It was that not entirely unlike Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland minigame collection set in a Pokemon-themed poke-themepark, remember? You and Pikachu had to complete minigames and make new pokepals in order to collect the 14 missing Sky Prism pieces for Mew. Really? Not ringing any bells? Well, Nintendo and Creatures Inc remember it, and they're making another one.

The latest issue of CoroCoro Comics has revealed PokePark 2: Beyond the World, headed to the Wii (in Japan, at least) this winter. Pikachu returns as the title's star pocket monster, bringing with him additional playable pals and 4 person multiplayer. No further details are available at the moment, but Tokyo Game Show's imminent hugeness looms over the horizon in a reassuring fashion.

Though it's certainly not the console debut that fans really want, this happens to be the first console Pokémon game developed by Creatures Inc., creators of the main handheld series.

The game involves Pikachu competing and cooperating with other Pokemans in a sort of theme park through, according to Andriasang, "tag, battle, and quiz mini-games." The game emphasizes Pikachu's interactions with his new friends and includes a camera mode to allow you to photograph the Pokémon you meet.

Pokémon spinoff games exist primarily as a Pokémon delivery service for owners of the real games. Of course, it's preferable for the actual gameplay to be as pleasant as possible, since a bunch of money and time goes into procuring that Pokémon. The first Pokémon Ranger was among the more tolerable spinoff games: a light action-RPG with extremely simple, but enjoyable, gameplay. The sequel, Shadows of Almia, streamlines the gameplay even more.

Oh, and you can get a Manaphy, a Riolu, and a Darkrai out of it.

I had never played the original Pokémon Ranger, mostly because I'm extremely wary of Pokémon spinoffs. But I read enough to know that, for better or worse, the sequel, Shadows of Almia, is more of the same, with slight tweaks.

Before I talk about the game, I'd like to offer my impressions-within-impressions of the title: I'm disappointed that NOA decided to use such a generic fantasy-game subtitle over the jaunty "Batonnage," though I understand the reasoning (the reasoning being what the hell is "batonnage"). It's not as if anyone was ever going to call this anything but Pokémon Ranger 2 anyway.

At their E3 keynote, Nintendo revealed that the Pokémon Ranger series would be getting a second installment in the United States. Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia will be gracing the DS on November 10th of this year.

Pokémon Ranger Batonnage doesn't seem to include any major alterations to the Ranger gameplay. See Pokemans, draw circles around them, and catch them (all). Pokémon fans have come to expect sequels with identical gameplay by now, we think: the main series, after all, is the same game over and over again, just refined each time.

The latest gameplay video shows one area in which Batonnage has improved upon its predecessor: Bidoof content. The once-Bidoof-free series is now crawling with dopey-looking Bidoofs. Bidooves? Oh, there's also Wi-Fi, but this video doesn't show it, and who cares about other people when there are so many Bidoofs out there? Really, we just like saying the word "Bidoof."

Fans of the Pokemon franchise (see: uh, everyone?) and, more specifically, the Pokemon Ranger franchise, were ecstatic to hear (and see) that a sequel to the touch-screen-intensive game is coming. Well, prepare to become even more excited, as we've got a gallery of images for you to go through below, as well as a link to the Japanese commercial for the game. What else could you ask for?

Oh, right ... an actual copy of the game. Well, you'll have to wait a bit on that one.

Everybody should be cheered by the recent news of a sequel to Pokémon Ranger. That is, everybody but our touchscreens. As this first trailer for Pokémon Ranger: Batonnage reveals, the game looks like yet another excuse to happily gouge away at our poor DSes as we feverishly round up Pokémon.

Away from the abuse of innocent touchscreens, it's also revealed that Batonnage will feature a Wi-Fi mode, though details on how this will work aren't particularly clear. Stay tuned, Pokéfans.

Nintendo stated that the game will be coming to Japan on March 20th, and will be called Pokemon Ranger Batonnage. Using the word "batonnage" makes us wonder if we'll be able to drink fine wines with the Pokemon in the game. The least we could do after catching the critters, enslaving them, and forcing them to fight is give them a nice glass of Château de Pikachu, don't you think?

Other then a confirmation and a Japanese release date, not much is known about the title. It shouldn't be long before information about an international release surfaces, though.
