<br /><strong>[UPDATE - now with video, after the break]</strong><br /><br />BlizzCon brings out the strangest, coolest, and most insanely detailed costumes this side of Outland, and we were front and center at last night's costume contest, hosted by comedian Jay Mohr. He appeared to have taken notes from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/19/watch-activision-alienate-E3-audience-with-jamie-kennedy/">Jamie Kennedy's appearance</a> at E3, and was actually funny instead of stupid.<br /><br />Check out the gallery down below for the highlights, and be sure to take a look at the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/339521/">winning Warlock costume</a>. The girl who designed it was patient enough to pose for a billion photos afterwards with her heavy (and lighted!) helmet, and as far as we know she wore it all night. We even saw her waiting in line for the bus with those wings still on. Most entries were from <em>WoW</em>, but there were a couple of nods to other Blizzard games, including a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/337445/">Terran Ghost</a> from <em>Starcraft</em>.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/">BlizzCon Costumes</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339524"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/sany0071_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339522"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/hpim4842_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339521"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/sany0062_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339519"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/hpim4850_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/blizzcon-costumes-2/#339516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/08/hpim4849_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/04/world-of-warcraft-players-blizzcon-costumes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>World of Warcraft players + BlizzCon = costumes</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/04/world-of-warcraft-players-blizzcon-costumes/">World of Warcraft players + BlizzCon = costumes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2007 16:27:00 EST. In attendance were J. Allen Brack, senior producer for WoW, Rob Pardo, the Senior VP of Game Design for Blizzard, and Frank Pearce, Executive VP of Product Development at Blizzard.<br /><br />One big tidbit that they dropped was the fact that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/03/picture-proof-wrath-of-the-lich-king-is-new-wow-expansion/"><em>The Wrath of the Lich King</em></a> expansion pack may require you to have the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/10/hands-on-with-wow-the-burning-crusade/">Burning Crusade</a></em> as well. Blizzard isn't sure if this will require an additional purchase, or if they will bundle it in at no extra cost. When asked how retailers might react to this, no one had any idea. If you're Joe Retailer and selling copies of <em>Burning Crusade</em> pretty well, will you want to put something on the shelf that will cannibalize those sales, or will you just stop carrying the older title altogether?<br /><br />Another interesting fact is that if you pick up say, the latest expansion pack a couple of years from now, when there are three are four out, will you have to go back and buy the others? That could get potentially very expensive for players who have already shelled out for the base game and are paying $14.95 a month. What are we, made out of gold? We'll follow this as it develops.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/04/blizzcon-breaking-news-wrath-of-the-lich-king-may-require-burni/">BlizzCon breaking news: Wrath of the Lich King may require Burning Crusade</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 04 Aug 2007 14:30:00 EST. Do people even read the quests anymore? By level 60 isn't it just standard ops to find question mark NPC, accept, do the quest (kill, collect or escort), hand in, get phat lootz, rinse and repeat? Sure, it's been the same thing for 70 levels, the same raids over and over again, but can we stop? Can anybody stop? <br /><br />If you haven't taken your first hit of <span style="font-style: italic;">WoW --</span> be happy. If you broke the habit -- be overjoyed. The rest of us are still licking the baby Murloc and just letting the drug course through our veins. How obsessed are <em>WoW</em> addicts? We haven't looked, but we're sure there's a thread on the <span style="font-style: italic;">WoW</span> forums asking where patch 2.2 is already.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.wowinsider.com/">WoWInsider</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/22/wow-patch-2-1-helps-feed-the-habit/">WoW patch 2.1 helps feed the habit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 May 2007 18:47:00 EST. Blizzard began very quietly offering <em>World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade</em> through digital distribution this week.<br /><br />The offer is made every time you start up <em>WoW</em>, so it's not like players who decided to ignore the launch have that option anymore. The expansion costs $39.99 online, the same as in the the stores, preventing the need for pesky poisonous outdoor air to enter one's lungs.<br /><br />The digital distribution question about <em>WoW</em> has been floating around since <em>The Burning Crusade</em> was announced. Guess it was nice for Blizzard to give the brick and mortar stores a chance before they totally cut them off and made their use in <em>Burning Crusade</em> distribution obsolete. Other than those who need the box to feel complete, what's the point of getting the <em>Burning Crusade</em> in a store now? Not to mention that this shows Blizzard will use a similar tactic in future expansions.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/03/wow-burning-crusade-digital-distribution/">WoW: Burning Crusade digital distribution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 Feb 2007 13:30:00 EST. She lists the reasons, with multiple hyperlinks. Anyone who's ever read or listened to complaints about classes in <em>WoW</em> will get a good giggle, or fume with rage; adding more reasons to why Warlocks are overpowered and why Mages are worthless because they're being out-DPSed by shadow priests.<br /><br />Whatever Blizzard is doing with <em>World of Warcraft,</em> they're obviously on the right path. With seven million players currently paying $15 a month, that's a cool $1.26 billion going in the Ironforge vault every year. <em>Burning Crusade</em> launches on Jan 16 and we can't wait to see how Blizzard distributes the millions of copies necessary to satiate even 50 percent of players. Complaining about classes will be the last thing on <em>WoW</em> addict minds when they can't get their <em>Burning Crusade</em> fix at launch.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/07/world-of-warcrafts-list-of-useless-classes/">World of Warcraft's list of useless classes</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 07 Jan 2007 15:41:00 EST. It'll be hitting retail outlets on January 16th, 2007 ... just missing the holiday season by a few weeks, ouch. At least that'll make for more family time together, since you won't be holed up in front of your computer grinding your way up to level 70.<br /><br />"While <em>World of Warcraft </em>has continued to grow rapidly along with its player population, <em>The Burning Crusade</em> will represent our single largest addition of new game content and new features to date," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With this expansion, we're looking forward to offering the same level of quality that players have experienced in <em>World of Warcraft</em> so far, and we'll continue balancing and play-testing up until launch to ensure that <em>The Burning Crusade</em> achieves that goal."<br /><br />You WoWers out there had better party hard through New Years, because you'll be getting a brand-spanking new timesink two weeks later. You can also go for the collector's edition which sports the expansion on both CD-ROM and DVD, the <em>Art of the Burning Crusade</em> coffee table book, *pauses for breath* an exclusive in-game pet, a behind-the-scenes DVD, a <em>World of Warcraft</em> Trading Card Game starter deck and exclusive cards, a map of Outland mouse pad, and the official soundtrack CD *pant, pant -- whew*. That is, if you really want to immerse yourself in it. The wheelbarrow to carry all that stuff home is optional.<br /><br />Trading Card Game starter deck, FTW!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/09/blizzards-world-of-warcraft-the-burning-crusade-to-drop-januar/">Blizzard's World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade to drop January 16</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 09 Nov 2006 11:15:00 EST. If it is real than somebody has been naughty and deserves a spanking. A spanking and a hug from all the <span style="font-style: italic;">World of Warcraft</span> players clamoring for more information and footage regarding the upcoming <span style="font-style: italic;">Burning Crusade</span> expansion.<br /><br />A user created video on GameTrailers apparently <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=14888">reveals</a> environments and mobs from the <em>Burning Crusade's</em> Outlands. The video explains that the footage was captured by placing the <span style="font-style: italic;">Burning Crusade</span> code onto a private server . There are no NPCs or other bells and whistles in the video because it's not on a Blizzard server.<br /><br />So if you feel like being naughty, go take a look. We promise not to tell.<br /><br />[Thanks Brent]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/30/world-of-warcraft-burning-crusade-footage-leak/">World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade footage leak</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 30 Sep 2006 07:00:00 EST.
