Capcom rolls out Fate/Unlimited Codes on PSN next week

Capcom's latest downloadable title, Fate/Unlimited Codes, is set to drop on the PlayStation Store on September 3. Developed by Eighting (the team behind Tatsunoko Vs Capcom), Fate/Unlimited Codes is a fighter specifically designed for the PSP Go, based on a popular Japanese anime franchise.

Originally a PlayStation 2 title in Japan in 2008, Fate/Unlimited Codes has been available for the PSP in the Far East since June, but the pseudo-3D fighter hopes to make a splash when it lands on North American and European shores next week. The story of Fate/Unlimited Codes goes like this: Seven masters and servants battle for control of a small Japanese town's "Holy Grail," which can grant the winner anything they wish. What would we wish for? For it to be September 3, so we can get our hands on Capcom's latest. Oh, and a pony!

Fate/Unlimited Codes coming to PSN 'early September'

Antsy to get your hands on the latest installment of Capcom's cartoon porn-turned-fighting franchise, Fate/Unlimited Codes? Great news: a press release we received earlier today narrowed the game's launch window down from an ambiguous "winter" to a somewhat less ambiguous "early September." Considering PSN releases materialize on Thursdays, our money's on Sept. 3 or Sept. 10 -- but don't quote us on that!

In case you're interested, the download-only title will run you $29.99. Then again, we bet you aren't that interested. In fact, we're pretty sure you're reading this because you did a Google search for "cartoon porn," in which case, shame on you.

Fate/unlimited codes also download-only in Europe, but Capcom isn't giving up on UMD

Just like in North America, Capcom will release the PSP fighting game Fate/unlimited codes in Europe as a download. But that doesn't mean the publisher is abandoning UMD. The Capcom Europe rep who confirmed the European release of the game to MCV also said, "We certainly do not intend to stop supporting UMD." The representative went on to say, "Certainly for us PSP is very important - more so with Monster Hunter coming - than maybe any other publisher." Of course, Capcom may have to end up dropping UMD if Sony does.

It's no surprise that Capcom would be hesitant to do anything to downplay the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, including speak ill of its format. It was the best-selling game in Japan last year, and thus is probably pretty important to Capcom.

Capcom bringing Fate/Unlimited Codes to US as PSN-exclusive

Looks like the PSP is getting yet another full download-only game. Following the footsteps of Patapon 2, Capcom has announced that its upcoming release of Fate/Unlimited Codes will be digital only. Coming to the PlayStation Store this winter, this fighter will be available for download for $29.99.

We're a bit surprised by this news, considering the bizarre origins of the Fate series. The franchise has expanded to a number of mediums, but it originally started as an adult visual novel. (That's a classier way of saying "animated porn," folks.) Don't expect anything too risque in the PSP game though -- it's rated T for Teen.

Fate/Unlimited Codes: another PSP fighter you won't play

Capcom continues churning out the Fate games on PSP. Fate/Unlimited Codes is a PSP port of the arcade (and PS2) game that released in Japan not too long ago. The PSP version of the fighter will have new features, like "Reflect Dash" and new costumes. No Infrastructure play as usual, but it will feature Ad-Hoc.
