ridiculous name, for a ridiculous game which revels in the fact that it's ridiculous. Well, that and damned funny. Oh, and a super-fun, retail-caliber yet downloadable action-RPG.<br />
<br />
If you haven't been following all things '<em>Spank</em>, know that it's the creation of Ron Gilbert (one of the mad geniuses who brought the world the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/monkey-island">Monkey Island</a> </em>series) and Hothead Games (makers of the delightful, and also downloadable, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/Penny-Arcade-Adventures-Episode-1"><em>Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain Slick-Precipice of</em> <em>Darkness</em></a>). Also know that it stars a hero, DeathSpank, who possesses enough machismo to fill a football stadium. His grasp on reality, on the other hand, would barely fill a <em>football</em>.<br />

The flagship product of the partnership is <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/ys-seven">Ys Seven</a></em>, the latest game in the long-running action RPG series and the first to be designed specifically for PSP. As someone whose experience with the <em>Ys</em> series can be described as "casual" at best -- I played the original <em>Ys</em> on a few different platforms -- I was pleasantly surprised to see the game evolve from the clumsy bumping-into-monsters adventure I remembered into an action RPG game that seems more than competent in the action department.<br />

We were just thinking to ourselves this morning, "You know what Square Enix <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/square-enix-announces-lord-of-arcana-for-pspr-system-97566694.html">should</a> do? Make a multiplayer action game for PSP. And boy, I could really use a large Berry Blast from Jamba Juice!" And wouldn't you know it, the publisher <a href="http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/square-enix-announces-lord-of-arcana-for-pspr-system-97566694.html">announced</a> plans to bring <em>Lord of Arcana</em>, a "multiplayer action game," to Sony's handheld at some point in the future. A release date "will be announced at a later time," though the <a href="http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/07/01/new-square-enix-game-lord-of-arcana-is%20-coming-to-psp/">EU PlayStation blog</a> says the game will be "coming soon". The announcement details <em>Lord of Arcana</em> as allowing play with "up to three friends" and including creation tools for crafting your own playable character.<br />
<br />
Between <em>LoA</em>'s <a href="http://na.lordofarcana.com/">official website</a> (can we call you <em>LoA</em>, <em>LoA</em>?) and the handful of screens released thus far, it appears that, regardless of the game's "multiplayer action" description, there'll be plenty of numbers and bars and giant swords to satiate Square Enix fans. Unfortunately, the press release contains no mention of that Berry Blast smoothie. <em>For shame</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-arcana-0/">Lord of Arcana</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-arcana-0/#3136637"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/loass001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-arcana-0/#3136638"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/loass002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-arcana-0/#3136640"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/loass003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-arcana-0/#3136641"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/loass004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/lord-of-arcana-0/#3136643"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/07/loass005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/01/square-enixs-lord-of-arcana-be-heading-to-the-psp/">Square Enix's Lord of Arcana be-heading to the PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 Jul 2010 14:30:00 EST. Just past the break, we've got a new trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep"><em>Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep</em></a>, which highlights the PSP title's trio of protagonists: Aqua, Ventus and Terra. As you'd imagine, their <em>keyswordthingy</em> skills are without equal -- except when directly compared to each other, we guess. So where were we?<br />
<br />
Oh, right, the trailer -- you can see it yourself just past the break. And if you're wondering what all of the hubbub is about, you probably haven't read <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep/">our E3 preview</a> yet. Don't worry, we won't hold it against you ... <em>for now</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/30/kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep-trailer-features-fighting-floati/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep trailer features fighting, floating PSPs</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/30/kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep-trailer-features-fighting-floati/">Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep trailer features fighting, floating PSPs</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jun 2010 22:00:00 EST. The latest <em>Famitsu</em> brings word from Toshihiro Nagoshi that, as development o<em>n </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/12/yakuza-psp-spinoff-project-k-named-dated-for-japan/"><em>Black Leopard: New Yakuza Chapter</em></a> for PSP continues, the team is simultaneously working on another <em>Yakuza</em> game for PS3. This will be the seventh game in the series.<br />
<br />
Even among those suffering from <em>Yakuza</em> fatigue, Nagoshi's announcement that this game would feature the eyepatch-clad <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_the_Yakuza_series#Majima_Family_.28.E7.9C.9F.E5.B3.B6.E7.B5.84.29">Goro Majima</a> as a playable character is likely to ignite some frothing demand. Majima, the "Madman of the Shimano Family" is notable mostly for being kind of crazy, and obsessed with fighting Kazuma Kiryu. Inhabiting his life will be pretty different from following the comparatively virtuous Kazuma.<br />
<br />
"While I can't give a release time frame yet," Nagoshi said, "we're working to deliver it at a time <em>Yakuza</em> series fans will want." Whether he means the fans clamoring for an uninterrupted supply of <em>Yakuza,</em> or regular sensible people who think there should be some time between sequels, is unknown.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/30/sega-already-at-work-on-another-ps3-yakuza/">Sega already at work on another PS3 Yakuza</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jun 2010 12:10:00 EST. It's not that I was fighting exceptionally well, but the fighting in <em>Yakuza</em> games is something of a rare spectacle, with a single tough guy weaving through a crowd of gangsters, deftly punching, kicking, dodging, stepping on faces, and bashing them with weapons ranging from swords and stun guns to traffic cones, advertising signs, and beer bottles. Whatever's handy, really. <br />

We're going to go ahead and assume you aren't tired of looking at 3DS images yet, and place them in galleries for your perusal.<br />
<br />
Don't expect the games to look exactly like this upon release -- these images essentially represent tech demos. Tetsuya Nomura told <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/06/16/kingdom-hearts-3ds-is-a-brand-new-title/">Siliconera</a> that <em>Kingdom Hearts 3D</em> "will probably be developed by the team who was in charge of <em>Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep</em>, the Osaka team." In other words, Square Enix hasn't even gotten to the point in the game's development where it figures out who's developing it.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/chocobo-racing-3d-3ds/">Chocobo Racing 3D (3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/chocobo-racing-3d-3ds/#3094365"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/chocoboracing2010-06-03-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/chocobo-racing-3d-3ds/#3094366"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/chocoboracing2010-06-03-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/chocobo-racing-3d-3ds/#3094367"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/chocoboracing2010-06-03-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/chocobo-racing-3d-3ds/#3094368"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/chocoboracing2010-06-03-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/chocobo-racing-3d-3ds/#3094369"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/chocoboracing2010-06-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-3d-3ds/">Kingdom Hearts 3D (3DS)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-3d-3ds/#3094339"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kingdomhearts2010-06-15-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-3d-3ds/#3094340"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kingdomhearts2010-06-15-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-3d-3ds/#3094341"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kingdomhearts2010-06-15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-3d-3ds/#3094346"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/06/kingdomhearts2010-06-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/kingdom-hearts-3d-3ds/#3796098"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/01/2132437938view_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/18/nomura-kingdom-hearts-3d-probably-being-developed-by-birth-by/">Nomura: Kingdom Hearts 3D 'probably' being developed by Birth by Sleep team</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jun 2010 06:30:00 EST. At last year's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/e3-2010">E3</a>, I got a chance to check out <em>Kingdom Hearts</em>' first North American outing on handhelds, <em>358/2 Days</em> (or, as Google's automatic calculator called it when I just searched to make sure I had the name right, <em>179 Days</em>). I recall being impressed at how they managed to ape the solid experience the game delivered on PS2 on a portable platform, albeit at the cost of a bit of visual power and general gameplay depth.<br />
<br />
To describe <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep"><em>Birth By Sleep</em></a> using these terms would be awfully irresponsible. If <em>358/2</em><em> Days</em> was Square-Enix's attempt to emulate the franchise's previous offerings on a handheld, then <em>Sleep</em> represents the fruits of the studio's developmental labor. It's not just an attempt to squish the core franchise down to a smaller format -- it's a fully realized extension of said franchise.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Preview: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/17/preview-kingdom-hearts-birth-by-sleep/">Preview: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Jun 2010 20:46:00 EST. <br />
The game sounds like an action-RPG remake of the Japan-only mobile game <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_coded"><em>Kingdom Hearts: Coded</em></a>, in which a virtual Sora retraces his steps through the original <em>Kingdom Hearts.</em> "Jiminy Cricket is looking over the journal he used to document his first adventure with Sora when he discovers a mysterious message," according to the description of Re:Coded included in Square's E3 press release. "He didn't write it - so how on earth did it get there? King Mickey is determined to find out, so he and his friends decide to digitize the journal and delve into its deepest secrets. Inside this "datascape" dwells a second Sora who is about to embark on a grand adventure of his very own."<br />
<br />
The game currently has a "TBD" release date. Square Enix didn't specify how much of the game would be shown, but considering it's <em>just</em> been announced, we expect little more than a trailer.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/09/kingdom-hearts-re-coded-for-ds-revealed-in-square-enix-e3-lineup/">Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded for DS revealed in Square Enix E3 lineup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 13:55:00 EST. After the break, you can see footage of the dragon tearing around a <em>lava pit, where it apparently lives</em>. At <a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2010/04/26/ironbeards_dangerous_guide_to_monster_hunting:_alatreon">Capcom-Unity</a>, you can read all about how these things "
<meta charset="utf-8">mercilessly tear apart whoever touches their sharp scales," and are so powerful that "their actions can affect the very weather." Okay, now who's ready to go swing a sword at one of these?<br />
<br />
The post also features links to the other entries in the "Dangerous Guide," so you can read up on the other creatures you'd have to be a reckless idiot to fight.<br type="_moz" />

He isn't just good for glowering, yelling about his daughter, and fighting, as this trailer reveals. He is also willing to provide words of encouragement to his ally, Kaine -- who returns the favor elsewhere in the trailer by totally kicking Nier in the face to save him from a giant creature. <br />
<br />
Nier even offers sympathy to a weird-looking monster guy who is having a crisis of conscience after a battle. And he'll be able to help you feel better about what's going on in your life on April 27.<br />

Square Enix is giving us all a chance to study the backstory of Cavia's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/07/nier-gets-close-in-spring-2010/">action RPG</a>, with a <em>Nier</em> comic series produced by DC's Wildstorm Studios. The three-part series will tell three separate, but overlapping, stories in the <em>Nier </em>universe before the game's April 27 release date.<br />
<br />
In addition to introducing the main characters -- including Nier himself, his "disease-stricken" daughter, Yonah, a "conflicted" companion in Kaine, and the talking book "with an attitude," Grimoire Weiss -- the comics will reveal what caused the "Black Scrawl" disease and the cataclysmic event that led to the condition of the world (as it is in the game).<br />
<br />
The <em>Nier</em> comics will be available on the <a href="http://www.niergame.com/"><em>Nier</em> website</a>, and through the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store. See the cover of the first issue after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/maybe-nier-comics-will-help-us-understand-nier/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Maybe Nier comics will help us understand Nier</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/17/maybe-nier-comics-will-help-us-understand-nier/">Maybe Nier comics will help us understand Nier</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Mar 2010 13:40:00 EST. Speaking to <a href="http://www.therumblepack.com/2010/03/10/episode-128-mutating-monkeys/">The Rumble Pack</a>, Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer declared that his company is actively pursuing a console port of its PC action RPG, <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/torchlight"><em>Torchlight</em></a>. "We're going to put some serious effort into it -- pretty quick -- getting <em>Torchlight</em> onto consoles," said Schaefer. "There's a lot of really cool things about the console world, too, that would work well with our game," he added, "So, we are definitely going to be going in that direction." He offered no specifics on the project, saying only that the company is "talking to a million people" and that it's "something we definitely want to do.<br />

We were quite taken with <em>Torchlight</em> when it released on PC last year -- the game landed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-kevins-picks-of-2009/">more</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-richards-picks-of-2009/">than</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/02/best-of-the-rest-xavs-picks-of-2009/">a</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/01/best-of-the-rest-daves-picks-of-2009/">few</a> of our staff's best of 2009 lists -- so here's hoping we'll get some more details soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/10/runic-games-putting-serious-effort-into-console-torchlight/">Runic Games 'putting serious effort' into console Torchlight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:00:00 EST. While we wait for the game's May release to plunge North America into a new retrogaming renaissance (or just be fun), we spoke to Atlus's Manager of PR and Sales, Aram Jabbari, and editor Scott Strichart about the strategy for localizing the game, about its retro roots and about Spelunker.<br />
<br />
<strong>Joystiq: How did Atlus arrive at the budget pricing for this game?</strong><br />
<br />
Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales, Atlus: We made a conscious decision early on to make the game as irresistible a value as possible. While the door isn't entirely closed on Atlus Spoils goodies, we are presently leaning towards passing on as much savings to our beloved fans as possible. Though we feel the game is far meatier in content than the 8- and 16-bit games it lampoons, we are also cognizant of how a simpler retro gaming experience compares to some of the epic current gen releases, at least in the minds of some gamers, and we want to do everything in our power to entice them to experience <em>3DDGH</em> for themselves.<br />

Namco Bandai -- or rather, its subsidiary, D3 Publisher -- has wasted no time in announcing a localized version of the PSP action RPG. <br />
<br />
The <em>Monster Hunter</em>-like <em>God Eater</em>, targeted for a Q3 2010 release, puts players in control of "God Eaters," people fighting against the monsters that have overtaken the modern world. They do this with transforming magical weapons called Jinki -- giant weapons that become beast-like when powered up.<br />
<br />
While you wait for Q3 to arrive, why not try the game right now? You can download the <a href="http:// http://www.godeater.jp/trial/download2.html">Japanese demo</a> from the game's website.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/d3-serving-god-eater-to-north-america-in-q3-2010/">D3 serving God Eater to North America in Q3 2010</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 17 Feb 2010 12:20:00 EST. It seems SouthPeak's taking its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/14/southpeak-bringing-3d-dot-game-heroes-to-europe/">recently acquired role</a> as European publisher for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/3d-dot-game-heroes"><em>3D Dot Game Heroes</em></a> pretty seriously -- according to <a href="http://www.southpeakgames.eu/news/532/">a recent press release</a>, the company will release the PAL version of the bizarre action-RPG on May 14, just a few days after North America gets its hands on the game.<br />
<br />
In addtion, attendees of the <a href="http://www.midlandsmcmexpo.com/">Midlands MCM Expo</a>, held February 20 in the heart of Shropshire, England, will be able to get their first hands-on time with the game. We'd book our flight to the event post-haste -- if we only knew how to speak Shropshirian.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/11/3d-dot-game-heroes-coming-to-europe-may-14-playable-at-midlands/">3D Dot Game Heroes coming to Europe May 14, playable at Midlands MCM Expo</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 00:00:00 EST. The <em>real gameplay info</em> buried within all the embarrassing jokery is that the in-game blacksmith enables players to upgrade their swords to (admittedly) Freudian proportions, allowing them to mow down enemies from a comfortable distance. Seethe no more -- Square Enix announced the North American release date, and it's April 27, only five days after the game arrives in Japan!<br />
<br />
Of course, <em>real Nier </em>fans are going to have to import <em>Nier Replicant</em> to get the <em>full story</em>, and that means learning Japanese is also a requirement. But it's a small price to pay to learn more about some shirtless guy who fights giant sinewy oil-monsters to rescue his daughter.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/03/nier-approaches-north-america-in-april/">Nier approaches North America in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Feb 2010 14:30:00 EST. Square Enix's angriest game ever, <em>Nier</em>, recently <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/02/01/nier-swears-to-launch-in-april/">received a firm Japanese release date</a>: Both iterations of the game (<em>Nier Gestalt</em> and <em>Nier Replicant</em>) will be landing on Japan's store shelves on April 22. Considering the current U.S. release window of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/07/nier-gets-close-in-spring-2010/">Spring 2010</a>, we wouldn't be surprised if we got our hands on the game soon after. However, we've been wrong before! Like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/notworthy-square-enixs-nier-demo/">that time we saw <em>Nier</em> at E3 last year</a>, and were all like "man, there's <em>no way</em> they're actually going to finish and release this."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/02/nier-nears-release-in-april-if-youre-near-japan/">Nier nears release in April (if you're near Japan)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 12:45:00 EST. We'd heard before that Korean developer <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blueside">Blueside</a> (of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninety-nine-nights"><em>Ninety-Nine Nights</em></a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kingdom-under-fire"><em>Kingdom Under Fire</em></a>) was working on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/29/kingdom-under-fire-dev-working-on-new-mmo/">a sekrit massively multiplayer game called <em>Project T</em> for the PC</a>, but now we've learned that it's also planning to <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2010/01/25/ninety-nine-nights-developer-working-on-xbox-360-mmo/">release the game on the Xbox 360</a>. A Korean <a href="http://www.gamejob.co.kr/List_GI/GIB_Read.asp?GI_No=25638">job listing</a> for the company says that the MMORPG is in development for both platforms, and asks for game programming skills of all kinds, including experience working on commercial MMOs.<br />
<br />
The game is supposed to be an "action RPG," so it actually sounds like a pretty good fit to try for the more action-friendly console world. The job listing specifies a contract time of one year (though that seems pretty boilerplate in these situations), and the MMO was last scheduled for a release sometime in 2011. The company's also working on <a href="http://www.incgamers.com/News/20420/kingdom-under-fire-ii-mmo-mode-details">some MMO-style gameplay</a> for its upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/27/new-kingdom-under-fire-ii-gameplay-footage-screens/"><em>Kingdom Under Fire II</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/27/bluesides-project-t-mmo-also-in-development-for-xbox-360/">Blueside's 'Project T' MMO also in development for Xbox 360</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Jan 2010 08:30:00 EST. Valve <em>knows you</em>, conservative Steam user. You've been holding out for a discount on the already low-priced <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/torchlight">Torchlight</a></em> from Runic Games, using the game's lack of Achievements and Steam Cloud support as an excuse to do so, haven't you? <em>Haven't you?!</em> <br />
<br />
It's alright (and we're sorry for yelling)! But we had to get your attention to tell you that Steam's benevolent overlords are already thinking a few steps ahead, adding the aforementioned Cheevos and Cloud support in an update last night as well as dropping the game's price by 50% for the duration of the weekend. For $9.99, you can venture into the land of <em>Torchlight</em> and click to your heart's content -- there's even a demo if you're so inclined. The deal last's until Monday, so let's hope you're an <em>expedient</em> Steam user as well as a conservative one.<br />
