As <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/08/report-g4-to-become-the-esquire-channel/">reported</a> late last year, Owner NBCUniversal will rebrand the formerly gaming-and-Cops-rerun channel as The Esquire Network, named after the magazine.<br /><br />The Esquire Network is described as "an upscale Bravo for men," as NBC cable executive Bonnie Hammer imagines it. It will attempt to appeal to sophisticated audiences with shows like "Knife Fight," about chefs competing with each other, and "The Getaway," a celebrity travel show.<br /><br />Nowhere among the list of programming is anything about video games. "Realistically, guys who are into gaming are not necessarily watching television," Hammer told the New York Times. Maybe <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/netflix">not on cable networks</a>, anyway.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/11/g4-becomes-esquire-network-in-april/">G4 becomes Esquire Network in April</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2013 09:30:00 EST. The deal has been finalized between G4-owner <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBCUniversal">NBCUniversal</a> and Esquire-owner <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearst_Corporation">Hearst Corporation</a>, according to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, and production of new content aimed at a "metrosexual" male audience is said to be underway.<br /><br />While the channel's new content will feature some gaming-oriented material, subjects such as fashion, cooking and travel will also be covered in an attempt to capture a more sophisticated male audience. As X-Play and Attack of the Show have already been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/g4-ending-x-play-attack-of-the-show/">cancelled</a>, we doubt any of G4's late gaming content will be resurrected in the channel's new form. We are, however, looking forward to finding out how to recreate Nathan Drake's designer look for an off-the-rack price.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/12/08/report-g4-to-become-the-esquire-channel/">Report: G4 to become the Esquire channel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 08 Dec 2012 22:30:00 EST. X-Play had been on the air since April 28, 2003, back when the network was called TechTV. G4 had recently seen the departure of long time hosts Kevin Pereira from Attack of the Show and Adam Sessler from X-Play.<br /><br />That's it for gaming content on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/g4">G4</a>, making Geoff Keighley's <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/shows/gt-tv">GameTrailers TV</a> on Spike the only prominent video game related show left on American air... <em>er</em>, cable.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Joystiq has been informed by a source close to the matter that G4TV.com's gaming editorial staff at "The Feed" is being laid off, with their final week taking place before Thanksgiving. We currently don't have an official count on how many jobs have been lost. At least five editors have been laid off and a skeleton crew may remain on staff past the pre-Thanksgiving layoffs.<br /><br />A representative for G4 had "no comment" regarding further layoffs. Asked if the network had intentions of continuing with what we described as <em>any gaming content</em>, we were referred to the attached press release, which avoids the subject.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/g4-ending-x-play-attack-of-the-show/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>G4 ending X-Play, Attack of the Show [update]</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/g4-ending-x-play-attack-of-the-show/">G4 ending X-Play, Attack of the Show [update]</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 14:15:00 EST. Neal Tiles, formerly <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/g4/about/management/NealTiles.html">president of the G4 television network</a>, stepped down earlier today, and parent company NBCUniversal has <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2012/01/former-nbc-marketing-chief-adam-stotsky-named-general-manager-of-g4/">announced that Adam Stotsky</a> will take his place. Stotsky is a former president of marketing at NBC, but now will head up the entire G4 network, overseeing everything from programming to publicity and digital operations.<br />
<br />
Stotsky is the first big appointment by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnie_Hammer">recently appointed NBCU president Bonnie Hammer</a>, who picked up oversight of G4 and E! last year when Comcast merged with NBC Universal. We don't know exactly what Stotsky plans to put on the schedule at G4 going forward, but if he's taking any cues from his predecessor, it's probably lots <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/schedule/index.html?datetime=01/06/2012%2007:00%20AM">more Cheaters and Cops.</a><br />
<br />

The 14th annual Interactive Achievement Awards (i.e., the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/DICE-2010/">DICE</a> awards) will be broadcast on G4 this year. The show, hosted again by funnyman <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/jay-mohr">Jay Mohr</a>, will air in a one-hour edited format across the television waves on Saturday, February 12 at 4PM ET/PT. However, the show will also be streamed live, and unedited, on the interwebs at G4tv.com/DICE, beginning at 7:30 PT (10:30 ET) on Thursday, February 10.<br />

Television network G4 announced today that it has signed a three-year deal to be the official broadcaster of E3. The partnership between the network and the mega-convention's organizer, the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ESA/">ESA</a>, extends a relationship the two have renewed annually for the past several years, relieving G4 of having to ask the awkward "wanna go steady (again)" question for a time.<br />
<br />
The Comcast-owned network's multi-year agreement gives G4 access to "uninterrupted press conference coverage" and all the other flare you'd expect from the moving-picture medium. All you DirecTV subscribers, of course, will have to head over to a friend's house to watch the coverage, since the satellite TV company recently <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/01/directv-drops-g4/">dropped the network</a> -- or you could just join on us these little ol' internets for our own extensive E3 coverage with <em>written</em> words.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/11/29/g4-signs-three-year-exclusive-deal-for-e3-tv-rights/">G4 signs three-year exclusive deal for E3 TV rights</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 29 Nov 2010 17:30:00 EST. The satellite provider dropped the Comcast-owned (and <em>Cops</em>-heavy!) G4 channel last week and today confirmed that it's not interested in reconsidering that decision. "At this time we are no longer negotiating and we have no plans to put G4 back up," a DirecTV rep <a href="http://news-briefs.ew.com/2010/11/01/directv-drops-g4/">told EW.com</a>. "But why?" you might be asking yourself out loud. Well, the rep has some choice words for the sometimes-video game-related channel. "Since G4 is among the lowest rated networks based on the latest Nielsen data, we decided that it made sense to focus on preserving programming that is more relevant to our larger customer base." Ouch!<br />
<br />
For its part, G4 said in a statement, "We have been trying to engage DirecTV in fair and reasonable discussions to continue to carry G4. G4 offered DirecTV the same basic deal we have had for the past three years. However they still plan to drop the network and deny G4 fans the only network that focuses on the popular gaming lifestyle." This might be a little early, but we've already put a bid in on Sessler's soapbox on America's Auction Network ... which is actually a real channel that DirecTV still carries. <br />

<div style="text-align: left;">G4 recently spoke with <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/warren-spector">Warren Spector</a> about Tomorrow City, a newly-revealed level in the upcoming <em><a href="http://joystiq.com/game/disney-epic-mickey">Epic Mickey</a></em>, and you can watch the interview after the break. Tomorrow City is based on Disneyland's Tomorrowland and features landmarks including the Moonliner Rocket, the Carousel of Progress and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PeopleMover">the PeopleMover</a>. <br />
<br />
The video also shows off more 2D gameplay, plus some solid platforming challenges. "The structure of the game is very <em>Zelda</em>-like," says Spector, "but once you get into those action spaces, we really wanted more platforming action." <em>Epic Mickey</em> will be out on Wii on November 30.</div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/14/disney-epic-mickeys-tomorrow-city-revealed/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Disney Epic Mickey's 'Tomorrow City' revealed</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/14/disney-epic-mickeys-tomorrow-city-revealed/">Disney Epic Mickey's 'Tomorrow City' revealed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Oct 2010 01:00:00 EST. Real or not, this <em>God of War</em> music video is absolutely hilarious. Set to Robin Thicke's "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s2_QLjF2Vs">Sex Therapy</a>," the music video made its premiere on <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/703220/X-Plays-God-of-War-Music-Video-Premieres-Tonight-at-630-PM.html">X-Play</a> tonight. We've learned two things from watching this clip: 1) Kratos' character design looks ridiculous outside of the game's context and 2) Kratos should never, ever show his "softer" side.<br />
<br />
Too bad this video isn't going to be used by Sony for promotional purposes. As revealed by this <a href="http://g4tv.com/videos/44737/Behind-the-Scenes-on-X-Plays-God-of-War-Music-Video/">behind-the-scenes video</a>, it's a rather elaborate experiment conducted by G4. It is quite possibly the greatest thing the network has ever done, and deserves a look after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/15/kratos-offers-some-sex-therapy-in-x-play-music-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kratos offers some 'Sex Therapy' in X-Play music video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/15/kratos-offers-some-sex-therapy-in-x-play-music-video/">Kratos offers some 'Sex Therapy' in X-Play music video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Mar 2010 22:00:00 EST. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/borderlands"><em>Borderlands</em></a> crew at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gearbox">Gearbox Software</a> is making the post-mortem interview rounds, and this time Aaron Thibault, Stephen Palmer and Matthew Armstrong <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/702034/Reaction-Time-Gearbox-Software-Reflects-On-Borderlands-And-Whats-Next.html">stopped to chat with G4</a>. The interview has some excellent insight into the making of the game: The team originally was finishing up the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo"><em>Halo</em></a> PC port when they realized that Bungie had dynamically coded their guns, and wondered what you could do if you dynamically <em>created</em> guns from that code. "<em>Halo</em> meets <em>Diablo</em>" was the answer, and that was Gearbox's premise from the beginning.<br />
<br />
They also talk about the famous art style change, and say that the current animated look actually helped players get into the game -- they could "make a certain leap of faith into an understanding that the crazier and wackier and more fun things can exist in this world." And they say that for future installments, they are taking player feedback into account: Both a mini-map and more levels are two things that they didn't quite expect such a call for, so it's a safe bet that we'll see those features in any <em>future installments</em> of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/03/take-two-borderlands-franchise-important-and-long-term/">the "important" franchise</a>. Speaking to <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/698157/The-Real-Reason-You-Cant-Have-More-Than-100-Xbox-Live-Friends----Halo-2.html#readmore">G4</a> late last week, a "high-level Microsoft source" said that the real reason Microsoft hasn't upped the friends list limit on 360 thus far has more to do with people still playing <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/halo-2"><em>Halo 2</em></a> on Xbox than limitations of its current console. Reportedly, the source says that Microsoft is still undecided on when to finally pull the plug and add a feature gamers have been requesting for a long time now.<br /><br />The company has made it clear in the past that it would like to implement the feature, even going so far as to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/09/ces-2009-microsoft-wants-to-increase-the-100-friend-live-limit/">explain to us at CES 2009</a> that "original Xbox games were coded to be limited to 100 friends and that limit was brought into the current generation." According to G4's source, the shuttering of <em>Halo 2</em>'s online could come after <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/01/halo-3-odst-drops-down-september-22/"><em>Halo 3: ODST</em></a> drops this September, giving Microsoft two <em>Halo</em> titles to offer on the Xbox 360. The source also contends that the real decision to keep <em>Halo 2</em> online is in the hands of gamers. What say you, gamers?!<br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/want-a-bigger-friends-list-stop-playing-halo-2-online/#poll33098">View Poll</a></p><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/59918">Shacknews</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/want-a-bigger-friends-list-stop-playing-halo-2-online/">Want a bigger friends list? <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/half-life-2"><em>Half-Life 2</em></a> developer Valve Software is remaining unsurprisingly cagey in conversations about <em>Half-Life 2: Episode 3</em>. Speaking with <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696431/Opening-The-Valve-The-Gabe-Newell-Interview.html">G4</a>, the company's managing director Gabe Newell said, "There are very good reasons why we're not talking about <em>Episode 3</em>, which I can't talk about yet." <br /><br />When pressed on the possibility of hearing more about the game by the end of 2009, Newell downright dismisses the question and, instead, chooses to speak about the "rhythm" the team working on <em>Episode 3</em> is developing. Does that mean Valve's working on the long-awaited rhythm/music component to <em>Half-Life 2</em>? We can only dream.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/06/11/gabe-newell-there-are-very-good-reasons-for-lack-of-half-life/">Big Download</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/12/valves-gabe-newell-still-not-talking-episode-3/">Valve's Gabe Newell still not talking Episode 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 12 Jun 2009 09:45:00 EST. While <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/07/gleaning-potential-controversy-from-konamis-six-days-in-falluj/">controversies</a> have mounted in the wake of Konami's <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Six-Days-in-Fallujah/">Six Days in Fallujah</a></em> reveal, a group of Iraq war veterans told <a href="http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/694612/Soldiers-Respond-To-Six-Days-in-Fallujah-Controversy.html">G4TV</a> they have "no problem" with the game.<br /> <br /> "I believe that this could be a good thing for both combat veterans and for the war in general," triple-tour vet., Sgt. Casey J. McGeorge said. The group points out that a realistic game set in the current Iraq conflict may help civilians understand the situation. Army Sgt. Kevin Smith notes that an Iraq-based video game could "hopefully bolster support" for troops and encourage more empathy for veterans by showing civilians "what the war is really like [for soldiers]."<br /><br />Peace groups, veterans and families called for <em>Six Days</em> to be <a href="http://www.gamepolitics.com/2009/04/07/outrage-over-konami039s-quotsix-days-fallujahquot">banned</a> following its announcement, but Marine Corps. Gunnery Sergeant John Mundy reminds everyone that those who are against the development of such a game "can spend their money elsewhere."<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/six-days-in-fallujah/">Six Days in Fallujah</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/six-days-in-fallujah/#1489780"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sdif_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/six-days-in-fallujah/#1489779"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sdif_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/six-days-in-fallujah/#1489778"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sdif_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/six-days-in-fallujah/#1474287"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sdif_032509_b5(2)_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/six-days-in-fallujah/#1474284"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/04/sixdaysinfallujah_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/04/10/some-iraq-war-vets-have-no-problems-with-six-days-in-fallujah/">BigDownload</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/10/soldiers-discuss-six-days-in-fallujah-controversy/">Soldiers discuss Six Days in Fallujah controversy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 10 Apr 2009 21:33:00 EST. Sure, it can't compare with the excitement of our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/25/gdc09-joystiq-live-at-the-igf-and-gdca-awards/">liveblog</a> of the event, but we figured you might like to know that G4 will be <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=23150">broadcasting highlights</a> from the Game Developers Choice Awards tonight at 6:30 Pacific / Eastern time with a rebroadcast at 8:00. Hmmm, what is this a <a href="http://www.gotcast.com/casting-calls/G4-TV-Female-Correspondent/53806">casting call</a> for:<br /><br />CASTING START: 4/2/2009 12:00:00 AM <br />CASTING END: 4/7/2009 11:59:59 PM <br />CASTING LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA <br />GENDER REQUIREMENTS: Female Only <br />AGE REQUIREMENTS: 18 and up <br />ONLY OPEN TO MEMBERS IN: California <br /><br />No, perv. How could you even think that? It's actually <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/g4">G4</a>'s cattle call for a new "G4 TV Female Correspondent." Although this post could go down a really dark path, let's desperately attempt to take the high road. Here's an idea, G4: Why not get a female game journo that gamers and the game press actually respect -- call us, we know a few. Heck, we respect commenters like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/profile/1374592/">Saria the Cat</a> more than some of the double-x chromosomes we've seen on G4's airwaves.<br /><br />Oh, wait ... G4 wants someone "self-deprecating ... attractive and relatable to G4's audience." We already feel bad for the girl that gets this job.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.destructoid.com/g4tv-needs-another-slut-127275.phtml">Destructoid</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/03/g4-looking-for-self-deprecating-female-correspondent/">G4 looking for 'self-deprecating' female correspondent</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Apr 2009 14:23:00 EST. Are you bummed that you'll be stuck at home over the next week, far away from the <em>action</em> and <em>excitement</em> of the 2009 Game Developers Conference? Fret not -- we've got your back as far as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gdc-2009">GDC-related news</a> is concerned, but if you want to see footage of the glitzy, glamorous <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/10/game-developers-choice-awards-finalists-announced/">Game Developers Choice Awards</a> (which will take place this Wednesday), you can fulfill your peculiar desire by flipping your teevee-box to G4, where <a href="http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=22847">X-Play will be airing the ceremony</a> in its entirety.<br /><br />Bizarrely, they'll be <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/game-developers-choice-awards-on-g4-tonight/">broadcasting the event</a> on April 10, more than two weeks after the awards will be handed out. The program might be a bit too tardy to be worth watching, but since we'll have told you all the winners by that point, you could easily score a few bucks from some unaware acquaintances in a GDCA prediction pool.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/22/g4-belatedly-broadcasting-2009-game-developers-choice-awards/">G4 belatedly broadcasting 2009 Game Developers Choice Awards</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 22 Mar 2009 16:45:00 EST. G4's <em>X-Play</em> and <em>Attack of the Show</em> have been hit by cuts and layoffs. Following up on information given to us by reliable sources -- that the network's two flagship shows have been hit by reductions -- a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/g4">G4</a> representative sent us a statement confirming much of the information.<br /><br /><em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/x-play">X-Play</a></em>, which upped its production schedule <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/02/x-play-extends-to-one-hour-in-december/">back in December,</a> will now be reduced to three original episodes per week. <em>Attack of the Show</em> will now air four original episodes per week. Both shows will scale down starting March 2. Although G4 would not comment on "personnel matters," it could confirm that fewer episodes did result in a staff reduction. Cost saving will go into "more original programming in 2009." The network was clear to state that "this is not a budget cut" and G4 "remains dedicated to these core franchises." As always, if you were affected by the layoffs or have more information, please feel free to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/contact/tips/">contact us</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/17/g4-makes-staff-and-schedule-cuts-to-x-play-attack-of-the-show/">G4 makes staff and schedule cuts to X-Play, Attack of the Show</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Feb 2009 19:20:00 EST. So what happens when G4 gets two guys to break sh*t? Well, you get an interesting experiment to see which console is the most durable. The PS3, 360 and Wii are all put to the test in an incredible test of physical endurance. Which one comes out on top? Thankfully, the PS3. Considering the machine costs at least $400, we're glad to see it able to take such abuse. In last place? Well, just watch the video.<br /><br />Check out the video, after the cut.<br /><br />[Thanks, Zack!]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/ps3-is-the-strongest-console-around-and-were-not-talking-about/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PS3 is the strongest console around (and we're not talking about tech)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/11/14/ps3-is-the-strongest-console-around-and-were-not-talking-about/">PS3 is the strongest console around (and we're not talking about tech)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 10:20:00 EST. There is speculation popping up from several different places this evening that E3 2009 will be held in June at the Los Angeles Convention Center and be open to the public. G4 ran a piece this evening on X-Play (embedded after the break) that the event will be held June 2-4. N'Gai Croal of Newsweek received similar information from a source, but also adds that the event will be open to the public on June 5-6 and the event will be capped at 40,000 attendees. Both G4 and Croal claim an official E3 2009 announcement will be made tomorrow. Just to be very clear, at this point all this information is merely rumor and speculation from sources. The ESA has not made an official statement.<br /><br />We contacted the ESA a few hours ago when we were only aware of the G4 piece running this evening and were informed: "There will be a 2009 E3 and we will announce the details at the appropriate time." At the time the ESA said it had no idea what information G4 was planning to reveal and hadn't commented on the piece.<br /><br />We've contacted the ESA for any official statement and will update as soon as we receive it.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Croal has amended his piece to say that the E3 weekend dates, set aside for the public, "<span class="BlogPostWords">may have been incorrect<em>."</em></span><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2008/10/20/scoop-expanded-e3-2009-take-place-first-week-of-june.aspx">Source</a> - E3 2009 To Take Place During First Week of June, Be Open To the Public, Attendance Capped At 40,000 [Newsweek]<br /><a href="http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/blog/post/690276/E3_Returning_To_Past_Size_And_Spectacle_In_2009.html">Source</a> - E3 Returning To Past Size And Spectacle In 2009 [G4]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/rumor-e3-2009-open-to-the-public-happening-in-june/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumor: E3 2009 open to the public, happening in June</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/20/rumor-e3-2009-open-to-the-public-happening-in-june/">Rumor: E3 2009 open to the public, happening in June</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 20 Oct 2008 21:05:00 EST. During an interview with G4, Nintendo's ass-kicking, name-taking pres Reggie Fils-Aime talked about all things Nintendo. Most of the interview focuses on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">DSi-related stuff</a>, but he does take a second to discuss what the <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mario">Mario</a> </em>and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zelda"><em>Zelda</em></a> teams are up to. What are they up to? More <em>Zelda </em>and <em>Mario</em>, of course! And while <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/15/e308-iwata-mario-and-zelda-teams-hard-at-work/">we already knew this</a> back at E3, it's nice to hear it reiterated.<br /><br />Head past the break for the 10 minute-long video interview with Reggie.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-explains-mario-and-zelda-teams-are-working-on-new-games/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Reggie explains Mario and Zelda teams are working on new games</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/03/reggie-explains-mario-and-zelda-teams-are-working-on-new-games/">Reggie explains Mario and Zelda teams are working on new games</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 03 Oct 2008 18:12:00 EST. You just <em>knew </em>that Monday's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/rumor-the-five-hour-xbox-360-relaunch-sept-25/">rumor of a televised "relaunch" for Xbox 360</a> planned for September 25 on G4 was too good to be true. Although, with everything its <em>sheer madness</em> (hey, we called it!) promised - the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/new-xbox-experience">New Xbox Experience</a> release; new, free Xbox Classics; huge exclusives revealed - it was one rumor everyone (well, make that "everyone with an Xbox 360 or lack of console favoritism") very much wanted to become fact. Alas, not this time. <br /><br />G4 has flat-out denied plans for any such event - let alone one lasting <em>five hours </em>- with X-Play host Adam Sessler making the rumor (and internet rumors in general) the subject of his latest "Sessler's Soapbox" rant, which you can watch after the break. That is, if your will to continue hasn't been utterly crushed by the busting of this nigh-legendary hoax.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/09/11/new-xbox-experience-relaunch-was-lies-all-lies/">X3F</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/rumorong-g4-says-massive-360-relaunch-event-not-happening/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rumorong: G4 says massive 360 'relaunch' event not happening</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/rumorong-g4-says-massive-360-relaunch-event-not-happening/">Rumorong: G4 says massive 360 'relaunch' event not happening</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Sep 2008 15:00:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">Earlier in the week, rumor spread quickly across the internets regarding Microsoft's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/rumor-ms-planning-five-hour-long-new-xbox-experience-media-blit/">supposed plans</a> to hold a five hour long <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fall-update">New Xbox Experience</a> relaunch event aired on G4 TV. An event that would celebrate the rollout of the Fall update, usher in free games, new game announcements and excitement galore. Well, that was total balderdash. Fake, fake, fake!<br /></div>
</div>
<br />G4's own Adam Sessler <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/thepile/videos/28482/Sesslers_Soapbox_Lies_Damn_Lies_and_Internet_Rumors.html">confirmed</a> the fact that the network and Microsoft have no plans for an event later this month, going as far as to dedicate his latest episode of "Sessler's Soapbox" to the topic specifically (vid after the break). Sessler not only denies the baseless (but totally awesome) rumor, but goes on to discuss politics and how irresponsible the media can be by not investigating or looking for answers. Damn the media. We always disliked those media folks.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/new-xbox-experience-relaunch-was-lies-all-lies/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>New Xbox Experience relaunch was lies, all lies</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/11/new-xbox-experience-relaunch-was-lies-all-lies/">New Xbox Experience relaunch was lies, all lies</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 11 Sep 2008 11:00:00 EST. We don't have to tell you how excited we are for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/house-of-the-dead-overkill/"><span style="font-style: italic;">House of the Dead: Overkill</span></a>. After <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/19/the-house-of-the-dead-overkill-where-the-dead-walk-and-bull/">the game was announced</a>, some details managed to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/gc-2008-details-for-house-of-the-dead-overkill-escape/">escape Leipzig</a> and we've been counting down the days ever since. <span id="short_desc">Studio manager, Bradley Crooks</span>, recently talked with G4 about the <span style="font-style: italic;">Grindhouse</span>-influenced game, including some of the game's features. Also, Bradley says he thinks <span style="font-style: italic;">Overkill</span> "might be the first game to feature a live birth. Or, maybe it's a live unbirth." <span style="font-style: italic;">Sounds disgusting</span>! We love it!<br /><br />G4's player is a pain in the neck, so you'll have to head past the break to check out the video.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/g4-takes-a-stroll-through-the-house-of-the-dead/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>G4 takes a stroll through the House of the Dead</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/g4-takes-a-stroll-through-the-house-of-the-dead/">G4 takes a stroll through the House of the Dead</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 08:59:00 EST. G4 has five minutes of direct-feed footage of the upcoming PS3 exclusive from Sucker Punch, <em>inFAMOUS</em>. Needless to say, it looks pretty exciting even in this early state. All footage was captured during E3 -- undoubtedly, it's shaping up even better now. Visit <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/e32008/hdvideos/27706/Infamous_DirectFeed_Gameplay.html">G4</a> to see <em>inFAMOUS</em> for a full five minutes in glorious HD.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/08/five-minutes-of-infamous/">Five minutes of inFAMOUS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Aug 2008 17:45:00 EST. [<strong>Update</strong>: Now with video (thanks, VVP)! Watch Gary Oldman spill the beans after the break. And hey, G4 - you guys totally got that story fair and square, so why pull the video?]<br /><br />Far be it from us to tell Electronic Arts how to run its business, but one would think that announcing a long-since-leaked game based on a hugely anticipated movie which just so happened to premier the very same week of the industry's largest press event would be - what we in the video game blogging business call - "a no-brainer." But, then again, we're not Electronic Arts so, despite being first <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/18/rumor-the-dark-knight-in-pandemics-hands-project-b-is-for-b/">rumored</a> and then <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/03/ign-says-pandemic-making-batman-for-sure-then-pulls-story/">leaked</a> by IGN over a year ago, Pandemic's <em>totally</em> secret adaptation of <em>The Dark Knight</em> did not make its debut during the serendipitous collision of E3 and Batman-mania last week. <br /><br />As if EA's counter-intuitive marketing plan wasn't funny enough, an interview on G4 with Commissioner Gordon himself, Gary Oldman, revealed - surprise! - that a game was indeed in development. Oldman stopped short of naming developer Pandemic or EA, but we all know the score; in response, G4 had the video removed from YouTube as well as their own site. Our favorite part from the <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/attackoftheshow/moviesandtv/64762/Dark-Knight-Special-Bonus-Interviews.html">interview teaser reel</a>? When Oldman says, "It's hard to make a movie like this under the radar." You know what, we were just thinking the same thing about games ...<br /><br /><a href="http://boards.ign.com/e3_2008_board_central/b24433/167486668/p1/">Source</a> - IGN forums<br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN94_6j21_g">Source</a> - YouTube video (since pulled by g4 Media, Inc.)<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/rumor-oldman-confirms-dark-knight-game-g4-pulls-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Oldman confirms Dark Knight game, G4 pulls video</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/22/rumor-oldman-confirms-dark-knight-game-g4-pulls-video/">Oldman confirms Dark Knight game, G4 pulls video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Jul 2008 20:59:00 EST. For those who know of "<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=-iKjkPgVQcE&amp;feature=related">the giggle loop</a>," we're attempting not to succumb as we earnestly report this information. The Championship Gaming Series (<a href="http://www.thecgs.com/">CGS</a>) <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/championship-gaming-series-comes-to-g4/?biz=1">announced</a> it will begin airing 90-minute episodes exclusively on cable-station G4 beginning July 16.<br /><br />During its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/cgs-draft-and-joystiq-at-the-playboy-mansion/">inaugural season</a> on DirecTV, CGS CEO Andy Reif says 50 million "cumulative viewers" watched the series. G4 president Neal Tiles believes the competition "is certain to appeal to our viewers." What viewers would those be ... wait, no, must not give in to urges. We wish all the best for the show's ratings on the network. People watch other professional sports, why not this?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/17/championship-gaming-series-coming-to-g4/">Championship Gaming Series coming to G4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 01:00:00 EST. We say it's a game for people who enjoy <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/no-more-heroes"><em>awesome games</em></a>. But, hey, we're just some internet blog. Although, when you think about it, being on a TV network that nobody watches might be better than being an internet blog that nobody reads. <br /><br />But, we digress. Any favorable exposure for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/09/dr-peace-releases-his-debut-single/"><em>No More Heroes</em></a> is certainly welcome, because we're <em>absolutely sure</em> that every person that owns a Wii console also needs to own this game. If you find yourself in the mood to pay to watch G4's gamer-oriented line of television programming, <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/g4-shows-coming-to-xbox-live/?biz=1">you can now scratch that puzzling itch on the Xbox Live Marketplace</a>, where several of the network's original television programs have been made available for download. These programs include <em>Attack of the Show</em>, snowboard documentary series <em>The Block</em>, and animated comedy series <em>Code Monkeys</em> (which includes a free sneak preview of the show's second season).<br /><br />Oddly enough, <em>X-Play</em> is not one of the shows featured on Microsoft's service, despite the fact that the daily half-hour Sess-fest is one of the highest rated programs on the network. A shame, too -- we would actually dish out some Microsoft buckz to avoid wading through the countless reruns of <em>Fastlane, Cops, Cheaters, </em>and other "gamer-oriented" programs to watch the oft-renamed program. Alas, we must continue to suffer the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheaters">seemingly limitless douchebaggery of Joey Greco</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/g4-original-content-now-available-on-xbox-live-marketplace/">G4 original content now available on Xbox Live Marketplace</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 May 2008 22:00:00 EST. G4's animated series <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/codemonkeys/"><em>Code Monkeys</em></a>, snowboarding reality show <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/theblock/index.html"><em>The Block</em></a> and daily tech news show <em><a href="http://www.g4tv.com/attackoftheshow/">Attack of the Show</a> </em>(sorry, no <em>X-Play</em>) are all up for purchase for 160 Microsoft points each. Though, for whatever reason, <em>Attack of the Show</em> is currently missing in action. Also, as an introductory promotion, G4 is offering up <em>Code Monkeys</em>' "Dave's Got Boobs" episode for free, so grab the 242MB episode if you're interested.<br /><br />[Thanks, StLouisRibs7734]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/28/g4-tv-brings-their-lineup-to-the-xbvm/">G4 TV brings their lineup to the XBVM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 May 2008 10:15:00 EST. <br />LucasArts producer Dan Wasson stopped by G4's X-Play show to demonstrate the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/02/details-unleashed-for-wii-version-of-the-force-unleashed/">Duel Mode and Wii controls</a> for <span style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars: The Force Unleashed</span> -- in an empty movie theatre, no less -- and, while it's no <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/smash-bros-brawl" style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</a>, the game certainly has its charms.<br /><br />Using the force, or <span style="font-style: italic;">unleashing it</span>, as <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/LucasArts/">LucasArts</a> suggests you do, to throw everything you can at your opponent while TIE fighters float around you is a scene we have no problem taking part in. All we need to know now is whether or not we'll still be able to play the game with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/wii-light-sword-lets-you-relive-the-shame-of-the-star-wars-kid/">Wii Light Sword</a> attachment to further immerse ourselves in the Star Wars Kid experience. And if you have the right blend of talent and persistence to outshine all your opponents, Recon glory will be yours.<br /><br />For those out of the know, The Sarkathlon is a custom <em>Halo 3</em> map that is created to test players' skills, wit and talent with the goal of completing all the obstacles in the fastest time possible. This time, for The Sarkathlon 2, we're being told that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/legendary-map-pack">Legendary Map Pack</a> will be used and will be much, much, much more difficult. So difficult that Bungie has partnered with G4 to give the grand prize winner the exclusive (and so so elusive) <em>Halo 3</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/recon">Recon armor</a>. Check out the <a href="http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/episodes/7491/GDC_Awards_Special.html">episode guide</a> for the full list of times.<br /><br />For those with a distaste for digests, the award shows' organizers will be hosting full-length streaming video coverage of both events on their <a href="http://www.gamechoiceawards.com/">respective</a> <a href="http://www.igf.com/">websites</a> sometime in the next week. We'll keep an eye out for when those streams become available.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/29/game-developers-choice-awards-on-g4-tonight/">Game Developers Choice Awards on G4 tonight</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 29 Feb 2008 06:30:00 EST. If you can't wait until Wednesdays to get your <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zeropunctuation/">Zero Punctuation fix</a>, G4's X-Play will begin showing "<a href="http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/682731/Zero_Punctuation__XPlay__Awesome.html">previews</a>" of Yahtzee's adventures in game-review land every Tuesday beginning February 12 before the "uncut" reviews are posted on <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/">The Escapist</a> the following day.<br /><br />Basically, G4 will probably be showing a watered-down (i.e. censored) version of the profanity-laden reviews before The Escapist gives us our quality fix the following day. Although its nice that G4 is presumably giving Mr. Croshaw some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/07/zero-punctuation-hears-the-call-of-duty/">extra cash to spend on hookers with genetic anomalies</a>, perhaps X-Play (and its <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/22/sessler-speaks-about-x-play-format-shift/">revamped format</a>) could come up with something original to grab viewers instead of riding The Escapist's coattails? But, this is clearly a win-win for both sides.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/zero-punctuation-previews-begin-on-x-play-feb-12/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation 'previews' begin on X-Play Feb. 12</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/11/zero-punctuation-previews-begin-on-x-play-feb-12/">Zero Punctuation 'previews' begin on X-Play Feb. 12</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 11 Feb 2008 20:25:00 EST. And knock us off the sofa with a softball bat, this game has potential.<br /><br />The six minute gameplay preview showcases a 20% complete build of <em>Prototype</em> where they highlight the main character's morphing abilities, the crazy about of mayhem that goes on at any given moment and some serious body dismemberment. All of our <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/prototype">previous hopes</a> and interests pertaining to <em>Prototype</em> have been further solidified after watching this hands on demo as we can truly say this game has a lot going for it. Destruction on a mass scale, super human abilities, visceral moments and a little thing called online co-op makes us giddy with anticipation. Watch the embedded hands-on demo above and check out the teaser demo after the break featuring some crazy helicopter hijacking. Just think ... the build you are watching is only 20% complete!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/video-first-prototype-gameplay-footage/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Video: First Prototype gameplay footage</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/18/video-first-prototype-gameplay-footage/">Video: First Prototype gameplay footage</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Jan 2008 16:00:00 EST. Since the channel's rebirth in 2004, the program has kept its position as the highest rated show on G4 -- beating out reruns of <em>Cops</em> and <em>Cheaters</em> by what we can only assume is a narrow margin. Despite <em>X-Play'</em>s pseudo-success, the show will see a major format change come mid-January. <br /><br />Joystiq's own <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/kyle-orland">Kyle Orland</a> got <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/meet-the-games-press-adam-sessler/71306/?biz=1">a chance to talk</a> to Adam Sessler, <em>X-Play</em>'s host of ten years (and G4's recently appointed Managing Editor, Games Editorial) about the show's makeover. According to the Sess, the show will now air five days a week, focusing its attention on gaming news in addition to its usual reviews and feature segments. This doesn't mean the show is ditching its hit-or-often-miss sense of humor: "The tone of the show isn't going to be some grave, severe thing, because at the end of the day this is video games," Sessler said.<br /><br />Sessler goes on to defend G4's somewhat lackluster programming lineup, saying he would rather "see a network with a lot of fresh content that's not always consistent on one topic rather than the same three hours repeated ad nauseum." We agree that it would be difficult to come up with an entire day's worth of programming based on video games, but perhaps they could find something a tad more relevant with which to fill those grim interims than syndicated episodes of <em>The Jamie Kennedy Experiment</em>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/22/sessler-speaks-about-x-play-format-shift/">Sessler speaks about X-Play format shift</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 22 Dec 2007 10:00:00 EST.
