In the same conference call that gave us <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/bioshock-movie-may-be-out-in-time-for-bioshock-3/">this head scratcher</a>, Take-Two reps tap danced over a number of other issues, including their official reason for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/grand-theft-auto-iv-dlc-delayed-until-fiscal-q1-2009/">delaying <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span>'s hotly anticipated DLC</a>, as well as any potential partnerships that may be lurking on the horizon.<br /><br />Regarding the company's resolution to keep the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv"><span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span></a> downloadable content out of players' hands until sometime between November 1 of this year and January 31, 2009, Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick calmly stated that the decision was based on "portfolio balancing," and that the delay was "not based on development issues." Even as our hearts ached for additional Liberty City shenanigans, Take-Two reps on the call remained enthusiastic, and for good reason, given that during the last quarter the <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA </span>brand made up an impressive 78% of the firm's total publishing revenue.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/take-two-portfolio-balancing-drove-gta-iv-dlc-delay-partners/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Take-Two: 'Portfolio balancing' drove GTA IV DLC delay, partnerships possible</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/05/take-two-portfolio-balancing-drove-gta-iv-dlc-delay-partners/">Take-Two: 'Portfolio balancing' drove GTA IV DLC delay, partnerships possible</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 05 Jun 2008 18:50:00 EST. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zero-punctuation/">Zero Punctuation</a> takes on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gta-iv"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span></a> this week, but if you're <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/ny-times-gta-iv-snatches-500-million-in-first-week/">one of the five people</a> who didn't buy the game and are hoping for some ZP hate-fest on par with the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/zero-punctuation-beats-up-smash-bros-brawl-youre-surprised/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Super Smash Bros. Yahtzee doesn't exactly suck <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span>'s "<a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/nsfw-sonys-euro-ps3-thumb-for-a-penis-ad/">thumb</a>" -- like he does <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/17/zero-punctuation-likes-orange-box-but-loves-portal/">Valve's</a> -- but the issues he grasps onto are relatively minor points about getting lost in the side stuff. Not really full of his trademark, hyperbolic bile then. Shockingly, he even says that after finishing the review, he went back and played the game some more. It appears Niko Bellic has found a friend in Yahtzee.<br /><br />Find this week's NSFW <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/4902-Zero-Punctuation-Grand-Theft-Auto-IV">relative non-hate review</a> of <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span> after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/zero-punctuation-enjoys-grand-theft-auto-rotica/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Zero Punctuation enjoys Grand Theft Auto-rotica</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/14/zero-punctuation-enjoys-grand-theft-auto-rotica/">Zero Punctuation enjoys Grand Theft Auto-rotica</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 14 May 2008 16:45:00 EST. Microsoft is apparently quite happy with the hardware sales boost it received with the release of <em>GTA IV</em> in Europe. <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/microsoft-claims-gta-iv-victory-in-uk-as-360-hardware-sales-jump-125/?biz=1">GameDaily</a> reports that a representative for Microsoft Europe said, "Today is has become clear that consumers are finding Xbox 360 the best way to experience Liberty City." Microsoft stated that Xbox 360 console sales jumped 125% in the UK, "reflecting the popularity of this franchise on the platform."<br /><br />Not to rain on Microsoft's parade, but the company didn't actually reveal a sales number to go with that 125%. So, for all we know, the week before <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> released the company sold 10 consoles in the UK, and the following week it sold about 23. Let's put an end to the war of percentages! We know victory is 200% sweeter when fought that way ... but we believe that's true only 33% of the time.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/gta-iv-makes-xbox-360-sales-jump-125-in-uk/">GTA IV makes Xbox 360 sales jump 125% in UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 May 2008 17:30:00 EST. Take-Two has sued the Chicago Transit Authority for violating its free speech and contractual rights after the authority pulled ads for <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> on the transit system without explanation. <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN0541723720080505">Reuters</a> reports that Take-Two accuses the CTA of violating the contract for the $300,000 ad campaign that involved running <em>GTA IV</em> ads around the transit system for six weeks between April and June.<br /><br />The suit seeks an order for the CTA to run the ads, as well as at least $300,000 in damages. Reuters states the <em>GTA IV</em> posters were removed following a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/chicago-transit-bans-gta-iv-ads/">FOX news report</a> on the ads. Now, we're not lawyers (although <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/law-of-the-game/">we do have one writing for us</a>), so we can't say if the CTA violated a basic contract, but Chicago residents should let us know if they see the ads back up and snap a photo.<br /><br />[Thanks to all who sent this in.]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/06/take-two-sues-chicago-transit-for-pulling-gta-iv-ads/">Take-Two sues Chicago Transit for pulling GTA IV ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 06 May 2008 13:30:00 EST. Talk of <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/12/analyst-iron-man-film-could-suffer-from-grand-theft-auto-iv-rel/">possibly hurting <em>Iron Man</em>'s opening</a> was clearly wrong. According to <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/05/no-grand-theft.html">Variety</a>, the movie made $104.2 million during its opening weekend, proving Paramount's Rob Moore right when he said that young males can carve out two hours to see <em>Iron Man</em>.<br /><br />Variety did explore <em>GTA IV</em>'s <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117984289.html?categoryid=1079&amp;cs=1">impact on the home video market</a> recently, which showed no major releases targeted at the young male demo for the week. Probably the best comparison would be to see how the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/iron-man"><em>Iron Man</em> video game</a> did in sales when NPD comes out next month, and we know we're going out on a limb on this one, but we're pretty sure <em>GTA IV</em> won that battle.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/05/no-gta-iv-effect-on-iron-man-opening/">No GTA IV effect on Iron Man opening</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 05 May 2008 13:25:00 EST. New Zealand's Office of Film and Literature had to reiterate this week that store clerks can't sell <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> to parents purchasing it for their children. We chuckled at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/daily-show-visits-liberty-city/">the Daily Show's coverage</a> of the game's midnight release, but thoroughly LOLed at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kgo0VXGixk">Conan O'Brien's previews</a> (embedded after the jump) of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXGSwx29EjI">the toned-down version of </a><em><a href="javascript:void(0);/*1209834262336*/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a> </em>(if only Stephen Bishop's classic "It Might Be You" <em>really were</em> available on Liberty City's airwaves).<br /><br />However, we didn't truly board the ROFLcopter until we saw <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sXmgM8_FGw">the above skit from The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson</a> (the former unitesticled boss on "The Drew Carey Show"). Perhaps it was the visit from "Saturday Night Live" veteran Tim Meadows that made it our fave, or perhaps it was their subtle send-up of the criticism the game has endured due to it's adult content. On that note, if there's anything funnier than <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRfpzjlZCVY">the <em>actual </em>media coverage of Rockstar's mature blockbuster</a>, we've yet to see it.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/grand-theft-auto-iv-takes-late-night-comedy-world-by-storm/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Theft Auto IV takes late night comedy world by storm</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/03/grand-theft-auto-iv-takes-late-night-comedy-world-by-storm/">Grand Theft Auto IV takes late night comedy world by storm</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 03 May 2008 15:00:00 EST. We've been trying to get answers this week for those <em>GTA IV</em> players who've been <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/ps3-gta-iv-freezing-up-fix-suggests-deleting-data-starting-ove/">experiencing freeze-ups</a> with the title. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/poll-are-you-having-technical-issues-with-gta-iv/">Our very unscientific poll</a> has shown that although many of you are enjoying the game without issue, a small percentage are experiencing problems -- and a "small percentage" of the millions who bought <em>GTA IV</em> actually ends up being a lot of people. Although Rockstar has so far not responded to the issue, Gamespot received a "fix" from Take-Two's tech support team.<br /><br />The <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6190279.html">12-part "fix"</a> Gamespot received involves steps like: erasing the install data, deleting the game saves, disabling PS3 internet connectivity, disabling the console's information board, deleting the system's internet cache and much more. For its part, Sony says the issue is affecting "a limited number of PS3s" and its working with customers to resolve the problem. Microsoft has yet to acknowledge any freezing issues.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/02/take-twos-gta-iv-freezing-fix-for-ps3/">Take-Two's GTA IV freezing 'fix' for PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 02 May 2008 11:45:00 EST. It probably comes as no shock that Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox Live, believes <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> could very well take the top spot on Live from the see-saw battle waged between <em>Call of Duty 4</em> and <em>Halo 3</em>. Greenberg tells <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSN3055808220080501">Reuters</a> that the multiplayer is so well implemented in <em>GTA IV</em> that he can't imagine anyone who owns a copy of the game not trying it on Xbox Live.<br /><br />Greenberg goes on to say that <em>GTA IV</em> appeals to such a large audience and it'll probably be the best-selling game launched all year. <em>GTA</em>'s multiplayer is certainly a different experience from <em>COD 4 </em>and <em>Halo</em>'s first-person perspective, and could easily take the top spot on Live with curious players testing it, but whether the game's multiplayer is actually deep enough to hold on to players remains to be seen.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/microsoft-gta-iv-to-drive-xbox-live-/?biz=1">GameDaily</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/01/gta-iv-could-become-xbox-lives-top-game/">GTA IV could become Xbox Live's top game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 01 May 2008 13:30:00 EST. As we wait to hear about the bagiggles of cash <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a> </em>is <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/16/variety-gta-iv-expected-to-make-400m-in-first-week/">making out in the land of retail</a>, we wondered how much the production actually cost. Speaking with <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/scotland/article3821838.ece"><em>The Times</em></a>, <em>GTA IV</em> producer Leslie Benzies "hazards a guess" that the game cost $100 million to make, with about 1,000 people working on it.<br /><br />If true, <em>GTA IV</em> would be the most expensive game ever made according to the <a href="http://gamers.guinnessworldrecords.com/records/multi_format.aspx"><em>Guiness World Records Gamer's Edition</em></a>, which has <em>Shenmue</em> on the Dreamcast as the most expensive, at a cost of $70 million to develop (we don't know if that takes inflation into account). Whatever the cost of <em>GTA IV</em>, we're sure Rockstar will make (or have already made) it back.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/gta-iv-could-be-most-expensive-game-ever-made/">GTA IV could be most expensive game ever made</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. Chart-Track estimates <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> sold 609,000 units on its launch day in the UK, which eclipses <em>GTA: San Andreas</em>' 2004 first-day record of 501,000 units. <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/gta-iv-sets-uk-day-one-sales-records">GI.biz</a> reports the game also broke records among the two consoles it's available on, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 selling 335,000 and 274,000 units respectively. The former records belonged to <em>Halo 3</em> with 266,000 and <em>GT5: Prologue</em> with 80,000 units sold on day one.<br /><br />The "official" Chart-Track sales data will release on May 6, with the current data being based on electronic point of sale and retailer estimates. We're still waiting for Take-Two to send out a press release trumpeting its global success.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/30/chart-track-estimates-gta-iv-broke-uk-sales-record/">Chart-Track estimates GTA IV broke UK sales record</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 30 Apr 2008 14:00:00 EST. Just to quiet the fanboys (or rile them up), GameVideos has put together a comparison video between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a>. You can find it after the break. To be honest, we really don't see a difference, but we're sure that won't stop someone from mentioning how multi-bump aliasing is totally missing from one version of the game. Normally, we'd have a witty closer here, but we're working on a severe sleep deficit at the moment. Now, back to Liberty City!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/gta-iv-comparison-video-between-xbox-360-ps3/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GTA IV comparison video between Xbox 360, PS3</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/gta-iv-comparison-video-between-xbox-360-ps3/">GTA IV comparison video between Xbox 360, PS3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. The PlayStation 3 has forced us to become accustomed to having to endure lengthy installations prior to being able to sit down and play a game, a fact made all the more aggravating for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span></a>, both because of the already overflowing anticipation as well as the aftertaste of having been up for multiple hours elbow to elbow with fellow players waiting for the opportunity to play the game. <br /><br />But there's little use in complaining at this point, so I took the opportunity to make me some tea and a sandwich as I prepared for what was to be a memorable evening that would mark my first visit to Liberty City ... <em>ever</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/">Grand Theft Auto IV</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539371"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-018_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539372"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-019_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539373"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-020_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#253556"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/05/gtaiv-0525-09_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/grand-theft-auto-iv/#539374"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/12/gta4-021_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-theft-auto-iv-impressions-a-stranger-in-liberty-city/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Theft Auto IV impressions: A stranger in Liberty City</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-theft-auto-iv-impressions-a-stranger-in-liberty-city/">Grand Theft Auto IV impressions: A stranger in Liberty City</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 12:58:00 EST. Given the nearly unquantifiable level of anticipation building up to the midnight unveiling of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv">Rockstar's opus</a>, it seemed prudent to roll up to the local Broken Arrow, OK Gamestop well in advance of the game's release. All of the preparation went for naught, however, as the store kept its doors open all night as enthusiasts congregated inside, joked in the secret language that only we nerds can appreciate, and not-so-quietly chatted about the game they would very soon be playing.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-line-auto-a-diverse-gathering-broken-arrow-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Line Auto: A diverse gathering (Broken Arrow edition)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-line-auto-a-diverse-gathering-broken-arrow-edition/">Grand Line Auto: A diverse gathering (Broken Arrow edition)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 04:00:00 EST. I don't have much <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/we-wait-for-the-halo-3-boston-edition-aka-failure-to-launch/">luck with midnight launches</a>. Turns out the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/best-buys-gta-iv-midnight-opening-list/">midnight launch</a> at the Best Buy in Dedham, Massachusetts, was no exception. Signs that something was wrong were quite evident when I was driving through the parking lot and noticed the considerable lack of vehicles present. Standing outside the store was the manager, Howard, who had some bad news.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-line-auto-almost-failure-to-launch-boston-edition/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Grand Line Auto: Almost failure to launch (Boston edition)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/29/grand-line-auto-almost-failure-to-launch-boston-edition/">Grand Line Auto: Almost failure to launch (Boston edition)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 29 Apr 2008 03:00:00 EST. Sometimes it's interesting to see the industry through fresh eyes again. <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/04/exclusive-revie.html">Variety</a> has an editorial up about the "ethically troubling" industry standard of exclusive reviews. The editorial specifically discusses <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/first-grand-theft-auto-iv-review-perfect-10/">IGN's <em>GTA IV</em> "exclusive,"</a> as the review site didn't get a "scoop" by finding some early copy of the game and posting a review, but by being given permission by Rockstar to break embargo. Every other outlet had to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/27/metareview-grand-theft-auto-iv-xbox-360-ps3/">wait until this past Sunday</a>.<br /><br />The Variety writer states that he doesn't personally trust any review labeled "exclusive," pointing out "reviews are entirely subjective, so if a critic is being influenced inappropriately in any way, the whole thing is worthless even though we as readers can't prove there's anything 'wrong.'" The piece concludes by saying that any self-respecting publication with a <em>GTA IV</em> review should have run it the minute IGN released its review. It's a lovely thought, but the last thing any review outlet wants is a reputation with PR firms for breaking embargo. In a worst case scenario, if any of these outlets signed legally binding non-disclosure agreements for these reviews, they'd have to face the possibility of being sued.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/28/variety-discusses-ethics-issue-with-exclusive-reviews/">Variety discusses ethics of 'exclusive' reviews</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 Apr 2008 19:30:00 EST. However, just a stone's skip across the Tasman Sea, New Zealand provides a more favorable environment for mature titles, whipping out the Banhammer and the Censorstick much less often than its Southwestern Pacific counterpart.<br /><br />You can imagine our surprise when we read that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/10/rockstar-stands-behind-australian-gta-iv-edits-calls-for-18-r/">version of <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> that will be tailored to Australia's OFLC guidelines</a> <a href="http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&amp;objectid=10506602">will also be the only version available in New Zealand</a>. It seems that the debaucherous adventures of Niko Bellic were deemed inappropriate by the somewhat hipper Kiwi chapter of the OFLC, much to the chagrin of the thousands of Australians who pre-ordered the naughty version of the game from New Zealand's online gaming retailers. <br /><br />Oddly enough, the version of <em>GTA IV</em> that will be sold in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papua_New_Guinea">fellow Oceania nation Papua New Guinea</a> will not only be uncensored, but will be accompanied by an actual foul-mouthed, gun-toting hooker. The ESRB and National Institute on Media and the Family would like to remind (na&iuml;ve) parents that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> is not appropriate for children. In a <a href="http://www.esrb.org/about/news/downloads/ESRB_NIMF_statement_on_GTAIV_4.25.08.pdf">joint statement</a> by the two organizations, the groups point out <em>GTA IV</em> has been rated Mature for: Intense Violence, Blood, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Partial Nudity and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. What 12-year-old wouldn't beg to play that? It sounds awesome!<br /><br />The two organizations "encourage parents to be informed and exercise their discretion when considering the purchase of all M-rated games." The ESRB reminds that the average age of a gamer is now over 30 and that some titles are "clearly not intended" for kids. And <em>GTA IV</em> is <em>clearly</em> one of those games.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/esrb-reminds-parents-gta-iv-isnt-for-children/">ESRB reminds parents GTA IV isn't for children</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 16:58:00 EST. Starting with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a>, Blockbuster Video will begin adding video games to the "sacred" outer new release wall. Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes tells <a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/04/blockbuster-put.html">Variety</a> that the <em>GTA IV</em> launch is a "real springboard" for the company and it plans to use it as a centerpiece for moving games to where only the latest Hollywood releases used to tread. <br /><br />Now, granted, if this were before the advent of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamefly">Gamefly</a> this news would be much more exciting -- although, we'd still have to worry about pesky late fees. Blockbuster has been <a href="http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2007/06/25/daily39.html?jst=b_ln_hl">hurting</a> in recent years as if faces competition from many angles, not the least of which is Netflix. This move for video games in Blockbuster doesn't seem so much like a sign of respect for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/21/gamedailys-biggest-story-of-07-record-shattering-game-sales/">growing games industry</a>, but as another desperate move by a company that's <a href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117983993.html?categoryid=19&amp;cs=1&amp;query=%22circuit+city%22">struggling to survive</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/blockbuster-putting-gta-iv-on-the-new-release-wall/">Blockbuster putting GTA IV on the 'new release' wall</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 13:30:00 EST. Gamestop recently released a <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/gtaiv/gta4midnight.pdf">mega-PDF</a> of every store (in the States) opening at midnight for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> launch. We're pretty sure there's still plenty of time to get that pre-order in at Gamestop before April 29 occurs in your respective time zone.<br /><br />As always, customers shouldn't plan on showing up at the launch without a pre-order and expect a copy to be waiting like at <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/23/best-buys-gta-iv-midnight-opening-list/">other</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/wal-marts-gta-iv-launch-details/">retailers</a>. It's surprising to still find customers at every major midnight launch disappointed when the Gamestop clerk tells the people without a pre-order to take a walk. When will people learn that Gamestop has rules?!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/25/gamestops-gta-iv-midnight-launch-mega-list/">GameStop's GTA IV midnight launch mega-list</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 25 Apr 2008 07:00:00 EST. We truly appreciate all the tips about the early release letters allegedly sent by Rockstar and Take-Two telling retailers to just go ahead and release <em>GTA IV</em> to the public ... problem is, it just ain't true. That's it, no need to get into details. The letters are nothing but fakes.<br /><br />Trust us, if <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> was given the green light to release early, the <strike>country</strike> planet would certainly know about it within an hour. The deceitful documents can be found in their entirety for perusal below.<br />

Wal-Mart's intranet, "The Wire," recently laid out how the maestro of retail will handle the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> launch. As seen in the picture above -- with the full plan detailed in the gallery below -- 24-hour stores will begin selling the game at midnight and should be prepared for the launch. One of the more interesting parts in the "execution guide" states that Wal-Mart has a "strategic focus on winning in gaming, and <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span> represents a strong opportunity for [it] to highlight [its] entry into the gaming industry." Customers are supposed to know that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/walmart">Wal-Mart</a> is the: "Fastest way to play <em>GTA IV</em>."<br /><br />The guide describes that two associates should be manning the register, with one to ring up customers and the other to pass along the requested game version. If the line is too long, an electronics associate should "take quantities of the game to the front register and assist the cashier by handing out the game at time of purchase." Considering Wal-Mart went through the effort of making such a comprehensive guide, corporate would probably love to hear from customers who don't have a pleasant and efficient shopping experience during the <span style="font-style: italic;">GTA IV</span> launch.*<br /><br /><small>*Metagame: The "execution guide" has a major error on Pg. 2, can you spot it? Hint after the break.</small><br /><br />[Thanks Anonymous]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wal-mart-gta-iv-plans/">Wal-Mart GTA IV plans</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wal-mart-gta-iv-plans/#764823"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/wmgta11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wal-mart-gta-iv-plans/#764822"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/wmgta21_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wal-mart-gta-iv-plans/#764821"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/wmgta31_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wal-mart-gta-iv-plans/#764820"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/wmgta41_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/wal-mart-gta-iv-plans/#764819"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2008/04/wmgta51_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/wal-marts-gta-iv-launch-details/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Wal-Mart's GTA IV launch details</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/22/wal-marts-gta-iv-launch-details/">Wal-Mart's GTA IV launch details</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 22 Apr 2008 09:30:00 EST. Using Chicago's street violence as a springboard, the city's <a href="http://www.myfoxchicago.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=6353524&amp;version=1&amp;locale=EN-US&amp;layoutCode=VSTY&amp;pageId=3.1.1">FOX affiliate</a> aired a piece about <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> ads on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Thanks to the report, all the <em>GTA IV</em> advertising will now be removed. <br /><br />As <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2008/04/21/gta-iv-ads-to-be-pulled-from-buses-as-transit-authority-caves-to-pressure/">GamePolitics</a> points out, the ads do not depict any scenes of violence and it's currently unknown what the CTA's policy is on advertising R-rated movies; the CTA also stopped an ad campaign back in 2004 for <em>GTA: San Andreas</em>. Boston, Denver and Portland, Oregon, have had <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/30/the-political-game-throwing-free-speech-under-the-bus">similar issues</a> with <em>GTA</em> ads on its public transportation system. Ironically, the FOX affiliate promotes alcohol on its website (picture after the break). Wonder how many people died of alcohol related incidents in Chicago this weekend?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2008/04/21/gta-iv-ads-to-be-pulled-from-buses-as-transit-authority-caves-to-pressure/">GamePolitics</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/chicago-transit-bans-gta-iv-ads/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Chicago transit bans GTA IV ads</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/21/chicago-transit-bans-gta-iv-ads/">Chicago transit bans GTA IV ads</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 21 Apr 2008 10:45:00 EST. The latest, Microsoft-endorsed, <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> special edition issue of <a href="http://www.computerandvideogames.com/">Computer and Video Games</a> magazine suggests that the 360 DLC is to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/first-grand-theft-auto-iv-review-perfect-10/">the perfect scoring <em>GTA IV</em></a> as "Vice City or San Andreas were [to] GTA III," and later, in simpler terms, "<a href="http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167463">Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities" for the title</a>.<br /><br />While this infinitely awesome feature might be technically and fiscally possible, we must keep a firm grasp on our cynically-tinted monocles until official confirmation arises. Still, it's tough not to wonder what cities Rockstar could build knock-off replicas of to add to their latest title -- perhaps <a href="http://www.atlanticcitynj.com/">an Atlantic City clone</a>? A geographically-appropriate rendering of New Jersey? A mock-up of the bustling metropolis of Mud Lick, KY? The possibilities are endless!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/19/rumor-gta-iv-dlc-may-include-entirely-new-cities/">Rumor: GTA IV DLC may include entirely new cities</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 19 Apr 2008 21:00:00 EST. <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> has gone gold and is "en route" to stores, which means any fears of an <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6189477.html">eleventh hour delay</a> for the game can be squashed like a snitch's head in a vice. Take-Two's CEO, Ben Feder, <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/news/6189477.html">stated</a> during the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/17/take-two-says-its-worth-more-than-26-per-share-remains-open-t/">shareholder's meeting last night</a> that the game is in production and should arrive at retailers soon.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a>, expected to have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/14/poll-results-achievements-dlc-main-reason-to-pick-gta-iv-for-x/">massive launch on Xbox 360 and PS3</a>, won't be available to purchase until April 29. So, if you've got a friend working in retail who's got access to the stock room -- now's the time to tell them how much you love them!<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/gta-iv-is-gold-and-en-route-to-stores/">GTA IV is gold and 'en route' to stores</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Apr 2008 13:00:00 EST. In more <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gtaiv/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> news, it looks like that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/07/gta-iv-hardware-bundle-spotted-on-swedish-retail-site/">Swedish <em>GTA IV</em> bundle</a> is moving across Europe. Well, at least to the UK, that is. Spotted on British retail website, <a href="http://www.game.co.uk/PS3/Hardware/HardwareBundle/~r334572/Sony-PlayStation-3-with-Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/">Game</a>, the bundle is now available for pre-order. It is priced at a steep (for us Americans anyway)<span class="productpricenew"> &pound;319.99 (roughly US$640). <br /><br />Inside the box is a 40GB PS3 and a copy of <em>GTA IV</em>. As far as Britain is concerned, this one is as pricey</span> as any of the other bundles, so it's not a bad deal really.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.n4g.com/News-136308.aspx">N4G</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/grand-theft-auto-iv-bundle-available-at-game-uk-retailer/">Grand Theft Auto IV bundle available at Game UK retailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Apr 2008 10:00:00 EST. It looks like <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grand-theft-auto-iv/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> is making good time on its way to an April 29 release. The game has gone gold which means (and you should all know this by now) that the game is done and being mass produced. In this case, however, <em>GTA IV</em> is not only gold but already mobile -- the games are shipping out to retailers.<br /><br />At this point, the only thing that could stop the game now is if they somehow found a mistake with the printing ... or if some impatient gamers plan a GTA of their own and steal one of the delivery trucks. We're not trying to make you worry with our doomsday scenarios -- just pointing out the possibilities. April 29 is less than two weeks away, are you excited?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/18/grand-theft-auto-iv-has-gone-gold-in-transit/">Grand Theft Auto IV has gone gold, in transit</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 18 Apr 2008 08:00:00 EST. Rockstar Games' <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/27/track-your-gta-iv-stats-with-rockstar-games-social-club/">Social Club</a> is now open for <a href="https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/">pre-registration</a> before the site fully launches on April 29. All the site requires is your email address <strike>to sell to third parties</strike>, age (kids, make sure to lie) and zip code. As a bonus, those who pre-register will automatically be entered in a drawing for a <strike>drawing</strike> portrait to be created of their likeness in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV/"><em>GTA IV</em></a> art style. Admittedly, that sounds cool enough to risk opening ourselves up to a mountain of spam. Can someone be envied <em>to death?</em><br /><br />Fulfilling his civic duty as a gaming journalist, Taylor gave <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/f/hes-finished-grand-theft-auto-iv/a-2008040412432960029">his impressions of the complete work in a spoiler-free interview with GamesRadar</a> -- unsurprisingly, <em>he was a fan</em>. The fourth installment apparently "craps on all the others" in the franchise, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/28/gtaiv-trailer-2-looking-for-that-special-someone/">the main character, Niko Bellic</a>, is "most amazing protagonist in any game [he's] ever played." We suggest perusing the remainder of his colorful commentary to help pass the remaining twenty-three days and nine hours until the game lands in our quivering, anticipatory laps.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/05/gta-iv-better-than-all-the-hype-suggests-according-to-first-pe/">GTA IV 'better than all the hype suggests' according to first person to complete the game</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 05 Apr 2008 15:00:00 EST. <div align="left"><a href="http://blogs.theage.com.au/screenplay/archives//009125.html">The Age</a> is reporting that Rockstar had to submit an edited version of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grand-theft-auto-iv/"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a> to the OFLC in order to receive a passing rating. Rockstar confirmed this, but did not clarify what the censored content was. The game officially earned an MA15+ rating last year, Australia's most restricted rating.<br /><br />This must be really saddening news for all you Aussies. Not only do you have to live with those horribly annoying OFLC ratings crowding your beloved box cover, but they also serve as cruel reminders of the censorship only you must endure. Sad indeed, especially after hearing the good news about the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/04/01/grand-theft-auto-iv-gets-18-certificate-from-bbfc/">UK version</a>.</div>

This bit of news is going to have an extra special meaning for all you Rockstar fans in Britain. After the whole debacle with the <a href="http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/0/95CD81B1994B33258025741E004C8438?OpenDocument">British Board of Film Classification</a> (BBFC) <a style="" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/14/manhunt-2-uk-ban-officially-lifted/">versus <em>Manhunt 2</em></a>, many of you may have worried about history repeating itself -- this time with the upcoming and equally controversial <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grand-theft-auto-iv/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span></a>. However, your worries should stop here for the BBFC has already passed <span style="font-style: italic;">Grand Theft Auto IV</span> with an 18 certificate and with "no cuts made." <br /><br />This is excellent news for all those gamers in the UK looking forward to picking up <span style="font-style: italic;">GTAIV</span> this coming April 29. As it stands, there shouldn't be any other snags barring the game from its expected release date. <br /><br />[Thanks enfo! Hidden behind an easily foiled age gate (today we're 76 years old) lies Rockstar's flashy, <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/">Flash-based website</a> tied to its next controversial opus, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/grandtheftautoiv"><em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em></a>. Though the presentation is sleek and the diversions amusing -- do try the <em>Love Meet</em> quiz -- we all know you're just in it for some new videos. You'll find the satirical clips and character introductions embedded after the break.<br /><br />Oh, don't worry, there are plenty of other reasons to visit the website. However, with <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/24/grand-theft-auto-iv-dated-for-april-29/">last week's announcement of a late-April release date</a> for <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> came Thompson's mandatory adverse response to the series, and negativity towards Take Two, the game's distributor.<br /><br />Contained within <a href="http://gamepolitics.com/2008/01/27/gta-iv-gets-dated-triggers-obligatory-jack-thompson-threat/">an email from Thompson were promises</a> to keep this "murder simulator for violence against women, cops, and innocent bystanders" out of the hands of children by contacting "state and federal officials" to warn of the game's immediate danger. Though no immediate threats were made towards Take Two or Rockstar Games, we're sure the fireworks will really start going off by the time <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/GTAIV/">GTA IV</a></em> drops April 29 -- which just happens to be around the same time the outcome of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/04/jack-thompsons-further-florida-bar-issues/">Thompson's Florida Bar trial</a> will be decided.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/27/jack-thompson-rears-head-in-response-to-gta-iv-release-date/">Jack Thompson rears head in response to GTA IV release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 27 Jan 2008 20:00:00 EST. What did we do to deserve this? After a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/gtaiv-delayed-until-2008s-second-quarter/">delay</a> in late 2007 and the months of speculation that followed, Take Two has finally pinned down the <a href="http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=289342">official release date</a> for the game, April 29. We should note that this is the worldwide release date for <em>GTAIV</em>, so gamers the world over can officially start getting excited now. If you're not excited, then perhaps you should direct your attention to the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/23/gtaiv-dynamic-weather-auto-saves-and-more/">flood of previews</a> that swept the internet yesterday. The <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28354.html">video</a> above showcases what we assume to be an an example of the normal, everyday process of creating box art for video games. This process apparently involves the use of several skilled artists, ladders, scaffolding, a brick wall, and a helluvalotta paint. If box art really takes this much work, it's no wonder so much of it sucks. You'd think they'd just use Photoshop. Oh, and while this isn't really a trailer for <em>GTAIV</em>, the video does mention a new trailer entitled "Move up, ladies," which <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/IV/trailer_splash.html">should debut</a> December 6. Wait a minute ... that's next week! And it's when the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/fall-update">Fall Dashboard Update</a> is due! Coincidence? ... He said that the company is sticking with the February to April target, and that a firm release date within that three month period will be set when Take-Two knows the game will be ready. While this doesn't set our mind completely at ease, it's nice to see them give us any sweet morsels of certainty in their ocean of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/13/t2-report-omits-ps3-gta-iv-episodic-content-360-listed/">ambiguous</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/take-2-grand-theft-auto-iv-delay-almost-strictly-technological/">announcements</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/11/take-two-chairman-clarifies-statement-on-gta-iv-release-date/">Take Two chairman clarifies statement on GTA IV release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sun, 11 Nov 2007 18:05:00 EST. Since the delay was announced back in August, hardly a word has been written about the game (aside from a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/06/kane-and-lynch-excited-for-gtaiv/">tongue-in-cheek video</a> from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kane-and-lynch"><em>Kane &amp; Lynch</em></a>). Originally <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/02/gtaiv-delayed-until-2008s-second-quarter/">delayed</a> until 2nd Quarter 2008 (between February and April), Take Two now has a different tone on the matter. GamesIndustry.biz is <a href="http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=30374">reporting</a> that Take Two chairman Strauss Zelnick has said the company will not announce a release date until the company is "utterly convinced" that <em>Grand Theft Auto IV</em> will be ready. It's not uncommon for games as big as <em>GTAIV</em> to receive the "it's done when it's done" treatment, but that didn't make it easier for industry folk to see the game miss the 2007 holiday season. On this subject, Zelnick says that missing the holiday season is no longer a concern. From his point of view, the holiday console sales will increase the number of consumers that will buy the "must have" title that is <em>GTAIV</em>.<br /><br />So, <em>GTAIV</em> just got a little more nebulous. How does that make you feel? And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/take-two-gets-fuzzy-on-gtaiv-release-date/">Take Two gets fuzzy on GTAIV release date</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 07 Nov 2007 13:15:00 EST.
