Team Ninja does not make life easy for game reviewers. Dead or Alive Dimensions, a sort of anthology volume combining all four Dead or Alive fighting games on 3DS, is clearly a great translation of the series to a portable format, beautiful to look at, and also more accessible than any DOA game to date.

It's also marred by some terrible decisions, mostly around the presentation and the structure. As I played, it kind of felt like everything awesome about DOA Dimensions had been intentionally paired with a huge mistake. However, after a period of deep reflection and soul-searching, I came to the conclusion that the awesome parts are sufficiently awesome to outweigh most of the janky stuff, and a lot of the janky stuff turns out to be super hilarious anyway.

Besides, the technical criteria for a successful DOA game are if the female characters' pendulous chests display soothing, hypnotic waves, and occasionally people get knocked off of waterfalls, and in both categories this game passes with flying colors. Colors flying right off of a waterfall.

Gallery: Dead or Alive Dimensions (5/29/11)

Continue reading Dead or Alive Dimensions review: Comedy masterpiece theatre

Dead or Alive Dimensions review: Comedy masterpiece theatre originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 30 May 2011 13:45:00 EST. Dead or Alive: Dimensions won't be available in Sweden, because it potentially violates the country's child pornography laws. The title will also skip Norway and Denmark as a result -- all three territories are covered by the same distributor, Bergsala. Eurogamer Sweden has a joint statement from Nintendo and Bergsala in which they claim to "have decided not to release the game in Sweden, for various reasons." However, neither company wished to list the reasons.

Allegedly, the genesis of the drama involves a forum poster noting that three of the DoA characters are under 18 years of age, which could violate Swedish law when placed in risque situations within the game's "Figure Mode." Animated images have been subject to child pornography laws in Sweden since 1980.
Dead or Alive: Dimensions yanked in Sweden, Norway and Denmark originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 23 May 2011 13:55:00 EST. It wouldn't be a Dead or Alive game without patently ridiculous costumes that would humiliate the characters beyond recovery. The 3DS's Dead or Alive Dimensions has a novel way of distributing these confidence-destroying garments: online distribution through SpotPass. That means that any time your 3DS comes in contact with a wi-fi signal, it might automatically download one of 28 costumes, released over time by Tecmo Koei.

One of the costumes, Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi told Famitsu, will only be available for download on launch day! That's March 24 for Japan; no North American date has been specified.
First SpotPass-distributed DOA Dimensions costumes revealed originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 11 Mar 2011 12:30:00 EST. Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi has revealed in a chat with Famitsu (translated by the folks at Siliconera) that his crew's upcoming 3DS fighter, Dead or Alive Dimensions, will switch between 30 and 60 frames-per-second rendering based on whether players are using the handheld's 3D mode or not. It's a nice, if not entirely unexpected option, considering the 3DS hardware is always rendering the game at 60fps -- it's just 30fps per eye when in "3D mode."

There will undoubtedly be some who prefer the smoothness of 60fps gameplay over what should be a pretty nifty 3D effect. We think it would be a smooth move for more developers to offer this option in their 3D -- as in polygons, not the effect -- games on Nintendo's new system.

One implementation of the touch controls in Dimensions has been detailed, and it's a little weird.

According to a Famitsu.com feature about the game, you'll be able to display a list of moves on the bottom screen -- much like the "command lists" available in other fighters. The controller combinations required to pull off each move will be listed, but you'll also be able to just tap that move's name to launch it. While we're sure fighting game fans are reeling from this blasphemy, keep in mind it's a handheld fighting game and thus pretty much immune to concerns about tournament-level play.

Famitsu also introduced Dimensions' "Chronicle Mode," which serves as a tutorial while retelling the stories of previous DOA games -- presumably leaving out all those times every female character mysteriously got stranded on Zack Island for two weeks, during which they played volleyball, lounged on the beach, and received gifts of jewelry and bikinis.
Dead or Alive Dimensions' touchscreen use, 'Chronicle Mode' revealed originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 07 Jan 2011 12:00:00 EST. It's just "Dead: Code Cronus," now. Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi confirmed the project's cancellation in an interview with Famitsu (translated by Andriasang). After all these years, Hayashi said, "It was just on the framework level." Also on the chopping block: "Project Progressive," mentioned in passing in this 2007 interview with former Master Ninja Tomonobu Itagaki.

These two dropped projects aren't the only evidence that Team Ninja is looking forward. "We're developing [Ninja Gaiden 3] with the idea of restarting at the beginning, saying, 'We'd like to make the action game that's most interesting for the current era.' With this meaning, it's going to be a game that's not bound by the past more than necessary. Of course, we will be valuing the past," Hayashi said, "but in a good meaning we'd like to make it into a game that's not tied down by the past." The image released at TGS actually holds vague clues about the content of Ninja Gaiden 3. Hayashi teased that Ryu Hayabusa "seems to be doing something with [his] right hand," which is covered with unnatural-looking blood.

Team Ninja also has Dead or Alive: Dimensions and Ni-Oh in the works. No matter how many exploding bundles of wood Ayane rolls through, she just can't seem to escape Dead or Alive 1's Raidou. This first Dead or Alive Dimensions (3DS) gameplay trailer reminds us it's damn hard to shake a pursuer who's glowing red and clearly on PCP.
Continue reading Dead or Alive Dimensions' first trailer is in hot pursuit

Dead or Alive Dimensions' first trailer is in hot pursuit originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 29 Sep 2010 21:30:00 EST. Tecmo has been calling Dead or Alive Paradise a piece of "paradise in the palm of your hand." It's a pretty hilarious phrase, but it would seem that the game is anything but -- according to the reviews that have rolled in, anyway. Turns out the majority of gaming press that have braved the buxom beauts and horde of mini-games in the PSP title have found it mediocre at best.

And if you're still on the fence after checking out these reviews, remember there's a demo available on the Japanese PSN right now.

IGN (50/100): "Dead or Alive Paradise is a poorly conceived, undersized grouping of mini-games that aren't aided by the visuals' ability to sell the characters' sex appeal."

Game Informer (4/10): "Not only is Dead Or Alive: Paradise a bad game, it also drags down whatever reputation its namesake carried."

Eurogamer (30/10): "If it's erotic imagery you're after, just get some porn. The visuals will be more realistic, the acting will be better and the plot will make more sense."

G4 (1/5): "The greatest problem facing Paradise is that, in the end, once you cut through the photography and tedious friendship process, the gameplay and entertainment value are as skimpy as the most risqué bikinis on display. Had the games been better and more bountiful, and the socializing/photography nonsense been left out, maybe this might've been okay."

This is no joke -- Tecmo's babe simulator beckons you to come on over to the PlayStation Network next week. Dead or Alive Paradise will be releasing on UMD on March 30, with a PSN version to arrive (very) shortly thereafter on April1. If you must buy the game, we recommend getting the PSN version -- you don't really want to leave incriminating evidence like boxes around, do you? And besides, we're pretty certain you don't want to fumble for a disc when you're getting ready to play.

Just in case you're not exactly sure what you're getting yourself into, we posted a video after the break. We highly recommend you don't watch it at work, or in front of other humans that you want to respect you.
Continue reading Dead or Alive Paradise slides onto PSN April 1

Dead or Alive Paradise slides onto PSN April 1 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 26 Mar 2010 18:15:00 EST. Sony announced that a demo of Tecmo's Dead or Alive Paradise -- which is precisely the kind of game you'd want to try out by downloading, without having to make eye contact with anyone -- will be available for download in Japan this Friday, March 12.

We're now on the edge of our seats to find out which girls we'll get to interact with in the demo. Will it be the supposed martial artist with the ridiculous proportions, or the other one?
In a Famitsu interview (translated by 1UP), the Dead or Alive creator announced that he is in charge of the development department for the new studio, created by Tecmo alum Satoshi Kanematsu.

The studio is staffed by about 50 people, a number Itagaki told Famitsu was intentional. "That may expand a bit, but it's not going to be a 100-person company," he said. "50 people working for two years can produce something better than 100 people working for one year. 100 times 1 and 50 times 2 may produce the same number, but not in creative businesses like this one." Larger, public companies, he said, "have to prove their worth to the stock market on a year-by-year basis, and that means they can't focus all-out on quality."

Whatever Itagaki's new game is, it won't be a fighter. For one thing, "I already made Dead or Alive, the best fighting game in the world, in my last company." Besides, he said, "Fighting games are kind of at another dead end right now" without another DOA-type disruption.
'Valhalla Game Studios' headed up by Tomonobu Itagaki originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 03 Mar 2010 11:30:00 EST. Tecmo's Yoshinori Ueda says the upcoming PSP exclusive Dead or Alive: Paradise is not meant to be softcore porn, despite the game's not-so-subtle marketing line: "Paradise in the palm of your hand." DoA: Paradise director Ueda told Eurogamer that the game only intends to showcase beautiful women and the "beauty of their bodies," but was firm (stiff, even) that the game isn't meant to be degrading toward women.

Featuring bikini-clad mini-games and the ability to photograph the virtual "beauties" without fear of a restraining order, Dead or Alive: Paradise isn't a traditional game; however, Ueda says the game features a number of different activities to <strike>engorge</strike> entertain gamers. The goal, it seems, is to allow players to escape to some kind of magical world: "we hope that people playing the game will be able to come away with the feeling that they've visited paradise," Ueda said.
Including the person who wrote the content description for the ESRB.

"This is a video game in which users watch grown women dressed in G-string bikinis jiggle their breasts while on a two-week vacation," the ESRB description reads. "Women's breasts and butts will sway while playing volleyball, while hopping across cushions, while pole dancing, while posing on the ground, by the pool, on the beach, in front of the camera."

We could quote this whole thing (and we will, after the break), but we really wanted to call your attention to this part: "Parents and consumers should know that the game contains a fair amount of "cheesy," and at times, creepy voyeurism," the ESRB notes with the most open disapproval we've ever seen in one of these things. It continues, "but the game also contains bizarre, misguided notions of what women really want (if given two weeks, paid vacation, island resort)-Paradise cannot mean straddling felled tree trunks in dental-floss thongs." This is the most entertaining ESRB rating ever. Why isn't whoever writes these things ever this upset about graphic violence?

[Update: The ESRB has informed us that a new version, without the "subjective language," has been uploaded to the ratings board's site.]
Let's be honest: You're not thinking about getting Dead or Alive Paradise for the intuitive volleyball mechanics or the scenic, beach-front battles -- this game lacks both. You're buying this game because you want to ogle fake women with comically large and bouncy breasts. Or, according to Tecmo, you're buying this because you're a woman who has never purchased a Tecmo title before and this is something relevant to your interests. Either way, the company's hoping you'll want to pay extra for a special edition bundle of the "game."

Game Watch points out the extra busty package set to release in Japan -- complete with inappropriate Kasumi statue add-on and several other items, including a "Secret Picture Collection" and soundtrack CD. It's like a one-man pity party start-up kit. Are you guys getting it yet? Wanting this makes you a pervert.

There's no word on whether this'll make its way over to the States when the game releases in March, but we'll be sure to let you know.
DOA Paradise special edition is predictably naughty originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 19:15:00 EST. Speaking to Edge, Tecmo's Quantum Theory development team had a few things to say about the Japanese game market, expanding its audience and, of course, Quantum Theory. According to producer Yasuo Egawa, the Japanese game market is shrinking, though the global gaming audience is expanding. "We've been trying to target customers who haven't bought Tecmo games before," says Egawa, "specifically women." Given Tecmo's offerings over the last few years, it's hard not to find that just a little hilarious.

Regarding Quantum Theory itself, the company sees the game as its "third pillar" alongside Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. Character designer Hiroyuki Yazaki notes that Quantum Theory is a departure from other shooters thanks to its AI-controlled female sidekick, Filena. Yazaki states that most shooters are "full of men; big, sweaty men," which lead Tecmo to design a "softer character" for the game. Yazaki adds, "We're Tecmo - we're good at female characters!" Again, just a little hilarious.
Tecmo sees 'opportunity' in expanding audience, pursuing women originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 28 Jan 2010 15:00:00 EST. Finally! A Dead or Alive game that gets rid of that annoying "fighting" and "volleyball" nonsense. Dead or Alive Paradise is making its way to America on UMD and PSN this March. The game takes place on a two-week vacation on New Zack Island. You'll be able to play with nine Tecmo girls in an assortment of mini-games found throughout the island. As you befriend the girls, you'll be able to choose from over 100 bathing suit designs, ranging from scantily-clad to barely anything at all.

The press release seems to know exactly what players of Paradise will do when they pick up a copy. "You are in full control to create your own private paradise, in the palm of your hand ... Take your girls anywhere, and play with them anytime." Um ... are we done with this post yet?
Japanese voice actor Daisuke Gōri (real name: Yoshio Nagahori) passed away under somewhat bizarre circumstances in Tokyo this weekend -- he was found lying on his stomach in the streets of Nakano ward, bleeding from the wrist, with both a sharp weapon and his will lying nearby. Police are investigating the death as a suicide, though they haven't confirmed that ruling yet.

Gōri had an extensive resume as a voice actor in both animation and video games, and is probably known best as the Japanese voices for both Tekken's Heihachi Mishima and Dead or Alive's Bass Armstrong. In Japan, he was renowned for doing voices for the Dragon Ball Z and Kinnikuman series. He was 57.
The magazine, which also rehashes some old rumors, claims that Dead or Alive 5 is "in production for PS3," something that doesn't necessarily rule out an Xbox 360 release (a PlayStation magazine would simply have no reason to mention that).

It seems does likely that Team Ninja would want to develop a new DOA. After all, that's the perfect showcase for the studio's latest Jiggle Tech(R) -- now in triple-D.

The most recent Dead or Alive game to be announced will also be on a Sony platform: the beach minigame collection, DOA Paradise, which is coming to PSP this spring. Maybe now that Itagaki's out, Tecmo can pursue whatever interest it must have had in publishing DOA on PlayStation -- something that hasn't happened since the Xbox was released.
Rumor: Dead or Alive 5 in the works for PS3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 08 Jan 2010 14:00:00 EST. Do you love the Dead or Alive franchise? Do you wish Tecmo would just get rid of all that pesky fighting and volleyball gameplay and give fans what they really want out of the franchise: quality alone time with the DoA girls? Thankfully, Tecmo has answered that call. Seriously.

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals a new Dead or Alive game for PSP called Dead or Alive Paradise. However, this isn't a new game in Tecmo's franchise. In fact, it's barely a game at all. The Examiner notes that this is a port of a mobile game, one which lets you play mini games with the girls, as you continue to purchase skimpier and skimpier outfits for them. Classy.

Paradise is scheduled for a Spring 2010 release in Japan and, thankfully, it's a single-player only experience. We'd hate to think what kind of terrible multiplayer modes Tecmo would imagine for a game like this.
Dead or Alive Paradise coming to PSP, sans fighting (and volleyball) originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 16 Dec 2009 01:00:00 EST. Over the past few years, Haloid and Dead Fantasy animator Monty Oum has repeatedly shocked us with his studio's stunning renditions of Samus Aran fighting Master Chief, as well as various Final Fantasy femme fatales battling their busty counterparts from the Dead or Alive series.

Today is no different, as he pits FFVII's Tifa against Dead or Alive's Hitomi. An epic battle taking place in a church set ablaze while snow quietly falls outside? Some sort of magical, glowing orbs introduced mid-fight? And it involves Japanese video game characters? Weird! Check out the whole girlfight after the break.

[Via Insulin Funk]
Continue reading Dead or Alive and Final Fantasy characters clash again

Dead or Alive and Final Fantasy characters clash again originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 14 Jul 2009 15:40:00 EST. At the end of it all, Tecmo shareholders will come away with 0.9 shares in the merged company for every Tecmo share in their portfolios, while Koei stakeholders will net a one-to-one swap.

The Japanese pair will officially tie the knot on April 1, giving us hope that Dynasty Warriors' disturbing lack of jiggle-tech may someday be realized. Dead or Alive actress Holly Valance is trading in her sword (and vial of box office poison) for a pen and paper as journalist Brenda Snow in the recently announced Red Alert 3: Uprising. Valance will lend her live action camp to the upcoming expansion, which is earmarked for a digital-only release this March.

The Australian-born starlet describes her role in the game as "a camp, over-dramatised character," telling Eurogamer that "it was fun to go a little bit over the top." We're sure that's quite a change from DoA's Christie Allen. The four people who saw that movie tell us that she was the very picture of Hollywood grace.
Dead or Alive's Valance joins Red Alert 3: Uprising camp originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 22:05:00 EST. "We have not had sufficient information from the company to make a judgment on the merger, such as the feasibility of their plan to raise shareholder value," Effissimo Director Takashi Kosaka said in a statement published by Bloomberg.

It's unclear whether the firm, which owns 17.6 percent of Tecmo, will act to delay the formation of the new holding company, scheduled to occur on April 1, 2009. We suspect both companies will reassure Mr. Kosaka by emailing him some provocative artwork from the inevitable hit game, Dynasty Warriors: X-Treme Feudal Beach Volleyball.

[Via Gamasutra]
Tecmo-Koei merger faces opposition from investor originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 26 Dec 2008 14:00:00 EST. So far, those plans don't include the Wii, but the new Team Ninja seems more open to experimenting with other consoles than before. The studio is looking to expand their audience, and "If that lends to one console," Hayashi said, "PS3, or if that's going to be the Wii -- that's just the direction we will go."

Hayashi had similarly vague statements last year, but they were more personal at that time than business-oriented. If Team Ninja decides it would not only be fun, but profitable to create a Wii game, that's more likely to justify the expense and development time.

Team Ninja may not be working on any Wii projects themselves, of course, but their company, Tecmo, is, and the expertise gained from that stuff may help Team Ninja. "We will continue to work in that path. We have a lot of Wii console fans within the company, so hopefully there's something that we can work on."
Team Ninja open to Wii originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 03 Nov 2008 18:08:00 EST. Turns out Tomonobu Itagaki's imminent lawsuit might not be Tecmo's biggest problem after all. Within two days of the Ninja Gaiden developer's abrupt resignation from the company, Tecmo shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped rapidly.

Assurances that Team Ninja would remain (largely) intact apparently did not appease the stockholders. Shares dropped over 10% from Tuesday's closing of ¥1,102 (USD 10.40), to today's closing of ¥982 (USD 9.30). Not a good start to the company's new Itagaki-less lifestyle, to be sure.
Itagaki's departure causes Tecmo stock plummet originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 17:50:00 EST. In a statement issued to 1UP, the Tokyo-based publisher notes that, due to the legal complaint, it had "no choice" but to accept Itagaki's resignation, effective July 1, 2008.

The lawsuit is said to be tied to an outstanding incentive bonus for a past project, one which the parties could not amicably resolve. Tecmo states that it will let the court settle things and bring about a "true, fair, and quick resolution." As for the Team Ninja studio, it remains "committed to producing compelling and cutting edge games in order to maintain its reputation as a high quality developer and to continue to receive the support of its loyal fans."

While it's obvious that Tomonobu Itagaki didn't make games like Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden by himself, we wonder if another star developer will emerge to give Team Ninja an incendiary pass to the presses. Though she brushes off several titles which are "so mindless it would be hard to see them as a destructive influence," the ones with "gratuitous use of violence and bloodthirsty imagery" really draw her ire. Honestly, we'd be bitter too if we had copies of Dead Rising LODGED IN OUR SHOULDERS.

In a response to Thursday's publication of a Dr. Tanya Byron-led review of video game violence, the UK's Daily Mail has delivered a one-two punch of sensationalist misinterpretation ("allowing children to play on computers unsupervised is as dangerous as letting them play outside on their own") and misguided scaremongering, offering the task of analyzing and rating already-rated violent video games to Diamond. Her "chilling" verdicts are all neatly assembled below a snap of kids playing the infinitely sinister Mario Kart 64.

After glossing over Dead or Alive 4 (she wasn't keen on playing as "a martial artist in the fantasy Ninja-style mode"), she becomes truly horrified by a game that "wallows in violence for violence's sake." This dubious honor goes to Resident Evil 4 which, in case you forgot, is about "a cataclysmic chemical attack" spawning legions of zombies which "don't stop until you shoot them in the face or slash their arms off."

"This game shouldn't be allowed to be sold, even adults," says a Diamond in the rush to pass judgment. After being "stabbed to death with pitchforks amid fountains of [her] own blood," she calls it quits and declares, "This kind of violence can only be bad for you." Well, that's what the healing herbs are for, Anne.
After pitting Master Chief and Samus against each other, animator Monty Oum now renders the results of the Final Fantasy universe intersecting with Tomonobu Itagaki's fighting franchise, Dead or Alive. If you take issue with saucer-eyed women pummeling each other in ways that defy logic and gravity, avert your eyes and hide your children (advent or otherwise) before the interminable Matrix music kicks in.

Why are Kasumi and Yuna so upset with one another? Why are bullets so utterly useless? Why hasn't someone made Super Smash Sisters yet? Clearly, we're asking way too many questions. Just enjoy the mad choreography and know that if it's anything like Haloid, love can eventually bloom on the battlefield.

We caught up with Tomonobu Itagaki at the recent Championship Gaming Series North American World Series Final (try printing that on a hat) in Manhattan Beach recently, and we asked him a few questions. Although he'd had a few beers, we didn't get him to pin down a date or a console for Ninja Gaiden 2, curse you weak American beer!

Yes, he was wearing his patent black leather jacket and sunglasses, and no he didn't take them off. Even when it got dark. They might be permanently welded to his face at this point. While he's known for being outspoken and critical to the extreme (especially if your game has the word Tekken in the title), when we asked him about Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, he actually handed over his DS to us and let us play through an early build of the game, more on that soon.
Continue reading Joystiq interview: DOA creator Tomonobu Itagaki, "Tekken sucks"

Joystiq interview: DOA creator Tomonobu Itagaki, "Tekken sucks" originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 01 Aug 2007 23:00:00 EST. But we were wrong. Dead wrong, if you will.

This weekend's box office numbers show earnings for the movie dropping off an incredible 91.9 percent to just over $21,000. Total. For the whole country. For reference, top-earner Evan Almighty made that much off just three of its 3,604 opening screens. The 54th-most popular movie for the weekend, DoA was shown in just 98 theaters, earning an average $214 per screen. For even more context, action flick 300 was shown in 140 theaters and averaged $737 per showing despite being four months old.

Granted, DoA was a low-budget popcorn flick with no big names attached and next to no advertising. Still, what does this unmitigated flop say about the prospects of other upcoming, game-based movies like Prince of Persia or Spy Hunter ... or Metal Gear Solid or Diablo ... or City of Heroes or The Sims? The film earned $232,200 from 505 screens, finishing the weekend behind months-old thriller Disturbia and art house favorite La Vie en Rose. It's a sad day for our country when audiences would rather watch a subtitled French love story than see girls in bikinis kicking each other.

Given the reviews, it's not that surprising that audiences stayed away in droves. Rotten Tomatoes' rating page, which gives the movie a score of 46 percent, is punctuated with quotes like "unquestionably brain dead" and "a genuinely terrible film." And those are from some of the good reviews.

Were you ever curious what it feels like to almost dodge a bullet? Finish this paragraph. Ain't It Cool News is reporting that, after speculation that it would be headed straight to DVD, the Dead or Alive movie will be released to theaters on June 15.

Sure, you may not be thrilled about it, but there are plenty of people who have reason to crow. For example, My Name Is Earl fans, driven mad by the summer hiatus, can squint their eyes during Jamie Pressley's scenes and pretend they're watching lost episodes. Also, the producers of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer must be stoked that they're definitely not putting out the worst movie that week. We've included the trailer after the break to help get you totally pumped for staying home that weekend.
Continue reading Dead or Alive movie slated for June 15

Dead or Alive movie slated for June 15 originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 30 May 2007 12:15:00 EST. The latest issue of EGM reports that Team Ninja is currently working on an exclusive Dead or Alive title for the Playstation 3. Considering the series has been a flagship title for the Xbox since Dead or Alive 3, this presents an interesting twist for DOA fans. The rumor doesn't clarify the actual title of the game, so it's possible that the PS3 will be receiving an updated Dead or Alive 4 (similar to Ninja Gaiden Sigma). In other words, the game in question isn't necessarily Dead or Alive 5. Hell, it might be another DOA Xtreme title for all we know. Come to think of it, the jiggle probably would look better in 4D.
Insert your own jiggling pun here, EGM is reporting the rumor that Team Ninja's crafting a new Dead or Alive title that will be exclusive to the PS3. There's no word on if this is a new branch of the series or the Dead or Alive 5 that alleged joker, smoker and midnight poker Tomonobu Itagaki confirmed last November.

Also slipping from Quarterman's silver tongue: Capcom may be working on a new version of the original Mega Man, remade for the PlayStation Network (what's the appropriate gift for the 100th Mega Man? Glass? Sapphire?). Oh, and, lest we forget, Q says a new Disgaea for PS3 and a new Kingdom Hearts (not Kingdom Hearts 3) are on the way. What's that? You want more? Well, only the first hit is free: You'll have to buy this month's EGM for more details.
Rumor: New Dead or Alive will be PS3 exclusive originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 02 May 2007 14:20:00 EST. Still, come June 12, 60 prospects will split the riches, as they're contracted to join one of six city-based squads that will compete in a small variety of games leading up to the CGS Grand Slam and World Championships this October. Not a bad gig, eh?

But what of this Playboy Mansion draft locale? One set includes Project Gotham Racing 3 and Ridge Racer 6; the other, Dead or Alive 4 and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. The 'Year of the Boar' branded bundles are being sold in Taiwan, where Xbox 360 launched last March. At $1,490 TWD (about $45 USD) a pop, the festive fun-packs aren't screaming "buy me" -- at least from our perspective. We're looking at three launch titles that have since been bargain-binned and a virtual peep show.
