Update: After playing a single online game, EA's servers booted us right out of play and wouldn't allow us to reconnect. We'll reschedule a real event soon.

You may have noticed some of our regular features have been MIA in recent weeks. In order to prepare for E3 and make time (and room) for special features, some of our content has been put on a temporary hiatus. Until the madness that is E3 subsides we're putting a hold on Community Content, Would You Rather and Points>Life -- technically, just Xav. You may see random special editions of our content during the event as special bonuses, but we're just giving you the heads up incase you were wondering where your favorite feature is.

As you may be aware, if you listened to the latest X3F Fancast -- Richard, Dustin and Alexander will be bringing the show on the road with special podcasts as E3 progresses. It's another way we're keeping everyone at home up to date while allowing the home crew to recharge the batteries.

One thing we can't put on hold for now is X3F Live and considering the popularity of Battlefield: Bad Company on our friends list we're going to be game hunting later tonight (again, just Xav). So tonight from 9 to 10 PM EST watch out for Gamertag: Snypz and hopefully we can cause some mayhem together. This isn't an organized event, but Xav is looking for some game time before the craziness takes over!
X3F Live invades Battlefield, update on features [Update] originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 08 Jul 2008 17:15:00 EST. On top of our regular community contributed content for Halo 3, we're browsing through the most popular Bungie.Net downloads as a second recommendation.

Yes, Community Content has doubled in size! We're giving away double the dose of content. Two maps for the price of one. Well, considering they're free--for the price of zero. While it might sound like the same thing, it's considerably different. In OberionTheGreat an attacking crew begins with normal weapons and a few extra vehicles and must infiltrate the docked ship in order to capture their flag and score one for the people of the planet.

Add to this a barrage of fusion cores (which I kept calling coils in the video, cuz I'm awesome) and a few hidden surprises and this one could turn out to be another icy trip into a space siege. In Dead City, human players must survive for five minutes as they wait for emergency evacuation from a contaminated village. Utilizing two bases connected by a barricaded catwalk, humans have few weapons at their disposal as they fight to stay alive.

Dead City is unique because it utilizes a day and night cycle. Using the newly added filters in Halo 3, the map changes from Day to dusk to dawn. As it gets more and more difficult to see the tension to survive the winding clock rises. A closed off interior lined with vehicles, strategic equipment placements and a single territory that gives the controlling team dibs on the lone tank makes this version of Rat's Nest into something fierce. With the Legendary map pack Bungie has been rather quiet regarding any sort of new Forge features. Until now. This week Bungie went all out, revealing the specialized Forge items for each of the three Legendary maps. Avalanche has walls, corners, ramps and watchtowers. Blackout has ramps and doors to block off room interiors. And Ghost Town has ramps, bridges and scaffolding.

The real star of the show however, are Forge Filters (see above for a preview of a few). Forge Filters are: "forge objects that change the camera settings to create a variety of effects." Have you ever placed your camera in a very specific location to achieve a precise image effect? Say inside of an explosion or something? Now with Forge Filters, you can CHOOSE the image effect you want applied to you image. And from ANY camera position, even during gameplay!

Wow. Do want.
Bungie WWU: Legendary Forge Filters, Items originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 20:00:00 EST. Tonight, in a rare non-achievement boosting event, X3F will host X3F Live. Tonight's event? An hour long romp in 2Fort Classic from this week's Community Content!

Tonight at 8PM EST join some of the crew in, what is sure to be an epic 8v8 match of multi flag carnage in Halo 3 using our user submitted downloadable content*!

But that's not all. While our friends lists have been filled to the brim we realized there may be very little interaction between the readers so we've magicked up a solution that's been around for a while.

Simply add the gamertag X3FLIVE to your Xbox 360 Friends List and you'll be able to see when other X3F readers are online using the "Friends of Friends" feature! Now, coordinate gaming sessions with your fellow X3F Army recruits any time you go online!

We'll open the game at 8PM EST and the first readers to join will be able to play a few rounds, and then we'll cycle a new game for a new batch of readers. That is if anyone can make it to our very short notice session at all!

*In order to play 2Fort Classic you are required to download the Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack, which is available on the Xbox Live Markeplace for free!
X3F Live: Halo 3 tonight and our new Social Gamertag for the X3F Army originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 04 Apr 2008 17:00:00 EST. This week we bring you an F1 caliber race map that's so classy it only needs to be called RACE2 but after some in-house tweaks we've re-imagined the original map submitted by a loyal X3F soldier and renamed it to the X3F Speedway.

Deviously tight corners and strategically designed checkpoints lace a weaving variation of Sandtrap to make this one of the best constructed pure race maps online.

Including two gametypes, X3F Speedway can be enjoyed solo in X3F Solo-Ninja or in a two-person team rocket race in X3F Escort Rockets. Either way you slice it, it's pure fun.
This week in Community Content we tackle a cool single-VIP gametype called, Prez on the map The Alley. Strapping into this VIP chair you act as the President, you're thrust into bad situation where it's you against everyone. Everyone is trying to take out the Prez as he/she navigates the harsh back alley built inside of Foundry.

We tried to get people to play with us during the X3F TV walkthrough of The Alley, but we couldn't find anyone around. Actually, we thought we saw something there ... but maybe it was our imagination! For now, check out the regular strategy guide and read up on our new favorite gametype and map; Prez on The Alley.

Continue reading Community Content: Hail To The Chief Edition

Community Content: Hail To The Chief Edition originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 20 Mar 2008 18:25:00 EST.
Welcome to another installment of Community Content. Here are X3F the most important thing we do is delivering the news and this week's content is all about that. It's a one bomb variant called Explosive News where the army of X3F tipsters (that's you) need to deliver the hottest industry news (the bomb) to the computer in Fanboy Towers.

Work as a team in this one because since it requires the map X3F Wars, you know that there is little room for error. Have fun with this one folks and we hope to see you online!

Continue reading Community Content: Breaking News Edition

Community Content: Breaking News Edition originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 13 Mar 2008 16:00:00 EST. Apart from having a brand new map and gametype for you this week, we also have a spiffy new banner made by our new(er) guy Terrence. You wouldn't know it unless we told you but those four Spartan soldiers are actually the avatar's of the entire X3F staff! In order from left to right, with our Gamertags: Richard (SenseiRAM), Dustin (SuperDunners), Xav (Snypz) and Terrence (EnlightenedApe).

This week's Community Content comes from a soldier so loyal to the X3F Army that his entire submission was based on Xbox360Fanboy.com! We're throwing the community a curve this week with one of the coolest files we've seen in a while. Instead of your standard map or game type variant this week we bring you a maze. Boxed In is simple in theory, make you way to the final room and leave the area. However, somethings are easier said than done.
