"Our goal for Act 2 has been to release it by the end of April," a monthly newsletter sent to Kentucky Route Zero players notes, before announcing the second episode of the five-part series has been pushed to mid-May. No exact release date has been specified.

Developer Cardboard Computer says that "exciting but unexpected work" setting up the adventure game's distribution, troubleshooting issues for users, and venturing to the IGF have forced the team to push the release of the second act by a few weeks.

"It's looking really good though, and we're anxious to have it out in the world." To tease the release, Cardboard Computer will be posting "a small/weird screenshot from Act 2" on its Twitter and Facebook pages daily, the first of which is available above.

Kentucky Route Zero launched its first act in January 2013, before finding its way on Steam in February. Today, Schatz explains that he submitted one fix for the bug, but it needs more work before it can officially launch on XBLA.

"It was a minor but important bug that was causing disconnects in online play," Schatz writes on Facebook. "I submitted an update to attempt to fix the bug early in the week, but unfortunately it only half fixed the problem. I'm working on another fix now that I'm hoping to submit this week. Once it's confirmed fixed it shouldn't take long to push it through and get the game out."

Schatz can't set a release date now since that decision is up to Microsoft, but he promises to share more information as soon as he <strike>steals</strike> has it.

"I do know that fans are starting to get a little impatient with the lack of information," he says. "I wish I could give you more specific information, but until I have a confirmed fix, I won't be able to give a date. Hoping to have a little more information for you and fill you in on more of the details as soon as I have it!"

For what it's worth (we know you don't get out of bed for less than six figures) we found the PC version of Monaco to be a complex and gorgeous strategy game in the vein of Ocean's 11, but with more pixels.
Monaco XBLA delay: Half of bug fixed, another patch to MS this week originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 28 Apr 2013 13:30:00 EST. The upscaled remastering of the three DS games was originally due last fall, but delays took it into early 2013, then April.

In a hardly encouraging but certainly candid post on the Ask Capcom forums, Senior VP Christian Svensson said, "For reasons unknown to me, the release has slid another several months to July. Sorry guys."

When the free-to-download app eventually arrives, it'll feature Ace Attorney, Justice for All, and Trials and Tribulations as purchasable games within it, both separately and bundled together. It'll also include an 'Everybody Object' mode that lets you email and tweet Phoenix Wright catchphrases via sound files and animated tweets, which by our reckoning would work as its own app, really.
Objection! As per a statement given to Nintendo Life, the delay of Dr Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training: Can You Stay Focused?, as it's leanly titled in Europe, is a strategic one, says Nintendo.

"Nintendo has made the decision to push back the launch date of Dr Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training: Can You Stay Focused? for Nintendo 3DS to optimize the best possible launch timing of this title within the European market," the company told Nintendo Life. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to announce a new launch date soon."

Brain Age: Concentration Training isn't the only recent Nintendo game to endure a curious last-minute delay in Europe. Scribblenauts Unlimited, originally due in the region on Wii U and 3DS on February 8, is still without a release window; we contacted Nintendo recently for an update but only received the same statement given out in February.

The only update since then came courtesy of 5th Cell CEO Jeremiah Slaczka last month, who posted on NeoGAF to say, "It's been delayed due to some localization standards. It'll be out when that's fixed. There are people working in it. Those standards have nothing to do with inappropriate words or adding 'u's to words to make them British (that'd be insane if that was the reason). It's out on Steam right now in the EU, so if it was that problem, then those words would be in the Steam version."
Brain Age: Concentration Training gets last-minute delay in Europe originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 08 Apr 2013 12:00:00 EST. Your support has exceeded our expectations. It is clear to us that to create as high quality a final product as we desire, and as you deserve, we're going to want more time than we had in our original schedule," Project Lead Kevin Saunders wrote in a Kickstarter update.

Saunders says that thanks to fans providing "enough resources to increase Torment's scope and quality bar," the team will use funds beyond the initial request of $900K to allow more time for "design, [iteration], polish and more."

Currently, Torment: Tides of Numenera's crowd-funding support rests at over $3.3 million. The developer has also added a number of stretch goals and items to acquire with a few extra dollars, including a digital comic from The Kingkiller Chronicle author Patrick Rothfuss.
Torment: Tides of Numenera delayed 'a few months' beyond Dec. 2014 release originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 02 Apr 2013 21:15:00 EST. Speaking with MCV, Uplay Director Stephanie Perotti announced more third-party partners for the publisher's digital distribution network, adding, "It shows our commitment to PC, and we want to improve our relationship with the PC community."

Ubisoft's messaging on this better relationship hangs on larger retail offerings through Uplay and the removal of always-on DRM from its games.

Not mentioned are the notorious delays of the publisher's major games between console and PC launches. Although Far Cry 3 didn't experience the standard PC release lag - since it launched so late a delay would have missed the holiday window - Assassin's Creed 3 arrived a month later on PC. We've yet to see what 2013 brings in terms of major Ubisoft games and how launch timing will shape up.
Ubisoft wants better relationship with PC players originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 22 Feb 2013 19:30:00 EST. Developer Naughty Dog says it needs a few more weeks to polish the game, in a statement on the PlayStation Blog:

"As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realise just how massive Joel and Ellie's journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog's internal high standards.

"As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games - gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further - for ourselves, and most importantly, our fans.

"The extra wait will be very short and your patience will be rewarded. Update your calendars. You won't even have to change seasons. The Last of Us will be available June 14, 2013. Until then, know that we will be working extremely hard to deliver an experience that matches your high expectations."

We found the demo for The Last of Us to be positively infectious.
The Last of Us delayed to June 14 worldwide originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 13 Feb 2013 14:20:00 EST. Speaking to Digital Spy, the publisher explicitly stated the only reason for the new September release window is the additional platforms of Xbox 360 and PS3.

"We usually release all of our platforms simultaneously (aside from PC)," an Ubisoft rep told Digital Spy. "We've made special exception sometimes in the past but it's definitely just on a case by case basis and not our standard practice. I know it's not an elaborate, 'convincing' answer, but it's the simple truth."

In short, the game could have come out when it was originally intended to, which was February 26 in North America. Ubisoft simply chose not to do that. However, if you think Wii U owners are dismayed by the news, imagine how the developers behind the game feel.

That's the message imparted to fans by someone believed to be an Ubisoft employee on Spanish forum EOL. As translated by NeoGAF, the employee, who apparently has a history of posting about his work at Ubisoft on the forum, said it was hard to swallow working so hard over six months and barely seeing family and friends, all to ensure the game came out on time, only to find out about the delay. He asked fans not to turn their backs on the game or the team behind it because "some men in ties one day took a wrong choice." His full post reads:

"I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decision taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game. If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescom, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc...) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it. For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wives, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news. Even then I'm firm in what I said back in the day, Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that's making it doesn't deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice. This industry is really that shitty."

Ubisoft clarifies Rayman Legends delay originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 08 Feb 2013 12:30:00 EST. Nintendo's announcement didn't provide any date or window for the delayed launch.

The 5th Cell game was initially expected for the Wii U's launch in Europe, but was then given a release date of February 8. That push-back was, according to 5th Cell CEO Jeremiah Slaczka, "due to things outside of development." This time, Nintendo says it's emerged that changes need to be made before the 3DS and Wii U games can launch in Europe.

When approached, a Nintendo representative told us, "This is all the information we have at present," referring to the statement we've reproduced after the break. We've also reached out to developer 5th Cell for comment.
Continue reading Scribblenauts Unlimited delayed in Europe, no ETA provided

Scribblenauts Unlimited delayed in Europe, no ETA provided originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 Feb 2013 10:30:00 EST. At least that's what Rockstar is telling its fans:

"To those of you saying or seeing various conspiracy theories about there being some other ulterior motive for this delay, rest assured that they're all nonsense - literally the only reason we've delayed the release is because we want the game to be as good as it needs to be," Rockstar writes in the comments of its launch date announcement.

When Rockstar first posted the September release date, it said, "We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time." While we study the weaknesses of your puny human race, we assume is how that originally ended.
Rockstar: Grand Theft Auto 5 delay for quality purposes only originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 04 Feb 2013 20:00:00 EST. As a result, some orders have simply seen shipping delays, while others have seemingly failed to process at all or have been cancelled entirely. The number of non-existent packages sold is unknown.

"If your order(s) has been cancelled, we will be reaching out to you by email with additional information as soon as possible," an official update reads. Affected customers that feel proactive about resolving their issue can also contact Digital River directly by emailing namcobandai.en.cs@digitalriver.com, or by calling 952-392-2057.

It's also worth mentioning that while Digital River says it will be addressing the issues of everyone affected, the update does not go into detail about what that resolution may look like. To be on the safe side, we recommend tempering your expectations towards a refund and an apology.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition oversold, some orders being canceled originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 24 Jan 2013 16:30:00 EST. The game's new release date is April 10, with an open beta scheduled from February 12 until launch.

Developer Nadeo noted the additional time allows the studio to release the shooter/builder at an acceptable standard of quality.

"Nadeo's model of development has always been to be very close to the community, and following the release of the Beta 2 in December, we received a tremendous amount of information from the very active ShootMania community," said Nadeo Live managing director Anne Boudel-Jouin. "For a living, online multiplayer title like this the work is never done, but these extra few weeks will allow us to polish the game further and release it to the level of quality we think our players deserve."
Continue reading ShootMania Storm delayed until April, open beta in February

ShootMania Storm delayed until April, open beta in February originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 22 Jan 2013 12:45:00 EST. We will be releasing a closed test imminently, during which approximately 500-1000 people will assist in ensuring our architecture is correctly functioning," Hall wrote on the DayZ development Tumblr. "This closed test will be focused purely on architecture, not the game design. Once we have confirmed fixes for issues arising from the closed test, we will then reschedule an internal date for our public release."

Hall also said the inventory system has been overhauled to make it more intuitive. Changes include use of drag-and-drop on "3D models rather than 2D pictures, and being able to add items/clothing to your character in 3D in the inventory screen."

DayZ taking the "it's done when it's done" approach may be in its best interest from a couple angles. Given the title's similarity and proximity to the War Z debacle, distance and a polished product can only help the game when it's ready for public consumption.
DayZ standalone ambition expands, imminent closed test to dictate public release originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 07 Jan 2013 20:00:00 EST. Posting on Twitter, the developer noted "2013" is the European window for both the Wii U and PC versions.

With Unlimited being a Wii U launch arrival in North America, fans expected it to join the system in Europe on November 30. Posting on NeoGAF, 5th Cell CEO Jeremy Slaczka said the 2013 window for Europe is "due to things outside of development," and not related to localization issues.

There's also confusion over the Australian release, with 5th Cell and publisher Warner Bros. apparently contradicting each other. According to 5th Cell, Unlimited is actually limited to North America until 2013. The TVii functionality, exclusive to the US and Canada, puts a TV program guide on the Wii U GamePad, and allows users to use the pad to view and control programming from cable and satellite, along with YouTube and popular video on demand services. Through the Wii U, TVii also allows commenting and sharing via Twitter, Facebook, and Miiverse.

Speaking of those video on demand services, don't expect Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, and Netflix to work on day one. Zen United, the company distributing the fighter, announced the delay via the Persona 4 Europe Facebook page. Zen says it will announce a projected release date once it receives the EU build, but currently the distributor doesn't even know when that build will be ready.

Europeans originally expected the game on August 31, in the same month as the North American launch. Following that delay and today's news, fans are now left uncertain when the game will actually be released. This further delay only adds to scrutiny over the decision to enforce the game's region lock, a decision Atlus claims it took to prevent the North American version 'cannibalizing' its Japanese counterpart. Maybe Atlus should've consulted Murphy's law before making Arena the first PS3 game to have such a constraint.

The Persona 4 tie-in fighter may be beaten to European retail shelves by Vita re-release Golden. Publisher NIS America is projecting a tentative February 22 for the latter's release.
Persona 4 Arena isn't taking the stage in Europe this year originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 05 Nov 2012 13:30:00 EST. Speaking to Joystiq, Sony couldn't disclose a time frame for the new look to relaunch, instead stating it's hard at work trying to bring it back online as soon as possible.

Sony also released an official statement:

"The phased launch of the new PlayStation(R)Store has been temporarily postponed in some territories as teething issues related to the global roll-out of the Store are being addressed and resolved. Developer Sparpweed revealed the delay on the game's Facebook page, noting that while it's almost completed there are understandable concerns about releasing a small indie game during the silly season that is Q4. The delay also allows Sparpweed to introduce online as well as local co-op.

Based on what we've seen so far, Ibb and Obb looks to be worth the wait. In fact, we've already been waiting since 2008 when the game first showed up at Indiecade. It's set in what Sparpweed calls a non-Newtonian world, with gravity operating in opposite directions on different sides of the ground. Confused? No worries, there's a handy gameplay video just above.
PSN co-op platformer Ibb and Obb postponed until Spring 2013 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 08 Oct 2012 12:00:00 EST. A representative for publisher Kalypso tells us that the company is currently "aiming for early February" as its new release window.

Omerta departs from the simulation aspects of Tropico by also providing a turn-based battle system. It didn't, in case you were wondering. Rockstar has delayed Hostage Negotiation to "later this fall," for $10 on PSN and PC and 800 MS Points on Xbox 360.

Hostage Negotiation includes four new multiplayer maps, the nightclubs Club Moderno and Estádio Do Galatians, and the favelas of O Palácio Strip Club and Favela Heights. Hostage Negotiation adds two new rifles, Explosive Burst booby traps, the Bomb Suit, Intimidation Mask and Filhos De Ogum avatar faction.

The following packs, Painful Memories and Deathmatch Made in Heaven, were previously announced with October release dates. Rockstar says it's "working hard" to get everything out in a timely manner.

"Our apologies to Max Payne fans who've been waiting for this one and the other upcoming packs - we're working hard to bring you this and all the other DLC and should have a release date to announce for this next pack very soon," Rockstar writes. To compensate for the wait time, Rockstar promises a new chrome weapons bonus redeemable for free to all Social Club members later this week.
Max Payne 3 Hostage Negotiation DLC pushed back from the ledge originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 02 Oct 2012 23:00:00 EST.
