This won't affect those who already own the DLC, and even allows them to redownload the content if necessary. If you already own the Metallica Pack 01, it's still all yours.<br /><br />Harmonix <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/20/rock-band-weekly-metallica-police-queens-of-the-stone-age-and/">launched Metallica Pack 01</a> in November 2007 for $5.50, or $2 per song.<br /><br />"Now, over 5 years since the release of the first batch of Rock Band DLC, we're reaching the end of some of the earliest licenses we secured," Harmonix writes on its Facebook page. "Our Music Team has been hard at work extending these licenses to make sure that this has as small an impact on the community as possible, but there may be a very limited number of songs that will no longer be offered for new purchases in the Rock Band store."<br /><br />Harmonix plans to post relicensing updates on a quarterly basis, hoping to give players a heads up if songs expire.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/09/rock-bands-first-metallica-dlc-pack-pulled-from-store-license/">Rock Band's first Metallica DLC pack pulled from store, license expired</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 09 Apr 2013 13:50:00 EST. The VC previously backed <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/zynga">Zynga</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/01/sifteo-cubes-get-a-hardware-refresh-now-have-better-graphics-an/">Sifteo</a>.<br /><br />"Last fall, Alex Rigopulos and his partner Eran Egozy showed me the three new games they were working on. Each addressed a different <a data-ls-existing-link-tracked="1" data-ls-seen="1" href="http://www.foundrygroup.com/wp/2008/03/theme-human-computer-interaction-hci/" target="_blank" title="HCI paradigm">HCI (Human Computer Interface) paradigm</a>. Each was stunningly envisioned. And each was magic, even in its rough form," wrote Foundry Group Managing Director Brad Feld, who will now take a spot on the Harmonix board. "Earlier this year I saw each game again, in a more advanced form. And I was completely and totally blown away - literally bouncing in my seat as I saw them demoed."<br /><br />HCI is essentially an exploration of interacting with computers beyond the keyboard and mouse interface, which is something Harmonix has demonstrable experience with, given its history with new tech like Microsoft's Kinect.<br /><br />Although Feld's words should not be taken to mean Harmonix is working on several peripheral-based games, it does mean that the developer is utilizing different concepts for player-game interaction. <br /><br />There's still no word on when Harmonix will reveal these projects, but Microsoft has been a good partner for the company. We've got E3 coming up, as well as an expected new Xbox announcement in the coming months.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/27/harmonix-receives-more-financial-backing-three-new-games-in-pip/">Harmonix receives more financial backing; three new games in pipeline</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 15:16:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/3/21/4134170/rock-bands-final-dlc-will-be-don-mcleans-american-pie">Polygon</a> reports, Harmonix revealed the news at its PAX East party last night. The song will be included in the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/18/rock-band-weekly-dlc-lowers-the-curtain-april-2/">final Rock Band update</a> on April 2.<br /><br />Not only is American Pie one of those timelessly brilliant songs, but it's full of lyrics that cutely mark the end of what's been a mammoth run of over 275 weeks and 4000 added songs for <em>Rock Band</em> DLC. We can still remember how all that music used to make us smile, and now we wait for the day the music dies.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/22/bye-bye-miss-rock-band-last-ever-weekly-dlc-song-is-american/">Bye Bye, Miss Rock Band: Last ever weekly DLC song is 'American Pie'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 22 Mar 2013 09:30:00 EST. "As Harmonix moves forward with several new titles currently in development, the talented developers who make this content are needed on other projects," reads the <a href="http://www.dancecentral.com/march-dlc-update">Dance Central blog</a>. The studio doesn't completely shut the door on more content, however, stating that March is the last month of new DLC "for the near future." Live challenges and leaderboards will continue to be supported, and all DLC tracks will remain available.<br /><br />This is the second time Harmonix has made such an announcement this year. Last month, the developer revealed that <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/rock-band-3"><em>Rock Band 3</em></a> will receive <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/18/rock-band-weekly-dlc-lowers-the-curtain-april-2/">no more DLC after April 2</a>. The Rock Band franchise as a whole has had weekly DLC since the original game debuted in 2007.<br /><br />That raises the question: Just what is studio working on now? Dance Central has consistently been one of the best-received products for Microsoft's Kinect, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a new Dance Central debut on the next Xbox, which is believed to have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/kinect-2">more advanced Kinect sensor</a>. The <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/21/ps4-eye-has-two-cameras-one-to-watch-you-one-to-make-you-prett/">PS4 Eye</a> is capable of motion-track as well, so a multiplatform title is also possible. Or who knows, maybe we'll see something entirely new.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/08/march-is-last-month-of-dance-central-3-dlc-for-the-near-future/">March is last month of Dance Central 3 DLC 'for the near future'</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 08 Mar 2013 13:45:00 EST. Due to <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/15/harmonix-has-three-and-or-more-new-games-in-the-works-and-non/">other ongoing projects</a> at the studio, production on <em>Rock Band</em> DLC has slowed in recent months. Up until April 2, Harmonix will <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-weekly">release weekly DLC per usual</a>.<br /><br />Harmonix has been issuing <em>Rock Band</em> DLC songs for over 275 consecutive weeks, which comes to over five years of consistent weekly releases. The <em>Rock Band</em> DLC catalog includes over 4,000 supplemental tracks, spanning all <em>Rock Band</em> games and the <a href="http://creators.rockband.com/">Rock Band Network</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/18/rock-band-weekly-dlc-lowers-the-curtain-april-2/">Rock Band weekly DLC lowers the curtain April 2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 18 Feb 2013 14:30:00 EST. Jesse is the male spelling. With that established, Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" takes on a different context, especially with a couple pronoun tweaks that we're sure <em>Rock Band</em> won't mind vocalists altering.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/11/rock-band-weekly-rick-springfield/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Rock Band Weekly: Rick Springfield</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/11/rock-band-weekly-rick-springfield/">Rock Band Weekly: Rick Springfield</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 11 Jan 2013 11:15:00 EST. T-Pain's "(Hey Baby) Drop It to The Floor," and Flo Rida's "Let It Roll." Whatever 'It' is, we're worried it's getting an unwarranted amount of abuse. Thankfully the month's two other downloadable offerings, namely Pitbull ft. Chris Brown's "International Love" and The Wanted's "Glad You Came," are much more affectionate-sounding.<br /><br />"Whip It," originally a bonus track available with Walmart pre-orders of the game, is available for all from tomorrow on Xbox Live Marketplace. The two Pitbull tracks follow in a week's time on January 15, then it's "Glad You Came" on January 22 and "Let it Roll" on January 29. Each track sets you back 240 MSP, but you can get a couple of doggies on the cheap with Pitbull Pack 01, a bundle of "(Hey Baby) Drop It to The Floor" and "International Love" which woofs in at 400 MSP.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/07/dance-central-3-january-dlc-line-up-whips-it-then-drops-it-to-th/">Dance Central 3 January DLC line-up whips it then drops it to the floor</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 07 Jan 2013 17:00:00 EST. Harmonix tells us the downloadable content for the latest installment in its dance franchise will include Psy's international phenomenon, "Gangnam Style," and the inescapable "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. The former was <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/19/gangnam-style-riding-into-just-dance-4/">announced last week for <em>Just Dance 4</em></a>.<br /><br />Other artists in the DLC pipeline include Justin Bieber, One Direction and LMFAO. Harmonix notes the tracks include the "authentic choreography," so don't worry about missing out on some saddle dancing during "Gangnam Style." Specific release dates will be announced "in the coming months."<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/26/dance-central-3-dlc-to-include-gangnam-style-call-me-maybe-and/">Dance Central 3 DLC to include Gangnam Style, Call Me Maybe and more</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Fri, 26 Oct 2012 04:00:00 EST. Not that it's always wise to play games half-naked, especially ones that depend on jumping around in front of a camera, but pants will only slow you down and make you sweat even more than you already will. Wear gym shorts, if you must.<br /><br />Like leaf-peeping, apple-picking and umpire second-judging, <i>Dance Central</i> has become an autumn tradition. You can argue that it's grown a bit repetitive by this third installment, but repetition is the key to pop music. A steady beat, a memorable bass line and a chorus that'll itch in your brain until you hear it one more time are the rudiments of a hit. Can you attack a game for reflecting pop music when that's the very bedrock upon which it is built?<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dance-central-4-e3-2012/">Dance Central 3 (E3 2012)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dance-central-4-e3-2012/#5068276"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/dc4dciscreen-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dance-central-4-e3-2012/#5068277"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/dc4dciscreen-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dance-central-4-e3-2012/#5068278"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/dc4dcivenue01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dance-central-4-e3-2012/#5068279"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/dc4hidefscreen-01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/dance-central-4-e3-2012/#5068280"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2012/06/dc4hidefscreen-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Dance Central 3 review: No pants dance</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/15/dance-central-3-review/">Dance Central 3 review: No pants dance</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 15 Oct 2012 09:30:00 EST. In response to player feedback collected from Facebook, Twitter and its official forums, Harmonix has changed how coins are earned in its PSN/XBLA score-chasing music game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/game/rock-band-blitz"><em>Rock Band Blitz</em></a>.<br /><br />First off, power-up costs have been adjusted and Track, Note and Overdrive doodads now cost 100, 200 and 250 coins respectively. The amount of coins earned at the end of a song has also changed; players now receive 100 coins per star earned during the song. Additionally, Score Wars winners will now be granted 1,500 coins, with Score Wars losers taking home 500 coins.<br /><br />Basically, earning more coins more quickly means that players will have to spend less time grinding, and will be less frequently unable to purchase the power-ups needed to potentially earn a song's maximum score. Also, you ever look at a word so long you stop being able to tell whether its spelled correctly? That's where we're at with coins. Coins, coins coins. Coins coins coins -- coins. Coins?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/06/rock-band-blitz-coin-system-adjusted-more-coins-for-all/">Rock Band Blitz coin system adjusted, more coins for all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 06 Sep 2012 18:15:00 EST.
