Eidos Montreal confirmed through its <a href="http://thiefgame.tumblr.com/post/51001884975/today-were-proud-to-announce-that">official Tumblr</a> today that <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/thief-2014/">Thief</a></em> will be coming to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-one">Xbox One</a>. The game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/11/eidos-montreal-confirms-thief-4-worst-kept-secret-in-industry/">first announced in 2009</a>, was confirmed for PS4, PC and other next-gen consoles in <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/05/thief-2014/">March</a>, which we can now take to mean the next-generation <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/xbox-reveal">Xbox revealed today</a>.<br />
<br />
The <em>Thief</em> reboot reportedly suffered <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/report-thief-reboot-suffered-multiple-setbacks/">many setbacks</a> during its five-year development period, including significant <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/14/report-thief-4-development-in-trouble/">turnover in staff</a> at Eidos Montreal. The developer included a "glimpse" at the next-gen game in its Tumblr post in the form of a screen with an <em>alarming</em> amount of fire in it.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/21/thief-sneaks-onto-xbox-one/">Thief sneaks onto Xbox One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 21 May 2013 17:55:00 EST. Citing an anonymous source close to Eidos Montreal, Polygon <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/4/26/4269912/thief-reboot-impeded-by-office-politics-high-level-departures">reports</a> that the team's planned reboot of the <i>Thief</i> series has run aground of several major issues over its troubled five-year development period.<br />
<br />
According to the source, many senior members of <i>Thief</i>'s team previously worked together at Ubisoft Montreal, and favoritism played a role in subsequent hiring practices, alienating fellow developers. High-ranking design roles saw an unusually quick turnover; some key members would leave the project less than two years after joining, and replacement designers would bog down the project by rebuilding or scrapping content.<br />
<br />
Amidst office politics, the project was sidetracked by difficult-to-create press demos that strayed from initial concepts greenlit by publisher Square Enix. Polygon's source claims that <i>Thief</i>'s production costs have inflated beyond initial estimates, and the project has changed so much over its development that content originally pitched to Square Enix no longer loads in the current build's heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3.<br />
<br />
Square Enix is expected to show off <i>Thief</i> at E3 in June.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/30/report-thief-reboot-suffered-multiple-setbacks/">Report: Thief reboot suffered multiple setbacks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 30 Apr 2013 20:15:00 EST. Activating it will disable elements on the heads-up display and tone down master thief Garrett's special abilities. If you want to sneak through unseen - sans notifications, contextual helpers and slow-motion swipes - this will be the way to do it.<br /><br />With modern recording and social sharing capabilities, you'll even be able to prove you finished the game ... without alerting anyone. <p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/04/be-an-old-school-creep-in-thief/">Be an old-school creep in Thief</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Apr 2013 09:00:00 EST. Meanwhile, unused alternative headline to this article: "Square Enix passes on opportunity to sell <em>Deus Ex</em> twice."<br /><br />The improvements include graphical updates, goodies like a strategy guide and - easily the most important tweak - a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/deus-ex-human-revolution-boss-fights-on-wii-u-as-they-should-h/">reworking of those abysmal boss fights</a>. "We took them and completely rebuilt them. We couldn't change [the boss' character] model and the way they need to die because of the story telling, but we changed the level layout. We tweaked their AI and we've added tons of ways to deal with them."<br /><br />He continued, "You can deal with a boss fight in a stealth way, you can deal with a boss fight in a hacking way. We even have for each boss fight a way to kill them without firing a single bullet."<br /><br />Pedneault showed us the first boss fight, pointing out all the different ways that it could now be completed using other skills beyond "throw every grenade in your inventory and just keep shooting." There are several corridors now for stealth attacks and turrets for hacking, along with other goodies for players to discover.<br /><br />The boss fights were widely criticized when <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em> originally launched, with Eidos Montreal eventually admitting it <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/eidos-montreal-fesses-up-to-poor-boss-fights-in-deus-ex-human-r/">farmed out that portion</a> of the game to an outside developer. <em>Deus Ex</em> DLC "The Missing Link," bundled with the Wii U version, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/26/deus-ex-dlc-fixes-boss-fights-well-at-least-this-one/">designed in-house at Eidos Montreal</a> gave a far more flexible experience. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/">Deux Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10353dxhrdcwiiuaction01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10354dxhrdcwiiuinfolog_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748897"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10355dxhrdcwiiurpg01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748898"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10356dxhrdcwiiusocial_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748899"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10357dxhrdcwiiustealth_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/deus-ex-human-revolution-boss-fights-on-wii-u-as-they-should-h/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution boss fights on Wii U 'as they should have been'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Mar 2013 12:10:00 EST. The Wii U version includes Tong's Rescue mission and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-review/">The Missing Link</a> DLC, which the Square Enix studio says are integrated into the <em>Director's Cut</em> narrative.<br /><br />Today's announcement reveals the <em>Director's Cut </em>employs a selection of GamePad features, such as "touchscreen hacking, interactive map editing, augmented sniping, grenade throwbacks, and many other neural hub enhancements." Eidos Montreal also says the Wii U version brings improvements to the game's boss fights, balance, combat, AI, and visuals, along with developer commentaries, in-game guides, and Miiverse integration.<br /><br /><em>DX:HR Director's Cut</em> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/19/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/">leaked by Amazon</a> yesterday, which listed the game's release date in the United States as May 7. While today's announcement comes via Eidos Montreal, the developer isn't yet specified. Australian studio Straight Right is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/report-major-square-enix-game-receiving-wii-u-port-by-mass-effe/">reportedly</a> bringing a major Square Enix game to the Wii U, so it may well be involved.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> According to a piece on <a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-20-deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut-for-wii-u-confirmed-and-yes-theyve-fixed-the-boss-battles">Eurogamer</a>, Straight Right - the same studio who <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/29/mass-effect-3-wii-u-developed-by-australian-studio-straight-righ/">ported <em>Mass Effect 3</em> over to the Wii U</a> - is co-developing this along with Eidos Montreal. Some more information is also provided about the retooled boss fights, which players can now overcome without having to fire a single bullet - alternate strategies and such will be put in place to offer players variety beyond direct conflict in <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>'s three boss battles.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/">Deux Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748895"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10353dxhrdcwiiuaction01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748896"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10354dxhrdcwiiuinfolog_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748897"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10355dxhrdcwiiurpg01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748898"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10356dxhrdcwiiusocial_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/deux-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut/#5748899"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/03/10357dxhrdcwiiustealth_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut-announced-for-wii-u-c/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut announced for Wii U, 'coming soon' [Update: Straight Right developing]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/20/deus-ex-human-revolution-directors-cut-announced-for-wii-u-c/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut announced for Wii U, 'coming soon' [Update: Straight Right developing]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 20 Mar 2013 09:30:00 EST. Square Enix Europe filed the <a href="http://tmview.europa.eu/tmview/basicSearch.html?ST13=EM500000011605474">trademark</a>, and the list of goods associated with it heavily indicates a game in development.<br /><br />Square Enix hasn't announced a sequel, and <em>Human Revolution</em> developer Eidos Montreal is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/square-enix-montreal-opening-in-2012-working-on-hitman-eidos-m/">understood</a> to be working on an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/square-enix-montreal-opening-in-2012-working-on-hitman-eidos-m/">unannounced third project</a> that's "alongside" the Deus Ex and Thief franchises. Straight Right, the <em>Mass Effect 3</em> developer for Wii U, is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/report-major-square-enix-game-receiving-wii-u-port-by-mass-effe/">reportedly</a> porting a major Square Enix game to the Nintendo console, and if that's accurate <em>Human Revolution</em> is a contender and <em>Human Defiance</em> may relate to that.<br /><br />At this moment, however, Square Enix has kept any upcoming entries in the Deus Ex franchise as stealthily hidden as Adam Jensen in an air vent - perhaps until now, that is. We've reached out to the company for comment.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: A company representative tells us, "Square Enix does not comment on rumor and speculation."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/27/deus-ex-human-defiance-trademarked-by-square-enix/">Deus Ex: Human Defiance trademarked by Square Enix [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Feb 2013 08:13:00 EST. During the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, the shrink wrap officially came off, and Square Enix allowed members of the press to sit down and play the two multiplayer modes they're currently willing to reveal from the upcoming Lara Croft reboot.<br /><br />Team Deathmatch was the first, but its clash of warring sides offered nothing fresh on the staple multiplayer mode. The other mode, however, offered much more promise. In the mode dubbed Rescue, two teams are tasked with separate goals. Lara Croft's faction, the Scavengers, is sent after a medpack item in the level, and given a goal zone to bring it back to, scoring five times to win. The opposing team, called the Solarii, is given a kill goal (20 in the current build, though that may change), with the trick being that shooting the other side will only down them, making it necessary for the trigger-happy team to run to and finish off their wounded enemy in order to score a point.<br /><br />While Team Deathmatch is more or less standard multiplayer chaos, the balance of goals in Rescue makes the mode vastly more interesting. And while the screenshots will probably bring plenty of suggestions that Eidos is borrowing a page from the <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/uncharted"><em>Uncharted</em></a> playbook, the complexity hints that there's something new here.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tomb-raider-2013-multiplayer/">Tomb Raider (2013) multiplayer</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tomb-raider-2013-multiplayer/#5566447"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/trm3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tomb-raider-2013-multiplayer/#5566464"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/trm2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tomb-raider-2013-multiplayer/#5566465"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2013/01/trm1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/14/borrowing-campaign-crafted-viciousness-for-tomb-raiders-multipl/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Borrowing campaign-crafted viciousness for Tomb Raider's multiplayer mode</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/14/borrowing-campaign-crafted-viciousness-for-tomb-raiders-multipl/">Borrowing campaign-crafted viciousness for Tomb Raider's multiplayer mode</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 14 Jan 2013 16:30:00 EST. Developer Eidos Montreal will have a stake in the film, <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118056377?refCatId=13">Variety</a> reports, with CBS Films working "closely" with Eidos Montreal on adapting the game for the big screen.<br /><br />"No one knows <em>Human Revolution</em> like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the 'Deus Ex' name," CBS Films co-president Terry Press said. After all, it took Eidos Montreal four years to bring <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> to retail - almost how long <em>Thief 4</em> has been in development.<br /><br />According to a report on <a href="http://kotaku.com/5918203/thief-4-is-that-you">Kotaku</a> from internet sleuth <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/supererogatory">Superannuation</a>, not only did audio director and composer <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/earcom">Paul Weir</a> leave Eidos Montreal, but so did lead level designer <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/adamalim">Adam Alim</a>, senior concept artists <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/nicolasferrand">Nicolas Ferrand</a> and <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/danblomberg">Dan Blomberg</a>, senior technical level designer <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/eugene-kuczerepa/7/791/a22">Eugene Kuczerepa</a>, senior animator <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/marie-chantal-larocque/7/639/91b">Marie-Chantal Larocque</a> and senior level designer <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/patgaron">Patrick Garon</a>. In addition to the departures, there's also apparently a completed CG trailer created by Goldtooth Creative - the same firm responsible for <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>'s CG and cutscenes - that never saw the light of day, and was planned for a December 2011 unveiling, according to <a href="http://markrelf.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/markrelfcv2011.pdf">this resume</a>.<br /><br />So what could be the situation? One level designer still at Eidos Montreal says <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/pub/fabien-morisson/9/303/650">he designed the last level</a> in the game - take from that what you will. In light of all this, we've followed up with Eidos Montreal and Square Enix for official comment.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/14/report-thief-4-development-in-trouble/">Report: Thief 4 development in trouble</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2012 17:45:00 EST. Users have complained of in-game stuttering, even with lowered graphical settings, and say these issue have persisted since launch.<br /><br />Threads on the <a href="http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2075294">Steam</a> and <a href="http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=119684">Eidos</a> forums have languished since being posted in August, with no official response from Eidos despite each still being active with user complaints. <em>Skyrim</em> is going to get tons of accolades all over this year, and deservedly so, but <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> pulled me into its world more effectively than any other game in 2011.<br />
<br />
It didn't do everything right. Obviously, there were the boss battles. They required a narrow combat approach, playing to some of <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution's</em> weakest elements. But those encounters were only disappointing insofar as they contradicted the fluidity of gameplay styles and approaches the rest of <em>Human Revolution</em> offered.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/03/joystiq-top-10-of-2011-deus-ex-human-revolution/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/03/joystiq-top-10-of-2011-deus-ex-human-revolution/">Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jan 2012 20:45:00 EST. Following the strong reception of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution">Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a></em>, one report indicated Square Enix planned to expand developer Eidos Montreal by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/01/report-square-enix-to-expand-eidos-montreal-add-350-employees/">as many as 350 additional employees</a>, while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/16/square-enix-planning-new-canadian-studio-for-2012/">earlier reports suggested</a> that Square would establish a new studio elsewhere in Canada in 2012. Turns out, both were half right. Square Enix announced today plans to add 250 new jobs in Canada, with 100 going to the team at Eidos Montreal, and 150 being dedicated to a new studio named, cleverly enough, Square Enix Montreal.<br />
<br />
The 100 new employees at Eidos Montreal will be "driving work on a third AAA project at the studio" alongside the existing Deus Ex and Thief franchises, while the "first project at Square Enix Montr&eacute;al will be to work on a new premium quality game in the award-winning Hitman franchise," adding a second studio to augment Copenhagen-based IO Interactive's work on the series.<br />
<br />
The new studio will be under the guidance of general manager Lee Singleton, who's "been leading Square Enix London Studios, a UK-based team which focuses on shaping and bringing to market great games from some of the world's most talented independent development teams." Those games include <em>Just Cause 2</em> and <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum</em> which you've probably never heard of.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/square-enix-montreal-opening-in-2012-working-on-hitman-eidos-m/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Square Enix Montreal opening in 2012, working on Hitman; Eidos Montreal adds 100, working on 'third AAA project'</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/21/square-enix-montreal-opening-in-2012-working-on-hitman-eidos-m/">Square Enix Montreal opening in 2012, working on Hitman; Eidos Montreal adds 100, working on 'third AAA project'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Nov 2011 11:30:00 EST. Even though the recent release of "The Missing Link" DLC featured <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/26/deus-ex-dlc-fixes-boss-fights-well-at-least-this-one/">a more appropriate boss encounter</a>, the majority of <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>'s boss fights force players to forgo whichever strategy they employed throughout the game and, you know, just shoot 'em in the face. Unless that <em>is</em> your strategy, in which case all we have to say is: <em>you monster</em>.<br />
<br />
Eidos Montr&eacute;al producer David Anfossi told <a href="http://www.next-gen.biz/news/eidos-montreal-admits-deus-ex-boss-error">Edge</a> that farming out the boss fights to Grip Entertainment was a mistake -- not because Grip failed, but because the implementation and design of boss encounters was poor. "We knew that it would be a weakness for the game, that we had to make a compromise to deliver it [on] two levels. First, the boss fights were forced, which is not the <em>Deus Ex</em> experience. Second, there is no mix [of] solutions to tackle the boss fights, which is not <em>Deus Ex </em>either. We knew that before the release of the game, but there had to be some compromise. It [was] our decision."<br />
<br />
That's not to say Anfossi isn't proud of <em>Deus Ex</em> -- he's quite content with the hacking, stealth, social and combat aspects of the game -- but if he had a chance to do it all again, he'd handle the boss fights differently rather than taking them out entirely. "There are two options: no boss fights, or do boss fights correctly. I'm pretty sure that now we have the knowledge to do it correctly."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/04/eidos-montreal-fesses-up-to-poor-boss-fights-in-deus-ex-human-r/">Eidos Montreal fesses up to poor boss fights in Deus Ex: Human Revolution</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 04 Nov 2011 08:40:00 EST. <em>Deus Ex</em>-cellent DLC "The Missing Link" is available today for PC, Xbox 360 and, once the update occurs later today, PSN. The five- to six-hour campaign finds augmented security agent Adam Jensen on a mother lovin' boat, but not the kind you see in rap videos. Check out our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/14/deus-ex-human-revolution-the-missing-link-review/">review</a> to find out what you'll receive for $15.</div>

For those who haven't picked up the game of the year contender yet, Amazon and Steam have some significant discounts on the game for a limited time. On PC, Valve's platform has the title at <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/28050">25 percent off for $37.49</a> as part of its "midweek madness" sale, while Amazon's downloadable version is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Deus-Ex-Revolution-Standard-Download/dp/B005HRZ29K/ref=amb_link_357803702_5?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-6&amp;pf_rd_r=0G3PEHBAVBPS24TC9F55&amp;pf_rd_t=1401&amp;pf_rd_p=1324910162&amp;pf_rd_i=1000208101">40 percent off and $29.99</a>. Console owners can grab <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em> for $36 from Amazon as part of the site's "deal of the week" promotion.<br />

The <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em> soundtrack is currently listed on Amazon with a November 15 release date and $12.95 price. Publisher Square Enix informs us that official details on other retailers providing the soundtrack should be available later this week.<br />
<br />
The soundtrack was previously available in the "Augmented Edition" of the game, with a slight <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/deus-ex-augmented-edition-soundtrack-solution-found-for-north/">hiccup on the PS3 version</a>. The <em>Deus Ex </em>conspiracy deepens when <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-missing-link/">The Missing Link DLC</a> augments the known story line later this month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/11/deus-ex-human-revolution-soundtrack-available-on-amazon-nov-15/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack available on Amazon Nov. 15</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 20:15:00 EST. Eidos Montreal is so eager to prove that the <i>"</i>The Missing Link" offers a substantial, challenging addition to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, it'll let someone play a tiny bit of the DLC for you before it drops later this month.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/10/10/take-a-walk-through-deus-ex-human-revolutions-missing-link-dlc/">Take a walk through Deus Ex: Human Revolution's Missing Link DLC</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 16:50:00 EST. As much as we loved <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, we weren't crazy about being wedged into an irritating shootout whenever a boss reared its cyber-head. While we tried to roleplay as The Rock in <em>The Rundown</em> (you know, vow against guns, relying on our brains and fists), <em>Human Revolution</em> seemed intent on turning us into The Rock in -- well, pretty much every other movie he's in ... and the end of <em>The Rundown</em>, come to think of it.<br />
<br />
Eurogamer reports that all changes in DLC "The Missing Link," which Eidos Montreal developed totally in-house, rather than (as in the case of <em>Human Revolution</em>) farming boss battles out to another studio. Missing Link producer Marc-Andre Dufort said, "You can actually not kill the boss. You can do a non-lethal takedown on him. And you can kill him from afar. You can even kill him without him seeing you. It's more of a bigger challenge than a standard boss fight like we have in many games."<br />
<br />
Fine, Mr. Dufort. But will we be able to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqnjK79fGSw">steal their teeth while they are asleep</a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/26/deus-ex-dlc-fixes-boss-fights-well-at-least-this-one/">Deus Ex DLC fixes boss fights (well, at least this one)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 11:35:00 EST. <br />
I'm not sure if <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution's</em> first add-on, "The Missing Link", could have stumbled into view more clumsily than it did. A sort of alternate reality game revealed its existence, but clever players figured out more than Square-Enix and Eidos Montreal bargained for, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/02/deus-ex-website-rss-reveals-missing-link-dlc-details/">leaking the premise</a> and "The Missing Link's" primary gameplay conceit without any sort of context. It really hurt the general excitement levels for one of the most well-received games of the year.<br />

I'm here to give you that context. <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em>'s "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/30/deus-ex-human-revolution-augmented-edition-and-pre-order-pack/">Augmented Edition</a>" for PS3 accidentally had the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/07/deus-ex-augmented-edition-blu-ray-soundtrack-issue-solution-in/">game's soundtrack on a Blu-ray disc</a>, but customers in North American can now obtain an MP3 version from publisher Square Enix.<br />
<br />
Square Enix contacted us this afternoon with instructions on how "Augmented Edition" purchasers can obtain a digital copy of the soundtrack by <a href="http://release.square-enix.com/na/2011/09/16_01.html">contacting customer support</a>. After proving proof of purchase, the user will receive a "time-limited redemption download link" by email. If they enter the wrong code, a stealth operative will back-hack their computer and upload the <em>Jersey Shore</em> soundtrack. (No, not really. <em>God</em>, you're gullible.)<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/deus-ex-augmented-edition-soundtrack-solution-found-for-north/">Deus Ex 'Augmented Edition' soundtrack solution found for North America</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Sep 2011 19:50:00 EST. If, while playing the PC version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>, your heads-up display inexplicably disappeared, don't worry! Your techno-magical eyeballs haven't fallen out of your cyberhead -- that was a bug in the programming (the game's, not Adam's) which was fixed by a patch that recently launched on <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/news/6272/">Steam</a>.<br />
<br />
Other fixes in the update include a remedy for a plethora of crashes, frame-stuttering issues and an option to skip the logo screens whenever you start up the game. We wish every video game valued our time in this manner. Check out all the updates after the jump.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/deus-ex-pc-patch-now-live-on-steam/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex PC patch now live on Steam</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/deus-ex-pc-patch-now-live-on-steam/">Deus Ex PC patch now live on Steam</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 16 Sep 2011 13:20:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> plays host to a wide assortment of advertisements for fictional future-products (like robot eyes and face-installed sunglasses) -- but the game now sports a promo for a real-life, purchasable <em>thing</em>. The game's loading screen occasionally includes a tiny banner announcing the launch of the <em>Star Wars </em>Blu-ray trilogy, as seen in the corner of the image posted above.<br />
<br />
Some of the billboards built into the game's environment are equipped to sport <a href="http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/08/22/deus-ex-human-revolution-has-in-game-advertising/">dynamic advertisements</a>, but we haven't noticed anything as unsubtle as this. We suppose it could be worse! The advertisement could just pop up during a climactic boss battle. Or Darth Vader could just make a totally out-of-place cameo in one of Detroit's seedy alleyways. Actually, no, wait. That would be <em>rad</em>.<br />

<a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a> has shipped 2 million copies across North America, Europe and PAL territories, Square Enix announced today. Although that's "shipped" and not "sold," the game is certainly no slouch in that department, having topped the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/05/deus-ex-maintains-uk-top-spot-driver-races-into-second/">UK</a> charts since launch and the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/august-npd-annual-sales-drop-again-deus-ex-augments-the-top-sp/">US</a> sales chart for August.<br />
<br />
Next up for <em>Human Revolution</em> is the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/deus-ex-missing-link-dlc-gets-a-trailer-more-details/">"Missing Link" DLC</a>, available next month. Square Enix is also certainly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/01/report-square-enix-to-expand-eidos-montreal-add-350-employees/">augmenting</a> its development staff at Eidos Montreal to get more content out and fast-track that inevitable sequel.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/deus-ex-human-revolution-ships-2-million-units/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships 2 million units</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/deus-ex-human-revolution-ships-2-million-units/">Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships 2 million units</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 12:40:00 EST. <br />
Square Enix has shed some more light on Adam Jensen's retroactively mysterious disappearance covered in the upcoming "The Missing Link" downloadable content for <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/deus-ex-human-revolution"><em>Deus Ex: Human Revolution</em></a>. As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/06/deus-ex-human-revolutions-missing-link-dlc-due-in-october/">previously revealed</a>, the DLC fills in a three-day chunk of <em>Deus Ex</em>, during which Jensen loses the use of his cybernetic augmentations.<br />
<br />
We assumed the DLC would include new characters and story, but today Square officially revealed a much more interesting tidbit: The ability to "rebuild Adam's augmentation set." In other words, players will be able to reapply those wasted Praxis points on more useful augmentations. We're guessing Jensen is still stuck with his most useless augmentation, however, that being his <em>permanent</em> sunglasses.<br />
<br />
"The Missing Link" will arrive next month.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/deus-ex-missing-link-dlc-gets-a-trailer-more-details/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Deus Ex 'Missing Link' DLC gets a trailer, more details</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/08/deus-ex-missing-link-dlc-gets-a-trailer-more-details/">Deus Ex 'Missing Link' DLC gets a trailer, more details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 08 Sep 2011 12:50:00 EST. Though it's being outpaced by <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/02/deus-ex-website-rss-reveals-missing-link-dlc-details/">unglamorous leaks</a>, the <em>Deus Ex</em> DLC drip-feed continues with a few more details on <em>Human Revolution</em>'s upcoming add-on. Square Enix has announced that "The Missing Link" will be available in October, bringing with it new environments, characters and some narrative embellishment.<br />
