Does anyone even use the Wii's Photo Channel anymore? We suspect that many, like ourselves, thought the Photo Channel was a neat addition for about 15 minutes, after which the kitsch factor wore off and the channel was promptly relegated to the back pages of the Wii menu, to make room for copious <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/virtualconsole">Virtual Console</a> purchases.<br /><br />Well, apparently one person enjoys the Photo Channel, if for no other reason than zooming in and out on giant, time-consuming <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/mosaic">mosaics</a>. Blogger Random J <a href="http://i-am-random-j.blogspot.com/2007/06/wii-photo-channel-art-attack.html">found footage</a> of one user's mind-numbing labors. Watch, as hundreds of photos of cute anime girls transform into one giant cute anime girl! Be amazed, as Mario and a goomba appear... out of around 500 pictures of cute anime girls! Hold on, I'm sensing a pattern. Check it out for yourself after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/todays-most-obsessive-compulsively-awesome-video-wii-photo-cha/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's most obsessive-compulsively awesome video: Wii Photo Channel mosaics</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/todays-most-obsessive-compulsively-awesome-video-wii-photo-cha/">Today's most obsessive-compulsively awesome video: Wii Photo Channel mosaics</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 03 Jul 2007 00:01:00 EST. While not as visually or aesthetically appealing as the <span style="font-style: italic;">Children of Men-</span>esque landscape in a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/callofduty">previous trailer</a>, this footage from <span style="font-style: italic;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/callofduty">Call of Duty 4:</a> </span><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ModernWarfare/" style="font-style: italic;">Modern Warfare</a> multiplayer match gives a feeling for how their designing death match, as all we see in thirty seconds is our perspective shooter running in with a rifle, switching to pistol and getting shot. This PC and DS game is created by Crackpot Entertainment, which boasts adventure game veterans with ties to the classic LucasArts hits.<br /><br />We're still unclear about the actual gameplay -- the companies involved say <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/insecticide-lucasarts-alums-bring-us-ds-adventure-game/">it'll be in that classic vein</a> -- but the game's style already has our hopes high. The upcoming Bandacoot adventure for all current platforms besides PS3 will be out this fall, and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/crashbandicoot">Crash</a> fans may find a new title to love. We're partial to his <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaGUS2FhyCM">trailer</a> versus his full <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/20753.html">review</a> of the game. It's even funny if you don't think swearing is hilarious -- although if you do, there's no reason not to watch.<br /><br />See the <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nsfw">NSFW</a> (for language) video trailer after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/todays-most-retro-action-game-die-hard-nes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's most retro action game: Die Hard (NES)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/25/todays-most-retro-action-game-die-hard-nes/">Today's most retro action game: Die Hard (NES)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 25 Jun 2007 00:00:00 EST. Even though some of us have <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/25/nintendo-media-summit-boogie-hands-on-wii/">played <span style="font-style: italic;">Boogie</span></a>, the title continues to confuse others. Today's video pick is the first time it made sense for this writer: instead of a dancing-and-singing game, it's a game where you control a dancing-and-singing puppet. Finally, the lack of direct correlation between controllers and avatars -- like left controller for left arm -- makes sense.<br /><br />It's still too early to predict <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/boogie"><span style="font-style: italic;">Boogie's</span></a> success, but at least we finally understand the basics. And it took us long enough -- the title is close to shipping, with an August 9, 2007 release. See the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/todays-finally-understandable-video-boogie/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's finally understandable video: Boogie</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/19/todays-finally-understandable-video-boogie/">Today's finally understandable video: Boogie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Tue, 19 Jun 2007 00:00:00 EST. While we fear the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/katamari">series</a> has run its course -- and rolled up the shark -- seemingly <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/15/beautiful-katamari-rolling-exclusively-with-xbox-360/">Xbox 360 exclusive</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/16/gamespot-beautiful-katamari-coming-to-xbox-live-arcade/">XBLA downloadable</a> title <span style="font-style: italic;">Beautiful Katamari</span> wins us over for today's video pick. The extended gameplay clip looks nearly the same as what we remember from the PS2 until the camera keeps pulling back and the Prince rolls up countries and continents. We went through several stages with today's video picks. First, we thought, "<span style="font-style: italic;">Spinning Princess</span>? An ice skating game for DS? That's going to suck." The next stage, after starting the video, left us saying, "This isn't so bad." Later in the video, we were closer to our original opinion but glad to have made the journey with these Japanese trailers.<br /><br />An ice skating game based on touch-screen controls? Maybe it could actually work. Is this that game? With <a href="http://joystiq.com/tag/phantomhourglass">Zelda: Phantom Hourglass</a> nearly released--well, for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/11/zelda-phantom-hourglass-hits-japan-in-june-this-june/">Japanese gamers</a>, that is--GameTrailers has posted a few brief gameplay clips that show the touchscreen controls. Gamers outside of Japan will have to wait until later this year to play the DS RPG/adventure. (Make the wait even longer by watching <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/08/zelda-phantom-hourglass-japanese-commercials/">Japanese commercials</a> for the game.)<br /><br />Start forming opinions on the controls. After the break, watch demos of movement, swordplay, and curved boomerang throws, all handled with the stylus.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/todays-most-stylistic-video-ds-zelda-controls/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's most stylistic video: DS Zelda controls</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/06/14/todays-most-stylistic-video-ds-zelda-controls/">Today's most stylistic video: DS Zelda controls</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 14 Jun 2007 00:00:00 EST. This videomaker's page showcases dozens of game crossovers, with characters from different titles fighting, and even non-gaming characters get inserted into the action. While a little long, we especially like one of the shoot-'em-up crossovers, where a spaceship is piloted through several fighting games and even a GameBoy version of <em>Super Mario Bros.</em><br /><br />If you're still not convinced, let this sway you: Mike Tyson makes an appearance near the end. While LucasArts says it's adding some new content, we fear that the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/24/lego-star-wars-the-complete-saga-bricking-360-ps3-wii-ds/">upcoming Lego Star Wars game</a>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga</span> will just be a new name on an old title. Still, the humor in this series is worth a second look -- at least in cost-free trailer form -- and this ad for the game reminds us why we enjoy this unlikely franchise at all.<br /><br />In time for the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/26/celebrate-star-wars-anniversary-with-force-unleashed-video-doc/">30th anniversary</a>, see epic <span style="font-style: italic;">Star Wars</span> events reenacted with Legos after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/todays-most-re-sellable-video-lego-star-wars-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's most re-sellable video: Lego Star Wars trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/todays-most-re-sellable-video-lego-star-wars-trailer/">Today's most re-sellable video: Lego Star Wars trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 28 May 2007 00:05:00 EST. But the U.K. <em>Mario Strikers</em> commercial tipped us over the edge, and we're showing those videos in this post, especially after today's news of a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/21/nintendo-dates-metroid-prime-3-mario-strikers-charged-others/">U.S. July 30 release</a>.<br /><br />While we're glad that the Wii is getting some online action, we chortled at the tagline of "the first online game on Wii." As baseball players keep bulking up in unnatural ways, we wonder if this extreme version of the sport is what fans want to see; upcoming 2K Sports <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/baseball">baseball</a> game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/thebigs">The Bigs</a>, seems to take that pro-girth approach. ("Big" is right there in the title.) Two trailers for this <span style="font-style: italic;">NFL Blitz</span>- and <span style="font-style: italic;">NBA Jam</span>-style baseball title show some of the flashy effects.<br /><br />And maybe we shouldn't connect <span style="font-style: italic;">The Bigs</span> with the current state of baseball; if we want straight simulation, we can play <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/04/surprise-derek-jeter-to-grace-mlb-2k7-cover/">another title</a>. While not yet announced for release <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/15/seaman-2-unearthed-for-japanese-ps2-owners/">outside of Japan</a>, <em>Seaman 2</em> taps into the risky, creative side of gaming we laud. Admittedly, those gambles don't always pay off, but when they do, they're why we play games.<br /><br />The videos show a few people playing the game, even Japanese schoolgirls! We're not, although it's going to be a fine line to get through these next few days without a Haloverdose. Our video pick for tonight shows Bungie's latest footage from the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/11/halo-3-multiplayer-beta-event-san-francisco/">multiplayer</a> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/11/halo-3-multiplayer-beta-event-nyc/">beta</a>, with some snappy editing to keep everything moving. Keep looping the video until the public beta <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/10/halo-3-beta-date-confirmed-for-may/">drops on Wednesday</a>, or use this time to go outside.<br />

They also remind the fanbase that this beta is a bit older than what will soon be released for mass <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">enjoyment</span> testing. "This was fully sanctioned and approved by Bungie," the developer added, "unlike some of those other 'leaked' videos that have ended up online."<br />

This is a documentary for <em>Command &amp; Conquer 3</em> fans or anyone with a penchant for Telecommunication Arts: a four-part documentary on the making of the cinematics for the strategy title.<br /><br />Part one is a discussion with some of the producers concerning the decision to go with real life actors as opposed to, say, CG characters. Part two features interviews with Nod actors Joe Kucan (a very soft-spoken individual unlike his Kane counterpart), Tricia Helfer and Josh Holloway, and GDI actress Jennifer Morrison. Part three continues the interviews with GDI actors Michael Ironside, Billy Dee "don't call me Lando" Williams, John Huck, Shannon Cook and Grace Park. Part four discusses the setting, costume and makeup designs. All with behind-the-scenes footage of the production with green and blue screens very visible.<br /><br /> Our favorite line comes from Ironside in part three. Discussing how the actors needed to act to the camera, he said that he had to relate to a range of personality "male, female ranging from 16 to 66 and different mode of dress at different times of day with different forms of food in their hand while they're playing." But, no, the game is a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/08/the-playstation-ducks-return-in-super-rubadub/">real downloadable title</a> for the PS3, and the trailer quickly turned us from skeptical to interested. Players pilot a rubber duck through elaborate pools with the Sixaxis motion controls, herding up smaller ducks in the process. Elements of the game remind us of <em>Lemmings</em> and <em>ChuChu Rocket</em>; we hope the final title lives up to those classics.<br /><br />See the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/todays-cleanest-game-video-super-rub-a-dub-trailer/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's cleanest game video: Super Rub 'a' Dub trailer</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/02/todays-cleanest-game-video-super-rub-a-dub-trailer/">Today's cleanest game video: Super Rub 'a' Dub trailer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Mon, 02 Apr 2007 00:00:00 EST. Others have a <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/01/22/get-a-first-life-membership-is-free/">First Life</a>. Today's video pick introduces the <em>Third Life</em> as part of a Kit Kat ad in the Netherlands. Created by <a href="http://www.ubachswisbrunjwt.nl/">UbachsWisbrun/JWT</a> (caution: website resizes your window, plays sound, and otherwise annoys), Kit Kat only loosely ties into the joke. Regardless, the humor scores high with us gamers, and we highly recommend the video.<br /><br />Watch the ad after the break.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.adverblog.com/archives/003031.htm">Adverblog</a>]<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/31/todays-most-recursive-game-video-third-life/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's most recursive game video: Third Life</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/31/todays-most-recursive-game-video-third-life/">Today's most recursive game video: Third Life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 31 Mar 2007 00:00:00 EST. (What, you thought we'd post about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/29/the-grand-theft-auto-iv-trailer/">that other video</a> again?) Through the magic of editing -- and a rocking soundtrack -- these two leaders face off in a game of <em>Street Fighter</em>. Bauer uses his ability to multitask to get Gamefaqs tips, while beardless Riker has only his grimace and guile. This YTMND mash-up loops soon after it starts, but the quick editing is dense with detail; we laughed through several repetitions.<br /><br />The video isn't embedable, so you'll have to venture into the dangerous tubes beyond Joystiq. This stop-motion animation shows Mario as a regular-shaped Lego man; instead of making a video as close to <em>SMB</em> as possible, Mario, mushrooms, enemies, and other items are warped through the Lego lens. There's a place for literal <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego">Lego game tributes</a>, but we still like this short. Love those sound effects!<br /><br />See the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/todays-stop-motionest-game-video-lego-smb/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Today's stop-motionest game video: Lego SMB</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/28/todays-stop-motionest-game-video-lego-smb/">Today's stop-motionest game video: Lego SMB</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 28 Mar 2007 00:00:00 EST.
