For the past several years, ORM Entertainment has been working on a simulator called Titanic: Lost in the Darkness. Beginning life as a mod for the original Crysis, T:LITD (just rolls of the tongue, doesn't it) has been updated and refined and reiterated upon until eventually being moved to CryEngine 3, where it has achieved its current, staggeringly gorgeous state, as seen in the trailer above.

Now, when we say "staggeringly gorgeous," we don't mean "Oh hey, that looks pretty good for a mod." We mean that we would rather watch this video again than look at a Christina Hendricks made out of diamonds, standing on top of a unicorn riding a rainbow over a waterfall in space. Hopefully Titanic: Lost in the Darkness' next reincarnation will be playable and available to the masses.
Render me like one of your French girls: The Titanic in CryEngine 3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 27 Nov 2011 18:00:00 EST. We get it: every October, it's all about basketball and bank robberies for us, so naturally the top-grossing games on PSN for the month revolve around similar subject matter. The PlayStation Blog reports that the two top games purchased and installed in October are NBA Jam: On Fire Edition and Payday: The Heist in first and second place, respectively.

Taking third place was the re-release of Crysis, followed by Chrono Trigger and Resident Evil 4 HD. Also, we're glad to see Odin Sphere debut in the charts at number 15 -- you may recall, its release is part of the "Only on PlayStation Network" campaign where select PS2 games were given new life as PSN titles. We're all for older games (especially good ones) finding a new audience!

You can see the full list of October's top-earners through the source link below. Just try not to flip out too much when you see Real Steel rank higher than God Hand.
NBA Jam and Payday top October PSN sales originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 Nov 2011 06:00:00 EST. The original Crysis is an abstract concept for many. Whether through actual technical limitations or a perception thereof, it was the destroyer of worlds and PCs, seen as out of reach for all but the most tech-driven of PC gamers. It's been so easy to get caught up in the question of "Can it run Crysis?" that there's a swath of gamers who have never asked, "How is Crysis?"

But here we are, with Crysis (the first) finally making its way to six year old hardware. It runs. But is it fun?

Gallery: Crysis (PS3 / 360)

Deja Review: Crysis originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 13 Oct 2011 16:45:00 EST.
If you are, let's say, a person, there's a reasonable chance your PC was ill-equipped to play Crysis when it was first released in 2007. The erstwhile PC gaming benchmark is now officially available via Xbox Live Games on Demand and PlayStation Network. Well, the single-player portion is available anyway, as the console release doesn't include multiplayer.

For those on the fence, we'll have a Deja Review up soon. For everyone else, you can snag most of Crysis for $20.
Crysis suiting up on Xbox Live, PSN originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 19:30:00 EST. It might not have triggered a technological apoplexy in your PC, but the malleable CryEngine 3 has granted Crytek access to a wider ranger of platforms -- including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The original Crysis is cruising to consoles (via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live's Games on Demand service) on October 4 for $20, according to EA's last announcement.

The publisher sent out a small batch of screenshots too, which we've appended below.
Following an early ratings leak, an Xbox 360 and PS3 release of Crysis 1 was announced on last night's episode of GameTrailers TV. Crytek president and CEO Cevat Yerli explained that the game had long been requested on consoles, and will be arriving this October via Xbox Live <strike>Arcade</strike> (Games on Demand seems more likely) and PlayStation Network.

The game is said to be "remastered" with new lighting effects and streamlined Nanosuit abilities, and probably borrows some interface adjustments from Crysis 2. No price or exact date has been given to Crysis on consoles, but given the proximity to October we expect to hear more very soon.

Update: EA announced that the game will cost 1600 Microsoft Points/$19.99, and will have stereoscopic 3D support.
Continue reading Crysis coming to PSN and Xbox Live this October [updated]

Crysis coming to PSN and Xbox Live this October [updated] originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 09:23:00 EST. A new rating suggests that the first Crysis may be headed to Xbox 360. "Crysis" was spotted on the Korean Game Rating Board website, listed for Xbox 360. Crysis 2 is already on the database, with separate listings for each platform (including Xbox), so it's not simply a matter of the sequel being released in that market as just "Crysis."

That leaves the tantalizing possibility that Crysis is being ported to Xbox 360, using Crytek's multiplatform-friendly CryEngine 3. There's also the distinct possibility that the listing is just a mistake, though we're hardly tantalized at all by that.

[Thanks, Sacra]
On Friday, the first Crysis game and its expansion were discounted on Steam as part of an "EA Week" of sales. That night, on the Steam Users' Forums, purchasers began reporting that they could not activate the games. By the next morning, some 221 replies later, a Valve representative chimed in to say, "We are aware of the problem and are investigating the issue."

While it might have been a long weekend for those left waiting for their activation keys to start working, this morning, Valve software developer Mike Blaszczak started a new thread with some reassuring news. "We've been working with EA to get the Crysis keys enabled over the weekend," he posted. "As EA enables keys, users should see the games activate."

Blaszczak implied that the issue stemmed from EA's side, adding, "EA is aware of the issue and actively working through it, and we're doing what we can to assist."

In a follow-up response he confirmed, "Yes, we know the cause," but avoided an explanation. As of publishing, a few users had replied to say their games were now working, though Blaszczak warned, "No ETA is available for individual users."

[Thanks, Martin]
The EA Steam Week continues with deals on Crysis games. Right now, you can get Crysis for $7.49 through the digital storefront, or Crysis Warhead for $4.99; however, true, hardcore saving-money-on-Crysis fans will be more interested in the Crysis Maximum Edition, which combines the two for just $10. Those prices will help you maintain enough savings for the rest of the stuff you'll be impulse-buying on Steam this week.

These deals are active in North America, but a quick warning -- they may be different in your region. And they'll definitely be different Saturday at 1PM EST, when the deal expires.
Crysis hits rock bottom price in Steam sale originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 06 May 2011 16:34:00 EST. In celebration of, um, March, Direct2Drive is reducing the price of this month's top fifteen games by fifteen percent. The list of titles includes the likes of Dead Space 2, Rift, Shogun 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm. Fifteen percent amounts to a reasonably hefty $9 discount on $60 titles and around $7.50 on $50 titles, and it also has the effect of lowering Magicka's already ridiculously low $10 price to just $8.50.

Head over to Direct2Drive to see the full list of titles, and enter the promo code "MARCHMAYHEM" at checkout to receive the discount.
Direct2Drive knocking 15% off March's best sellers originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 31 Mar 2011 03:00:00 EST. Crysis 2 running well and looking fantastic, even on the half-decade-old Xbox 360, is now a reality. Gone is the question of "Will it run?", replaced by the really big one: "Is it any good?"

Make no mistake, Crysis 2 answers the "Will it run?" question definitively. Though about the millionth FPS built around a plot of an alien invasion, give or take a few, it's also the most beautiful. Its depiction of a disaster-ravaged New York City is the stuff of Hollywood blockbusters, with layer upon layer of impressive visual effects, animations and large-scale destruction.

Gallery: Crysis 2 (3/22/11)

Continue reading Crysis 2 review: More than just a suit

Crysis 2 review: More than just a suit originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 Mar 2011 12:07:00 EST. Being the sequel to the game that famously brought even the most powerful PC gaming rigs to their knees, you'd expect Crysis 2 to be, how should we say, significantly streamlined for its release on Xbox 360 and PS3. Aw heck, we'll just say it -- how could the console versions even hold a candle to the PC? As evidenced by the video after the break, the 360 does a fine job of keeping up, at least in multiplayer.

In the split-screen footage, it's clear that the PC version sports higher-resolution textures, some higher-detail models and different (one might say improved) lighting. Other than that, though, the two appear fairly close to the untrained eye. Of course, this is multiplayer, so both versions are less fancy in order to keep the framerate up, but this should at least make for some good anecdotal evidence for console players afraid they're missing out big-time by not having a $3,000 PC.
Continue reading Crysis 2 vs. Crysis 2: PC and Xbox visuals compared

Crysis 2 vs. Crysis 2: PC and Xbox visuals compared originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 10 Mar 2011 19:00:00 EST. In other words, "buy the game immediately." The "Limited Edition" includes bonus experience points in multiplayer, a "SCAR Hologram Decoy" that allows players to project an image of themselves, a "SCAR Weapon Skin" in digital camouflage, and an in-game Platinum Dog Tag.

Not extravagant enough? EA also announced the Crysis 2 Nano Edition, which despite its name is quite a bit larger. It'll include the Limited Edition of the game, a steel case, an 11" statue of the protagonist atop an NYC taxi, and an art book. And all of that's inside a backpack (designed to resemble the Nanosuit). This outrageous special edition will only be available via pre-order from EA, for $149.99, £119.99, or EUR 129.99.

In addition, EA announced that a closed beta will be held for Xbox 360 players "later this year." Most people think summer is the time to go swimming and enjoy the bounty Mother Nature has to offer. Sure, you could do that, or you could spend your summer months as we do: sitting around in the A/C, eating cold pizza and playing some games. Thus, we present the EA Summer Weekend Sale, which slashes prices on select EA games (PC only, folks!) every weekend. Until July 18, EA is offering 50% off both Crysis and Crysis Warhead.

Gamerdeals got its hands on a list of what's supposedly going to be offered throughout the promotion -- highlights include Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Need for Speed: Shift. We've contacted EA to confirm the list and will let you know what we hear back.
EA 'Summer Weekend Sale' offers a season's worth of discounts originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 17 Jul 2010 02:00:00 EST. New York City is a bustling metropolis and tourist destination, but in EA's Crysis 2 it's the front line of an alien assault. These new screens depict the otherworldly attack on the city that never sleeps -- with enemies that don't either. They wreak havoc day and (in this case) night.
Look, we get it. You found a primo slab of stone that's just aching to have your name emblazoned all over it in big, funky letters. There's just one problem: it's illegal.

So how about slapping your name or handle onto a virtual wall? That's what Crytek is offering 50 lucky winners in its latest game, Crysis 2. It's a Twitter-based contest, so you'll need to follow @Crysis and fire off the appropriate tweet below, given your region:

UK: Hey @Crysis, I want you to put my name in the game! http://crys.is #Crysis2contestUK

US/Canada: Hey @Crysis, I want you to put my name in the game! http://crys.is #Crysis2contestNA

Germany: Hey @Crysis, Ich mochte meinen Namen im Spiel sehen! http://crys.is #Crysis2contestDE

Act quickly, because the contest concludes on May 3. Oh how we can't wait to see all of the "Pothead McSmokesweeds" and "XxBlazingMad420zxXs" when we're running through a dilapidated New York city!
Get your name or handle in Crysis 2 as graffiti originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 01 May 2010 03:00:00 EST. Despite earlier claims that Haze developer Free Radical (now Crytek UK) were working on an "original FPS" for its new overlord Crytek Studios, it appears that the UK-based studio is actually hard at work on Crysis 2's multiplayer component. In an interview with VG247, CEO Cevat Yerli revealed "several online functionalities" for the game, as well as the team behind said functionalities. "That is all they [Crytek UK] are doing, with a full team on it, and they are blasting forward at full speed with more focus and dedication than I've ever had before at Crytek." Jeez you two, get a room!

Yerli unfortunately couldn't expand on the various types of multiplayer we'll find in Crysis 2 when it arrives later this year, though he did note that the team at Crytek UK will be "making the gameplay unique to both the console and PC versions." Still heralded as a technical benchmark for the platform, the first Crysis game exploited the power of PCs, going far beyond what consoles could initially offer. Crytek has managed to set another technical benchmark with Crysis 2, offering a similar experience on consoles. We spoke to Crytek's executive producer Nathan Camarillo on the process of transitioning to console development, and how that affected game development.

Joystiq: Console gamers are likely to be unfamiliar with the story of the first Crysis. Will that put them at a disadvantage going into the second game?
Nathan Camarillo: With Crysis 2, we're considering it in some ways a reboot of the franchise. But we're not starting over from scratch. There will be continuity between Crysis 1 and Crysis 2 for players who have played Crysis 1, but you don't need to have played it in order to understand what Crysis 2 is about. We're hoping that the story and gameplay is so compelling that people will be encouraged to try Crysis 1 after, but in no way is it a prerequisite.

Why make the switch to consoles now? How do you address complaints from dedicated PC fans that are concerned about a "watered down" experience caused by multiplatform development?
In actuality, our switch to focusing development to include consoles has strengthened the quality of game that we're making for Crysis 2, because it's allows us to look at, with a higher degree of scrutiny, what it is we're trying to do and how we go about accomplishing it. It's not "can we just do it on console?" Is it the best decision to make for the product? And can we do it on consoles and PC?
Continue reading Video interview: Crytek Executive Producer Nathan Camarillo, on Crysis 2

Video interview: Crytek Executive Producer Nathan Camarillo, on Crysis 2 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 09 Apr 2010 17:00:00 EST. The first Crysis is probably best known for its benchmark-setting graphics. Unfortunately, its PC exclusivity meant console gamers weren't able to discover the true beauty of the game: its nail-biting emergent gameplay, assisted by realistic AI, and a truly open world to explore. The Nanosuit endowed you with superhero tools that encouraged playing with the environment -- punching a tree to have it land on enemies, for example.

But don't expect a large focus on the franchise's deep tactical combat today. Like its predecessor, it's easy to get caught up by the sheer spectacle that is Crysis 2.
Take a moment just to look at the first official Crysis 2 screenshots released by EA. Yep, stunning, aren't they? Unfortunately, they're not indicative of actual gameplay, considering the upcoming multiplatform title is a first-person shooter, not third.

Still, we can't help but admire the incredible graphical fidelity of these screens. Most likely, these shots were taken from the PC version of the game, but we'll have a full report on the console versions of the game in April. Until then, feel free to spend some quality time in our gallery.
The supersuit-enhanced cat has officially leaped out of the bag, folks -- Crysis 2 will be set in New York City. According to a "World Exclusive" Twitter image of the next PlayStation: The Official Magazine's cover (partially seen above), the upcoming sequel plans to give players a chance to blast off the faces of "aliens invading NYC," employing the already teased "Nanosuit 2.0."

As the Crysis 2 cover is set for the March issue of PTOM, we expect to start hearing more details on the sequel over the next few weeks as subscribers start getting their copies (and subsequently begin filling the internet with said details).
Crysis 2 takes the crisis to New York originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:30:00 EST. During EA's half-hour investor callstravaganza yesterday, CEO John Riccitiello unleashed a flurry of game titles set to be released in the company's "FIscal 2011." For EA, that falls anywhere between April 1, 2010 and March 30, 2011 -- a window that now holds the release of "a great new version of Medal of Honor, a revitalized Need for Speed, Sims on console, FIFA in a World Cup year, an innovative and new take on Madden, Dead Space 2, Crysis at full margins, a new MMA game, and many others."

Considering this laundry list of games is getting little more than a 12-month window for release, we're taking the logical next step and throwing darts at images of the games on our cork-board calendar. According to our impeccable aim... everything is coming out in November. Not helpful!
This full conversion mod transforms the game into something almost unrecognizable, complete with a unique story, mixture of first-person and sim gameplay and, more importantly, so so many giant robots.
Despite discounting games as part of its ongoing holiday sale event, Valve has seen fit to offer even more games at reduced prices, this time flipping the switch on massive discounts for triple-A titles like Street Fighter IV, which can be yours for $10, and Crysis Maximum Edition -- a bundle of Crysis and Crysis Warhead -- for under $14.

That's not all, as your hard-earned greenbacks can also net you cheap digital copies of Medieval II: Total War, Half-Life: Source and Shattered Horizon -- though we'd be remiss if we didn't point out the very tempting combo of Darwinia and Multiwinia, both of which can be yours for $3.
Crysis and Street Fighter IV round out today's Steam deals originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 20:30:00 EST. You might want to go ahead and put on your thickest, darkest sunglasses, because you're about to be blinded with science. OnLive founder and CEO Steve Perlman recently showed off the game-streaming technology's applications to a group of students at Columbia University in New York. Yeah, sure, you can be jealous of their rare opportunity, but take solace in the fact that access to this opportunity probably cost them $35,000 a year.

GamertagRadio snagged a video of the event, which we've embedded after the jump. It's awfully long -- feel free to jump to the 12-minute mark to check out the OnLive user interface, and the 17-minute mark to see the iPhone's social networking functionality.
Continue reading OnLive technology demonstrated at Columbia University

OnLive technology demonstrated at Columbia University originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 29 Dec 2009 12:45:00 EST. If you actually possess the fungible assets required to purchase a government-grade supercomputer -- you know, the kind with an actual human brain built right into it -- then we imagine you don't concern yourself too much with time-sensitive discounts. Still, we thought we'd bring this to your attention: If you own an impossibly powerful computing device, you can buy Crysis or Crysis Warhead on Steam this weekend for just $15 a piece. Well, you can buy them regardless of your computer's hardware specs -- but if you hope you play them, you better think about investing in some cerebral processing power.
Crysis and Crysis Warhead just $15 on Steam this weekend originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 16:30:00 EST. Ever since Crysis released, we've found our life lacking in two distinct ways:

We totally want a Nanosuit of our own and would do close to anything for one

We wish Jason Statham was our squadmate in real life and often daydream about being stranded on a tropical island with him

While the second option is likely never going to happen without some jail time attached to it, the first item is actually a possibility for those willing to travel to Nottingham, UK next month. On October 29 - 30, Crytek UK will section off an area and create "a real-life tropical jungle, complete with exotic flora and fauna" for folks to take part in a real life version of the PC game. In fact, those attending will even be able to try on an actual Nanosuit and, somehow, become invisible while playing this real-life version of the PC title. Crytek UK's Narrative Designer, Rob Yescombe, describes the game as "Hide and Seek for the 21st Century - good old fashioned fun but with a Crytek UK twist."

Who's going?

[Via Big Download]
Crysis LIVE! aims to bring the game into the real world originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 28 Sep 2009 18:30:00 EST. While OnLive and Gaikai continue to hog the game-streaming spotlight, few are talking about the third option that people will have for server-based gaming: OTOY. And that's likely because the company (of the same name) behind the technology hasn't been exactly forthcoming with details -- even the official website has nothing more than the "Soon" image you see above. Ars Technica recently got a chance to check out the service in action, pushing graphical monster Crysis to an iPhone with reportedly good results.

The service is still in its infancy, as demonstrated by a TechCrunch hands-on video we've dropped after the break, but shows a lot of potential. Considering OnLive's currently holding its public beta in North America and Gaikai's kicking off a private beta in Europe late this month, we hope OTOY decides to start getting vocal soon. Taking the viral approach even further, there's also a 16-page PDF brochure advertising the suit you could never afford. Did you know that the tech actually introduces parasitic lifeforms into the wearer's brain to aid in real-time combat analysis? A running theme through Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli's presentation at GDC Europe today was the number 2012. Sure, he mentioned 2013 also, but the next Year of the Tiger showed up nearly a dozen-plus times in the executive's presentation about "the future of gaming graphics." Yerli tells Joystiq that the reason for the number is that it's the company's internal "road map" of when the next generation will begin.

"We will have our next engine ready by that, independently whether there will be hardware or not. We are assuming based on the cycle -- the Moore's Law -- and everything," Yerli told us. "If you predict the computational power and trend. You kinda know how much CPU and GPU will be there and trend. If you take those things into account you can sort of predict where things are going."

Yerli explained that the more console-centric CryEngine 3 will have more updates in the meantime, but its next "major architectural version" of the CryEngine should be ready by 2012. He wasn't sure if they'll call it the CryEngine 4 (our money says: they will).

No, it's okay. You can read that again. According to a report released by Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter, the company was given a demo of streaming game service OnLive this past March. Pachter states that latency between the user and OnLive's servers is supposed to be no more than 80 milliseconds, while the games he demoed were running at 25 milliseconds. While Pachter isn't certain if OnLive will "dominate any time soon" he believes that the micro console's video conferencing feature "will likely attract widespread demand." (Wait, it plays Crysis like a gaming PC and it's video conferencing that will sell this thing?)

Pachter states that OnLive should appeal to families that have yet to buy into the current generation of consoles, especially if the service is priced right. The sweet spot, apparently, is right around $5 a month. A higher price could be met with "consumer resistance," says Pachter. Furthermore, Pachter is already predicting that OnLive may not last long as a standalone service, suggesting that it might be purchased by another company and offered as "part of an expanded service offering."

For example, Microsoft could purchase the company to further expand the Xbox as an entertainment hub -- Pachter notes Microsoft's previous acquisition of WebTV, which was co-founded by OnLive CEO Steve Perlman. That's assuming neither Apple nor Verizon beat Microsoft to the punch, of course.

It's too early for us to say if any of this will come to pass -- we're not analysts, after all -- but we were certainly impressed with our own OnLive experience. Still, until we can plug OnLive into our internet and play Crysis for ourselves, we're a bit skeptical. That's okay though, because we're supposed to be.
Pachter: Crysis via OnLive like 'playing on a fully-optimized gaming PC' originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 30 Jun 2009 20:00:00 EST. CryTek's newest, shiniest piece of tech is CryEngine 3, which will be put to use in the upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Crysis 2. While the first footage of the console versions looks remarkably similar to what you'd get from a PC, a closer examination reveals how top-end gaming PCs are still capable of rendering better graphics with CryEngine 2. According to tehdaza on YouTube, "CryEngine 3 running on console hardware is about the same as CryEngine 2 running on 'medium' settings." The look of the console versions can be recreated on the PC by using low textures, high shaders and object geometry and medium on all other settings.

You can check out the video after the break. In it, you'll be able to compare the draw distance of the two engines and see the change in physics, texture work and more.

[Via N4G]
Continue reading CryEngine 3 equal to CryEngine 2 'medium' settings, comparison video reveals

CryEngine 3 equal to CryEngine 2 'medium' settings, comparison video reveals originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 17:10:00 EST. Like momma always said, if you're gonna effect change, the best place to be is on the inside. Avni Yerli, managing director and co-founder of Crytek, has joined the GDC Europe advisory board, where together with existing members he hopes to "create a conference that will hit the industry's nerve."

GDC Europe's Frank Sliwka put it another way, offering hope that Yerli's membership will "elevate the conference to a whole new level." You know, Frankfurt has given us so much. There's Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral, Hauptwache, to say nothing of the annual Festival of Stoneware. Now, the German city's own Crytek is giving you yet another gift: A free trial of the multiplayer-only Crysis Wars, beginning today and wrapping up April 17. You can find all the details here.

Also announced this morning: Crysis: Maximum Edition, which includes Crysis, Crysis: Warhead and Crysis Wars, bundled together for latecomers to the series for $39.99 beginning on May 5. ... What, you thought Frankfurt would give you that for free too? You've already got Wäldchestag, how much more do you need?

[Update: The trial's apparently not going to start until around 3 p.m. EST. Sorry about the confusion.]
Crysis Wars free trial begins, Crysis Maximum Edition coming soon originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 09:35:00 EST. "We had our research in 2005 on this subject but we stopped around 2007 because we had doubts about economics of scale. But that was at a time when bandwidth was more expensive," CEO Cevat Yerli told GamesIndustry.biz.

High-speed connections have yet to be cheap or reliable enough to work, in Crytek's estimation: the company determined that a streaming service may be possible sometime between 2013 and 2015. This is also the approximate period in which most consumer PCs will begin to be able to run Crysis. Yerli said that such services must rely strongly on broadband providers.

"We're not involved [with OnLive], we just allowed Crysis to be tested on it," Yerli said. The manufacturer of beautiful virtual worlds your computer can never run, Crytek, has just released a video for the latest iteration of its own CryENGINE, uh, engine: CryENGINE 3. Aside from being a pain to type, it's also a platform for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, MMO, and DX9/DX10 development (which we already knew) that provides scalable computation and graphics for all major upcoming platforms, making it "next-gen ready." In speed tests, the engine ran at over 800 Van-Dammes per second, destroying CryENGINE 2's record of 150 Stathams per second.

Cevat Yerli, CEO & President of Crytek, really thinks the company has a winner here and hopes that developers will use the tech to get started on tomorrow's great games today. He describes the new engine as "a revolutionary change from our previous PC-only engines," and will likely love the money Sony and Microsoft toss at Crytek to make Crysis 2: Strike at the Plant where Billion-Dollar Cybersuits are Made a timed exclusive.

CryENGINE 3 will be on display at GDC09 all of this week. Head past the break for the announcement video showing the engine in action for the first time.
Continue reading GDC09: Crytek announces CryENGINE 3

GDC09: Crytek announces CryENGINE 3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 17:54:00 EST. Crytek's past console experience has been nonexistent, and with the company doing away with PC exclusivity, it needs to get its feet wet in the console arena. Now that the company has acquired what is left of Free Radical, it can do just that.

"We always planned to enter the console market and it was part of our strategy even before the acquisition," said Cevat Yerli, president and CEO of Crytek. "This step will certainly bring us forward a bit faster to achieve our goal to develop high quality games on consoles." Before you start getting excited for a console port of Crysis or something, know that Crytek has not revealed any projects yet, though we could be hearing about something sooner rather than later. Employees there are set to begin work on a major project soon, Yerli confirmed.
Crytek's Free Radical acquisition speeds up console development plans originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 11 Feb 2009 13:24:00 EST.
