His ensemble, even from the beginning of his hell-bent rampage, speaks of being meticulously composed, what with that pale skin, flowing skirt and bold face tattoo. How <em>avante garde</em>.<br /><br />That said, it's interesting to note that just days before Sony introduced Kratos to the world, he sported <em>blue </em>full-body markings and more Hot Topic-inspired accessories. Right before his launch, however, someone on director David Jaffe's team pointed out that Smurfy Kratos resembled the <a href="http://criminalcrackdown.blogspot.com/2012/12/kratosas-smurf.html">Barbarian</a> from <em>Diablo 2</em>, and his design was swapped to the red Kratos we now know and love.<br /><br />"I had played <em>Diablo </em>but never <em>2</em>, and this was sure news to me," Jaffe recalls. "As it was too clearly to many/all others on the team, as this was the first we'd heard of the character, let alone the similarity. So you can bet we changed it, lickety fuckin' split!"<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/16/kratos-god-of-war-man-of-evolving-fashion-tastes/">Kratos: God of war, man of evolving fashion tastes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 16 Dec 2012 12:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: right;"><small>[<a href="http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/dsiLL/index.html">Nintendo</a>]</small></div>
With the <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/3ds">3DS</a> right around the corner, buying a DSi or DSi XL seems a bit foolish. Now, in Japan, it'll at least be a more cost-effective foolish decision, as Nintendo of Japan has announced price drops on both iterations of the DSi. The regular-size DSi drops in price on June 19 from &yen;18,900 ($205.55) to &yen;15,000 ($163.13), while the DSi XL drops from &yen;20,000 ($217.51) to &yen;18,000 ($195.76). The DS Lite is now "open price," meaning retailers can price it at their discretion.<br />
<br />
In addition to the price drop, there will be three new colors of DSi XL available in Japan on June 19: blue, yellow, and green. These are a lot more fun than the previous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/30/dsi-xl-faq-sized-up/">luxury car colors</a> for the giant handheld.<br />

Currently, no announcements have been made outside of Japan, but with the black Wiimote on the way to North America, and the black system and Classic Controller Pro announced for Europe today, it seems like only a matter of time before all Wiimote variants are available everywhere.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/20/see-the-wii-remote-in-pink-and-blue/">See the Wii Remote in pink and blue</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Oct 2009 16:15:00 EST. Brothers and sisters across the pond, we'd like to inform you that <a href="http://nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2009/new_colours_for_the_nintendo_dsi_14609.html">three new DSi colors</a> are coming your way October 23. Joining the already available black and white models are the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/nintendo-launching-dsi-in-north-america-on-april-5/">US launch cotton candy blue model</a>, a metallic blue model (which looks exactly like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/09/enamel-navy-and-ice-blue-lites-on-display/">the navy DS Lite</a> from Japan) and a red model. Each DSi will come pre-loaded with the new Facebook integration feature and Flipnote Studio. <br /><br />Oh, and if you get one, don't forget to take it online for those 1,000 free DSi Points (offer ends March 2010).<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/09/22/new-nintendo-dsi-colours-incoming/">Electrigpig</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/22/europe-gets-three-new-nintendo-dsi-colors-october-23/">Europe gets three new Nintendo DSi colors October 23</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Sep 2009 15:15:00 EST. Capcom's booth had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/capcom-bundling-monster-hunter-3-with-black-wii-in-japan/"><em>Monster Hunter 3</em> bundles</a> as part of its <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/news/359/35920.html"><em>Monster Hunter </em>display</a>, and Nintendo had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/exclusive-blue-wiimote-nunchuk-and-motionplus-for-lucky-wii-spo/">blue Wiimote and Nunchuk</a>, of course, to <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/news/359/35922.html">promote <em>Wii Sports Resort</em></a> -- which, incidentally, was also the inspiration behind a very nice set of <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/media/screenshot2.php?gameid=89083&amp;image=9">giveaway items</a>.<br /><em><br /></em>The Nunchuk has always been shiny on top and matte on bottom, but it's much more <em>noticeable</em>, and nice-looking, on the black version. Somehow, the Wiimote jacket also looks cool in matte black, despite being a Wiimote jacket. The <a href="http://www.inside-games.jp/media/screenshot2.php?gameid=89079&amp;image=8">Classic Controller Pro</a>, as well, looks like much more of an <em>upgrade</em> in shiny black plastic. Head past the break to see the blue <em>Wii Sports</em> controllers.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/black-wii-blue-controllers-on-display-at-world-hobby-fair/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Black Wii, blue controllers on display at World Hobby Fair</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/black-wii-blue-controllers-on-display-at-world-hobby-fair/">Black Wii, blue controllers on display at World Hobby Fair</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 22 Jun 2009 13:15:00 EST. First, Nintendo <em>finally</em> announces a Wii in a new color scheme (<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/nintendo-releasing-black-wii-red-dsi-this-summer/">black</a>), and now, less than two weeks later, the company has announced <em>another</em> color for the Wiimote and Nunchuk -- and the first new color for the MotionPlus. However, this is going to be a little harder to come by.<br /><br />From June 25 to August 31, Nintendo will give away exclusive light blue Wiimotes, MotionPlus attachments and Nunchuks (and a matching jacket, <em>of course</em>) to five thousand Japanese <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/club-nintendo">Club Nintendo</a> members who register copies of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/hands-on-wii-sports-resorts-archery-and-canoeing/"><em>Wii Sports Resort</em></a>. Not that Nintendo needed to offer any kind of incentive to sell <em>Wii Sports Resort</em>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=84774">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/15/exclusive-blue-wiimote-nunchuk-and-motionplus-for-lucky-wii-spo/">Exclusive blue Wiimote, Nunchuk and MotionPlus for lucky Wii Sports Resort visitors </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Jun 2009 12:15:00 EST. <br />While we're still waiting for that leopard skin Wiimote <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/strap/">wrist strap</a> of our <em>dreams</em>, Nintendo will shortly release green, blue, pink, and white straps in Japan. Other than helping to distinguish Wiimotes between multiplayer sessions, we can't really think of a compelling need for these non-threatening, pastel accessories, but perhaps they're a sign that matching controllers are on the way? That's probably a long shot, but it would be nice.<br /><br />For those of you with an interest in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/imports/">importing</a>, these are scheduled to appear next month for &yen;300 ($2.80) each, or you can snag the four-pack above for &yen;1,000 ($9.25). For those of you who are too cheap for even that, you can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/02/hate-that-wiimote-strap-color-jazz-it-up/">make your own</a> for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/30/dress-up-those-wrist-straps/">nada</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/21/nintendo-jazzing-up-wiimote-wrist-straps/">Nintendo jazzing up Wiimote wrist straps</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 16:35:00 EST. PSP loves two numbers this week in Japan: the number 1 and 74,024. You see, the PSP is still number 1 this week, and it sold 74,024 systems. Yeah, see what we did there? Sales were spurred by a myriad of factors, such as the release of a new Blue system, bundled with the popular 1seg TV tuner. It also didn't help that it was a PSP, which Japanese gamers have confused with crack cocaine, apparently.<br />

There's a new PSP color coming soon: Metallic Blue. And it'll be available in the upcoming <em>Madden 09</em> Entertainment Pack, which includes the system, the game, a NFL documentary and a code to download <em>beats</em> off the PS Store. According to <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001A3DKGC/102-5777777-4084119?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B001A3DKGC">amazon.com</a>, the system will be available on August 12th.<br /><br />Spencer from <a href="http://www.siliconera.com">Siliconera</a> snapped a few shots of the system in action over at San Diego Comic-Con for us (thanks!). Just like every other PSP, it has the uncanny ability to pick up fingerprints. Will you pick this baby up come August?<br /><br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/24/spotted-comic-con-blue-psp/">Spotted @ Comic-Con: Blue PSP</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Jul 2008 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left">SCEJ seems to love colors. Not only did the PSP Slim launch in the region with a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/17/japan-scores-6-new-psp-lite-colors/">veritable rainbow</a> of colors to choose from, but it feels like a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/sony-announces-new-bronze-psp-and-additional-hardware-for-japan/">new color</a> SKU is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/deep-red-psp-systems-to-invade-japan-as-well/">announced</a> every other month. This new blue SKU is similar (if not, the same) as what <em>Madden</em> fans will find in their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/madden-nfl-09-psp-entertainment-pack-coming-this-fall/">entertainment bundles</a> this Fall. Japan will get their hands on the system much sooner as the two new blue SKU bundles are being introduced on the 17th of July. <br /><br />The blue PSP will be made available in a Value Pack, which will contain the normal power cables, 32MB memory card and softcase, as well as a D connector cable for TV-out. This pack will retail for 23,800 yen. Alternatively, there's a 1Seg pack which contains a 1Seg tuner, 1GB memory card, a stand and a much heftier softcase, which will retail for 29,800 yen. Where's the color, Nintendo? We know all about Noble Pink, but some of us are <em>manly men</em>, and it would hurt our fearful reputation to be seen with such a gentle shade of DS! Across the Atlantic, our North American friends have enjoyed those lovely <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/05/two-toned-ds-going-to-japan-sans-bundle/">two-tone</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/buy-your-loved-one-a-blue-and-black-lite/">models</a>.<br /><br />But no longer must our portable consoles lack vividity! Following much <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/german-retailers-list-three-new-ds-colors/">rumor</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/rumor-new-ds-lite-colors-for-europe/">speculation</a>, Nintendo has started e-distributing the advert you see to the right, featuring a rainbow of DSes (kind of an ugly rainbow, but a rainbow nonetheless). We've suspected this was real for a while, but it's nice to have some confirmation -- and some cheery color back in our lives.<br /><br />In case you forgot, the Ice Blue, red, and green will all be here June 13th.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/nintendo-confirms-injection-of-color-for-european-dses/">Nintendo confirms injection of color for European DSes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 May 2008 12:30:00 EST. This is certainly going to draw a large crowd here in the US. Football lovers love <em>Madden</em>, and this new <em>Madden</em> PSP Entertainment Pack looks to be an excellent value for pigskin fans everywhere. For $200, the bundle includes a shiny Metallic Blue PSP, <em>Madden NFL 09</em> the game, "NFL: In Just One Play" UMD Video, the PSN downloadable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/beats"><em>Beats</em></a>, and a 1GB Memory Stick. All in all, an excellent value.<br /><br />The bundle will be available in stores on August 12th.<br /><br />
<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/21/madden-nfl-09-psp-entertainment-pack-coming-this-fall/">Madden NFL 09 PSP Entertainment Pack coming this fall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 21 May 2008 09:54:00 EST. Back in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/30/rumor-three-new-colors-for-europe/">March</a>, Dutch website Nintendo Only claimed that Europe would be receiving a trio of new DS Lite colors on May 1st, including the (previously Japan-only) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/media/2008/03/iceblue032908.jpg">Ice Blue</a> model, a mysterious green version, and the quite <em>gorgeous</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/03/something-great-in-the-mail-red-ds-lite/">Japan Post red DS Lite</a>.<br /><br />Alas, May 1st came and passed without incident, but now the exact same models mentioned by Nintendo Only have appeared in the database of a German retailer ("hellblau" is "light blue," while the others are obvious), complete with listings for red, green, and turquoise (?) <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/12/cheap-stylus-gifts-that-arent-really-styli/">styli</a>. Oh, and there also appears to be <em>serial numbers</em> -- serial numbers make everything look more official.<br /><br />Suddenly, this same speculation is looking <em>far more credible</em>, and we're <em>way too excited</em> again. Skip past the break for the full listings.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/german-retailers-list-three-new-ds-colors/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>German retailers list three new DS colors</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/09/german-retailers-list-three-new-ds-colors/">German retailers list three new DS colors</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 May 2008 20:00:00 EST. The BBC's <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/">Watchdog</a> consumer report program has discovered a shocking issue with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/brain-training-rocked-the-uk-in-07/"><em>Brain Training</em></a>: apparently there are some problems with the voice recognition! The game <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/19/ds-lite-and-brain-age-not-playing-well-together/">doesn't always understand</a> you when you say "blue" or "yellow!" Have you guys heard about this?<br /><br />What you m<span id="intelliTXT" name="intelliTxt">ay <em>not</em> have heard about is that this is now being interpreted as discrimination against people with certain regional dialects. "I'm going, 'yeller' and everyone's saying to me you need to be a bit posher. You need to say, 'yellow' and as soon as I did, it picked it up," reported Michelle Livesey. Host </span><span class="text_article_body">Nicky Campbell then suggested that the game was discriminatory against people with Northern and Scottish accents. </span><span id="intelliTXT" name="intelliTxt">Nintendo responded to the report with a statement explaining that they recognize the issue, and that voice recognition in the Stroop test is only a small, optional part of the game.<br /><br />Yet again we find ourselves taken aback by the mainstream media's treatment of gaming. Had Livesey<em> </em>done even the most casual of Googling, she would have learned that the <em>Brain Training</em> voice issue is the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henny_Youngman">"Take my wife, please"</a> of DS game jokes (meaning it's <em>ancient</em>). It's not enough that they presented a well-known problem with a two-year-old game as <em>news</em>, but they seem to have attempted to ignite some sort of controversy over it, without actually <em>doing any research or knowing what they were talking about.</em> People across the United States have the <em>same problem</em>, but to our knowledge nobody accused Nintendo of discriminating against most Americans. We're just going to choose to believe, without having heard the program, that Campbell's comment was facetious in nature. <em>For our sanity.</em><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=181457">CVG</a>]</span><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/05/bbcs-watchdog-keeping-an-eye-on-2006/">BBC's Watchdog keeping an eye on 2006</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 Feb 2008 09:45:00 EST. Rumors surfaced earlier this month that a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/10/rumor-another-blue-ds-lite/">cobalt blue DS Lite</a> might be in the works, and now a page at Circuit City has popped up confirming the new model. It's not quite as we expected, however; the new model is blue and black, much like the crimson and black Lite that got our blood boiling last year. <br /><br />Thoughts on the new color combo? If you're willing to shell out the cash for a new Lite, we want to know. It's a bit darker than we expected, put part of that is surely the reflection of the black backing. Overall, we're pleased. <br /><br />[<font color="red">Update</font>: The Circuit City page has been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/28/ds-daily-did-circuit-city-spill-too-early/">removed</a>.]<br />[Via <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=34223">GoNintendo</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/new-blue-ds-lite-confirmed/">New blue DS Lite confirmed [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Jan 2008 18:40:00 EST. <div align="left">We're all familiar with the pulsating blue glow that tells us we've got a message. Some of us find it futuristic, others creepy (it's like it's <em>breathing</em> or something.) How do you react to the Wii's alerts? Do you check your messages immediately, thinking that <em>this</em> will be the time it's <em>important</em>, or do you prefer to leave the pretty blue light on as long as possible?<br /></div>
<br />Also, do you ever send messages to your friends' Wiis just to turn their blinky light on? We have, on occasion, for a friend who does the same for us! It's <em>blinky, </em>you see. They're here, they're pretty ugly, get used to it. The new colored Xbox 360 controllers are now available to <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/catalog.aspx?st=wireless&amp;g=205000000&amp;s=2&amp;p=1&amp;c=10">purchase</a> for $49.99. We really couldn't say it better than X3F when they pointed out these are the perfect "It's a Boy" or "It's a Girl" baby shower gift colors. Sadly, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/12/pink-and-blue-xbox-360-controllers-coming-in-november-or-dec/">powder blue controller</a> we were hoping for and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/colored-xbox-360-controllers/">saw at E3</a> won't be in North America just yet, but you can always import it from Japan starting November 1. And just remember, if you hate all these colors, you can always <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/make-your-own-colored-xbox-360-controller/">make your own</a>.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/10/02/pink-and-blue-controllers-available-for-purchase/">X3F</a>]<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-360-pink-and-blue-controllers/">Xbox 360 Pink and Blue Controllers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-360-pink-and-blue-controllers/#396622"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/light-blue-xbox360-controller_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-360-pink-and-blue-controllers/#395060"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/p1010430_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-360-pink-and-blue-controllers/#395063"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/p1010431_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-360-pink-and-blue-controllers/#395061"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/p1010433_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/xbox-360-pink-and-blue-controllers/#395058"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/09/p1010434_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/03/blue-and-pink-xbox-360-controllers-now-available/">Blue and pink Xbox 360 controllers now available</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Oct 2007 09:30:00 EST. We were all fine and content with the new dark and intense colors, but new photos have us second guessing ourselves. The guys over at <a href="http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&amp;newsid=18871">MaxConsole</a> posted a shot of the new controllers in their natural habitat and honestly, the pictures supplied on Xbox.com don't match. Well, they are close, because the controllers are pink and blue, but in reality the controllers are more Easter egg pastel than dark intense colors. We're officially renaming the color descriptions to "puffy cloud sky blue" and "soft and gentle I need love pink". The <em>Scene It</em> controllers aren't the only cue that Microsoft has been taking from Nintendo lately. The <strike>coral</strike> pink Xbox 360 controller, along with the powder blue, just scream for you to pick them up and say, "Awwww." It's just the perfect color for that girl in your life ... or pastel lover. No word when these will release though you'd think there'd be signage or something like that. Just remember, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/21/make-your-own-colored-xbox-360-controller/">you can always make your own</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/colored-xbox-360-controllers/">Colored Xbox 360 controllers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 23:05:00 EST. Are you feeling the need for some color in your life? Well, today Microsoft revealed two Xbox 360 controller colors that should make you a happy camper. The brand new <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelesscontrollerblue/default.htm">blue</a> and <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelesscontrollerpink/default.htm">pink</a> wireless controllers will retail for $49.99 just like their older <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelesscontroller/">white</a> and <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelesscontrollerblack/">black</a> cousins and will be available this October. Now remember fanboys, blue is for boys and pink is for girls. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelesscontrollerblue/default.htm">Read</a> - Blue Xbox 360 wireless controller<br /><a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360wirelesscontrollerpink/default.htm">Read</a> - Pink Xbox 360 wireless controller<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/11/pink-and-blue-controllers-join-white-and-black/">Pink and blue controllers join white and black</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 14:15:00 EST. <ol>
    <li>It's a <em>huge</em> game</li>
    <li>We are too weak to resist the obvious joke (see title)</li>

Formerly exclusive to Japan, the Ice Blue DS Lite is coming to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Australia/">Australia</a> at some unknown time, according to a <a href="http://www.nintendo.com.au/">Nintendo of Australia</a> press announcement. Perhaps realizing that ice is quite rarely blue, the Australian unit will be called "Sky Blue." We can verify that yes, the sky is blue. <br /><br />There's no word on release date or price, but we'd expect it to be $A199.95 (US $165) like other DS's in Australia. You know, unless Nintendo of Australia is just a bunch of <em>jerks.</em> Oh, and speaking of jerks, there's still no sign of the lovely Ice/Sky Blue DS Lite being released in the U.S.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> Go Nintendo is <a href="http://gonintendo.com/?p=18268">confirming</a> that the handheld will be available come July 19th and retail for $199.95RRP. Also, it would seem this is going to be a one time limited release.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157691">NeoGAF</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/australia-getting-ice-blue-ds-lite/">Australia getting Ice Blue DS Lite [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 May 2007 11:00:00 EST. Keep checking with us for news of the inevitable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/delay">delays</a> of about half of these. Seriously, that's a <em>lot</em> of first-party Nintendo games for just half a year or so. Aw, we just made ourselves sad with our own skepticism. Still, if half of this stuff does get released in Japan this year, it'll be great news and do a pretty good job of ending any <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/wii-warm-up-drought-or-growing-pains/">drought</a> that may or may not be happening.<br /><br /><font color="red">Update:</font> fixed some italics and formatting.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/01/the-big-three-are-coming-in-2007-to-japan/">'The big three' ARE coming in 2007 (to Japan)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 01 May 2007 11:25:00 EST. We <em>really </em>weren't fans of Mario's blue shell ability in <em>New Super Mario Bros.</em>, because it tended to steer us inexorably into a lava-filled grave. But we want to <em>hug</em> this plush <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/blue">Blue</a> Shell Mario. And then maybe toss him into lava.<br />
<br />
Play-Asia is selling these adorable <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nsmb">NSMB</a> toys, produced by Banpresto, for about $11 each. You have your choice of the aforementioned Mario, a Mega <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mushroom">Mushroom</a>, Boo, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/luigi">Luigi</a> (in casino minigame regalia) and Toad. Does anyone else find it odd that Luigi still wears his green hat, even when he's in formal attire?<br />

It mentions that the publisher is "focusing on the PC and Nintendo <span class="iAs" style="border-bottom: 0.075em solid darkgreen; font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; text-decoration: underline; color: darkgreen; background-color: transparent; padding-bottom: 1px;"></span>DS markets", <em>not the game. </em>We apologize for the misunderstanding. Thanks to eric c for the correction!]<br /><br />Before the episodic <em>Sam &amp; Max</em> games, Telltale Games were known among adventure game holdouts for their adaptations of Jeff Smith's <a href="http://www.boneville.com/"><em>Bone</em></a> comic series. They followed a similar business model: periodic, bite-sized chunks of delicious puzzle solving, set in cult comic book trappings.<br /><br />Now publisher Xider is bringing the <em>Bone </em>games to the <strike>DS</strike> PC and <strong>unidentified games to the DS </strong>in Europe in 2007. We hope that they decide to bring them stateside as well, and that they <em>don't</em> decide to shoehorn <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/trace">weird</a> touch screen/microphone puzzles into what is supposed to be a pretty good <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/adventure">adventure</a> series. <strong>It's still possible, but the identities of the DS games have yet to be announced.</strong><br /><br />We're so <em>proud</em> of our little DS, bringing back two of our favorite long-lost game genres: the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phoenixwright">graphical</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/hoteldusk">text</a> adventure and the 3D <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/layton">adventure</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lostinblue">game</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/27/bone-ds-adventure-renaissance-continues/">Bone: DS adventure renaissance continues [update 1]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 27 Feb 2007 14:30:00 EST. No, come to us instead! We will keep you <em>well-informed</em>.<br /><br />It's nothing earth-shattering, alas. Nintendo simply sent out a responsible message to all Wii-owners about the original pack-in wrist straps, still the subject of much debate. Along with a friendly reminder <em>not</em> to be a retard, the message also directs gamers to a <a href="http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp">website</a> at which they can exchange their puny straps for the beefy, meaty kind. You can go with phat or sleek. You can turn it into a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/07/ds-phat-mod-koopa-troopa-shell/">turtle shell</a> or a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/09/turn-your-ds-into-a-tank/">tank</a>. You can <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/12/interesting-and-cheap-way-to-customize-your-ds/">tattoo it</a> or you can go for plain, sparkling white. With the DS, the choice is yours ... and some people like to go for multiples. For DS owners, it seems less is definitely <em>not</em> more. So what about you? Are you packing more than one DS? Was it the lure of a new color, or did you yearn for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/28/special-edition-pokemon-ds-lite-and-game-launches-in-japan/">special edition</a>? Did you make the transition from phat to lite? <a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/dsd">We'd love to know</a> if you have more than one DS lying around the house. <br /><br />And while we're on the subject ... anyone else just itching for the blue ones to make their way outside Japan? It may not be cheap, but it's far more affordable than outright buying a new import PSP. New colors, such as <a href="http://www.divineo.cn/php/affstart.php?affcode=pspgadgetz&amp;prod=psp-faceps">Silver</a> and <a href="http://www.divineo.cn/php/affstart.php?affcode=pspgadgetz&amp;prod=psp-facepb">Metallic Blue</a> (it's so shiny!) are available for your consumption. Considering how SCEA seems to think that we're satisfied with having simply one color (black) in the market, this might be the best option for you to add a little color to your PSP gaming.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/pspcell/diary/200701240002/">PSP GadgetZ</a>]<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/08/up-close-with-the-metallic-blue-psp/">Up close with the metallic blue PSP</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/24/isnt-black-so-boring/">Isn't black so boring?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Jan 2007 23:00:00 EST. And then it crashed. Hard. As it trudged along through the years, essentially dead but for rare gems like <em>The Longest Journey</em>, it slowly faded from the minds of modern gamers.<br /><br />The point-and-click capabilities of the DS have certainly given the once-zombified genre a much-needed jolt. We've seen excellent offerings, including the superlative <em>Phoenix Wright</em> series, the soon-to-be-released <em>Hotel Dusk: Room 215, Trace Memory, Lost in Blue</em>, and a few others (let's not even mention the <a href="http://scummvm.drunkencoders.com/">ScummVM homebrew project</a>). But the DS gives these games something they could have never had in the nineties: absolute portability. It's almost as though these games compete directly with the classic novel, something which has never really been seen even amongst the myriad of gadgets anyone can go out and readily purchase.<a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/dsd"><br /></a><br /><a href="http://dsfanboy.com/tag/dsd">Our question is this</a>: how does a DS adventure game compare to that of a classic book? What would you rather whip out on the way to work? <em>Phoenix Wright</em> <em>2 </em>has had our hearts and minds in a legal grip for days on end. You may not look as smart as those punks reading Vonnegut, but that's okay. You look <em>cooler</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/23/ds-daily-the-new-book/">DS Daily: The new book?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Jan 2007 09:00:00 EST. To be so thoroughly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/13/ds-fanboy-presents-game-night-12-12-06-aftermath/">destroyed by yours truly</a> in <em>Mario Kart DS</em> is a humbling experience. Still, any <em>master</em> such as myself still wants a bit of competition now and then, and thus this video, posted by the folks over at <a href="http://www.nintendo-europe.com">Nintendo of Europe</a>, highlights some of the games' numerous shortcuts and tricks. There are even one or two even <em>I</em> didn't know about (Delfino boardwalk jump!), so with this video in mind, perhaps you'll all fare better in the future. <em>MK:DS</em> won't be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/03/ds-fanboy-presents-game-night-1-2-07-aftermath/">back in the rotation</a> for a few more weeks, but the day will soon come. On December 21st (one day before the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/30/metal-gear-bundle-gets-even-more-awesome/"><em>Metal Gear Solid</em> bundle</a> comes out), the Japanese will be able to pick up a <em>Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology</em> bundle, which includes the game, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/01/silver-and-metallic-blue-psps-are-a-go/">blue PSP</a>, a limited edition pouch, and more for 28,000 yen ($237).<br /><br />Considering how <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/03/tales-of-the-world-is-hottest-games-video-baffles-joystiq/"><em>Tales of the World</em></a> is essentially fan service, in game form (it features characters from various <em>Tales</em> games), this package will no doubt destroy all of Japan, and give the PSP the attention it so rightfully deserves. <a href="http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?DRAZHJTP+http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-c/version-all/section-games/did-5/pid-1004538028/">Importers</a> may want to get their wallets ready for this one.<br /><br /><strong>[Via <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/index.php/2006/11/20/psp-tales-of-world-bundle-comes-to-japan/">Siliconera</a>]</strong><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/20/tales-of-the-world-bundle-hitting-japan/">Tales of the World bundle hitting Japan</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Nov 2006 19:30:00 EST. The new Silver and Metallic Blue colors for the PSP are hitting Japan, sans bundles. Why is the US stuck with just plain ol' black?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://kingplayer.blog.playersrepublic.fr/archive/2006/11/01/2-nouvelles-couleurs-pour-la-psp.html">Kingplayer</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/01/silver-and-metallic-blue-psps-are-a-go/">Silver &amp; Metallic Blue PSPs are a go</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Nov 2006 13:30:00 EST. Hawthorne Heights and Relient K may excite the plebian youth, but not <em>seasoned</em> and <em>impossibly articulate</em> gamers such as ourselves. No, we are drawn to higher forms of art and diversion. Like, you know, pretending to hula hoop to earn a green checkmark on a bright screen.<br /><br />In any case, the NFT kicked off with its opening act in Columbus, Ohio last night, and we've got some early impressions of the event. Wii and DS units galore, but nothing Earth-shattering, save perhaps for the mysterious disappearance of the glowing blue light from the propietary slot-loading DVD drive. It's a rather disturbing absence, as that remains on the coolest aesthetic features of the console. Is it gone for good? Read the full impressions after the jump.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/28/nintendo-fusion-tour-begins-no-one-listens-to-the-music/">Nintendo Fusion Tour begins, no one listens to the music</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 Sep 2006 08:00:00 EST.
