Square Enix has never released sales information for the iPhone version, but it must have found some justification in its pricing structure as the iPad version just launched for $17.99.<br /><br />Now, we're not saying <em>War of the Lions</em> isn't worth almost 20 dollars, but for a game that <em>isn't</em> a Universal App, and is <em>also</em> available on PSN for a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/psn-tuesday-limbo-new-vegas-old-world-blues/#psp">single sawbuck</a>, it's kind of a tough pill to swallow.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/23/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-hits-ipad-for-18/">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions hits iPad for $18</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 23 Feb 2012 20:45:00 EST. <br />
It missed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/18/final-fantasy-tactics-coming-to-iphone-in-late-june-mid-july-ip/">late June</a>. It missed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/30/final-fantasy-tactics-ios-delayed-until-late-july-square-is-ver/">late July</a>. But today, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</a></em> makes its triumphant debut on the iOS App Store for the low, low price of $15.99.<br />
<br />
Wait, $15.99?<br />
<br />
Sure, that may seem like a steep price for a game that's an update of a four-year-old PSP title, that was in and of itself an update of a then ten-year-old PlayStation One title, but you're not getting a straight port. The iPhone release promises "improved graphics, loading times and framerate over the PSP version" which, considering the complaints levied at the PSP release, is to be expected. Then again, the PSP version was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/18/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-advances-to-psn-this/">just released on PSN</a> for the relatively <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/19/psn-tuesday-limbo-new-vegas-old-world-blues/#psp">low price of $10</a>.<br />
<br />
One thing that $15.99 price tag won't deliver, however, is a "universal" iPad release. That's just Square's way of saying that those of you interested in playing on your phone <em>and your</em> tablet oughta be rich enough to buy two copies. The iPad version will be "coming later," so sit tight. If you pick up that iPhone release, let us know what you think.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/04/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-now-on-iphone-separ/">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions now on iPhone, separate iPad version 'coming later'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 11:30:00 EST. <br />
While it may have missed the "<a href="http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150230251056301&amp;comments">July...twen..blah..blah..</a>" release window that was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/30/final-fantasy-tactics-ios-delayed-until-late-july-square-is-ver/">promised before</a>, Square Enix will finally bring menus and moogles to mobiles this Thursday. That's when the strategic wizards-on-a-grid simulator, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</a>, </em>lands on Apple's iPhone.<br />
<br />
It's important to note that the game will only be compatible with iPhone 4s and <em>3GSeses</em>, and that iPad players will need to wait for the iPad-specific version, which <em>should</em> be launching around a month from Thursday. Historically, though, it's never been a good idea to count your chocobos before they've hatched.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/01/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-hits-iphone-this-thu/">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions hits iPhone this Thursday</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 11:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em></a> was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/30/final-fantasy-tactics-ios-delayed-until-late-july-square-is-ver/">delayed</a> until sometime late this month on iPhone. We don't know exactly when that is, but we <em>do</em> know you'll be able to download the game as soon as tomorrow ... on PSP.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/07/17/the-drop-week-of-july-18th-2011-new-releases/">PlayStation Blog</a> revealed that the PSP version of the strategy remake will be available on PSN tomorrow, July 19. It has new cutscenes, characters, and items not seen in the PSOne original.<br />
<br />
In other retro-ish PSN news, you'll also be able to download a bunch of "Mini" versions of old SNK games that were all released as part of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/01/snk-arcade-classics-0-for-psp-goes-deep-into-the-back-catalog/">single UMD</a> in Japan, as well as a PSOne Classics version of <a href="http://users.telenet.be/twin-dreams/PSone/Kyuiin.html"><em>Kyuiin</em></a>, a shmup starring a kid on a flying vacuum cleaner.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/07/18/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-advances-to-psn-this/">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions advances to PSN this week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Jul 2011 11:15:00 EST. Listen, potential purchasers of Square Enix's iOS port of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em></a> -- the game's development team is going to need one more extension. You know they're good for it! According to the game's <a href="http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150230251056301&amp;comments">Facebook page</a>, the team had to put a little extra TLC into the port to ensure it runs as butter-smooth as you expect. With sincere apologies, a representative announced the game's iPhone arrival is now slated for "July...twen..blah..blah," while the iPad version will come a month later. So, August...twen..blah..blah, then.<br />
<br />
The apology also came with a quick FAQ, which revealed that the game will not be compatible with iPhone 3G devices, nor will it contain any multiplayer modes. What will it contain, then? Well, Chocobo, for one thing. Also, <em>Firaga</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/30/final-fantasy-tactics-ios-delayed-until-late-july-square-is-ver/">Final Fantasy Tactics iOS delayed until late July, Square is very sorry</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 30 Jun 2011 17:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.facebook.com/notes/square-enix-dlg/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-for-iphone-release-date/10150190079621301">Square Enix DLG Facebook page</a> recently delivered a long-overdue update on the status of the iOS version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-tactics">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</a>. </em>It's currently slated to arrive on the iPhone in late June to mid-July. That's a little outside of its initial Spring 2011 launch window, but we're willing to give Square the benefit of the doubt, and label said time period as "very, very late Spring."<br />
<br />
The update also mentions the game's iPad version, which will arrive "slightly behind" the iPhone version. The delay is attributed to the port's higher resolution -- a feature which Square is taking full advantage of by re-drawing some of the game's jaggier artwork. We were hoping that they'd take the time to also give the game's characters some noses, but we suppose beggars can't be choosers.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/18/final-fantasy-tactics-coming-to-iphone-in-late-june-mid-july-ip/">Final Fantasy Tactics coming to iPhone in late June/mid-July, iPad later</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 18 May 2011 13:00:00 EST. Japanese manga magazine V-Jump <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2011/02/19/final-fantasy-iii-changes-handhelds-headed-to-iphone/">recently outed</a> Square Enix's plans to dominate the iPhone App Store's RPG offerings, coming in the form of two major titles set to launch this year in Japan. The first we already knew: <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</a></em>, which is (still!) due out sometime this Spring. The other is an iOS-friendly version of <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/final-fantasy-iii">Final Fantasy III</a> --</em> which is to say, the NES game which only just came stateside on the Nintendo DS in 2006, and not <em>Final Fantasy VI</em>, which came to the U.S. under the title <em>Final Fantasy III</em>, which will <em>never</em> stop being confusing.<br />
<br />
V-Jump didn't share any details on when the game would arrive, or if it would be ported stateside; though Square Enix has a pretty good track record for bringing their games to the U.S. hastily. It's unclear which version of the game we'll get, though: The original NES title? The cancelled WonderSwan version? The 3D-modeled DS version? The 2D fighting game featuring NBA superstars? Oh, wait. Scratch that. We confused <em>Final Fantasy III</em> with <em>Shaq-Fu</em> again.<br type="_moz" /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/02/20/square-enix-bringing-final-fantasy-iii-to-iphone/">Square Enix bringing Final Fantasy III to iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 20 Feb 2011 15:30:00 EST. Square Enix has just announced a release window of Spring 2011 on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/notes/square-enix-dlg/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-for-iphone-will-be-released-2011-spri/472733836300">Facebook</a>, and posted a few screens showing the new touchscreen interface for the strategy game.<br />
<br />
Feeling sad about the long wait? Don't worry: as one of Sony's "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/psp-favorites">PSP Favorites</a>," the PSP version of the same game retails for just $9.99. So you can play <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em> while you patiently hold out for the release of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-iphone/">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (iPhone)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-iphone/#3674651"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/63401101500951959343651678313793647375405622867n_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-iphone/#3674652"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/1541511015009519570436516783137936473754031928103n_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-iphone/#3674653"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/154364101500951960943651678313793647375406229133n_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-iphone/#3674658"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/1555011015009519542936516783137936473754004183797n-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-iphone/#3674663"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2010/12/1567041015009519564436516783137936473754011207143n_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/14/final-fantasy-tactics-for-iphone-strategically-delayed-until-spr/">Final Fantasy Tactics for iPhone strategically delayed until spring 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 14 Dec 2010 02:00:00 EST. In a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/secret-of-mana-coming-to-iphone-this-year/">continued push</a> to bring <em>awesome games we've loved forever</em> onto the thing we use to make phone calls, Square Enix <a href="http://gaygamer.net/2010/06/e3_10_final_fantasy_tactics_co.html">revealed during E3</a> that <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em> would soon make its way to the iPhone. The teaser trailer posted after the jump features the opening cinematic from the PSP port of the game, meaning we won't have to suffer the occasionally spotty translations featured in the original PS1 version.<br />

Square has yet to reveal the game's price, but did confirm that it would hit the App Store on September 15.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/24/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-coming-to-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions coming to iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/24/final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions-coming-to-iphone/">Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions coming to iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Jun 2010 00:00:00 EST. PSP had a number of excellent SRPG games to choose from during last year's holiday season. <em>Final Fantasy Tacticsc: The War of the Lions</em> was one of them. The quintessential PS1 game got a makeover when it moved to PSP, with beautiful new cutscenes and a whole bevvy of new quests. The game is now available for a 50% discount on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SSPH3E/102-5777777-4084119?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=prey0f&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=B000SSPH3E">amazon.com</a> -- $20. If you missed out on this title last year, this may be a good time to jump.<br />

<em>Jeanne d'Arc</em> and <em>Disgaea</em> aren't the only SRPGs that will take residence on the PSP. A new PSP-enhanced version of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em>, called <em>The War of the Lions</em>, will be available nationwide October 9th. The War of the Lions divide the land of Ivalice in two. The story is told through the eyes of two men as they're entrapped by the war: Delita Heiral and Ramza Beoulve.<br />
<br />
New to the PSP version is a new job class: the Onion Knight. In addition, the game will be enhanced with new 16:9 graphics, a brand new translation and fully voiced anime cutscenes (the Japanese version did not feature any VA). A new multiplayer function allows you to battle other players, or play cooperatively against the AI.<br />
<br />
Check out the huge media blowout we secured for you. You'll find new art, screenshots are more in our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/final-fantasy-tactics/">updated gallery</a>.<br />

T.G. Cid, not to mention the Calculator class). The localized US version of the PSP remake address multiple issues that were left open in the now seemingly half-finished Japanese release.<br />
<br />
Slowdown has been mostly eliminated -- this plagued the Japanese version and a heck of a lot of other PSP titles as well. We know the game has been fully voiced now, but we're kind of disappointed to see the introspective text on a black background get removed. How else will we know Ramza's innermost thoughts and feelings? An issue still remaining is the so-called "flattening" of the musical score, but we can probably get over that.<br />
<br />
New features we'll at least mention are the multiplayer aspects where you can face off against a buddy or team up and explore special dungeons with set missions. These are ad-hoc only; no wireless online fun. Two new characters are made available to us: Luso from <em>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2</em> and Balthier from <em>Final Fantasy XII</em>. Don't ask how. Two new classes, Dark Knight and Onion Knight, are also available. The most important change is the complete re-translation of the text. It now sounds like something straight out of <em>Vagrant Story</em> or <em>Final Fantasy XII</em>, as it should. We can't wait to play one of our favorite classics again, especially since it sounds like the experience has been fleshed out into an almost completely new game.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/25/final-fantasty-tactics-issues-addressed-in-us-release/">Final Fantasty Tactics issues addressed in US release</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 25 Aug 2007 16:00:00 EST. <p>Remember the incredible voice acting and presentation of <em>Final Fantasy XII</em>? Well, it looks like PSP's upcoming <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> is getting the same high-quality treatment as its other Ivalice Alliance brethren. The voice acting is superb, and the dialogue is far away from the original, stilted PS1 translation. Bravo, Square Enix! Looked gorgeous, right? Well the Japanese boxart for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/finalfantasytactics"><em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em></a> on the PSP had a similar reaction from fans. Well you can all rest easy, as it seems the US (and the UK, presumably, due to its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/final-fantasy-tactics-to-get-simultaneous-us-and-uk-release/">simultaneous release</a>) boxes will be sporting a very similar design.<br />
<br />
While the image used on the box is the same for both territories, certain elements such as the title of the game have changed position. You can see the final design for the US box on the right, but check out out <a href="http://www.siliconera.com/2007/07/05/preserved-box-art-square-enix-keeps-the-original-layout-for-final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions/">Siliconera</a> for a side-by-side comparison with the JP art. Does it look pretty enough for you all?<br />

This week marks the release of the <em>Final Fantasy </em>remake on Sony PSP, the first Square Enix title to make it to the US. The RPG powerhouse showed a multitude of appetizing titles coming to the portable earlier this summer at their <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/26/square-enix-party-details-make-us-want-to-buy-a-ticket-to-tokyo/">massive party</a> at Tokyo's Makuhari Messe.<br />
<br />
Long-time Square Enix fans will find yourselves either dismayed or curiously nostalgic (probably a bit of both) by the sheer number of enhanced remakes -- five of the seven PSP titles are ghosts from the company's past with upgraded visuals and new content. What's left is a brawler with an assortment of fighters from the <span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy </span>universe and a long-in-development (though visually impressive) extension of the <span style="font-style: italic;">Final Fantasy VII</span> lore.<br />
<br />
Take a gander at the upcoming games after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/square-enix-in-your-pocket-psp-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Square Enix in your pocket: PSP edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/26/square-enix-in-your-pocket-psp-edition/">Square Enix in your pocket: PSP edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 26 Jun 2007 07:58:00 EST. <p>Our friends at <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3159855">1UP</a> have been playing a lot of the new <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> remake on PSP. It's fascinating to see what exactly is new about the game, and it's pretty surprising to see the vast number of improvements from the PS1 original. As expected, there are the new <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/09/final-fantasy-tactics-opening-moments/">cinematics</a>, but there's also a slew of new battles and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/05/new-final-fantasy-tactics-character-revealed/">characters</a> to face. Hopefully, the new localization of the game when it comes to the US will be a marked improvement from the awkward PS1 original. The game will hit American and European markets this <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/14/final-fantasy-tactics-to-get-simultaneous-us-and-uk-release/">October</a>.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/26/1up-show-final-fantasy-tactics/">The 1UP Show: Final Fantasy Tactics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 26 May 2007 00:00:00 EST. <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions</em> is officially coming to American and European territories. Ten years after its original release on PS1, this remake will feature <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/09/final-fantasy-tactics-opening-moments/">brilliant cinematics</a>, new jobs, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/18/more-ff-awesomeness-tactics-features-multiplayer-and-ffvii-kicks/">new multiplayer modes</a>, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/05/new-final-fantasy-tactics-character-revealed/">new characters</a> and story elements. The game will launch simultaneously in both North American and European markets this October.<br />

<p>We've seen small clips of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em>' gorgeous cutscenes. Now, watch the complete intro movie to the game. Square Enix is known for their outrageous production values, and this PSP remake certainly doesn't break the mold. The art is so gorgeous -- can we please have a feature length film that looks like this?<br />

<em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> is coming to Japan in just <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-57ld-71-9f-49-en-15-final+fantasy+tactics-84-j-70-1vj4.html">a few days</a>, and Square Enix is beginning their media assault on the public. Proudly proclaiming that it's coming for PSP, the <em>Tactics</em> remake ads interweave beautiful cutscenes and engrossing gameplay into one tantalizing experience. Every juicy morsel of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> that lands in front of us is a delight. This 30 second commercial for the upcoming PSP remake is filled with glorious animation and tantalizing gameplay. Japan only has to wait until <a href="http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-57ld-71-9f-49-en-15-final+fantasy+tactics-84-j-70-1vj4.html">May 10th</a> for the game to hit their systems, but the rest of us will have to wait for who knows how long.<br />
<br />
To get to this gorgeous video, visit the <a href="http://www.square-enix.co.jp/fft/main_fft.html">official <em>Tactics</em> website</a>, and go to "Movie &amp; Download." You'll see the TVCM there.<br />

As the <a href="http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?DRAZHJTP+http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-j/section-games/pid-1004677458/">Japanese release</a> of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> draws nearer, more details have slowly been revealed. <a href="http://ruliweb.empas.com/ruliboard/read.htm?table=game_psp&amp;num=15174&amp;main=psp">Ruliweb</a> has posted a scan, which features one of the enhanced port's new characters, LuSo. With the addition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/14/ffxii-characters-invade-tactics/"><em>Final Fantasy XII</em> characters</a>, it appears as though the cast of <em>Tactics</em> is becoming even larger than it already was. It appears portable gamers will have a lot to look forward to.<br />

Not too many games are big enough to warrant a box art story. Well, this one <em>is</em>. The Japanese <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> is as pretty as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/11/new-ff-tactics-shots-unearthed/">the game itself</a>. Click the image above to see a full, high-res version of the box. What do you think? Does it get you any more excited for the game?<br />

<p>At least if the US version is to have the same features as the Japanese one . Square Enix has told <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/772/772852p1.html">IGN</a> that the Japanese version of <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War </em>will have two player battles with a red team vs a blue team so that there is no confusion as to who you should injure mid-combat. Also you will have a limited number of turns to be victorious, thus preventing a tactics wimp from just running during an entire battle. I can't see them cutting this feature in the US given the popularity of multiplayer in the US, but I suppose we'll have to wait for confirmation to be sure.</p>

<p><em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War</em> may just be an upgraded port, but I can't help but get excited by it whenever I see new screens. In particular I love the addition of cinemas and the sketchy look of them. Though the battle scenes do look better than the PS1 original. <p>The highly anticipated remake of PS1's <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> finally has a release date. Famitsu's newest issue lists May 10th as the Japanese release date, with a price of 4,800 yen (no release date outside of the US was given). Of course the game isn't just a direct port, it'll have beautiful FMV cut-scenes and new character classes. Tactics games are one of my favorite game types to play on a portable, but there aren't many to choose from, so between this and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/17/look-forward-to-disgaea-says-nis-employee/">Disgaea</a></em>, it'll be a good year for tactics fans with a PSP.</p>

It should come as no surprise that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/06/psp-fanboy-theatre-volume-1/">new cutscenes</a> in <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> are impressive. However, how does the gameplay compare? <a href="http://www.the-magicbox.com/0701/game070119a.shtml">The Magic Box</a> has tons of screenshots for you to gaze over. Are the widescreen PS1 quality graphics winning you over? Or, do you wish that Square Enix put a little bit more effort into this?<br />

Considering how both <em>FFXII</em> and <em>FFT</em> share the same universe: Ivalice, it wouldn't be surprising to see even more characters make the transition.<br />

<em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> is one of the most anticipated titles on the PSP. Why? It was an absolutely brilliant game. Some would argue that its Game Boy Advance successor (<em>Tactics Advance</em>), and the psuedo console succssor, <em>Final Fantasy XII</em>, failed to reach the glory of the original PSone title.<br />
<br />
Therefore, every morsel of information that comes out for this game is cherished by gamers at large. The <a href="http://www.square-enix.co.jp/fft/">official Japanese website</a> of the game has recently updated with new screenshots, and better yet... gorgeous, rotating 3D models of the game's characters. You'll have to see it to fully appreciate the hand-drawn quality. Hopefully, we'll see more of this game soon (I'm wishing for a quick release, Square!).<br />
<br />
(P.S. Make sure you have the <a href="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&amp;promoid=BIOW">latest version of Flash</a>. The site doesn't tell you if you're running an old version.)<br />

An enthusiastic reader, <a href="http://www.palart.net/2006/12/17/final-fantasy-tactics-the-lion-war-with-ad-hoc/">Pal</a>, sent us a great tip about the upcoming <em>Final Fantasy Tactics</em> for PSP. Not only will the game come with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/16/jump-festa-final-fantasy-on-display/">new cutscenes</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/13/final-fantasy-tactics-reborn-on-the-psp/">new job classes</a>, the game will also feature ad-hoc multiplayer. Many <em>Tactics</em> fans have been waiting patiently for a way to the game with others, and it appears that the PSP version will deliver. If Square-Enix considered Infrastructure multiplayer, I'd imagine that our pal might simply implode.<br />
<br />
Finally, if you weren't convinced of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/01/final-fantasy-vii-crisis-core-trailer/"><em>Crisis Core</em>'s awesomeness</a>, read <a href="http://psp.ign.com/articles/751/751423p1.html">IGN's latest preview</a>:<br />
"From a strictly gameplay standpoint, <em>Crisis Core</em> seems solid, with a fast pace and the potential for a good mix of action and menu-based battle systems ... <strong><em>Crisis Core</em> looks better than most PS2 games out there</strong>. During cinematic scenes, the character models are detailed and fully animated. Battles contain screens with double digit enemies, and giant bosses. All that, and full voice, <strong>without any pauses for loading</strong>! ... Personally, I think all the "Compilation of <em>Final Fantasy VII</em>" products released so far have been second rate. But <em>Crisis Core</em> looks so good that it could turn things around on its own."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/18/more-ff-awesomeness-tactics-features-multiplayer-and-ffvii-kicks/">More FF awesomeness: Tactics features multiplayer &amp; FFVII kicks butt</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Dec 2006 17:30:00 EST. <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3155957">1UP</a> gets mad props for getting footage from Japan's Jump Festa, where the hotly anticipated <em>Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core</em> and <em>Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War</em> are on display. A trailer showcasing the game's beautiful new cutscenes is on display, and can be seen after the cut.<br />
<br />
<em>Crisis Core</em>'s demo is available for attendees to play, and it seems like <em>FF</em> fans need not worry about the game's quality: "Combat in <em>Crisis Core</em> takes place in pseudo-real-time, not unlike <em>Final Fantasy XII</em>, though there's only one playable character (<em>FFVII</em> fan favorite Zack), and the action is a lot more active. During battle you find yourself constantly mashing the attack button to pull off combos or backstab enemies for extra damage, but you can dodge and defend as well, and you can use the L and R buttons to cycle through your items and magic attacks... With the stunning visuals and interesting battle system we saw today, it seems to be headed in the right direction."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/16/jump-festa-final-fantasy-on-display/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jump Festa: Final Fantasy on display</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/12/16/jump-festa-final-fantasy-on-display/">Jump Festa: Final Fantasy on display</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 16 Dec 2006 16:35:00 EST.
