It's possible that this may be the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/17/report-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-devs-working-on-vita-title/">Criterion-developed</a> Need for Speed game the rumor mill was churning over a couple weeks ago, but that's just rampant speculation on our part.<br /><br />It's also possible that TwitchTV could merely be showing off <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19le0dRQY1k">the Game Boy Advance port</a> of the original or something, we're going to go ahead and assume that isn't the case since we don't live in a Far Side cartoon.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: We have also received the schedule in question and can confirm that <em>Need for Speed: Most Wanted</em> is indeed among TwitchTV's on-site programming for E3, along with "TBA" titles from Ubisoft, Capcom and Warner Bros. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/26/report-need-for-speed-most-wanted-listed-on-e3-booth-schedul/">Report: 'Need for Speed: Most Wanted' listed on E3 booth schedule [Update: Yup!]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 May 2012 16:30:00 EST. Superannuation spotted a job listing for a software engineer that at one point reportedly listed "optimising and tuning the game resource system for the PS Vita" as part of the position's overview. The listing was seemingly altered since, as it now reads, "Optimizing and tuning the game resource system for other platforms."<br /><br />Aside from the bite-sized <em>Burnout Crash</em> launched on XBLA last year, Criterion Games has been rather quiet for the past couple years. The team's last console release was the fantastic <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit </em>in 2010, and many expect that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/12/report-game-outs-new-need-for-speed-reaffirms-medal-of-honor-s/">next Need for Speed entry</a> will be handled once again by Criterion. We've yet to hear a peep from the studio in 2012, but E3 isn't too far away.<br /><br />We contacted Criterion's parent company, EA, for comment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/17/report-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-devs-working-on-vita-title/">Report: Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit devs working on Vita title</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 May 2012 10:00:00 EST. <img alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/burnoutcrashscreens1.jpg" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; width: 530px; height: 298px; " /></div>
As anyone who possesses the required documentation and vehicular means can attest, it is not terribly difficult to crash a car. There are countless laws and infrastructural guidelines designed to keep your automobile from touching anything but the ground beneath it -- ignoring just one is enough to cause a horrific, steel-twisting wreck. If impulse, not reason, guided your hands-on-wheels and feet-on-pedals, then the act of safe driving would be exponentially more difficult than the dangerous variety.<br />
<br />
Perplexingly, Criterion Games has centered the focus of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/burnout-crash"><em>Burnout Crash</em></a> on a task that's even more difficult, and more obscure than avoiding collisions with other automotive objects: In <em>Burnout Crash</em>, you must collide with <em>all</em> the other automotive objects. Harsh penalties await for players who let chunks of traffic slip through their grasp, bringing you to a haunting realization: You're not orchestrating symphonies of coordinated property damage, you're committing <em>automotive genocide</em>.<br />

After yesterday's discovery of new Achievements arriving in this week's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</a></em> patch -- cheevos that hinted at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/16/nfs-hot-pursuit-patch-achievements-hint-at-porsche-vs-lamborg/">Lamborghini and Porsche DLC</a> -- EA today issued a press releasing detailing three new DLC packs launching over the next three weeks starting on February 22. And wouldn't you know it, two of the packs happen to be themed after the aforementioned luxury car brands; "Lamborghini Untamed" adds three Lambos and 10 new events, while "Porsche Untamed" brings two Porsches and 10 more new events. <br />
<br />
Kicking the tires on the three weeks of DLC is the "Armed and Dangerous" pack, which adds two modes: "Most Wanted", described as "an open-world battle where the cops are out to bust a specific racer while the racers battle to protect them, making full use of the open world, weaponry and demanding team tactics," and "Arms Race," which EA details as "every man for himself as racers use their full arsenal of weaponry on each other in ruthless races to the finish." Armed and Dangerous arrives next week for $7, with Lamborghini Untamed and Porsche Unleashed launching in subsequent weeks at the same price. <br />
<br />
As detailed on the <a href="http://www.needforspeed.com/post/hot-pursuit-title-update-12-arrives">Need for Speed Blog</a>, folks interested in snagging the forthcoming DLC will have to download this week's patch (version 1.2) first, which must be manually downloaded on Xbox 360s (<a href="http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Need-for-Speed-Hot-Pursuit-v12/1fcec34b-8cd6-4df0-a3c8-68d8ace830b9">via the Marketplace</a>) since the 257MB patch handily exceeds the console's maximum size for an automatic Title Update. The PlayStation 3 update is automatically triggered upon startup.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/17/nfs-hot-pursuit-getting-three-new-dlc-packs-in-the-next-three-w/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>NFS: Hot Pursuit getting three new DLC packs in the next three weeks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/17/nfs-hot-pursuit-getting-three-new-dlc-packs-in-the-next-three-w/">NFS: Hot Pursuit getting three new DLC packs in the next three weeks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 17 Feb 2011 13:43:00 EST. So, you've finally managed to topple the impossibly low track times set by your unlawful friends in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Need for Speed Hot Pursuit</em></a>, learning how to handle the game's fastest, most reckless automobiles along the way. The <a href="http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=536142">"Super Sports" DLC pack</a>, due out on December 21 on Xbox 360, and December 22 on PSN, will to add 13 new events and three cars to the game: The Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the GUMPERT Apollo S and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. We bet they're as difficult to drive as they are to pronounce.<br />
<br />
The pack will run you $6.99 USD (560 Microsoft Points), which might seem like a bit much for three new cars and 13 new races. Still, think of the joy you'll get when driving the Bugatti Veyron while playing on the law enforcement team, effectively turning yourself into the world's <em>fanciest</em> cop.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/10/three-new-supercars-pulling-into-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-dlc/">Three new supercars pulling into Need for Speed Hot Pursuit DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Dec 2010 12:00:00 EST. If so, that moderate, casual fandom could be rewarded with free DLC.<br />
<br />
EA is offering a free three-pack of downloadable cars, including the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 650-4 Roadster, and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition -- if this latest trailer reaches one million views by December 12. We've embedded it after the break in such a manner as to encourage views. We'll stop short of telling you to Rickroll your friends with it, but if we've accidentally planted the idea in your mind, there's just nothing we can do about that.<br />

[Thanks, Alexander]<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">EA hosted a launch party for its new <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em></a> game last night at the Avalon nightclub in Hollywood. Among the celebrities and performers Chiddy Bang, we found Criterion Games' creative director Craig Sullivan right before he introduced the game to the audience. "It's been amazing," he said of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-review/">the response to the game</a> so far. <br />
<br />
"We're really really happy with it." Sullivan's been a fan of <em>Need for Speed </em>since <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Need_for_Speed">the original 3DO game</a>, and along with the rest of Criterion, he says he was thrilled to get the chance to make an official title. "When we got our shot at the title, everybody was really up for it and we just kind of went crazy."<br />
<br />
We asked about DLC for the game, but Sullivan was still mum. "Given the fact that Criterion Games did a year of downloadable content for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>," he admitted, "I would be very surprised if we didn't do any followups or downloadable content for <em>Need for Speed</em>." But when pressed on what that DLC might be, he declined to comment until later on.<br />
<br />
Still, the party was a good time -- EA invited about 5,000 members of the public to come enjoy the game in a club that only held about 2,000 people. You can see pictures of the event in the gallery below.</div>

In case the flood of promotional messages from your friends hasn't tipped you off yet, here's some news: a lot of people have checked out <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/25/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-limited-time-demo-coming-oct-26/">the <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em> demo</a> on Xbox Live and PSN. According to some stats from EA, "more than" two million consoles downloaded the demo within the span of two weeks, making it the most successful demo for the series yet.<br />
<br />
Throughout their time with the demo, players have raced across 54 million miles of road in Seacrest County, resulting in over 20 million busts by law enforcement. If you were looking to get in on either side of the conflict, we're afraid you can no longer download the demo. But! We've got the next best thing: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-review/">our review of the game</a>!. <br />
<br />
<em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em> launches on November 16 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Windows PC.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/10/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-demo-downloaded-over-two-million-tim/">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit demo downloaded over two million times</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Nov 2010 21:00:00 EST. It's been a good year to be a fan of arcade-style racing games, with <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/04/blur-game-review/">Blur</a> </em>and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/17/review-split-second/">Split/Second</a> </em>neck-and-neck in the race to be the year's best. Unfortunately for them, <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em> from <em>Burnout Paradise </em>creator Criterion Games just took first place.<br />
<br />
For the reboot of this <em>Need for Speed</em> sub-series, which saw two installments across PS1 and PS2, Criterion has created a racer that not only lives up to expectations of thrilling speed and pristine visuals but blows past them with a cops-and-robbers career mode.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-11-9-10/">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (review)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-11-9-10/#3555088"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/nfshpalfaromeo8ccompetizione_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-11-9-10/#3555089"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/nfshpaudittrscoupe_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-11-9-10/#3555090"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/nfshpbugattiveyron_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-11-9-10/#3555091"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/nfshpchevroletcamaross_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-11-9-10/#3555093"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/11/nfshpdodgechallengersrt8cop_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit review: More than satisfies the need</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/09/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-review/">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit review: More than satisfies the need</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Nov 2010 17:00:00 EST. What's all this, then? You'd fancy a five minute clip of British actors portraying the events of a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</a></em> race? Brilliant, as EA's just sent one over! Perhaps you don't have a full five to sit around? A more condensed vid is available as well, both found after the break. <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em> wants you to believe Seacrest County is a "driver's paradise," but we feel this latest trailer ignores the best thing Seacrest has to offer: Se&ntilde;or Guapo's Bakery on Alameda boulevard. Seriously, don't visit just to drive around, go have <em>the churro of your life</em>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/04/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-trailer-tours-seacrest-county/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit trailer tours Seacrest County</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/04/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-trailer-tours-seacrest-county/">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit trailer tours Seacrest County</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Nov 2010 19:45:00 EST. EA has developed one of the most perplexing ad campaigns we've ever seen to promote its upcoming racer, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em></a>. It's a five-part <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o77dKDdhcV0&amp;p=6F3213D597078FE2&amp;playnext=1">mini-series</a> following the shenanigans of two valets, one of which is also secretly a renegade cop (?), and one of which is also a street racer (?). Of course, they don't bust fools or drive fast in these ads. They park cars, because they're valets. Sometimes, they don't park the cars<span style="font-style: italic;">, b</span><em>ecause they're edgy</em>.<br />
<br />
Oh, and they're played by Jerry Ferrara and Kevin Dillon, whom you may know from the hit television series <em>Entourage</em>, or, if you're not an HBO subscriber, <em>Hotel for Dogs</em>. Check out the first two entries into this commercial series, titled "Officer Douche" and "You Park It," respectively, after the jump. After that, join us in wishing that these ads get their own spin-off television show, <em>Cavemen</em>-style. We'd love to see the complexities of these characters unfold, you know?<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/theres-a-lot-going-on-in-these-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-comm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>There's a lot going on in these Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit commercials</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/02/theres-a-lot-going-on-in-these-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-comm/">There's a lot going on in these Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit commercials</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 02 Nov 2010 22:40:00 EST. We've got a <em>need</em> -- a <em>need</em> for temporarily available demos of racing games that'll be available publicly in a few weeks, anyway. EA's bringin' it, with a <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</a></em> demo that will be available on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network from tomorrow until November 9 (the demo goes live on PSN in Europe on the 27th). The publisher didn't explain the reason for the demo's temporary availability, instead focusing on the details of the forthcoming trial. <br />
<br />
Both "Dark Horse" and "Roadster's Reborn" game modes will be included. The former is the standard cops and robbers/cat and mouse scenario, while the latter offers ghost car time trials to compete against. The game's "autolog" social networking feature plays heavily into the second game mode, only unlocking after players add friends into their "<em>Need for Speed</em> friends list." We look forward to reevaluating our "friends" once it becomes impossible to beat some of their track times.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/25/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-limited-time-demo-coming-oct-26/">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit limited time demo coming Oct. 26</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Oct 2010 10:55:00 EST. Though we would have assumed that the Seacrest Police was a force responsible for monitoring and punishing the behavior of a certain <em>American Idol</em> host, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em></a> trailer posted below is evidence that this assumption was very, very stupid. EA is bringing some of its biggest properties to iOS, the company revealed during a recent presentation at the Apple Store in Ginza, Tokyo. Aside from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/07/nba-elite-11-still-coming-this-month-to-iphone/">the numerous titles already revealed last week</a>, EA is currently working on ports of <em>Dead Space 2</em>, <em>Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit</em>, and even an ad-supported, subscription-optional version of Pogo, the company's casual online games portal. There will also be an <em>EA Active</em> presence on Apple's devices, as well as a version of <em>Monopoly</em>. <br />
<br />
Also, the other properties EA has lined up include an adaptation of the board game <em>Pictureka!</em> and a new racer called <em>Reckless</em> -- formerly known as <em>Deliverace</em>. If you're wondering, "Why the name change?" then clearly you've never <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068473/">spent time on</a> the Cahulawassee River. Nobody wants to be reminded of that "vacation."<br />
<br />

In <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit"><em>Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit</em></a>, there's an in-game social suite called Autolog. It allows players to compare progress and connect through various features -- actually, the people who created it would do a better job describing it, so head past the break for a brief video overview.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/14/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-dev-diary-introduces-autolog/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit dev diary introduces Autolog</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/14/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-dev-diary-introduces-autolog/">Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit dev diary introduces Autolog</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 08:30:00 EST. In the latest issue of <a href="http://www.gamestm.co.uk/interviews/skate-or-die-how-criterion%E2%80%99s-cancelled-remake-led-to-burnout-3/">GamesTM</a>, Criterion Games creative director Alex Ward dishes news on a <em>Skate or Die</em> remake that EA offered his studio back in 2002, which was eventually canned by Criterion. This, Ward says, soured relations between the developer and EA for some time, effectively killing Criterion's pitch on a <em>Need for Speed</em> title -- titled "Need for Speed: Split Second," <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/splitsecond">if you can believe it</a>. "We called a meeting with the EA guys, told them we were walking away [from <em>Skate or Die</em>] and they went mad," Ward said. "threatening to sue us, put us out of business ... there was a lot of anger and frustration. Then we got a call from the <em>Need For Speed</em> guys and they said 'we can't work with you guys any more; you just walked away and there's a shame on your company, so we can't talk to you.'" <br />
<br />
Though the pitch was killed, Criterion instead got to work on developing its <em>Burnout</em> series and is now developing another reboot for EA: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</a></em>. It also appears that the direction in which <em>Skate or Die</em>'s remake was going -- a more realistic, simulation-style skateboarding game -- eventually became EA's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/skate">Skate</a></em> franchise. "I wanted to explore what it was like to just go out for a skate and have that feeling of just doing whatever you want. There was that experience from when I went skating in real life that just wasn't captured in videogames. I wanted to be able to get off the board," says Criterion dev Craig Sullivan. There are said to be many more interesting tidbits in the issue, which hits newsstands on September 5.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/30/criterion-once-pitched-need-for-speed-split-second-worked-on/">Criterion once pitched 'Need for Speed: Split Second,' worked on Skate or Die remake</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 30 Aug 2010 21:00:00 EST. This freshly released gameplay trailer for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit</a> </em>from <em>Burnout </em>vets Criterion Games has us in a hot pursuit of a controller with which we can play more of this blistering-fast racer. The footage features cops versus racers in both day and night settings, the latter we're pretty sure was put in the game just to show off the police car lights bathing passing cars and scenery in their red and blue beams.<br />
<br />
The video begins and ends with a peek at the game's "Autolog" player vs. player challenge system. There are also some shots that'll be familiar with anyone who played <em>Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 </em>in the PS2 era, including roadblocks, spike strips (dropped from helicopters!) and the cops calling in high-performance backup when their cruisers just aren't getting the job done. It looks fast-tastic. Now, if only November 16 could get here faster.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-gameplay-footage-will-get-your-heart/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit gameplay footage will get your heart racing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-gameplay-footage-will-get-your-heart/">Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit gameplay footage will get your heart racing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Aug 2010 21:40:00 EST. If you happen to live in one of seven US cities selected by EA, you'll be able to catch <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/need-for-speed-hot-pursuit">Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</a> </em>in advance of its November 16 release. Taking a cue from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAL1FIlnAy8"><em>The Cannonball Run</em></a>, the game will wind its way across the country (and back again), making pit stops at "hot local venues" along the route, where it will be playable while "renowned hip hop and rock artists" perform.<br />
<br />
The tour rolls out on Wednesday, July 14 at the Manhattan Classic Car Club in New York City. Hit the break (not the brakes) for a full list of cities and dates, then visit <a href="http://www.needforspeed.com">the official <em>Need for Speed </em>site</a> to sign up for a test drive at one of the venues.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/30/ea-taking-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-on-tour/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>EA taking Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on tour</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/30/ea-taking-need-for-speed-hot-pursuit-on-tour/">EA taking Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit on tour</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Jun 2010 15:00:00 EST. Criterion's <em>Need for Speed</em> has finally been revealed. EA's E3 keynote ripped off the cover on <em>Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit</em>, a reboot of the long-running racing series due to launch on November 16.<br />
<br />
The introductory trailer promises a full campaign mode for both racer and cop and reveals a new feature called Autolog. This will track how you play and will support leaderboards for bragging rights between friends. There are also in-game power-ups (a spike strip for the cops is detailed), which can be utilized through the d-pad.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>EA just sent a press release revealing a November 19 release for Europe, as well as a Wii port in development at Exient.<br />

Hey, remember <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/black"><em>Black</em></a>, the PS2 and Xbox FPS <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/black/">created by Criterion Games</a> before it went all-in on <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>? Turns out the name wasn't just short for "black ops" -- the senior designer on the title was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/stuart-black">Stuart Black</a>, and the vice president of development for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/codemasters">Codemasters</a> has now confirmed that <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=234944">he's working on a new game in a new studio</a> for the company. Black will join former game director at Sony London, Tom Gillo, and senior producer Andrew Wilson on an 80-person team working with Codemasters' EGO engine to develop the brand-new IP, which the UK's Official Xbox Magazine seems to be hinting is "the shooter that everybody asked for."<br />
<br />
We've heard a lot of people ask for a next-gen <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-one-lives-forever"><em>No One Lives Forever</em></a> sequel, but that's probably not what they mean. <em>Black</em> did have <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuhx3Eltwq4&amp;feature=related">some nice stylistic twists</a>, however, so while this game is definitely not a direct sequel (Criterion still owns that IP), we'll expect to see Black's ideas assembled in a new form.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/15/codemasters-working-on-new-fps-from-creator-of-black/">Codemasters working on new FPS from creator of Black</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Feb 2010 20:00:00 EST. You probably got that idea already, considering nothing but the sound of crickets and tumbleweeds have emerged from Criterion HQ since the release of the last bit of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> DLC, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/big-surf-island">Big Surf Island</a>. A <a href="http://twitter.com/CriterionGames/status/7986040769">tweet</a> from the company account confirms our fears, stating there will be "<span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">no more" DLC and that the company </span></span><span class="status-body"><span class="entry-content">"did WAY more than everyone else."</span></span> That's all well and good, but it doesn't slake our need for more <em>amazing</em> DLC!<br />
<br />
So there you have it. The world is a colder and darker place today. You gotta give it up to Criterion Games. Throughout the lifespan of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>, the developers at Criterion worked their buns off to give us all kinds of juicy DLC, from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/criterion-games-takes-us-on-a-tour-of-burnout-paradises-big-sur/">a new island</a> to explore, a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/joystiq-review-burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">new game mode</a>, right down to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/burnout-paradise-getting-motorcycles-night-driving-this-august/">motorcycles</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/toy-cars-dlc-rolling-into-burnout-paradise-this-thursday/">many</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/">many</a> car packs. Now, the company has prepared <a href="http://portal.burnoutweb.ea.com/page/news">a lengthy diatribe</a> documenting some of the updates that never got off the ground.<br />
<br />
For one, did you know that Criterion initially planned to have motorcycles vs cars? Yep, sure was planned -- and did you know that Criterion wanted to create a whole series of islands, not just the one? The devs even wanted to give players the ability to go to the moon, complete with lunar challenges for Freeburn addicts. Also: the planes thing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/burnout-paradise-planes-could-be-just-an-april-fools-joke/">wasn't</a> an April Fool's joke -- the dev actually wanted to add them (and other vehicles) into the game.<br />

Overall, it's a pretty great read, if only to show you just how committed the studio was to the game and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/joystiq-interview-downloading-criterions-thoughts-on-dlc/">raising the bar for DLC</a> in general.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/18/criterion-details-burnout-paradise-dlc-that-never-was/">Criterion details Burnout Paradise DLC that never was</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Dec 2009 22:30:00 EST. "In recent years, we failed to put adequate resources behind the franchise and, as a result, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/21/need-for-speed-series-sells-100m-copies-earns-2-7b-life-to-dat/">quality suffered</a>," EA Games label president Frank Gibeau said of the <em>Need for Speed</em> franchise, currently in the midst of a reboot with the well received <em>Need for Speed: Shift</em>, the recently released <em>Need for Speed: Nitro</em>, and the we're-not-sure-that's-going-to-work <em>Need for Speed: World Online</em>. But there's a fourth post-reboot <em>Need for Speed</em> title <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/report-battlefield-3-criterion-developed-need-for-speed-underw/">in development at Criterion Games</a>, the devs behind the excellent <em>Burnout</em> series. <br /> <br /> Removing any doubt that the series will miss an opportunity for annual exploitation (again, the massively multilpayer online racing of <em>World Online</em> doesn't count!) Gibeau said "Next year's <em>Need for Speed</em> has been under development now for some time at our award-winning Criterion Studio." We're not sure what type of <em>Need for Speed</em> Criterion is creating, but we wouldn't be surprised if it was heavy on the crashing.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/09/criterion-developed-need-for-speed-coming-next-year/">Criterion-developed Need for Speed coming 'next year'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Nov 2009 20:10:00 EST. Apparently the company that owns Criterion (EA -- duh!) and the company itself don't agree on whether or not the Xbox 360 has been "maxed out." Speaking to <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/criterion-nobodys-maxed-out-ps3-360">Eurogamer</a>, Criterion's technical director Richard Parr said, "That's proof that you're not the best ... it means you're out of ideas." <br /><br />Dedicated Joystiq Biomass[TM] members will remember when, just three days ago, vice president of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/10/ea-exec-360-has-already-been-maxed-out/">EA Europe Patrick Soderlund said</a>, "I think that we've maxed out the 360 but we haven't maxed out the PS3." So, what is it, folks? Is the 360 already meeting its limits? Will the rumored <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/13/rumor-natal-part-of-new-xbox-console-due-fall-2010/">new Xbox console of Fall 2010</a> help to assuage Mr. Soderlund's claims? Will Criterion get in a slapfight with EA Europe? We'll just have to wait and see.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/13/criterion-thinks-if-youve-maxed-out-the-360-youre-not-trying/">Criterion thinks if you've maxed out the 360, you're not trying hard enough</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 13 Jun 2009 13:00:00 EST. How much will you pay for 15 new events in <em>Burnout Paradise</em>? Criterion is hoping the answer is $12.99 (&pound;9.99), because that's what it's charging for the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/big-surf-island/"><em>Big Surf Island</em> DLC pack</a>, available this Thursday. Interestingly, those who use Microsoft Magic Money[TM] get a slightly cheaper option at 1000<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />.<br /><br />It's certainly not as costly as some on the Joystiq team feared, but it's also far from an immediate impulse buy. While we understand Criterion wants to "make money" and "feed the family," we lament the long-gone days of free <em>Burnout </em>DLC.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/08/big-surf-island-will-wash-12-99-out-of-your-wallet/">Big Surf Island will wash $12.99 out of your wallet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 08 Jun 2009 17:15:00 EST. Criterion Games has released the latest Crash TV episode looking at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><span style="font-style: italic;">Burnout Paradise</span></a>'s upcoming DLC, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/big-surf-island-adds-15-events-10-freeburn-challenges-to-burnou/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Big Surf Island</span></a>. In their classic style, the guys and gals at Criterion have given us a very in-depth look at the new content, showing off the new Criterion Dust Storm car, and even a building that one of the game's fans won the chance to name (he named it after his son, Taylor). <br /><br />Head past the break to check out <span style="font-style: italic;">Big Surf Island</span>.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/criterion-games-takes-us-on-a-tour-of-burnout-paradises-big-sur/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Criterion Games takes us on a tour of Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/28/criterion-games-takes-us-on-a-tour-of-burnout-paradises-big-sur/">Criterion Games takes us on a tour of Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 17:15:00 EST. Gamers are in the middle of a love/hate relationship with Criterion. Costly and often-underwhelming "premium" DLC has tarnished the goodwill earned by <em>Burnout Paradise</em>'s free Cagney and Bikes updates. The $10 <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/review-burnout-paradise-party-criterions-first-premium-dlc/"><em>Party</em> pack</a> was a misstep for the series, but does <em>Cops &amp; Robbers</em> steer the game back in the right direction? The answer, thankfully, is a resounding "yes."<br /><br />At its core, <em>Cops &amp; Robbers</em> is a simple retooling of the game's already-existing online Marked Man mode. However, some key tweaks make it a much more focused and entertaining experience. While the $10 price point will give some sticker shock, the addition of more than 30 repainted vehicles makes it an easier buy than Criterion's "Toys" and "Legendary Cars" packs.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344484"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/paradisecopsrobbers2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise21024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise11024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/joystiq-review-burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Review: Burnout Paradise Cops &amp; Robbers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/05/joystiq-review-burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Joystiq Review: Burnout Paradise Cops &amp; Robbers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 05 May 2009 13:45:00 EST. It looks like Criterion has finally figured out how much to charge for its upcoming <em>Cops and Robbers</em> DLC. The multiplayer-only premium DLC for <em>Burnout Paradise</em> will release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/cops-and-robbers-coming-to-burnout-paradise-april-30/">this Thursday</a> and will cost $9.99 / &euro;9.99 / &pound;7.99 / 800<img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" />. The expansion not only adds the CTF-inspired online mode, but will also add <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/crash-tv-provides-early-glimpse-of-burnout-paradises-cop-cars/">33 new</a> international police cars to your Junkyard.<br /><br />At $10, <em>Cops and Robbers</em> looks to be a much better value than all of Criterion's previously released DLC. The price is (finally) right -- let's hope the trend continues for the upcoming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/01/burnout-paradises-big-surf-island-now-premium-dlc/"><em>Big Surf Island</em></a>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344484"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/paradisecopsrobbers2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise21024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise11024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/27/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers-is-a-steal-at-10/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers is a steal at $10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 27 Apr 2009 15:30:00 EST. A lot of <em>Burnout Paradise</em>'s "premium DLC" packs have left gamers out in the cold. The "Party" DLC <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/02/05/review-burnout-paradise-party-criterions-first-premium-dlc/">didn't add much</a> to the <em>Burnout</em> experience. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/18/see-what-youll-be-ruining-in-burnouts-new-dlc/">movie-inspired</a> DLC cars were fun, but a bit <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/burnout-paradise-legendary-cars-priced/">pricey</a>. However, Criterion may have crafted a truly worthwhile add-on with its upcoming "<a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/cops-and-robbers-dlc-adds-8-new-trophies/">Cops and Robbers</a>" pack, available <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/17/cops-and-robbers-coming-to-burnout-paradise-april-30/">next week</a>.<br /><br />The latest episode of CrashTV (after the break) shows the <em>Burnout</em> team enjoying three rounds of their upcoming multiplayer expansion. Essentially, "Cops and Robbers" is the <em>Paradise</em> version of Capture the Flag, with cars trying to capture a floating collection of gold. The gold will spawn at random points on the map, and teams will have to reclaim the treasure and drive back to their designated checkpoint. Expect tons of Takedowns.<br /><br />The team at Criterion looks to be having a lot of fun with this new expansion -- maybe <em>too much fun</em>. As generally grumpy people, we always keep a suspicious eye on people that appear to be <em>happy</em>. We're watching you, Criterion ...<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/criterion-has-too-much-fun-playing-burnout-paradise-cops-and-ro/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Criterion has too much fun playing Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/24/criterion-has-too-much-fun-playing-burnout-paradise-cops-and-ro/">Criterion has too much fun playing Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 12:55:00 EST. The folks at Criterion Games don't just sit around crashing virtual cars all day, you know. Well, okay, maybe they do <em>a little</em>, but they also produce a video show called Crash TV, which provides a behind-the-scenes look at everything the company is doing with its game, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>. In the latest episode, Criterion previews some of the cop cars coming in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/burnout-paradise-teases-cops-and-robbers/">Cops and Robbers</a> DLC pack. We've embedded the latest episode of Crash TV after the break, which shows off around 15 new cop cars in total, so click through and get your 7-minute dose of cop car goodness.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise: Cops and Robbers</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344484"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/paradisecopsrobbers2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344483"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise21024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/burnout-paradise-cops-and-robbers/#1344482"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/02/burnoutparadise11024_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/crash-tv-provides-early-glimpse-of-burnout-paradises-cop-cars/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Crash TV provides early glimpse of Burnout Paradise's cop cars</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/16/crash-tv-provides-early-glimpse-of-burnout-paradises-cop-cars/">Crash TV provides early glimpse of Burnout Paradise's cop cars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 16 Apr 2009 16:01:00 EST. We're not exactly sure what they stole, but judging by the teaser trailer for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Burnout Paradise</span>'s</a> looming <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/tag/cops-and-robbers/">Cops and Robbers</a> mode, criminals will have their jobs cut out for them outrunning the Paradise City fuzz. <br /><br />As a latest move to "change the way people <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/joystiq-interview-downloading-criterions-thoughts-on-dlc/">think about and experience</a>" the chaotic racer, much of Cops and Robbers' details remain behind bars, including the premium DLC's as-yet-unannounced release date. Still, if nothing else, this early look shows that Paradise City's police force is more than equipped to keep pace with lead foots on the wrong side of the law.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/burnout-paradise-teases-cops-and-robbers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Burnout Paradise teases 'Cops and Robbers' </em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/15/burnout-paradise-teases-cops-and-robbers/">Burnout Paradise teases 'Cops and Robbers' </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 11:00:00 EST. Back in July of last year, Criterion Games mentioned that it had been <a href="http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/07/06/criterion-working-on-burnout-paradise-planes/">experimenting with airplanes</a> as a potential<em> </em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a> add-on; however, with new info claiming that an announcement regarding this is <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/faq/#">due on April 1st</a>, there's suspicion that such an update could be nothing more than a <em>really</em> long-running April Fool's joke. This information comes from the FAQ section on Criterion's website, where it was specifically stated to "check for an exciting announcement on April 1" for more on the inclusion of planes. <br /><br />Now, there are a number of ways we can read this quoted sentence. We can take it for face value and what it says directly, or we can assume that there's sarcasm and allusion in the type. Preferably, we'd like to think Criterion is serious about making plane crashes in Paradise City a reality, but the proposition of planes in <em>Burnout</em> is hard to believe. Associate that with April Fool's and, well, it's <em>really</em> hard to believe. It seems the real joke is on us trying to figure out which is which. We've contacted Criterion and EA to see if we can get a straight answer.<br /><br />[Thanks, Joey B.!]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/burnout-paradise-planes-could-be-just-an-april-fools-joke/">Burnout Paradise planes could be an April Fool's joke</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 03:00:00 EST. Criterion Games, the nutty folks who just can't stop tinkering with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/burnout-paradise"><em>Burnout Paradise</em></a>, are preparing to unload yet another pile of DLC goodness onto the game in the form of The Boost Specials Collection. If you're finding a lapse in your memory regarding the Boost DLC, then read up on it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/burnout-paradise-toy-cars-and-boost-dlc-details-leaked/">here</a>.<br /><br />If you're too lazy to click (it's Monday, we totally understand), then here's a quick rundown: The Boost Specials Collection DLC features two cars -- the Hawker Mech and the Carson Extreme Hotrod -- priced at 240<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($3) each. You can buy both in a single download for 400<img border="0" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" alt="" /> ($5). Look for these new cars on PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace this Thursday.<br /><br /><strong>Essential reading: </strong><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/06/joystiq-interview-downloading-criterions-thoughts-on-dlc/">Joystiq interview: Downloading Criterion's thoughts on DLC</a><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/09/criterion-reveals-boost-specials-collection-for-this-thursday/">Criterion reveals Boost Specials Collection for this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 09 Mar 2009 12:13:00 EST. Following a somewhat embarassing <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_bfVE-8dcc">premature release</a> of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=Burnout%20Paradise">Burnout Paradise</a></em>'s "Toy Cars" DLC a couple of weeks back on Xbox Live, Criterion has finally set <a href="http://www.criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=414">a legitimate release date for the nine-car pack</a>. Keep an eye on your respective system's digital shopping center this coming Thursday morning -- that's when Criterion anticipates the miniature vehicles will be released upon the inhabitants of Paradise City.<br /><br />Surprisingly, with two days between us and shrunken vehicular carnage, Criterion hasn't announced the price of the DLC bundle -- though if it matches the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/19/burnout-paradise-toy-cars-and-boost-dlc-details-leaked/">costs displayed during February's accidental launch</a>, we can expect to drop 1,000<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($12.50) for the whole kit 'n kaboodle, or 160<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($2) per car, with the exception of the Toy Nakamura Firehawk motorcycle, which went for 240<img border="0" alt="" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fanboy.com/media/2007/11/microsoftpointslogosmall.gif" /> ($3) during the early release.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/03/toy-cars-dlc-rolling-into-burnout-paradise-this-thursday/">Toy Cars DLC rolling into Burnout Paradise this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Mar 2009 11:30:00 EST.
