The free-to-play iOS Capcom Arcade app continues to improve in value. A new update adds two games to the virtual selection of classics: Final Fight and 1943. The app has also been given an attendant title change: "Capcom Arcade" is now "Final Fight@Capcom Arcade." In addition, the controls for the two Street Fighter games in the app have been tweaked.

The app offers three "free play" tokens each day, for use on the two new games or the existing lineup of 1942, Commando, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Street Fighter II and Street Fighter II Champion Edition. You can "buy" each "arcade machine" permanently for 99 cents.
iOS Capcom Arcade app updates with free Final Fight, 1943 originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 07:00:00 EST. When he's not busy being the mayor of Metro City, Mike Haggar is appearing on Capcom employees' computer monitors during Halloween parties. Spotted above, Haggar is seen in what appears to be the Servbot stage of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 behind a costumed Capcom employee. Shoryuken also speculates his elbow is what appears to be cut off in the right side of the image.

While Haggar appeared way back when in Saturday Night Slam Masters, the former wrestler turned city mayor has yet to make an appearance in a fighting game proper. Could Marvel vs. Capcom 3 be it? It's certainly possible -- Capcom has since removed the photo from its Halloween party gallery.
Rumor: Mike Haggar in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 31 Oct 2010 17:30:00 EST. The publisher apologized to fans -- not for the restriction, but for not making the fact that there was a restriction clearer.

"Typically, the notification for a required PlayStation Network connection appears in the full game description when a game is downloaded from the PlayStation Store," the statement reads. "Unfortunately when populating this content this detail was overlooked and wasn't included in the versions of the game that released in North America and Asia."

Capcom has "acted quickly with Sony Computer Entertainment America" and ensures fans that it will be addressed. Before you start pooling your money with your PSN-sharing friends, we have our own warning: given the context of the statement, the promised fix is more likely to be the addition of a warning than the removal of the DRM. You can read the full statement after the break.
Continue reading Capcom apologizes for unannounced Final Fight: Double Impact DRM

Capcom apologizes for unannounced Final Fight: Double Impact DRM originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Apr 2010 17:40:00 EST. IGN forum user "Nacthenud" has posted an alleged response he received from a Capcom admin about the issue.

"Yes, there is DRM," the admin confirmed. "This was employed to combat the rampant 'PSN Sharing' that has been going on over the last year. We're sorry that your family cannot play the game on their individual accounts (same console). This is a limitation of the Sony network." The message goes on to say that Double Impact's DRM is a trial to "evaluate impact" of the PSN sign-in requirement, which seeks to limit access to the game to the PSN account that purchased the title.

Since the statement was posted, Nacthenud and others have discovered an apparent workaround. They suggest it's possible to play the game using secondary accounts on a PS3, provided the account used to purchase Double Impact is set to automatically sign into PSN when the console turns on. But that's ancillary to the intended purpose of the DRM: to prevent users on other PS3s from playing the game (and thereby rendering the game unplayable offline).

We've asked Capcom for verification, but have yet to hear back.

The game will not run unless the user is signed into an online PSN account. If you try to load up Double Impact while not signed in, you'll just get a curt "Sign into PlayStation Network. (80029516)" message on the screen. (The Xbox 360 version launches without issue, even when not signed into Xbox Live.)

While it may not be a big deal to most of us who are signed into PSN whenever we use our PS3s, it does make us wonder why Capcom or Sony don't allow people to play the game, even in single-player or local multiplayer, without an internet connection. We've contacted both parties about the issue. Anyone else appreciating the irony of having to be connected to the internet to play games made before most of us knew what an internet was?
Final Fight: Double Impact is the highlight of this week's PSN update -- especially if you're a Magic Sword fanboy. Those interested in test drives can take the Skate 3 demo out for an ollie, while the latest Sam & Max adventure game is also available to try.

As has become normal, there's an impressive new helping of comics for the PSP. This latest update adds the first eight issues of Kick-Ass, which has, as they stamp on the covers of those rectangular objects known as books nowadays, become "a major motion picture."

Check out the full update after the break.
For ten measly dollars, you get two of Capcom's best classic arcade games, Final Fight and Magic Sword, spiced with a bunch of slick visual filters, remixed soundtracks and geek-out-worthy unlockables. Did we mention drop-in online co-op, too?

Okay, so maybe you're on the fence. Watch the video if you need some encouragement. Download the trial version of the game if you must, but, seriously, there's no reason to deprive yourself of this much fun.
Final Fight: Double Impact hits download services this week, with the side-scrolling fantasy action game Magic Sword as the delicious second course in the Final Fight meal. Lest you be satisfied with those two games, Capcom design director Kraig Kujawa revealed two more games that were considered for the pack: the 1987 action game Black Tiger, and the horizontal shmup Forgotten Worlds.

In the tweet, Kujawa said these two were the "other games ... considered for Final Fight: Double Impact second billing," suggesting that the plan was for two total games all along. That means that we don't have to cry as we imagine the four-game pack Double Impact that almost was, and instead we can concentrate on our delight with Magic Sword.
Final Fight: Double Impact almost included Black Tiger or Forgotten Worlds originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 12 Apr 2010 13:00:00 EST.
Packed within that powerup distribution vessel is an arcade token with images from both Final Fight and Magic Sword, a copy of the soundtrack on cassette(!), "Ninja vs. Bear" and "Haggar for Mayor" badges, a reversible t-shirt with one of the two games on each side, and a can of pink hair color spray, in honor of Final Fight's Poison.

Non-press members will have an opportunity to get one of these from Capcom's online store, but you'll have to be vigilant! Microsoft has unfurled some of its plans for Xbox Live downloadable content for April, including new additions to Games on Demand and Deals of the Week, as well as the April 14th release of Final Fight: Double Impact.
Capcom just let us know that the magical combination of classic brawling and online play will be available on Xbox Live April 14, and on the PlayStation Store April 15.

In case you haven't been keeping up with old game news, Double Impact features optional graphical filters, remixed soundtracks, and, most importantly, drop-in co-op. Capcom doesn't explicitly mention this, but each purchase also contributes to the Mike Haggar mayoral campaign fund.

Gallery: Final Fight: Double Impact

Finally: Final Fight Double Impact arrives April 14 and 15 originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 12:35:00 EST. There are plenty of things to love about Final Fight. There's the ridiculously diesel, shark pile-driving wrestler-turned-mayor the story is centered around, Mike Haggar, and the fact that citizens in Metro City like to store whole turkey dinners inside of dirty oil drums. And, after 20-plus years, somebody's finally getting around to making a movie.

You'll find the initial teaser trailer for the fan-made project after the break which, while a very tasteful take on the series, has made one small error: Jesse Ventura is the only man on the planet who can play Mike Haggar. We're sure this is paying more than his current gig, so get in touch!
Click to vote Haggar ... and enter the gallery
Capcom has revealed even more Final Fight fanservice in Super Street Fighter IV, in the form of a new Metro City stage. Yes, that's Street Fighter III's Hugo in the background. Yes, that's a giant statue of Mayor Mike Haggar holding the city's name aloft. Yes, that is awesome.

Other new stages introduced include a busy Korean street, a neighborhood in Dhalsim's native India, a wrecked Shadaloo headquarters, and a watering hole somewhere in Africa occupied by terrifyingly enormous hippos. One thing the stages have in common: a million things going on in the background, while you try to get the joystick motion right for Zangief's spinning piledriver.
Click to "super" size
Cody isn't the brightest of the Street Fighter bunch, is it? The Final Fight star made his first appearance in the series in Street Fighter Alpha 3, having just escaped from prison. Apparently, he hasn't figured out how to remove his manacles (nor has he changed out of his incriminating garb) in the several years between the events of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter II, nor in the time between Street Fighter II and Super Street Fighter IV, which is where these new screens originate.
Sure, the other characters are all wearing the same outfits from years ago (except for Chun Li), but those can all be reasonably believed to be choices. Maybe Dan wears other stuff when he's off the job, and changes into his pink gi. But it's extremely hard to believe that Cody would voluntarily don his prison uniform and shackles again, which suggests that he can't remove them. This is also the guy who picks up a rock and throws it as one of his special moves.
Capcom has announced that the Final Fight / Magic Sword combo pack known as Final Fight: Double Impact will hit Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network in April 2010. In addition to the previously announced graphical filters, viewing modes and drop-in / drop-out co-op, Capcom has also revealed that both games will feature a selectable soundtrack from the people responsible for the excellent Bionic Commando: Rearmed soundtrack. Furthermore, the games will utilize GGPO, a networking library used to essentially eliminate lag during online play.

Oh, it also includes both Final Fight and Magic Sword.
Capcom has announced Final Fight Double Impact for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, featuring not just the arcade version of the Metro City brawler, but Magic Sword as well!

Final Fight Double Impact, as the collection is titled, will feature optional graphical filters and a visual mode that makes the games appear as if they're being played on an arcade machine. Most importantly, both games will have drop-in online co-op. Capcom hasn't priced the collection yet, but there's no way the company will charge more than we've already put into Magic Sword machines over the years.
Oh, my car! The appearance of Adon, along with Cody's striped prison getup, means that the fighters are appearing in their Street Fighter Alpha incarnations. Well, those clues and the heading on the article saying that the three characters are from that series.

A sidebar in Famitsu shows Guy parrying a kunai, suggesting that Street Fighter III favorite Ibuki might be joining the fight as well. You remember Street Fighter III, right?

This week's offering punches the Virtual Console silly, continuing the adventures of everyone's favorite wrestler-turned-politician (What, you think Jesse Ventura deserves that honor? Pfft ...) in Final Fight 2. It doesn't innovate or really add much more to the original experience -- well, except for more dudes to punch. There are plenty more thugs to beat on, that's for sure. But what it lacks in innovation, it makes up for in dudes to punch. Seriously, do you wanna punch dudes? Because that's totally what's going on here.

Usually, we can't fit all of the titles available for download across Nintendo platforms into the headline, but this week's NintendoWare Weekly post is an exception. Those anxious to get their hands on some digital wares will only find three games available this week -- so in the interest of keeping this train a-chuggin' along, let's get to the details.
Continue reading NintendoWare Weekly: Pinball, Gravitronix, Final Fight 2

NintendoWare Weekly: Pinball, Gravitronix, Final Fight 2 originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 12:00:00 EST.
As the picture above demonstrates, Camelot's We Love Golf will allow us to play a round as Apollo Justice, while other characters confirmed for the title include Chun Li (Street Fighter), Jill Valentine (Resident Evil 3), and Arthur (Ghouls 'n Ghosts). We can't comprehend how anybody would not want to play golf as Apollo Justice, but if you're not a fan of the bequiffed lawyer (weirdo), then Capcom has set up a poll on its official blog to ask readers which characters they'd most like to see in the U.S and European versions of the game.

You can vote for one female and one male character, with Cammy (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rouge (Power Stone), Roll Caskett (Mega Man Legends), and Ashley Graham (Resident Evil) making up the female category.

Meanwhile, the male list consists of Frank West (Dead Rising), Balrog (Street Fighter), Guy (Final Fight), Ken (Street Fighter), Dhalsim (Street Fighter), and Captain Commando (from, uh, Captain Commando). And yes, we know of at least one person who will be sorely disappointed with the lack of Zangief in that selection.
Capcom lets you choose who loves Golf originally appeared on Joystiq on Sun, 10 Feb 2008 18:00:00 EST. These codes aren't exactly new, but oldness is the essence of the Virtual Console! We're bringing back the classic codes every week on The VC Advantage.

Much like every other brawler that followed, Final Fight's bosses and large enemies (especially the Andore family) have total priority over all your player attacks. You can be mid-combo and those bastards just stop you cold and take you down -- which kind of defeats the purpose of combos. Luckily for expert Final Fight players (by which we mean people who are willing to exploit an unintentional glitch), Capcom provided the most boring of the three protagonists, Cody, with a failsafe, game-breaking advantage. Not that they meant to do so. Everyone probably already knows about this, but that's no reason not to celebrate it!
Continue reading The VC Advantage: Continuous Fight

The VC Advantage: Continuous Fight originally appeared on Joystiq on Wed, 23 Jan 2008 20:00:00 EST. It would take something really special to outshine Mike Haggar, but Poison does. Even though she was just one of the basic grunt enemies, her hypersexualized appearance and random flipping made her memorable among the countless Axls, Dugs, and Two.P's.

Later, when we learned about Capcom's biographical information about the character, she became even more memorable. REFLECT's Masauzi Yoshizawa, a more active Poison fan, sculpted an amazing figurine of the character last year and made it available as a garage kit. Now it's being released as a preassembled, prepainted model more suitable for our useless hands, gnarled from years of unending punch combos. NCSX is selling this 1/6 scale figure for $68. OH, MY WALLET.

Oh, and of course we couldn't use the word "Poison" in a post without embedding a certain something after the break.
Continue reading That girl is Poison

That girl is Poison originally appeared on Joystiq on Mon, 17 Dec 2007 23:46:00 EST. When we saw this desktop wallpaper of Final Fight's most shirtless protagonist, Mike Haggar, piledriving a shark, we knew we had to post it. We also set it as our own wallpaper, then resized it and set it as our phone wallpaper. We've currently got an order pending at the printer's for our Haggar-piledriving-a-shark flag, which we plan to display proudly outside our home, as a sign of allegiance. To Haggar piledriving a shark.

We think we've found the original sketch by Junkboy, but we don't know who did the awesome coloring. Our Google search, however, did yield another person's celebration of Haggar piledriving a shark: a plan to decorate an Xbox 360 joystick with the image.
OH!
