Instead, <em>King of Fighters Android</em> is King of Fighters game for Google's Android OS, which is probably a more reasonable business decision in the long run. Judging from the screenshots below, it appears to be based on <em>King of Fighters XIII</em>, or at least heavily influenced by its art style. The game features 20 fighters, five different play modes and unlockable bonus content like trading cards and concept art.<br /><br /><a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ggee.vividruntime.gg_1403">Available now</a> for $4.99, the game is officially compatible with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Galaxy S 2</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-review/">Galaxy Tab 10.1</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/13/sony-launches-xperia-acro-in-japan-march-15/">Xperia Acro HD</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xperia-play">Xperia Play</a>, which should be a good fit for the title considering it has <em>actual buttons</em>. Compatibility with other Android devices is untested and should be attempted at your own risk; two marketplace reviews already indicate the game does not function on the Galaxy Nexus.<span style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande', verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; text-align: left; "><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-king-of-fighters-android/">The King of Fighters Android</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-king-of-fighters-android/#4912887"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kof-android1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-king-of-fighters-android/#4912888"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kof-android2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-king-of-fighters-android/#4912889"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kof-android3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-king-of-fighters-android/#4912890"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kof-android4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/the-king-of-fighters-android/#4912891"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/03/kof-android5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></span><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/22/king-of-fighters-android-now-on-select-android-devices-for-4-99/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>King of Fighters Android now on select Android devices for $4.99</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/22/king-of-fighters-android-now-on-select-android-devices-for-4-99/">King of Fighters Android now on select Android devices for $4.99</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 22 Mar 2012 18:00:00 EST. The Android OS version of <em>Street Fighter IV</em> we originally caught wind of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/19/street-fighter-iv-coming-to-android-exclusive-to-lg-at-first/">back in September</a> is now <em>Street Fighter IV HD</em>. As per the original announcement, the game will initially be exclusive to the LG Spectrum, which <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/lg-spectrum-verizon-lte/">launches on Verizon January 19</a>.<br />
<br />
After LG's limited exclusivity blackout expires, however, <em>Street Fighter IV HD</em> will hit the US Android Marketplace in May for $12.99. A Wifi-enabled VS. mode allows for local multiplayer, although it's unclear whether wireless VS. will require two of the same handsets. Also no word yet on system requirements for non-LG devices, although since the Spectrum is launching with Gingerbread and not Ice-Cream Sandwich, any dual-core Android device seems like a good bet.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/11/street-fighter-iv-hd-coming-to-android-marketplace-in-may/">Street Fighter IV HD coming to Android Marketplace in May</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jan 2012 18:00:00 EST. Are you sick of your wordsmith cousin Dwight constantly pulling out triple scores in <em>Scrabble Free</em> with nonsense like "Qi?" Do you also have a hardline stance against paying<em> </em>for Android games? EA wants to hook you up, announcing today that a free version of <em>Tetris</em> is launching on<a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ea.tetrisfree_na&amp;feature=search_result"> the Android Marketplace</a> (the <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eamobile.tetris&amp;feature=search_result">non-free version</a> is $2.99).<br />
<br />
Fear not, anti-microtransactionite, as the game is free due to ads, not because you'll be charged $1 for the ability to use straight pieces. And hey, Dwight won't be able to laugh in your face anymore, so there's that ... unless he's also a <em>Tetris</em> master. Blast!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/29/psa-free-version-of-tetris-now-available-for-android-devices/">PSA: Free version of Tetris now available for Android devices</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Aug 2011 12:15:00 EST. "But wait," some of you youngsters might be thinking. "How can those stickers I'm always seeing on Toyota Celicas and Mitsubishi Eclipses be coming to my phone? Why would I even want that?"<br />
<br />
Take a seat, junior, you might learn something: Before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/r-type"><em>R-Type</em></a> adorned the window/bumper of every import with a fat pipe and under lighting, it was the name of one of the most iconic and ground-breaking shooters ever made. And now, retro-game refurbisher DotEmu is bringing Irem's historic xenophobic extermination simulator back to life on September 12, via the Android Marketplace and Amazon's AppStore for Android.<br />
<br />
All of the items and power-ups from the original are said to be present and accounted for, with touch controls taking over for the obviously absent joystick and buttons. Remakes like this strike us as perfect candidates for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xperia-Play">Xperia Play</a>, though no details were given as to whether or not Android devices with buttons will be able to circumvent the touch controls. No price point or Android OS version requirements have been given either, but we'd be surprised if it required anything newer than 2.2.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/28/r-type-coming-to-android-september-12/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>R-Type coming to Android September 12</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/28/r-type-coming-to-android-september-12/">R-Type coming to Android September 12</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 28 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST. Despite <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/13/xperia-play-psone-classics-sales-slow-sony-promises-big-annou/">slow initial sales</a>, things are starting to look up for Sony Ericsson's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Xperia-Play">Xperia Play</a> phone/gaming device. Not only have games <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/battlefield-bad-company-2-rainbow-six-and-more-announced-for-x/">actually been announced</a> for the platform, they're even starting to be released! <br />
WipEout</a></em> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/syphon-filter"><em>Syphon Filter 3</em></a> have been added to the European PSOne Classics Library, so if you're:<br />

<p>
	Despite our wishy washy feelings about this year's big show, <a href="http://joystiq.com/event/e3-2011">the <em>E Triple</em></a>, Epic Games VP and co-founder Mark Rein was quite positive on last week's proceedings. In an interview yesterday with Joystiq, Rein beamed about this year's show, saying, "I thought E3 was really good -- I thought the industry looked good. The quality of games on display was extremely high." He even had positive things to say about the growing divide between "triple-A" and "indie" development, explaining that, even though "it's definitely a boom or bust mentality now" with regards to the big publishing houses, "there was definitely more boom than bust" in his eyes.<br />
	<br />
	But for him, the big news of the show was the same as everyone else: Nintendo's new console, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wii-u">the Wii U</a>, and Sony's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/playstation-vita">PlayStation Vita reveal</a>. "The Vita blew me away," Rein told us. "I was shocked at how badly I wanted to take one of those home with me." He was similarly thrilled by Nintendo's Wii successor, though he wouldn't speak to any specifics regarding Unreal Engine 3 on the new console.<br />
	<br />
	"I can tell you that I got to see it at E3 and it was what I expected of course. We were very excited to play some of their demos, see how good the feel of the hardware was -- it's a very impressive system and I think it's gonna do quite well," he told us. When asked about the possibility of UE3 on Wii U, as indicated by two UE3-based games in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/07/wii-u-games/">Nintendo's own sizzle reel</a>, Rein referred us to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/02/mark-rein-if-3ds-could-deliver-unreal-engine-3-wed-be-on-it/">our conversation at GDC</a>.<br />
	<br />
	He summarized it by saying, "'If Nintendo made a system that could run our engine, we'd be on it like water on fish.' And so when someone asked me what I thought about the Wii U, I said, 'Water, meet fish.'" Seems pretty direct if you ask us!</p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/14/water-meet-fish-epic-games-mark-rein-on-wii-u-ps-vita-and/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Water, meet fish': Epic Games' Mark Rein on Wii U, PS Vita, and E3 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/14/water-meet-fish-epic-games-mark-rein-on-wii-u-ps-vita-and/">'Water, meet fish': Epic Games' Mark Rein on Wii U, PS Vita, and E3 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Jun 2011 11:15:00 EST. Time is already passing, and you're not downloading <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/plants-vs-zombies"><em>Plants vs. Zombies</em></a> on your Android device -- for zero dollars! Frankly, that seems <em>really</em> silly to us. Sure, Popcap already released the game on just about every other piece of electronics you own, but that doesn't make it any less wonderful and addicting. Did we mention it's free? Maybe we should point that out again, 'cause it's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b/ref=sa_menu_adr_app4?ie=UTF8&amp;node=2350149011"><em>totally free</em></a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/31/psa-plants-vs-zombies-free-on-android-today/">PSA: Plants vs. Zombies free on Android today</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 31 May 2011 17:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/gameloft-boss-defends-company-clones/">Cloning</a> the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/maxplosion">core concepts</a> of a game for an App Store title is one (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/22/gameloft-sells-over-20-million-units-on-app-store/">profitable</a>) thing, but stealing a game's name, assets and even code -- and reaping the profits -- is just a <em>tad</em> illegal. <a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/02/halfbot-interview.ars?comments=1&amp;start=80#comments-bar">Ars Technica</a> has such tales of woe from a couple companies. One example is a small dev called Halfbot that was planning to port its Flash-based game <em><a href="http://www.halfbot.com/?page_id=279">The Blocks Cometh</a></em> to the iPhone. Only, the two-man team soon found out it'd been beaten to the punch by someone who had essentially copied and pasted the game onto the App Store.<br />
<br />
The Halfbot team scrambled to rectify the situation and got the app pulled, but only after the title was featured on the "new and noteworthy" section of the App Store, eventually breaking into the top 100 as a $0.99 app. Developer Derek Laufman told Ars, "If we don't make it into the top 100 games when our version is released then we'll know it definitely [affected] our game in a negative way."<br />
<br />
The full Ars piece is a solid read to get an idea of how, in this world of small-scale development, with relatively hands-off platforms like the App Store and Android Marketplace, this could become a serious issue -- well, more serious than it already is.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/16/indies-struggle-with-blatant-copycats-on-app-store/">Indies struggle with blatant copycats on App Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 16 Feb 2011 21:30:00 EST. Kongregate CEO Jim Greer called Google's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/18/kongregate-arcade-removed-from-android-market/">swift removal</a> of his company's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/18/kongregate-arcade-brings-300-games-to-android-wants-to-solve/">Kongregate Arcade app</a> from the Android Marketplace "surprising." Released on the morning of January 19, the app was pulled by that evening. "We were very surprised, especially since we had shown it to several people at Google in mobile," Greer told Joystiq, noting that "the particular person who's sort of the lead on rejecting it" had not seen it prior to release.<br />
<br />
"The reason for the removal," Greer recounted, "and we didn't find out until after it was already gone, was that they claim you can't use their app store to distribute another app store -- which is a reasonable restriction. But to us, what's really bizarre, to call [Kongregate Arcade] an 'app store' seems like a pretty extreme stretch."<br />
<br />
The Arcade app is essentially a portal to Kongregate's Flash site, with access to more than 300 games formatted for mobile display and wrapped in a native layer of social features. "Literally, you can go to m.kongregate.com and play any of the games," Greer insisted. "And the experience will be -- once you've got the game on your phone -- just the same," minus the "rich presentation layer" added by the app.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/kongregate-ceo-jim-greer-on-getting-pulled-from-the-android-mark/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kongregate CEO Jim Greer on getting pulled from the Android Market</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/kongregate-ceo-jim-greer-on-getting-pulled-from-the-android-mark/">Kongregate CEO Jim Greer on getting pulled from the Android Market</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 19 Jan 2011 20:20:00 EST.
