The single-player demo for God of War: Ascension is available now for all users on the PlayStation Network. There's also a launch trailer out for the game, as seen above. This is the same BT Games that leaked Mass Effect 3's multiplayer and the Jak and Daxter Collection's, so there's precedence for this being more than an ambitious placeholder. We've also confirmed that they operate based on information given by local distributors.

The site gives "Feb 2013" as the game's expected ship date, but that's a bit more nebulous in its reliability at this point. Still, add this listing with Sony Santa Monica's search for a Senior Staff Concept Artist and Timothy Williams' affirmation that he is indeed working on God of War 4's orchestral score, and we feel confident in saying -- yes -- there may be yet another game in a super popular franchise.

Having recently confirmed his involvement with God of War's assuredly violent journey to the big (albeit considerably less interactive) screen, film director Brett Ratner is all set to combine his particular track record with the games-to-movie stigma and create the internet's greatest bitchfest. Not everyone's predicting a Greek tragedy, however, with God of War's creator, David Jaffe, earnestly informing us (via video, embedded after the break) that while the adaptation "could be shit," he's nevertheless satisfied with the pedigree of the director, as well as the producer (from Batman Begins!) and the writer, who penned the screenplay for Road to Perdition.

Mind you, he also says he liked X-Men 3, so perhaps he's just pulling our leg on the whole thing. That Jaffe is a rascal, we tell you!

Today, team Capcom just announced some interesting Resident Evil 5 information regarding the game's control scheme. More specifically, they're looking to overhaul the current RE5 control formula by replacing the classic stop and shoot mechanic with a more Gears inspired cover system. What's the reason? RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi feels that the cover system controls will slow down the tension that could potentially bring a new horror element into the mix. Expect to see a completely new RE5 unveiling during the Tokyo Game Show in October.

Remember the creepy Xbox 360 alligator case mod? Creator dfw monkie is back again with a brand new mod and this time it's actually related to an Xbox 360 game. The game in question is Gears of War and dfw monkie has put together a very impressive mod. The mod features raised textures and a glowing Gears of War logo. The only feature we think we would have trouble adjusting to is the glowing red ring of light. How will you know when the Xbox 360 is broken? Will you get the Green Rings of Death? The Gears of War novel we heard about earlier this year, a prequel titled The Pendulum Wars, has now been officially announced by Microsoft and Epic Games, but has since gone through a name change, author change and release date change.

Gears of War: The Battle of Aspho Fields is the novel's new title, and gone is the original writer Steven L. Kent, replaced by Karen Traviss. The prequel will now officially hit store shelves later this Fall on October 28th, prior to Gears of War 2's release. Truly Epic.

Adding to the already solid Gears of War action figure lineup, this week toy manufacturer NECA released official product shots of the seconds series of Gears of War figures that are set to hit retailers sometime this Fall. And no, you aren't experiencing a Gears induced case of deja vu. We've previously been treated to a few toy expo photos of the second series figures, but these are prettier and 100% official product shots. 'Nuff said. Progress is being made on the Gears of War movie (which is something we can't say about our long desired Halo movie) as evident by the fact that the New Line Cinema business execs in charge of bringing Marcus Fenix to the big screen have settled on a director for the film.

Variety is reporting that Live Free or Die Hard and Underworld Evolution director Len Wiseman will be taking the Gears of War movie reins. Which isn't really a huge surprise seeing that Gears of War had a cameo in Wiseman's latest flick Live Free or Die Hard which all but confirmed his involvement in the Gears movie ... or at least that's how our impressionably hopeful fanboy minds took it. A Gears movie that was originally slated or a Summer 2009 release, but development on the film has been taking longer than expected which means a delay into 2010 is inevitable. Also, is it just us or does it look like Wiseman is giving the old Bleszinski a run for his "pretty boy" money? Eh?

Wearing Marcus Fenix style armor with a a chainsaw revving Lancer similar to a certain Cliff Bleszinski. It's a Gears fanboy's dream! Coolest thing of all is that rather soon, that dream will be coming true.

TriForce Sales just announced that they, with the help of sculptor Sid Garrand from the famous Nightmare Armor Studios, have secured a license to create 1:1: scale replicas of Gears of War armor (including body armor and helmets) as well as the iconic Gears Lancer. All replicas will be made of high density foam, fiberglass and polyurethane composites, making them fully wearable and totally "badass". The July issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has an extensive 13-page blowout of Gears of War 2 multiplayer details. Earlier last week, some information leaked from and article in X360 Magazine, but the EGM cover-story by outgoing editorial director Dan Hsu includes a world of new information ripe for the picking.

Some information between the X360 and EGM article is slightly different. Most notably, some of the buttons involved in getting rid of a downed enemy are strangely different. However, since we don't talk about Gears 2 enough around here, we have all the info you need here.

From new weapon stats, the possibility of bots and the ability to blow you and your enemies up with a diabolical grenade--here is the newest info from EGM's fantastic July cover story. The issue also includes an extensive interview with Cliff Bleszinski, so any Gears fan should check it out.

On Sunday, we posted information regarding a new Gears of War re-release that Gamestop had a pre-order listing for. A new edition that is not only cheaper, but is said to include all previously released DLC on the disc. Though, its specific contents were unknown.

But now, a few days later, Gamestop updated the page, adding the official Gears of War re-release box art (it looks nearly identical) and posted a listing of all the the additional content that'll be included on a separate "Bonus Disc". Come June 24th, Microsoft will release a newer edition of Gears of War for $39.99 which will feature all the previously release DLC maps including Hidden Fronts, additional gamer pictures, themes, videos and GoW2 trailers as well. Check the break for a complete breakdown of what will be included in this latest release. Also, if it wasn't already obvious, if you haven't experienced GoW yet, then we feel this to be the opportune time to get all the Gears goodness you can handle in one (cheaper) box.

Hey, it's just after 2 PM EST so it's time for another obligatory Gears of War 2 news post. One of our X3F Soldiers tipped us off to scans of a recent article that showcased the new weapons and enemies in Gears 2. Since the other weapons spotted in the scans had been seen in the recent Assault gameplay video, we thought it would be a good time to introduce you to the flamethrower.

This no nonsense inferno-spitting handheld burns red hot and promises to cook a steak in 9 seconds flat, and we don't mean a filet mignon or nothing--we're talking a "half the cow is on your plate, why is my belt still on?" man-steak. We can't even imagine what the execution will be for the flamethrower, but we're sure Epic has something brutal up their sleeve. Hell, as long as Marcus sprinkles some salt and pepper on a dude's charred face afterwards, we're cool with whatever. More scans available at Recenzeher.

We're pretty sure that everyone and their dog played the original Gears of War the first time around (aside from most Border Collies, who are, in fact, devout PS3 fanboys), but if you've yet to divide a competitor using a firearm/lumberjack tool, a Gamestop pre-order listing for a $40 Gears re-release might tickle your fancy. We've yet to hear from Microsoft about details for the title (or a confirmation of the game's existence, for that matter), but as the listing reads "Gears of War with Maps", we can only assume it will contain the Hidden Fronts DLC as well as the Raven Down and Old Bones levels, rather than the hit song by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. With less than a month until the game's supposed release date of June 24, we're sure to hear more soon.

In an effort to milk the Gears of War teat for all its worth (mental picture), this Summer Microsoft is set to release a new edition of the original Gears of War that'll come packed with all previous released DLC and a cheaper price tag too.

According to Gamestop's pre-order listing for the title, the new edition of Gears of War will cost $39.99 and feature what we presume to be the Hidden Fronts and Discovery channel sponsored DLC. And just to make sure we're on the same page, we highly doubt this re-release will feature any of the Gears PC content seeing that Epic has made it more than clear (on numerous occasions) that bringing the content to the 360 is nigh impossible. So, if you have yet to experience curb-stomping and Locust dismemberment, we think June 24th would be the perfect time to "jump in" with chainsaws a revving.

Though other shooters have surpassed it in terms of Xbox Live activity, we still hold a dear, dear place in our heart for the multiplayer portion of Gears of War -- a place intricately carved by an enemy chainsaw. Sure, the character advancement of Call of Duty 4 and Vegas 2 led to a more compelling overall experience, but they lacked a certain panache that only a well-timed curb stomp can supply.

Imagine our excitement when we caught wind of the intimidating flood of details for the sequel's multiplayer component in the upcoming issue of UK's X360 magazine. There's a full list of said details on our Microsoft-related sister site, but to inspire you to continue reading, here's a few tantalizing buzzwords you'll find behind that link: Meatflag, Poison gas grenade, Flamethrower, Ten person multiplayer, Chainsaw duels, and last but certainly not least, Verandas. Epic's Cliff Bleszinski recently sat down with GameDaily for a feature called 10 Questions, where an esteemed member of the gaming industry is asked ten fan submitted questions. Cliff was thrown Q's from everything related to breaking into the industry, why he ditched a Dodge Viper and how to make it in today's gaming world.

Of course Gears of War 2 was a hot topic and fans asked how it will stand-up to it's Game of the Year winning predecessor. "With the sequel, we're able to significantly streamline the online experience with a far more robust package that enables players to kick more ass online with their friends," Cliff answered.

Without giving away too much information on the single-player experience, Cliff said the game must throw more interesting scenarios at players in between combat situations to stay fresh, "In Gears 2, we've got dozens of surprises in every level that will keep people talking for months to come."

With changes to Epic's premier gaming engine fans wondered how updates to Unreal Engine 3 will change the Gears experience. While Cliff was tight-lipped, he assured gamers the environments would add to the experience with a wider capacity for damage. "Players will really feel like they're in a sci-fi multiplayer version of Black Hawk Down."

Gears of War 2 hits Xbox 360 this Novemeber.

Today marks a sad day for gaming journalists as we're forced to learn the proper spelling of Gears of War 2 lead designer Cliff Blezinski, um, Kowalski, crap, Bleszinski, there we go. Speaking with MTV Multiplayer blogger Steven Totilo, Cliff confirmed that he would be dropping his CliffyB moniker, which he's used since the 90's.

It's "time to grow up a bit," Cliff wrote in a note stating the nickname doesn't suit his 30-something lifestyle and that he's more focused on working to perfect Gears of War 2 and doesn't have time for silly nicknames. At least nicknames he'll publicly endorse.

Pour one out for CliffyB folks, it was a wild ride.

Even though we can't quite figure out how it's possible, we've been informed that Carmine will in fact be back in Gears of War 2 with or without his head attached. Knowing this, the action figure gurus over at NECA created an Anthony "Tony" Carmine action figure that's set to release exclusively at this year's Comic Con. This seven inch tall Carmine figure comes complete with Lancer and Gnasher in hand and will only be available at the convention between July 24th and the 27th. We wonder if his head is detachable? Pics below.

We're aware of the recent GameTrailers comparison video debacle, which we assume was an honest error rather than a deliberate one, but here's another one to look at. Comparing footage from Gears of War to the recent gameplay footage of Gears of War 2, we can see slight improvements in the Unreal Engine 3 graphics. Character models look less "rubbery" and smooth. The game also features something that was rare in Gears, sunlight--and it looks nice.

While Gears of War had to prove the power of the Xbox 360, Gears of War 2 has more to prove in terms of storytelling after releases like BioShock, Portal and Grand Theft Auto IV have taken the stage. The storyline in Gears of War was underwhelming to say the least but we have high hopes for Gears 2 and everything it will teach us about Microsoft's newest universe. But so help you Epic if we have to play as a Locust.

As if the Prototype series wasn't enough, DC Comics has inked a deal to produce a comic book series for another high profile gaming franchise that some of you may be familiar with. A lil' franchise that goes by the name of Gears of War ... have you heard?

The Gears of War comic will debut later this October with a storyline focused on bridging the gap between the first Gears installment and Gears of War 2 which is set to release in November. More Gears storyline, more Gears artwork and more Gears goodness? Count us in with guns a blazing!

The action figure manufacturing crew over at NECA recently posted a few final packaging photographs of their Gears of War action figures that are set for release sometime this month. You can view the glorious packaging photos of Marcus Fenix, Locust Drone, Locust Sniper and the controversial Augustus Cole in the gallery below. Yup, you have to agree, they are beautifully gory figures and the packaging is (dare we say) much better than that seen in the Halo 3 McFarlane figures. Much sleeker and figure specific.

As part of their Black Professionals In Games series, MTV Multiplayer had a chance to chat with Morgan Gray, the Senior Producer over at Crystal Dynamics, about his views on how blacks are portrayed in video games. And let's just say he had no problem pointing the racial stereotype finger at Epic Games.

When asked his opinion on how black Gears of War character Cole Train is portrayed in the game, Gray responded by saying "Cole Train is basically like every other effin' black character in a video game. Like here comes the urban stereotype. Where is this 1990's - not even 2000 - black slang, where does this fit in this futuristic world that doesn't even take place on Earth? They go really far to do a lot of fictional justifications for this culture that they've built, and they go right back to this urban stereotype for the black character." Gray went on to say that a character like Cole Train, "all it does is reinforce dumb stereotypes and it sort of reinforces casual racism." Yes sir, this is one loaded and passionately argued topic indeed ...

ComingSoon.net recently had the chance to talk with Temple Hill Productions producer big man Wyck Godfrey about the status of the Gears of War movie and where it's headed. Godfrey confirmed with them that their team has a finalized script, almost has a director attached to the flick and are scheduled to start filming "early next year for [release] the summer of 2010". A Summer 2010 release, not too shab.

And to recap: It's good that the Gears of War movie hasn't gone the way of our long time shelved (but still promised) Halo movie. The bad is that we have to wait until at least 2010 to see Marcus chainsaw his way through a live action locust hell. Who wants to bet that Cliffy will be making a cameo? Any takers?

While we've known that God of War III has been in development since Cory Barlog let it slip in early November, we haven't heard anything about it since then. Now, IGN have spotted a teaser advert for the game on the back cover of God of War: Chains of Olympus' retail manual. Not only does it confirm the game's existance for a second time, but it says that it will be "Coming Soon".

Considering that we weren't expecting to see God of War III before 2009, we're surprised that Sony are claiming that the game is coming "soon." Does this mean that we could be getting two Kratos adventures this year? No doubt we'll learn more later in the year at either Sony's Gamer's Day (whenever that lies this year) or at E3.

You may have come to this conclusion when you saw the debut trailer for Gears of War 2, but Variety blogger Ben Fritz is claiming that the hot, chainsaw-on-chainsaw action featured in the preview wasn't just a stylish cutscene -- it's also going to be a gameplay mechanic in the uber-anticipated sequel. Fritz apparently spoke to people who are "close enough to the development team at Epic to know" that chainsaw wielders will now be able to repel, and possibly counter, each other's attacks.

Epic hasn't confirmed this, but given the feature's appearance in the trailer, and the frequent complaints about an "unbalanced" chainsaw combat system in the first Gears of War, we think it's safe to assume we'll be spending many long winter nights playing Lumberjack Bushido Blade when the game drops this November.

Remember that Tears Gears of War trailer that got you all teary-eyed? No? Oh, us either. But we do remember that Mad World trailer that was all the rage when the Gears of War hype train was hitting the retail station. Thanks to the little big event dubbed ToyFare 2008, AFI has blessed us with a photographic preview of NECA's Gears of War series two action figures. And before we go any further, the awesomely bloody-violent picture you see above is a second series GoW figure rightfully named "Locust Headshot". A figure that brings tears to our eyes and is a guaranteed X3F purchase. We've even made room for it by our Viva Pinata toys.

Moving along, NECA's second series will be comprised of the Locust Headshot figure you see above, Dominic Santiago, Damon Baird and another Locust variant. No release date has been set, but one could gather that since series one will be releasing in April, the second series should release either in the Summer or Fall. The wait will be rough on us though, we want our headshot figure NOW!

Last month, Sierra Entertainment announced that Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust would be releasing to the Xbox 360 sometime in the Fall and since then, everyone has been on the edge of their seats waiting for a first glimpse of the game. And, this weekend, Sierra met Larry fans' demands by releasing an official Box Office Bust debut trailer. One that pulls a tiny smidgen of inspiration from a popular "Mad World" Gears of War trailer we all know and adore. We guess, if the formula worked before, why change it?

Embedded above is the Lesuire Suit Larry trailer that's in question as we challenge you to try and spot the Gears references and nods. And really, it shouldn't be all that hard. Just be mindful of the shiny, bouncing, gold things at the end of the trailer. They will make you go blind.

Earlier this week the National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) revealed the fourth and final figure in the Series 1 set of upcoming Gears of War action figures.

Joining previously announced models of Marcus Fenix, Augustus Cole and the Locust Drone, the Locust Sniper looks like the perfect addition for gamers to add to their collection when the figures release in April 2008. Actually, the models are so detailed that we would even recommend playing out your favorite Gears of War scenarios should you run into any issues with playing games. Chatting it up with the MTV Multiplayer crew during DICE, the ever entertaining and somewhat outspoken Cliff Bleszinski talks about life, video game design and where he thinks the industry is headed. From their brief interview we learn that the Cliffster has been taking it easy lately, stepping back from his intense development schedule and is gathering inspiration from different media and experiences all from a different perspective. It's easy to see that MTV Multiplayer is talking to a a newly refreshed yet same old same old Cliffy B.

But after all the life talk, we quickly learn that Cliffy B fully supports and is entirely focused on console gaming saying that "PC [gaming] is just in disarray" and that "the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we're doing". Cliffy goes on to fully embrace the direction console gaming is taking and that "right now making AAA games on consoles is where we're at". Which AAA game exactly? He wouldn't say, but we have a hunch that the title rhymes with "tears of bore boo" and includes lots of blood. You aren't fooling anyone Cliffy, bring on the Gears 2 already.

Update: Speaking with Eurogamer, Mark Rein says that former EA Chicago man Kudo Tsunoda's role will be that of a General Manager replacing the GM from the original Gears title. "Kudo will be the GM in charge of the studio that oversees MGS/Epic publishing relationship. Our previous GM is moving over to the studio that oversees the Halo franchise where there's more action going on," said Rein. In yet another ninja-move, everyone talks around Gears of War 2 without ever confirming it exists.

Late last month reports were circling that former EA Chicago studio head, Kudo Tsunoda, had shifted to a role within Microsoft Game Studios. Rumors had pinned Tsunoda as the man Microsoft would place in charge of the Gears of War license and according to Eurogamer, these rumors have been confirmed.

In one of his many interviews during the 2008 D.I.C.E. Summit, Shane Kim confirmed that Tsunoda was indeed crowned as king of GoW Village. Gears of War 2 confirmed, right? Not exactly, while Tsunoda is now in charge of the Gears license, Kim refused to acknowledge the existence of a sequel for the 2006 game of the year. So our guess is Tsunoda's going to sit in a dark room wearing a crown and holding a jewel encrusted scepter humming Mad World to himself all day.

The humorous and ever so witty dev team over at Bizarre Creations got a little creative with their achievements for upcoming title The Club. So creative, they somehow managed to one-up Gears of War's "Seriously" achievement.

Looking over The Club's achievements one will quickly notice an achievement by the name of "No, Seriously" which can only be earned if a player gets 10,001 kills in ranked multiplayer. This, of course, is a direct reference to GoW's famous (and nearly impossible to obtain) "Seriously" achievement where gamers must rack up some 10,000 ranked kills. As you see, The Club's "No, Seriously" requires an extra kill. Nicely played Bizarre, nicely played.

Though, we're sorry to say that Gears' "Seriously" will forever be held high atop our list of most respected achievements and can never be replaced or duplicated, even if it only requires 10,000 kills to unlock. Heck, "No, Seriously" will only net you 40 Gamerscore, ten less Gamerscore than the the original "Seriously". It must not be as l33t of an achievement as it's made out to be ... just saying Bizarre, just saying.

The video game industry's favorite insider darling Surfer Girl is back to her predicting ways, this time targeting Alan Wake and the highly anticipated Gears of War 2.

According to her long list of answers that she posted in response to readers' numerous questions, Surfer Girl confirms that Gears of War 2 will be making an appearance at GDC later this month and so will the somewhat forgotten Alan Wake. Surfer Girl goes on to claim other rumors including Mass Effect DLC as well as Halo 4's existence, but in the short term, GoW2 and Alan Wake making a GDC appearance is the hotness right now. Even if Mark Rein says otherwise.

Looking back, Surfer Girl has been able to keep a pretty solid track record for being spot about insider news, but know that her insider tips are not always perfect. So, take all her tips for what they're worth, analyze your GDC floorplan and pick up a copy of GamePro, because GoW2 announcement buzz is taking over the intertubes. Be prepared.
