<em>Call of Duty: World at War </em>began life right after <em>Call of Duty 3</em>, before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cod4"><em>Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare</em></a> was released. So, following this logic, "there was no modern warfare" when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/call-of-duty-world-at-war/"><em>World at War</em></a> was conceived, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia told Joystiq, responding to skeptics who fear that the series' return to World War II will be a return to mediocrity. In fact, <em>Call of Duty's</em> <strike>"B Team"</strike> alternate developer doesn't consider its next entry a rehash at all. "We don't really look at it like we're going back to World War II," said Lamia. "For [Treyarch], it's totally new."<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">COD: WAW CODE 7: </span><span><font face="Arial" size="2">JWGTP-9FCDW-WVRXM-7XX3M-W76PM</font></span><br /> <br />Lamia pointed to <em>World at War's</em> two-year development cycle as a key factor; a full 12 months more than the team had to complete <em>Call of Duty 3</em>, which, while by no means a commercial or critical failure, stands as a definitive low point for the franchise. "When you got one year, you do what you know, and get it done well -- don't mess around. When you got two years, you have a chance to introduce new gameplay, new elements."<br /><br />Check out our full interview with Treyarch <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/24/joystiq-interviews-mark-lamia-of-treyarch-and-call-of-duty-the-f/">right here</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/23/treyarch-call-of-duty-isnt-going-back-to-wwii/">Treyarch: Call of Duty isn't going 'back' to WWII</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 23 Jun 2008 15:45:00 EST. <p><em>Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/revolutionary/">REVOLUTIONARY</a>, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities. </em><br /></p>
<p><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/retro-metroid-prime-3-was-all-about-proving-the-controller/">Metroid Prime 3</a></em> has proven indeed that a Wii Remote and Nunchuk is the next best thing to a keyboard and mouse for first person shooting and action. Although we have few FPS titles being developed and released on the Wii (relative to party games and family-friendly content, or the main attraction of a certain <a target="_blank" href="http://xbox.joystiq.com/">other platform</a>), the genre is among the most popular in the scripting community. This is naturally so with FPS being a favored genre among hardcore PC gamers and hardware enthusiasts. </p>
<p>With the recent release of the demo version of <em>Call of Duty 4</em> and its imminent final release, I felt it was time to pick up arms and serve you a script for this spectacular shooter.</p><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/revolutionary-answering-the-call/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Revolutionary: Answering the Call</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/23/revolutionary-answering-the-call/">Revolutionary: Answering the Call</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 23 Oct 2007 20:00:00 EST. Well, look no further than Circuit City and the Sunday newspaper ads. This week, Circuit City is slashing $20 off select games including titles like <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=175812&amp;cm_keycode=85">TMNT</a></em> ($29.99), <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=173406&amp;cm_keycode=85">GRAW 2</a></em> ($39.99), <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=176554&amp;cm_keycode=85">Spider-Man 3</a></em> ($39.99) and<em> <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=162060&amp;cm_keycode=85">Call of Duty 3</a></em> ($39.99). Also, since both the Red and Black Edition Player Packs will be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/30/rainbow-six-vegas-red-and-black-edition-now-free/">free downloads</a>, why not pick up <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=163176&amp;cm_keycode=85">Rainbow Six Vegas</a></em> for the low, low price of $39.99 too? You can't pass that up. Maybe new releases are more up your alley, then we advise picking up a free $10 gift card with a <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=180917&amp;cm_keycode=85">Transformers: The Game</a></em> purchase. And if you're in the market for <em><a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=179952&amp;cm_keycode=85">Shadowrun</a></em>, purchase it for $37.99 on Windows Vista and Circuit City will throw in a <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-for-Windows-882224248495/sem/rpsm/oid/172234/catOid/-16483/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do">wireless receiver</a> for free!<br /><br />All deals are available online or in-store, so save a few bucks and pick up some new games to add to your video game library this week.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/01/20-discounts-on-r6-vegas-graw-2-and-more/">$20 discounts on R6 Vegas, GRAW 2 and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 01 Jul 2007 10:00:00 EST. Specifically, the Bravo Map Pack can now be downloaded for 800 points. The pack contains 5 maps, including 2 maps from the original <em>Call of Duty </em>and <em>Call of Duty: United Offensive</em>. The old maps, for old-school <em>COD</em> fans that are dying to know, are Gare Centrale and Marseilles. Gare Centrale features a train depot, which seems like the hot thing in multiplayer maps these days, while Marseilles utilizes open space and lots of vehicles.<br /><br />Anyone plan on grabbing the new maps, or are you comfortable waiting for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/CallofDuty4/">Call of Duty 4</a></em>?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/call-of-duty-3-bravo-map-pack-hits-live/">Joystiq</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/31/new-cod3-maps-storm-xbox-live/">New COD3 maps storm Xbox Live</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 May 2007 13:00:00 EST. This week at <a href="http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Call-of-Duty-3-Gold-Edition-Xbox-360/sem/rpsm/oid/172957/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do">Circuit City</a> you can get the newer 360 version of <em>Call of Duty 3 Gold Edition</em> for only $39.99. Though, it looks like it is sold out online, so you may have to stop by your local store to get this deal. The difference between the original<em> COD 3 </em>and the gold edition is that the gold edition comes with a bonus disc of additional content and a key code to download the Valor Map Pack off of the XBLM for free. That's a $10 savings my friends. See, reading the newspaper can be fun, that is when you find good deals on video games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/call-of-duty-3-ge-gets-the-discount-fever/">Call of Duty 3 GE gets the discount fever</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 20 Mar 2007 11:00:00 EST. In fact, we don't really have any "new" releases this week. Nope, this week it's just one game, and it's actually a re-release anyway. The only game shipping this week is <em>Call of Duty 3: Gold Edition</em>. The game includes a free map pack token (we're not sure if this refers to the Valor map pack or not) and a bonus DVD. Not to be left out, our European readers can finally get their hands on a copy of <em>Samurai Warriors 2: Empires</em>. <br /><br />At least we get <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/12/tmnt-coming-to-arcade-early/"><em>TMNT</em></a> on Arcade this week, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/13/shipping-this-week-more-of-the-same-edition/">Shipping this week: more of the same edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 13 Mar 2007 15:45:00 EST. Last week, <span style="font-style: italic;">Crackdown</span> came on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/26/live-top-ten-agency-ascension/">strong</a> with bronze position on the Live top ten. Now it's <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/03/03/xbox-live-activity-for-week-of-2-26.aspx">swapped</a> spots with <span style="font-style: italic;">Rainbow Six: Vegas</span> as <span style="font-style: italic;">Call of Duty 3</span> continues to be just shy of the podium. <span style="font-style: italic;">GRAW 2</span>'s mulitplayer demo makes a return to take the <span style="font-style: italic;">Crackdown</span> demo's position, which moved to 7th. <span style="font-style: italic;">Madden</span> refuses to budge at sixth while <span style="font-style: italic;">Lost Planet</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Oblivion</span> get nudged to eighth and ninth, respectively. <span style="font-style: italic;">GRAW</span> rounds out the bottom of the list while last, and <span style="font-style: italic;">obviously</span> not least, <span style="font-style: italic;">Gears of War</span> retains its top spot over all of Xbox Live-dom. Do you feel slightly confused? If so, our simple, yet eloquent list awaits your review after the break, complete with last weeks standings in parentheses.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/05/live-top-ten-sin-city-descends/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Live top ten: Sin City descends</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/05/live-top-ten-sin-city-descends/">Live top ten: Sin City descends</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 Mar 2007 19:15:00 EST. This week is no <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/02/17/xbox-live-activity-for-week-of-2-12.aspx">different</a>, bringing a forth into the fold, ironically taking the forth spot. Of course, we're talking about the <em>Def Jam: Icon</em> demo. <em>Gears of War</em> and <em>Rainbow Six: Vegas</em> continue to dominate and hold onto their stranglehold for the top spots. <em>COD3</em> moved into bronze position, pushing <em>Crackdown</em> to fifth behind the aforementioned new demo. <em>Madden, Lost Planet, NBA Street</em> and <em>Oblivion</em> stay put, and <em>GRAW 2</em>'s demo replaces its predecessor in tenth place. Take a gander at our handy dandy list after the break.<u><br />

    <li>Being booted to the menu screen when the lobby countdown reaches zero (in ranked matches)</li>
    <li>Falling through the map when a ranked match begins</li>
</ul>
Should we forgive and forget?<br /><br /> [Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/01/25/fixed-map-pack-and-update-soon-for-cod3/" target="_blank">Xbox 360 Fanboy</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/25/call-of-duty-3-valor-map-pack-take-two/">Call of Duty 3 Valor Map Pack, take two</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jan 2007 21:25:00 EST. Following the discovery of this error, the developers promised that a fix was coming. One of the games developers, known on the Xbox.com forums as AxisOf3vil, has <a href="http://forums.xbox.com/9720092/ShowPost.aspx">announced</a> that a fix will be available in the "very near future." Accompanying the re-release of the Valor Map pack will be an update to <em>Call of Duty 3</em> that should fix two of its major problems. The update should keep players from being booted out of a ranked match lobby when the countdown hits zero, and it should fix an issue that causes players to fall out of the map at the beginning of ranked matches. <br /><br />The maps and the update are undergoing final testing and should be released soon.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xboxic.com/news/2293">Xboxic</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/25/fixed-map-pack-and-update-soon-for-cod3/">Fixed map pack and update soon for COD3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 25 Jan 2007 15:30:00 EST. Naturally, most of the frustration stems from the fact that players paid 800 MS points ($10) for the Valor Map Pack, only to have it run and hide somewhere on the console's hard drive. <br /><br />Major Nelson <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/01/18/call-of-duty-3-valor-map-pack.aspx">assures us</a> that Microsoft and the developer are actively working on the problem, pointing toward <a href="http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=9720092">this thread</a> on the official Xbox forum as a source of progress updates (<em>none</em> at time of writing). Best hold off on reeling in the <em>COD</em> maps (<em>OOF!</em>) until the rather blatant issue has been resolved. Did the certification department not realize that discretion is the <em>worst</em> part of the Valor Map Pack? We have numerous readers reporting that once the maps are downloaded, they are not recognized on the 360 or within <em>Call of Duty 3</em>. It's reported that MS Points <em>are</em> debited when this happens, so prospective buyers may want to wait until Microsoft and Treyarch come up with a fix. <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/01/18/call-of-duty-3-valor-map-pack.aspx">Major Nelson</a> advises that you keep an eye on this Xbox.com <a href="http://forums.xbox.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=9720092">forum post</a> for updates. Karsten of <a href="http://games.shizzle.be/2007/01/10/morgen-gratis-call-of-duty-3-map-op-xblm/">Shizzle Games</a> told us of a post on Major Nelson detailing the new content. Those of you with an RSS reader may have seen it pop up, too. The post is gone now, but a quick <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/search.aspx?q=champs&amp;p=1">search</a> shows the same post, only it's dated for January 11, tomorrow. Major Nelson's clock must be running fast, because <em>Ms. Pac-Man</em> <a href="http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/01/09/arcade-ms-pacman.aspx">showed up</a> on his site yesterday, even though it wasn't released until this morning. But there you have it, expect a free new map for <em>Call of Duty 3</em> tomorrow. This could also mean that we'll see the Valor Map pack -- containing 5 maps for 800 points -- release tomorrow as well.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/10/cod3-map-hits-marketplace-tomorrow/">COD3 map hits Marketplace tomorrow?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Jan 2007 15:30:00 EST. This patch should address several issues in the game, but most importantly, it makes ranked matches (both Custom and Quick Match) join lobbies much faster. There are also some minor HUD improvements, and the option to punish team killing medics. Find full details of the patch on <a href="http://forums.xbox.com/8976537/ShowPost.aspx">Xbox.com</a>. There will be two pieces of content available: a free "Bonus Map" and a premium "Valor Map Pack" for 800 points. The bonus map is called "Champs" and sees players facing off in Port Royal de Champs, France. The map should fare well for smaller and mid-sized games. The "Valor Map Pack" will include 5 new maps, all set in France, and promises plenty of close quarters combat. For the moment, the content has no official release date, but we'd say it's a safe bet that it won't arrive before the New Year.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/20/cod3-content-called-to-marketplace-soon/">COD3 content called to Marketplace soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Dec 2006 13:45:00 EST. If you've been paying attention to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/14/metareview-resistance-fall-of-man-ps3/"><em>Resistance</em></a>, you'll know that it <em>can</em> be great. However, <em>Call of Duty 3</em> paints a different picture. Gamespot's <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/callofduty3/review.html?page=1">review</a> of <em>COD3</em> for the PS3 cites a couple of noticeable differences between the PS3 version and its 360 cousin. The first difference: the PS3 has a choppy frame rate that makes the game a chore occasionally. We'll chalk that up to Treyarch being unfamiliar with the PS3. The differences in online play, on the other hand, are more fundamental. The PS3 version offers 24 players online, just like the 360 version. Unfortunately, only one person per PS3 can go online versus the 360 version's four. Also, there is no ranked play available, a feature that is standard on 360 thanks to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/06/trueskill-matchmaking-demystified/">TrueSkill</a>. <br /><br />If Sony continues to put the onus on developers to create online features, we can only assume that online options will always be superior on the 360, at least when it comes to cross-platform titles. What do you think? Does the fact that Sony's service is free outweigh the depth of features available through Xbox Live?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/16/cod3-is-best-on-360-in-more-ways-than-one/">COD3 is best on 360, in more ways than one</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Nov 2006 13:30:00 EST. Games-Aktuell, a German gaming outlet, has discovered that <em>Call of Duty 3</em> and <em>Tony Hawk's Project 8 </em>are not running at a 720p high-def resolution.</p>
<p>When the tests were run, <em>CoD3</em> was shown to be running at 1040x620 pixels and <em>THP8</em> at 1040x584 pixels. The pixel drop reflects a resolution drop of 30% and 34%, respectively<em>. The resolution drop could be assumed to help keep framerates up, but <em>THP8</em> reportedly has framerate problems. So what's up?<br /></em></p>
<em> </em>
<p><em>Activision Germany told Cynamite.de that they weren't aware of the problem and are looking into it. Lower resolution is not something that normally just happens by accident, but given the recent <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/09/cod2-vets-have-flashbacks-in-cod3-multiplayer/">quality assurance problems</a> with <em>CoD3</em>, these resolution problems may just be another woeful mistake. If intentional, why the resolution drop in <span style="font-style: italic;">THP8</span> when the 360 is clearly powerful enough to handle something like <em>Gears of War</em> just fine?</em></p>

CVG lists the 360 version for November 10th, well before any other version (the PS3 version is set for March 07). Curiously absent from Activision's announcement is the date for the Xbox version. CVG speculates that this could mean the Xbox version has been canceled. It seems doubtful, but <em>COD2</em> is the 360's first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/12/call-of-duty-2-is-first-game-to-sell-1m-units-on-xbox-360/">million seller</a>. Maybe Activision and Mircrosoft are hoping <em>COD3</em> will drive sales of the 360. Regardless, 360 owners will be the first to play. <br /><br />We can't help but note that it's going to be <em>impossible</em> to sample all the 360 goodness this holiday. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/16/behold-the-gow-collectors-tin/"><em>Gears of War</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/13/phantasy-star-universe-beta-is-live/"><em>Phantasy Star</em></a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/14/multiplayer-double-agent-demo/"><em>Splinter Cell</em></a>, <em>Viva Pi&ntilde;ata</em>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/13/rainbox-six-character-creation-video/"><em>R6 Vegas</em></a>, the list just keeps going. <p>The <em>Call of Duty</em> series has been praised for intense cinematics, great multiplayer modes and more. <em>Call of Duty 3</em>, unlike other installments, allows players to fight for four different sides (America, Britain, Canada and Poland) through the Normandy Breakout. If you slept through history class like we did, educate yourself <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Normandy">here</a>.</p>
<p><em>Call of Duty 3</em> is promising a lot to players with interviews from actual soldiers to no loading bar when switching sides. Unfortunately there won't be an online mode for Wii players but we don't care do we? While those suckers are using analog sticks to turn, aim and throw grenades, we get to use our arms like big girls and boys.</p>
<p>Check out a few new screens after the break!</p>

We waged a vicious and hard-fought campaign against the ruthless receptionist who finally let us into the trenches to get some game on.<br /><br />Controversy strikes! Yes, the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii versions of the game are graphically different. Looking across the field of battle through the field glasses on the 360 looked crisp and sharp. Running through a forest full of hidden Germans looked photorealistic, even with falling leaves that you could zoom in on and see every close-up detail. Running through burned out buildings on the Wii looked ... GameCubish. We pressed the Treyarch to tell us which version they favored, but they resisted our interrogation. Something was amiss, and headquarters didn't want us to know about it. Loose lips sink ships and all that.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/06/joystiq-hands-on-call-of-duty-3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq hands-on: Call of Duty 3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/06/joystiq-hands-on-call-of-duty-3/">Joystiq hands-on: Call of Duty 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 06 Oct 2006 15:28:00 EST. Now, before you wet yourself with excitement -- it's okay, it happens to the best of us -- realize that this video is <em>tiny</em>. That, and you will likely have to sit through an advertisement in order to watch it. Still, there are some nice things going on for those who care to look. The depth of field effect when zooming in is very nice. Also noticeable is seeing the muzzle flash from your gun reflect on the gun itself. I've always found war games to be sort of "samey," but <em>COD3</em> has definitely got the look. No <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/31/arabic-product-placement-cod2/">Coke ads</a> in there, though.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17120">Evil Avatar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/31/see-call-of-duty-3-in-motion/">See Call of Duty 3 in motion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 31 Aug 2006 23:00:00 EST. With the new Close Combat feature, you can do more than just bash a Nazi or two, allowing you to disarm traps such as mines, even going so far as to plant your own. Also, the game is to incorporate more destructible environments, causing the days of wood being able to block grenades without so much as denting to become a thing of the past.<br /><br />Considering that Treyarch, who was responsible for <em>Call of Duty: Finest Hour</em> and <em>Call of Duty 2: Big Red One</em>, which were a bit less enjoyable than the original <em>Call of Duty</em> and its expansion pack in <em>United Offensive</em>, along with the sequel on the PC, should we expect <em>Call of Duty 3</em> to have the same problems as their past efforts on consoles? We sure hope not as the <em>Call of Duty</em> franchise has been the only enjoyable WWII shooter for quite some time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/11/call-of-duty-3-trailers-and-screens/">Call of Duty 3 trailers and screens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Jul 2006 11:30:00 EST.
